nope i'm the only person around here that plays this game. and i'm not stupid
Well, there are only so many ways they can do that. I will list the ones that come off the top of my head.
1) That bot you downloaded had a key logger.
2) Something else you installed had a key logger.
3) The person had access to your computer, either from the keyboard,or through a back door program. (see 1 and 2)
4) You gave someone the password.
5) Your ID and password were very easy to guess. (Anything like "secret","password" ,any name, or anything that is profane or drug related, such as "bonghits" or "*****" is very easy to guess)
6) You use the same password all over the place. (If you do this, and for instance, use it on some little message board that some FFXI player has setup, you just gave the webmaster your password.
7) You wrote your password down somewhere.(for instance, lets say you write on the back of a buisness card "FFXI ID: Skrotum PW: *****" Not only does this fall under item 5,an easy to guess PW,but now anyone who finds that card,if you drop it,can steal your account)
Good passwords should mix letters of both cases and numbers. Really good passwords should be random, but thats just not practical. A good alternative is to use two unrealated words, perhaps mispelled, with some punctiation or other symbols. For instance "iCeland_kItten26" would be a good password, thats not that hard to memorize. There is no magic to hacking passwords. Most of the time, its the end user that compromises his own security.
