Windower Problem...Follow

I have a problem with the windower, before the update, it would act like a normal windowed application, with a minimize button and all that, but after the update I lost the ability to move it and the top bar disappeared totally. Anyone have a solution for this?

The only fix involves replacing the current DLL files with the old ones, which is highly against the ToS, and easy to track. There is a thread on the main page of the forums...

Do it at your own risk.

LMAO. Sometimes people crack me up.

Gil selling? Against the TOS and violently shouted down around here.

Gil buying? Against the TOS and violnetly shouted down aroun here.

Editing .dat files? Agains the TOS but everyone tries to argue that its "reall ok!"

3rd party apps? Against the TOS but hey if it does what I want, who are you to tell me no?

I say we start MPKing everyone using windower or who has the shadow lord for their moogle.

LMAO!!!1!!!1111!

People that can't stick to a simple topic? Against natural selection, but so many people act like it.

MPK me all you want, I want to talk to my friends on IM in between pops or when I'm on autorun.

Come on. If you had posted 'hey IGE is down, where else can I buy gil' you'd have been flamed off the planet. But this topic is 'ok'? Just struck me odd, you are effectively saying...

"hey my application that violates the TOS is busted because SE made a patch to bust it. Can you tell me how to fix it?"

I just find that amusing. Even more so than the rate downs I got for doing it.

The new windower being released today or tommorow fixes this issue.

This is Archbells version.

Because gilbuying has more far reaching implications then having a strolling sappling as your moogle.

Did you know it's actually illegal to drive barefoot in my state? I can do it, it's really not hurting anything but my feet, and I don't like getting crap in my shoes after I go to the beach. The same is true of the windower. Really now, does the windower do any harm when it's used alone and without bots? I wanted tech support because software related to the game isn't working properly after a patch, and I wanted to know how to fix it.

I personally don't give a flying <deleted> about the ToS. I just go by what I believe is right. I believe MPK is wrong (In most circumstances, though I do like WATCHING, not doing, some vigilante justice to known gilsellers), I believe Gilselling and buying is wrong.

Do I believe it's wrong to have convenience and not be forced to do only one thing, on a machine that was designed to multitask? Of course not.

Maybe I don't want to hear the crappy FFXI soundtrack (Let's face it, XI is one of the only FF games most hated the music for). Maybe I don't want to sit looking for group while doing absolutely nothing. Why should we be forced to?

I think the greater question is why doesn't SE just have windowing an option to begin with? The Windower has been out for ages and I have not seen any noticable wave of hacks. This isn't Diablo, people.

Until SE makes windowing an 'official' option, I'm breaking the law and I'm a terrible heathen who's going to hell when I die. And there's going to be BBQ every day, and it's gonna rock. Anyone who brings the ToS into the issue of the Windower just does not like convenience.

In your mind, maybe. But both are against the TOS.

Nice to see how many people's outrage at TOS violations ends the moment it impedes on their IM time.

the Windower, although not hurtful on its own, alllows ANYONE with simple knowledge of a computer to hack/bot/cheat/steal

And yet people complain about that, and use the Windower and support it.

I'm gonna laugh when this "Cliff" gets sued.

EDIT: The Spelling Troll bite me.

here's a quick fix:

copy the new ffxi.dll and ffximain.dll and back it up to a new folder. (keep it just in case).

find online in other forums the older versions of these dll files. paste/replace those in the finalfantasyxi folder (where the ffxi and ffximain dll files were).

and the old windower would work.

REMEMBER: copy the new ffxi.dll and ffximain.dll files before replacing them with the older files... if not, something will go wrong and you will have to reinstall.

If I was some notorious hacker, wouldn't I know how to fix this problem on my own? The windower is such a nice convenience, and the ability to chat with friends on IM, listen to my custom playlist, look up stuff on Alla and read between pop windows is nice.

Who is "Cliff"? Am I "Cliff"? I don't complain about botters much, because I've pretty much given up on the NM scene.

It's against the law to sell toothpaste and a toothbrush to the same customer on a Sunday in Rhode Island. Is that not the most retarded thing that you've ever heard? Here it's also illegal to play a pro sport on Sunday without a lisence, except for ice hockey and polo. Laws that don't make sense are retarded, and you have to prioritize ****.

Is it illegal? Sure.
Is it comparable to MPKing? No.

Some of you people really do push it sometimes.

Comparing using the windower to Gil Selling is absolutely ridiculous and says "I have nothing better to do with my time than find reasons to start problems on an online forum." That's like comparing pety Theft to First Degree Murder. Yes both are crimes but one is much larger than the other.

Half the bots that are out there can be run and 1 key activated Windower or no Windower. Anyone with any grasp of computer knowledge knows that. The Windower makes it simple for some of us who would normally have limited play time to enjoy the game while multitasking. Please forgive those of us who aren't in our parents basements sitting at the computer 24/7 with no other obligation.

In other news, the new windower should be released today or tomorrow as someone earlier stated and I really can't wait, the convinience of the Windower is way to much to pass up.

Actually, it's an urban legend that it is illegal to drive without shoes.

According to the book "More Rumor" by Hal Morgan and Kerry Tucker: "... another commonly feared law is the one that prevents many of us from driving barefoot. The Automobile Association of America keeps tabs on driving laws in all fifty states, and reports that no such rule is on the books."

To the person who said the new windower that comes out today or tomorrow will fix, I hate to tell you this...

They only just got their hands on the new DLL files themselves, that means its going to take a damn slight more time than 2 days to update the windower program to hook the new DLL...

//// EDIT!

My bad, it seems Cliff is faster than I thought, and a fix is indeed coming out in the next few days.

Apologies to the person who said that ^^

Then you work to change them or get rid of them. Breaking them doesn't make you a hero. In the case of a voluntary agreement between you and a private corporation your option, aside from buying stock and trying to force a change that way, is to make a polite request, live with the change or stop playing the game.

From the standpoint of someone who rants about TOS that's as far as the thinking goes.

Who compared it to MPK? RMT is mentioned, and contrary to popular thought around the short-bus set here, RMT does not automatically equate to MPK.

I grew up in Florida where there was a similar law. The REAL reason for the law was that if the driver needed to stop suddenly, there is a high probablity the driver would miss the pedal, hit it with the arch which would cause the ankle to roll and come off the pedal or otherwise make it "difficult or dangerous to stop the vehicle in time to avoid a negative outcome".

How do I know? My sister got a ticket for it once and that's what the judge told her. No urban legend. It's since been changed, but it was a realy law. THough I believe it was part of the whole law that said "proper equipment for safe operation of motorvehicle" and was counted among things like eye glasses for those that needed them etc.

its not hurting anyting but your feeet..or the person you slam into because you can't stop. It's not about what you think, it's what the law says.

But more to my point the EULA is not a law, it's a contract and in that role ALL points are equal. So yes Windower, gil selling, .dat editing are EQUAL in that they all constitue violations of the EULA. I just find it interesting, as someone else pointed out, that as long as YOU are the one making the decision what is ok and what is not, well then hey it's ok. But if someone correctly points out that what you are doing is just as much a violation as the other things...welllll that gets people's panties in a tight little wad.

Oh, and just an FYI I helped a guy look for coffers the other day, he had edited his dat files, and he was KNEELING on the coffer but couldn't see it. I had to wait while he changed them or got on another PC to get his coffer and help him get out. Soooo editing .dat files doesn't affect anyone else right? Bull.... took 2-3 times longer than it needed to. All because he broke the EULA. And he actually thought I was being a jerk and ******** with him.

Bahamaat, did I ever claim to be a hero? No, I want to use the god damn windower, and pointing at me, screaming "ToS" is real effective. What are you trying to do? Tell ya what, call up Square-Enix technical support, give them my character name, server, and tell them the URL of this thread, THEN you're doing something. If you're going to play the part of the tattle-tale, do it right.

Well, I don't know about your short bus, but mine says that MPKing is against the ToS too. In fact, it's more clear cut than RMT, so we should use that, as it's a better example.

Is the windower wrong according to the rules? Sure.
Is the windower morally wrong? Debatable, let's assume yes to be nice.
Is this topic about morality or tech support? Tech support.

Right, so I'm slamming my foot on the windower, where am I not stopping? Where does my windower hit another driver, in a way of thinking? Where does the windower hurt you? Where is ANYONE being effected by my use of a windower in any negative way? Where?

And I LOVE how every topic goes back to gilselling/gilbuying.

Just thought I'd throw out two pretty funny laws in NYC which are great on their own, but when combined may cause internal bleeding...

Women may go topless in public, providing it is not being used as a business.

It is illegal for a woman to be on the street wearing "body hugging clothing."

Anyone seriously trying to make an argument against the Windower is just being goddamn troll with nothing better to do with their time. Just about every other single MMORPG in existence allows the user to alt-tab out of the window and manage to fight hacks without taking that away. FFXI is not some special case.

Sorry but arguing "everyone else does it" is about as silly as it gets.

FFXI does not allow for windowed play. Anything that allows you to alter that fact is against the TOS. plain and simple. if you want to play a game that allows windowing, you've already pointed out that many others allow it quite happily. Have fun in your new MMO.

Thanks for making my point for me though. Much appreciated.

Just an FYI -

I read the Rules of Conduct (and related materials) today.

The use of 3rd party apps is disallowed IF IT IS USED FOR UNATTENDED GAMEPLAY.

Go read it yourself if you don't believe me. Rules Of Conduct, Part 2: Prohibited Conduct.

So EVERYONE CAN JUST STFU NOW.

Uhhhhh yea
Windower can be used for "UNATTENDED GAMEPLAY".

Your point is moot. Move along, theres nothing to see here.

It can be. But in most cases, it is not. And therefore it's not disallowed. Logic is fun.
