After searching the forums for either a guide or a forum sticky and/or post regarding suggested areas for improving the various combat skills in the game, I have resorted to asking the general forum for help.

First, does anyone know of a link where I could get suggestions for leveling, for example: Throwing.

Second, are there any factual recommendations regarding whether having STAT bonuses while trying to skill up? (i.e. If you're trying to level ARCHERY, should you use your RANGED ACCURACY, RANGED ATTACK, and AGILITY bonus equipment or should you attempt to make it harder when going for skill ups by removing that gear?)

Thank you for any help on these two.

(As if anybody cares section follows:)

The reason for this post is that after leveling my THIEF to 32, I decided that before heading out to the Altep desert or Eld Nec, that I should level up THROWING to 87 (the cap for Thief at level 32).

Since as a THIEF I will be the puller for my parties (unless of course there's a good ranger in the group) I figured it might be nice to actually HIT the monster once in a while. :)

Currently, I'm parked at the outpost in Valkn00b Dunes leveling up quite nicely on Flys, Goblins and Sheep. My throwing is now at 43 (when I started trying to level THROWING in VD it was at like 36 or 37).

So, I suppose the only thing to do is keep leveling where I am until my skill ups stop. Then probably off to Qufim on WORMS until those stop. What would be nice, and why I wrote this, is to see if anyone has any established hard numbers regarding the skill level in which you should move on to the next zone.

Thanks again.

This is just a rough guide from memory where I was skilling up my marksmanship.

LV 1-20 any of the starting zones
LV 20-30 the 2nd set of zones La Thiene ect
Lv 30-60/70 Valkurm Dunes (start on rabbits, then clippers, then flys and finally Pugils)
Lv 70-85/90 Quifm (Worms and Snippers)
Lv 90/100 Yhutunga Jungle

That's as far as I got as I was only Lv 36 and found it hard to solo mobs after that and still skillup.

As a 40 THF now, I'd probably go skillup on Acrophies or Pugs (near Delkfutts Tower) in Quifm. Hopefully after this I'll be able to hit often enough to skill up while XPing

Curor down to General info and you will see:

Skillup Locations 1 & 2

There are probably better charts, but this is a start.

You gain offensive skill ups when you're in a battle. So you don't want to do anything that will make the battle harder for you. Every succesful hit is a chance to get a skill up. But that's not the only factor that determines if you get a skill up. The level of the monster you are fighting affects your chance of a skill up as well.

For example, you said your throwing skill was at 43. A level 16 thief caps their throwing skill out at 44. In order to get skill ups you need to fight monsters that are an even match or higher in relation to the skill you are trying to level. In this case, you want to fight something level 16 or higher. Anything lower than this and you won't be getting any skill ups.

To continue with this example, if you are fighting a level 16 monster, you will keep getting throwing skill ups till 44. After 44, it's time to find a level 17 monster or higher.

I keep saying "or higher" and I'd like to point out that you don't want to go too high. Fighting a level 30 monster with a level 16 skill won't get you too many skill ups. The rule of thumb is fight whatever you were fighting at the level of the skill. You can't go wrong.

To skill up you must: 1. Be able to hit the mob. 2. Do dmg to the mob.

If you cannot hit the mob there is no way to get a skillup. At the same time if you hit the mob, but do no dmg you will also not get a skillup (changed in this last update).

Most likely you will need to focus primarily on Ranged Accuracy and Agility (where you cannot put +RACC gear). Ranged Attack shouldn't be needed, but at the same time don't use a lvl 5 weapon if you could use a lvl 32 weapon.

Personally I would use crossbow when pulling in pt's since there are status bolts that are more beneficial (acid bolts, venom bolts) than throwing. However, since you didn't ask what weapon to use but how to skillup throwing I'll get back to that discussion.

When I was lvl'ing THF around 32-34 one day I was LFP and decided to lvl up my marksmanship. I had it no more than lvl 20. I went to Rolanberry Fields and killed Death Wasps and later Goblins. These rated EP to DC to me, but I was able to kill them due to having Bloody Bolts. I was able to get to lvl 94.

I'd recommend lvl'ing Marksmanship first if nothing else so you can cut down on your healing time. Later I also lvl'd Archery and Throwing on these same mobs, but because I had Marksmanship lvl'd up whenever I would run low on HP I would switch weapons and refill myself.

Recently I've been farming Yagudo Necklaces in Giddeus to raise my mules' fame. My mules are lvl 31 and 32 THFs. I was able to get Dagger and H2H to about lvl 41 off of the Yagudo. If you'd like a bridge lvl'ing location I suggest Giddeus.

One of the benefits of lvl'ing in Giddeus and Rolanberry Fields is the loot. While lvl'ing a skill you can also semi-farm.

As for some skillup lvl'ing charts you might want to check out these as taken from my post Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About FFXI v2.0:
