Completely unexpected. I was expecting Vana'diel Collection 2009 or something.

Love the artwork!

Notice it does not appear to be available for PS2. Smiley: dubious

Ultimate = unsurpassable = no more expansions (that would make for an even better collection/edition)?

Speculation go.

There is nothing remotely ultimate about playing FFXI on the ps2.

Two questions:

1. When is it going to become available?
2. I don't have much hope, but are the codes for these mini-expansions region free? I need to get the PC version regardless, but yeah, I'd really like to only have to buy one copy of this collection, if possible.

That said, the new art is ********* I hope it's a preview of armor still to come.

No, if you look closely, the PLD is wearing AF and the mage appears to be wearing a V cloak.

It's tinted prettily.

First off nice art work.

Second, I've said it last time they released a collection, if you look closely at the "making money" part of the activities section he is selling a plain sheepskin to the NPC for 11k. The freakin staff that he's selling sells for less. lulz

Yeah, I guess I'm more thinking about the darkened hume looking onward, as well as the tarutaru duo. I imagine they're just there to look pretty though. :(

edit: worth noting that the new artwork is available for download as a wallpaper under the Media section of the website.

As someone else said ultimate edition sounds bad from a further expansion stand-point.

Seems strange they would bother releasing this...what with them practically killing the game off the way they are. I think more people I know have quit within the past 4 months than the previous last 3 years. Hardcore players at that.

The communities feeling about the future of FFXI is terrible and they sure aren't helping it with horrible lackluster updates, no word of any further expansions and indeed horrible PR stuff. Seems an odd time to release it to me, i guess it doesn't cost that much to do though..

They are trying to milk it for all it's worth.

It is not strange at all. I predicted a new collection shortly after ACP came out, then re-predicted it again when people heard about the recalls of Vanadiel Collection 2008 and started panicking.

Holy crap I wish we got more portraits like that to look at! I love getting surprised by what the players themselves can present at art contests, but looking at pictures like that make me smile in my mind long after the one on my face has faded

That one looks like he's wearing Koga Feet, and Byakko's Haidate. I dunno about the body(Nice AF body?) or hands or that fact he only has one weapon.

Know what strikes me as odd?

The fact that they think NEW PLAYERS will be coming to FFXI and want to buy this. Seems like a waste of money for them to invest in this.. I would be worried about releasing anything but Direct to Drive at this point, but that's just me.

That's ok. As part of SE's rollout of FF14, GM teams equipped with cattle prods will be visiting the homes of recalcitrant users to encourage migration to the new release.

I am kind of irritated by their choice in music for their website. It's been the same since Wings of the Goddess came out, and it's the same music we hear over and over in Campaign Battle. It's also, in my opinion, one of the worst tracks in the game.

Edit: Holy ****. The box cover is absolutely amazing though.

Notice the scantily clad mithra featured prominently on the cover.

I'm all for this. Dropping PS2 support opens the door for a client update.

I thought of it first:

Which will never happen. Still would be glad to drop ps2 support though.
