He wouldn't have had that problem if Murgleis was shaped like a pickaxe.

Yep, it's always been that way. If you can't draw for beans (like me) you can just come up with ideas. Of course, I did draw that PS2 limitations one way back when.
I'd still like to volunteer as an artist if I ever get a scanner again.
