Im actually lucky, i made my name up, even googled it ! haha.

What then started to annoy me after 3 and a 1/2 years having my name Lonix, some one went and made a mule Loni. Every one started to ask if it was my mule and no it wasnt - some one else who was in the same LS as me. Know where he got his name from ;)

I like random names made up with a cross between characters or names i like.
Don, Lon
Sonic, Lonic (tonic XD) and replaced C with an X. Simple name but totally new (as far as i could tell at the time with google anyway).

I dont even try and make a name that is the same as a favourite character - no point other wise you get the whole CloudXX CloudX CloudXI .. goes on lol.

I bet you on the next FF you will find some one stolen my name ;) hope not cos its mine!! MINE !!

Much like Dragonball Z, this update is going to take a really long time and at the end a lot of people will be disappointed but won't admit it.

If you understand that names mean a lot, you wouldn't be saying there they're just names. I grew tired of hearing that noise in Pikko's thread. Some of us have online persona's that have gone on for a decade if not longer, predating the time when FFXI was just a glint in SE's eye. A name is the only thing that identifies us in the virtual world.

You might be happy with numberonekiller for a name, but the rest of us aren't. You don't understand why it's an issue and there's no way we can realistically explain it to you, so leave it at that. You either care about your name or you don't. Depends on the kind of person you are. And for those losing their names and no I have no idea whether or not I am, it's not going to be the same when we log in on March 23. It's going to feel like we're logging in a character that isn't ours. It's going to feel like starting over from scratch. It's going to feel like, why am I even bothering anymore when this company couldn't be bothered to tackle the name issue. Developers a third of SE's size tackled it no problem with their games. Not everyone walked away happy but it was fair. It was something. I think at this point it's even less about the names and more about SE not caring to do anything better than saying we're **** out of luck.

I think it's clear what side of the fence SE stands on in regards to names and my only question at this point is, why do we continue to give them some 70+ million dollars a year for such poor customer service and god oh why are we even looking forward to another decade of this ******** in FFXIV. And I'm part of that crowd. I don't even know what to say to that. That don't make no sense.

Its not just a name. In games like this, your name has alot of fond memories attached to it. You also can work up quite the reputation on a name, especially when it comes to only 1000-3000 local players you play with everyday.
When I moved from fairy to asura my char name 'Smokie' was taken :( so I had to switch to Smokei...which I dont really like because in all games I play Im usually Smokie all the time.

What kind of people work at SE that think their players will keep up with this BS over, and over, and over, and.... you get the idea?

Anyone who has ever been pissed at SE's way of solving problems should seriously think really, really hard about not continuing to support them. It's understandable if the players consider they have invested lots of time and money on their FFXI characters and will stay anyway, that's fine and all, but, if they are about to jump on FFXIV because it will be "new" they'll be in for a HUGE disappointment. SE will continue taking the same decisions on FFXIV that they made for FFXI, be aware, be very aware.

I am staying on FFXI because, up until now, nothing has seriously affected me directly. But, going into FFXIV knowing beforehand what it will require from my part? No thanks, I'd rather look into getting on a new MMO that's made by a company with a better reputation for solving problems, if I ever do get into another MMO at all.
