It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch date of the official FINAL FANTASY XI forum. Created to provide a venue for players to connect with each other and submit suggestions on game content, the forum will also serve as a centralized location for the FINAL FANTASY XI Team to monitor community opinion on its future plans.

We would like to take this opportunity to outline the official forum and the changes that are planned for existing official sites. The details of the forum itself will be made known at the time of launch.

Launch Date

March 8, 2011
The forum will initially be launched in beta version in order to test various features as well as server load. Although no limitations will be placed on the forum, features such as character data linking will be unavailable in the beginning. Furthermore, in the event that data becomes corrupted, posts may be rolled back by one day.

Forum Access

While login is not required to peruse the forum, those wishing to post comments and access other forum features must first log in with a Square Enix Account that has been linked to a PlayOnline ID. Please note that an active content ID for FINAL FANTASY XI will also be required.

*PlayOnline IDs cannot be used to log into the forum. Only those who have linked their PlayOnline ID to a Square Enix Account may access all forum features. For information on Square Enix Accounts, please refer to the following page:
US: http://www.playonline.com/cis/us/about.html
*The use of a Square Enix Security Token is not a requirement.

Development and Operation Teams

Representatives from Development and Operation teams will be participating in forum discussions.

Forum Languages

The FINAL FANTASY XI Forum will be available in Japanese, English, French and German language versions. Players will be free to access any of these languages regardless of their Square Enix Account region.

Although forum support will be offered across the board, posts made by Development and Operation team representatives may not be available in all languages. Posts may first appear in a certain language to be translated at a later time. Posts pertaining to language-specific issues, however, may not receive a translation.

Changes upon Forum Launch

The following changes will be made to existing sites upon the forum's launch.

Official Website

-Topics
Articles such as version update notices, future plans, and Development Team comments will instead be posted on the forum. The role of Topics and the official FINAL FANTASY XI Twitter account (http://twitter.com/FFXI_EN) will shift to that of delivering version update details. The periodic FAQ articles, too, will be hosted on the forum.

-Information
General information and server maintenance announcements will initially be posted on both the official website and forum. However, they will eventually be consolidated in the forum in the future.

Official Twitter Account

The Official FINAL FANTASY XI Twitter account, launched simultaneously in Japanese and English as a venue to facilitate communication with players, will change its role and focus on delivering version update details. Sneak previews on future content and answers to frequently asked questions will instead be posted on the forum.

We hope that the official forum will thrive and become a veritable treasure trove of player discussion and community feedback. We look forward to hearing from you!

BRAVO!!!! 9 years too late, though.

I will still use it, if it becomes popular enough, maybe SE will notice what we post, when we make threads on their very own forums. Oh, and in before people get banned from those forums for mentioning third party apps, and then ******** 'cause their thread got locked. XD

I want my experience points posts back!!!

Very shady move, SE, very shady indeed. SE don't like what we post about?

I wonder if your handle on the forums will correspond to a character name? If so, I wonder how prevalent trolling will be knowing that you're much more identifiable over there Smiley: smile

Good news about the devs participating in discussions, although I'm wondering how many speak English. I expect a lot of those discussions will take place on the Japanese forums instead.

It'll probably be your Square Enix Account ID, it'd make more sense that way.

Also, hurray for them only allowing active players to post, it'll prevent the "I'm bitter and used to play FFXI and want to ***** about it on a forum" that we see in other forums.

They jsut had a big shock with 14 failing, things like that shake things up. They honestly believed they could do no wrong and we should just take what they give and like it, that's changed a bit. They also want to keep the players in a place they have control over to try push 14 on XI players slowly, 11 playuers are the only audience that game will EVER possibly hope to pull.

They can just delete posts they don't like, it's their forum.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Weak sauce SE. You couldn't even add translation functions embeded to your multi-lingual game properly now you don't even try. Wwheres that guy who made the forum auto-trans, time to step into the big time, sell SE your program and don't look back.

I would never imagine they would actually implement an official forum.

I'm not sure how impressed I am though. It feels like they're introducing a surprise on the scene when everybody has gone home hours ago.

I just hope this function gets more used than that Linkshell community that has been in beta forever that no one knows about.

So how long until the "Drop PS2" threads start showing up? I'm giving it a good two hours from launch time.

Giving it two hours is pretty generous, I think. As much as that "suggestion" is throwna round on Twitter I give em 10-15 minutes, tops. Hell, it might even be the very first topic on the forum.

Is it even possible to have an SE ID without having bought and registered the token at some point or another? If so, this is news to me. Anyone actually done this, and is there any other reason to besides forum access?

Both glad and sad at the active ID requirement. Good news is it should keep trolling down a bit (and possibly scare people away from negative behavior [i]if[/] actions on the forum can affect their account), but sad since I don't have mine active for now due to playing Rift. I'll still be giving things a gander to see what comes of it, and I guess if there's something I'd really need to throw out, I could post by proxy through a friend. Doubt that'll happen, though.

I also imagine there will be a PS2 thread within minutes of going live if the forum itself doesn't explode shortly after launch.

If it's anything like the official StarCraft 2 forums, the vast majority of threads are going to be complaints about various aspects of the game that players don't like. While the squeaky wheel gets the oil, having hundreds of squeaky wheels all squeaking at the same time just isn't that effective. It's not a pleasant experience.

You do not need a security token to link your POL account to an SE account. When you register a token, all you simply do is change an option on your SE account. This means everyone that uses a token has linked their POL account to an SE ID without the use of a token at some point in time.

ZAM is where we will go when we don't want SE to know what we're talking about. Oh wait, that's BG.

I don't expect much change. After they launched the Linkshell Community, it got used for a few months and now the only thing anyone ever logs into it to do is to link an FFXIAH account.

So true, just had to "refresh" my link cause DNC and SAM jobs weren't showing correctly. Last time someone posted in my LS page was in 2007, we now have our very own website, after all.

Trolling makes forums more successful in the long run. I know you are going to disagree, but it is a fact. The things people generally dislike are petty name calling, which often gets lumped under the bus with trolling but the two are not mutual in their occurrence. A successful troll can provide excitement and laughs, someone who posts non stop insults invites neither. Case in point the recent guy who got muted for personal insults, not trolling 4 threads for the entire morning. Only to get banned 10 minutes later when he made a sock to continue.

That was an awesome morning. Not because of the silly discussion that eventually spanned 4 threads, but because you knew a mute was coming based on how he was replying.

Also I highly doubt it is going to be heavily moderated, and SE isn't likely going to ban you from the game because of what you posted on the interwebs. If the site even gets used at all. I for one am not going to b going to it.

A. Because I don't have my SE account linked to POL, not do I even recall my SE ID to log in with period.
B. If I can only understand 25% of the language used and must use a translator to figure it out, why waste my time when I can come discuss here in a predominant english community.

I am quite sure there are plenty of others in the same line of thought.

I'm going to make sure to do bi-weekly spirit threads. You'd think they'd read their own forum at least. (Even though they clearly don't read their own twitter)

I actually think they DO read the twitter to be honest - a fair few people used it to query the prevention of name-jacking crap that went on last world merge within minutes of the merge being announced... and the character creation prevention went up a couple of hours later.

It's actually scary just how monitored Twitter is by the big companies (although I do hate the thing when it's used as an e-yourmom slanging match between z list "celebs"), my husband works for a big energy company that have a team directly responsible for responding to customers via social networking media, and I've posted a throwaway - grrr wish I'd never switched to Xbroadband line and it's been picked up within the hour by the relevant company reps and dealt with.

and if they don't read twitter im sure they have seen you post about it here. My guess is that they just do not give a **** on how you think lolspirits should work. They told you what they are good for...Elemental Siphon. For everything else you 9 Perma pets, and 2 special use pets.

How is your bridge coming along, because after all this time crying I think you may need to make it bigger to cross that river of tears you have created.
