Know Your Realm: The 10th Vana'diel Census (June 28)Follow

We sent our seasoned team of surveyors out into the wilds of Vana'diel, and they've finally returned with the latest data detailing practically every aspect of the realm. In addition to the always-popular statistics on the number of relic and mythic weapons in circulation, we've amassed a cornucopia of new and tantalizing trivia, including-but not limited to-figures for existing Empyrean weapons and armor as well as the amount of Empyrean seals and upgrade items relinquished by enemies!

Furthermore, for the first time in Vana'dielian history, we'll be divulging some numbers we crunched regarding monster activity! They may defy all your expectations, so be sure to check them out!

Read on for the census results.
Interesting data, especially the most KO'd players monster table. In amongst all the NMs, you get gems like:

69. Goblin Smithy 6,764
95. Land Worm 5,540

Wow... I can't believe how in-depth this census is! Especially merits... it's very interesting to see where the majority is pouring their limit points.

Not a single person, on any server, has obtained Aymur!

I believe someone over at the BST forums has it, so chances are they took the census data just before they unlocked it.

Link here, it's Dharshi

Edit: Looks like he got it May 19th, so depending on when they started the Mythic data gathering it seems as though they just missed it

Edit 2: From the census itself

Really liked reading all of the new stuff they added this year, the mob KO's etc.

Unexpected things from this years census(to me):
Azdaja at #3 most killed. I'm not seeing a ton of Ochain's(I think his drop is used for it, maybe Harp to) on Cerberus at least, so I did not expect to see this many kills.

After all the time since Mythic's were introduced, there are still no Aymur's in existence. Though, someone in Bst forum completed one I guess, but must have been after the census was taken.

More Mythic Brd daggers complete than Dnc. Though I really don't remember the stats on either one, it still seems like a surprise. I know it's quite possible now, but I've yet to see a melee Brd above like 30.

Nagi's actually exist! Seems like such a waste of effort and time...
21 Claustrum's. Just read that again. Though it does have like 91 base damage now, Blm doesn't even get Cataclysm(I know, base damage has nothing to do with it) or Earth Crusher natively...

928 weeping Apocalypse's.(I'm giving total numbers which counts any upgraded pieces by the way, only 6 90 Claustrum's exist for example)

3,177 Verethragna, 34 Kenkonken and Glanzfaust combined.
3,177 people actually went through the hell of Chloris KI farming.

Goldsmithing is the least common craft to have at 100. Not exactly a surprise, but god it used to be so popular and common. We just don't really use stuff from that craft anymore.

The format seems different this time overall, and it seems like there were more comments on each section. It just seemed like a lot of pretty boring and pretty obvious statistics before, but they finally made it in to an interesting read.

EDIT: Guess the Aymur thing was caught by quite a few people, should maybe reload crap a bit more often.

It would seem Ragnarok is where the action is at!

Not only do they have the most GM calls, but they have all the gil too.

I want to party with these guys, they're animals!

I think you read it wrong. That isn't the 3rd most killed mob, it's the 3rd most deadly mob (ie. killed the most players).

Edit: 3rd, not 2nd...damn sand sweepers are everywhere

Find it kinda funny that the top 6 jobs people play now are the original 6 from when the game started.

And thus WHM falls from the top position of most played job, replaced by MNK and WAR. Alas, white robes, your reign was long but fair.

There was actually a lot of moving and shaking on that jobs list. MNK being the biggest winner, but DNC, BST, and SMN managed to gain a lot of spots, while PLD and BRD dropped like rocks.

Oh you're totally right. That's what I get for reading that so damn early.

And it totally makes sense. Everything about Azdaja screams death(How are Isgebind and Dragua even in the same category).

The Sandsweeper part, now that I can think clearly and have been corrected, just seems cheap. A majority of those deaths are lv.30 Leeches getting to damn close to Typhoon and Meltdown, not lv.75-90 characters dieing to them normally. Bluffaloes(Though way down on the list) are pretty much in the same category(Key leeches running right in front of Snort).

Meltdown can kill 90s too if they're not at full HP. It's a seriously powerful attack.

Not really surprising, though. With the other expansions you need to complete a large percentage of the storyline to access zones. Besides the earring and storyline, there's no real reason to do WotG.

and also now that the past has been all but abandoned it is not shocking that people aren't doing the storyline since it isn't particularly soloable (at least at parts) and doesn't it require you to actually do campaign etc? Campaign pretty much sucks now that no one does it.

Anyway, I like that Asura is the chatty-est server. has the chatty-est linkshell... lol read that wrong

This is the best part:

69 Goblin Smithy 6,764
70 Vanguard's Avatar 6,697

HAHAHAHAHAHA

EDIT: Also, someone on Asura apparently has over 48,000 deaths. Would love to shake that guy's hand; I'm barely at 2k.

It was a number of afactors, I think. The lack of zone access and subpar rewards surely didn't help, but it went deeper than that. I CERTAINLY blame the long, painful, frustrating leadup that the missions were introduced in - 1 fight and a few CSs does not a story update make. The necessity of nation-specific quests made it even harder to find people as most picked only one nation to do quests from, so you had to hope that people cared about the story and ALSO were from your nation. And honestly, from what I saw, the main plot was pretty dull. Too many cutscene missions.

I still think they got it right with CoP - not necessarily the level caps, but unlocking zones with missions. People did CoP to get sea access, and once there it wasn't a far path towards completion.

Shouldnt a census include the population...in this case the number of active players? Seems like an odd stat not to have in a census

It is pretty strong, but has such a long(And Obvious animation compared to something like Mijin or Self-Destruct/Hypothermal Combustion) readying time that you can actually run away pretty easily(Unless you're in Dusk.) or with all these melees subbing Dnc now, plenty of time to stun.

I usually just kill these on Mnk for leeching friends, so yet to actually be killed by it.

I'm always shocked to see that there are actually people out there who choose the most god awful merits. Defender on WAR. The WHM who decides they really need to go 5/5 Banish Effect. Hide Recast on THF.

MNK in particular simply baffles me. People spend merits on Dodge? Really? Who are these fools doing 5/5 Mantra? Why are there SO MANY people doing 5/5 Formless freaking Strikes?

I seriously laughed out loud at seeing a mundane ol' sandsweeper as #2, right below Shinryu. On a list of dragons and chimeras, baring their fangs and readying their battle poses, it stands there in tranquility, wondering when it might next face the opportunity to curl into the fetal position and blow the **** out of some noobs.

Didn't people used to kill their self countless times over to lower their level for uh... Astral Burns was it? There was a reason years ago.

They release this estimated number every year in their fiscal press release. It's around 400k subscribers I think.
