Relic Armor Upgrades (11/16/2011)Follow

[dev1041] Relic Armor Upgrades
*The following content is still in development. Specific details may differ from the release version.

Relic Armor will be upgradable via Trial of the Magians.

Two upgrade stages will be available, each offering the following augmented attributes:
Stage 1: Item-related augments
Stage 2: Merit point-related augments

*Relic and Relic +1 Armor will result in the same items after upgrading. Owners of Relic +1 Armor will be rewarded with less demanding conditions for the first upgrade stage.

Upgraded armor pieces will have a higher level requirement than their base forms.
Armor pieces upgraded to Stage 2 will be storable with the Moogle Porter service.

Interesting. This might make me come back if they pull it off right. It'll probably just be another AF3 V2.0 thing though, in which case meh.

This is enticing to me considering I haven't got AF3+1 or 2 for my main jobs yet since I just returned, and I still have a bit to go before I will have +2.

Since I've already started toying around in Dynamis to get some coins, and gotten relic drops along the way, perhaps I can upgrade some of them for wearing til I get A3+2 (unless they're bettter =D)

I'm not gonna even bother or think about this until its been implemented and i can see what SE's definition of 'demanding' is in this instance.

Hmmm. I have a few pieces I upgraded over the years (notably BLM gear got +1'd along the way).

It's going to be hard to beat the stats on some pieces of Empyrean +2, though.

+1 already gave +11, but not even I'm that pessimistic. I expect at least +20-25 still-semi-useless MAB (will be nice for Infernal/Herc spam though).

+1 relic armor: 50 whiteshells
NQ relic armor: 1 Jadeshell

Perhaps something like that? Of course, I kind of hope they won't be asking for currency, I have a Mandau to finish lol. But I have trouble imagining what other items they would ask for.

Hard to get too excited without some examples of their intentions, especially with how useless some of the pieces were even at 75. Slapping 4-5% Haste on the Duelist's Gloves would be nice, though.

Can't help but wonder how the "Merit group" augment will be. Will it just be an enhance to Job ability or job trait in question? (Rhetorical question)


If so really it's just a gear swap then anything (unless the merit applies to job traits)

I have a feeling they gonna add the good stuff to the relics pieces that are no longer used...for DNC that's pretty much any piece besides body and head(and i suppose shoes on a high eva mob) lol

I feel the greatest weakness with red mage meleeing these days is that the gear doesn't change much post 75. Calmecac trousers, zelus tiara and those level 92 feet is what changes the TP set for me. If anything would make me more interested in upgrading RDM relic gear would be meleeing stats with increased enspell damage plus making tier 2 enspells more relevant to anything. Emp +2 gear already boosts magic accuracy/attack and increases duration on enhancing spells.

I'll never understand why everyone still has a hardon for relic armor these days, but at least it's TotM system so that's a first step in the right direction.

I'd guess they're just new seal-like items, so

NQ WHM Armor: 50 Cleric's Seal: Body
HQ WHM Armor: 10 Cleric's Seal: Body

Possibly with more creative names (but I wouldn't put money on that!)

When they revamped CoP Dynamis they said that the items required to upgrade your Relic armor would only drop if your SJ is restricted. That could be good, bad, or terrible. Hopefully to get the drop the mob just needs to be staggered by somebody SJ restricted, rather than, say, the items only dropping if nobody on the hate list has a SJ (or even worse, only dropping from white staggers).

Of course, since they did hold it back for further work, maybe they changed their mind about the whole only dropping with restricted subjob thing, and they just drop from NMs in all of the zones, whether city, northlands, CoP.

Although the wording is confusing, I'm pretty sure that what they mean by

Is that Stage 1 is done by turning in items, and Stage 2 is done by spending merit points. Like, to upgrade your relic hands, first you bring whatever item the moogles demand, now you have relic hands +2. To make them +3, the moogle will take 15 (or whatever number) merit points from you.

I know I have a hardon for the look of the Valor relic gear....but it's lolPLD so looks are about all it's worth.

I can only speak for DNC ins terms of AF2 and some of the gear is still used and rather needed(just like AF1) in some cases.

Is there other jobs that still use their AF2? (if you was serious about the job)

BST has several very useful AF1/AF2 - specifically AF1/AF2 body (reward) and AF1/AF2 feet (reward) and Relic hands (reduce range of jug pet spawning levels to 0-1 your level instead of 0-2)

Saotome Kotes for meditate macros.

Oh, and Relic can be +1'd already, but not with ToTM... wonder how the +1 pieces would be affected.

I use relic pieces on just about every one of my jobs during macro swaps. I haven't personally +1'd anything, because the difference in stats from the NQ to HQ haven't seemed relevant enough with the new higher level gear. If something increased significantly for the macro purpose (i.e. enfeebling skill) then I would definitely do it.

It sounds like NQ Relic and +1 Relic will upgrade to the same thing after stage 1.

For drg I still use drachen brais and af/relic head piece for hb macros. Wyrm mail for call wyvern, wyrm brais for high jump (even though h. jump is rarely used anymore) and the same goes for jump and drachen greaves.

For my 6 jobs (# of relic pieces that are still useful at 95 in parentheses):

MNK (2/5) - Feet (counterstance macro), Hands (chakra macro)
THF (1/5) - Hands (Treasure Hunter)
NIN (2/5) - Hands (nighttime haste/STR), Feet (ninjutsu skill, I love my Koga+1 feet for stubborn kurayami procs)
COR (2/5) - Head (Phantom Roll), Body (Random Deal)
PUP (2/5) - Body (pet melee), Hands (pet/master TP)
DNC (4/5) - Head (curing waltz), Body (violent flourish), Feet (steps), Legs (jig duration)

Every one of the above is a macro piece only, except for NIN hands which are an excellent TP/WS piece at night. But every one of the jobs has at least one, and in most cases multiple pieces that are still unbeaten for their specific macro purpose.

I guess I should go ahead and start turning in some of my -1 pieces now, in case they don't change the current system that you can only get 1 Relic/AF+1 piece every 1 RL week from Sagheera...

It's probably gonna be currency for the first trial and a ******* of merits for the second. The question is just what kind of stats will they be implementing. Based on what they said (2 stages, +1 will be easier to start, 1st stage won't be storable), I think we can assume the following:

Stage 1: x Amount of Currency for NQ relic, x-y amount for +1; result is +1 base with augmented stats
Stage 2: z amount of merits; result is +2 relic with increased stats and augments added as permanent stats, thus allowing storage
