I'm assuming the new level 96 job abilities are the long promised alternate 1-hours.

THF loses: It's a glorified, not-guaranteed Aura Steal.

SMN gets the equivalent of Manafont and Chainspell all rolled into one. Pure win.

Bard gets a 3rd or 4th or 5th song. Super uber mega win.

WHM one could be very useful.

I really hope that Great sword with tripple attack +2 is a drop from the new naakual.. Other than that the pants and head look like promiseing pieces for war and mnk respectively.

Kinda interesting how upgraded AF icons have a new names for them.

For me this has not been great news so far.

I cannot take advantage of the unlocking a empy WS as I don't have the quest completed ( for completing all of VW?)

So that's not gonna happen.

Also I am not really sure but are there any Empy armor upgrades? I saw the NPC talking about upgrading AF armor into lvl 109 gear, but that stuff looked like the level 50 odd gear all over again but with higher stats... is that right or am I missing something?

Basically I was hoping for the EMR update to help me come closer to the delve guys, but it hasn't, I am now even further away as I don't have much of VW done and am not likely to either now...

I was totally looking forward to this update but I do feel further off the pace now than ever before, think I will just log off and sulk for a while until I decide what I am going to do, I am quite disappointed tbh

There is lots of new content but alot of it looks like grinding BCNM's over and over just to get armor for jobs that you don't want to play but are forced to if you want to get anywhere... that is not fun in my book, sorry but it just isn't.

#7 Nov 04 2013 at 4:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Right now it's only the Artifact armor that can be upgraded.

Wasn't there supposed to be Abyssea armor upgradeable too in this update?

I am trying to stay as positive as I can, really not trying to look gloomy here but I am disappointed with the EMR WS as this rules me out, I feel like I waited a long time for this update hoping it would bring me closer to other players, but it hasn't, after an hour of getting the update I was desperate to receive I have just logged off the server, I love this game so much but I feel like I am just so far off the pace now, and if you don't have the best gear you are just not good enough... I hoped my 90 Empy weapon would at least give me a WS I could use whilst off handing the weapon, it did... BUT i need to have completed VW, which i am nowhere near to doing, so whilst others get that luxury and deserve it, i do not get it... and as such i fall even further behind than i already was /sigh.

I really pity anyone hoping to start this game or return to it after so many years away, the gaps are just getting bigger and bigger, you have those with the best gear, and then there's the rest of us... it does seem like that, there's very little in between.

My other half hasn't even bothered to get the update yet and is in no rush to either... i am not sure this update will bring new life into the game... i am really not sure about that at all.

Edit:

I don't know when i will next log on, a game ive played for 7 years almost every day... it is a very sad time for me, i probably expected far too much, and got nothing. Really quite sad at the moment. Sorry for ranting on.

I think you only need the 3 starter town paths completed, actually. If you don't care about getting procs and maxing the lights every time, these fights are now mostly very easy to complete without much help, even if you don't use voidclusters.

Yeah, just checked, Guardian of the Void is what's unlocked by finishing the 3 city paths. No Jeuno mobs necessary.

Well, VW is easily 6 mannable now with Skirmish+1/Yorcia Skirmish equip/Delve stuff until the Provenance bit :P And WoE should be pretty easy now too on some jobs :) Actually did Ceizak Bee Wildkeeper Reive earlier and walked out with 3 drops: New axe Ilvl 115, Xux hat and Mauler's Mantle(war cape) for a measly 15k bayld across the board for all the WKR, even the brand new one :) Quite happy with the changes tbh, either do WoE NM trials and have easier coins/seals/dice/residues requirements or skip all NM camping and pay 30 coins and 100 dice/residues to upgrade WoE base weapon, depending how you wanna do it :) New colonization equipment is 15-20k bayld for the +1 version (thurandaut/Orvail and such) Also, the revamped WKR drops pretty much trash their Skirmish equip equivalent unless you got the double attack/Crit rate +2% augments with 4% PDT XD

Time to gather all the magical maps you previously had to quest.
Lovely-jubley!~

EDIT:

Just had a look at the stats for the new BST AF upgrade set and my GOD...
Lots of stuff for pets!

Head has pet acc +20
Body has enhanced reward effect/augments reward 3 (I assume it removes lots of enfeebles from your pet when you use reward.)
Hands has pet haste +3%
Leg reduces reward recast time!
Feet has pet acc+10 and pet attack +10

Plus lots of magic def/evasion!

Not sure if I would full time the whole set as there are some Empyrean pieces that I would probably still use if I was using my pet exclusively (like maybe ferine quijotes+2 for stout servant+1).
I think that ferine feet may be relegated to a macro piece for spur if I ever got to upgrade bst AF because these are amazing.

Ok so I went hunting for some survival guides with the hope that I could unlock the teleports between outposts and this is what I found:

I had all outposts unlocked via conquest (which was pretty hard being aligned to Bastok as Ronf and Saurtabaruta are very rare.) and was able to unlock most of the suvival guides around the globe.
However the following outposts do not have a survival guides to examine and so far (as I can see) cannot teleport between outposts as the seems to be no book at all.

1)Aragoneu (Meriphataud Mountains)
2)Li'Telor (The Sancuary of Zitah)
3)Kuzotz (Altepa)
4)Vollbow (Cape Terrigan)
5)Uplands Elshimo (Yhoator Jungle)
6)Lowlands Elshimo (Yuhtunga Jungle)
7) Tavnazia

This isn't linked to conquest either as I have found survival guides at outposts that are not currantly under Bastok control on Valefor.

PS for those who don't know what I am on about, SE added the ability to teleport between outposts by checking a floating white book called a "Survival Guide".
Examining each book at each teleport once will give you the ability to teleport to another outpost you previously visited.
(Except SE missed a few.)

Anyone know what the new requirement is for AF3 +2 upgrades are? It was mentioned it was "relaxed" but doesn't give a number. I am sure the npc will tell you but I am at work at the moment. I know it was 9 for body AF3 +2 and 6 for everything else. Any know the new numbers yet?

Thanks.

I've been grinding WoE every few hours since Monday, while people are running in and out of the walks. Devious die and freyed pouch of deviousness seem to drop more often than the sack of Liminial residue. The number of die needed to take WOE coin weapons is 35 now I'm hoping residue is just as cheap. Once I get a full stack of both I can take two weapons past chesma and right to 99 WoE. However the Liminial Residue is harder to find as I'm already up to 64 in die and 2 on residue. Getting freyed sacks speed things up alot. Selling or AH a haste sheild, hastey pinion and, other synth materials to easily make back the 1,000 per ki to partipate.

As I under stand it the emp ws are just as nice on delve boss weapons and the synth weapons made from their remain. Like Razorfurry and that blue great sword whose name I cant remember, Most folks I've talked to would rather work on relec Lv99 or myth/Emp if they already have it at 99 (got a farm going for heavy metal plates?). Then use a fast coin WoW weapon for the emp ws then you can use everything on the relec or Delve boss weapons, or any weapon for that matter..

However does anyone know if Rune Fencer can use the Emp Weapon Skill on great sword once its unlocked? Can we trash the WoE weapons once the WS is unlocked? Can we also trash all the other magian weapons that are not goin to be enhanced (elemental, multi hit, tp/physical) or are they making a way to redeem them for other items like they did with exchanging anchient currency for relec upgrade items?

Unless SE goofed, RNF shouldn't be able to use the Emp WS since they can't use the Emp weapon.

As for old magian gear, I've seen no mention of continuing the system or offering trade-ins toward other future content. It's a shame since it's something soloists could peck away for most trials, but right now endgame progression seems rather staunchly group-oriented. People who also thought the RME upgrades would be handed to them just because also seem a bit angsty over the upgrade requirements.

The weird thing is people are not complaining as much when they don't get to Tojil, as long as the other 5 Nm s are killed now since they drop cases and other RME loot. Then theres talk of some people trying to form a mnk/war(main tank), mnk/run x2, brd, thf, whm alliance to try chain farming Volatile Matamata lately. Can the feild NMs also be farmed for RME upgrades?

Nobody was ever under the assumption we would get our upgrades handed to us for freejust because. They did however fairly assume with all things considered via the mouth of our FFXI producer and his stance on replacing RMEs for good in the future that we would not be doing the very thing they actually implemented. I'm pretty sure anyone who wields a 99 RME has earned the right to moan and groan over it, when they have to work their *** off just to get their last hoorah in before their weapons are replaced forever. FFXI isn't exactly doing so great right now that SE can afford to throw group grindy content like this at us. They throw it as us then follow up with tidbits about how they suddenly understand the need for more solo-ish content and 6 man groups rather than 18. What the hell?

Server merges will need to take place before you can have a realistic expectation of getting your RMEs upgraded imo(thus why I think what we got sucked because it was far more grind than what was reasonable per upgrade for the sake of ensuring delve/BCs staying populated over a long period of time) and if only I could have my 400 million gil back. Gil has to go somewhere and sometimes it goes to waste, sometimes not. So that's them breaks in the name of allowing everyone to obtain the best weapons rather than the rich. I'm definitely not against it I just want my 400 million back. I think it's great that the game is at least allowing people to progress when once upon a time you needed bots and or wealth to get anywhere. I'm all for it and then some. I just want my gil(or ancient currency) back and no hard feelings, or something done to permit our characters to continue using RME strengths with different weapons thereby solving the entire problem of tiered progression and RMEs in which case, no hard feelings.

I guess my snarky side sees a bit of comical irony to it. "Delve killed FFXI!" some would proclaim. "Here, have a 2005-style grind to upgrade your RMEs!" says SE. Heartbreak. Expecting any kind of financial compensation is unlikely and, more cynically, foolish. The first aspect comes in the currency costs naturally fluctuate. The latter is basically what I'd call the early adopter's tax. Otherwise, we should be refunding everyone who bought a Thief's Knife back in the day, or really any other item that swiftly depreciated in value after a patch/expansion. Just where do you stop?

Philosophically, I'd say the devs blundered by adding not just one tier of prestige weapons, but three. Or more aptly, behind such blatantly unreasonable tasks that players can't help but get pissy when suddenly new gear (finally) rolls around to replace them. Not only that, but they've refused to budge on those entry level requirements, making ignorance of their presence for new-comers a far more tempting option (aka Why farm Dynamis for 3 months when you can get a Delve weapon in 3 days?). Now, we could don our tinfoil hats and surmise this is a not so subtle FU from SE for even forcing them to revisit RMEs, but there's also an uncharacteristically optimistic side of me that believes the steep cost was deliberate so the vets would be more willing to carry other people through Delve in exchange for any of the upgrade items that drop. Will XI players unite under this banner? Hard to say. Are server mergers justified? I don't doubt it. Do the new crests need to drop more often? Probably.

I wasn't a fan of the Dynamis grind to begin with (old or 2.0) and staunchly believe all content has a lifespan of enjoyment for an individual before it just becomes a grind. As such, I'm certainly not a fan of them just recycling old BCs with hard mode versions years after the fact. It simply leaves me with the question, "What kind of new content could XI had gotten if SE didn't have to pander to these dinosaurs of design?" At the very least, giving an option to learn Emp WS was the right thing to do. Now for Relic WS...

Thanks for the feedback regarding Sacred Kindred’s crests.

We’ve made it so that as the level of the monsters become higher the drop rate on seals becomes higher as well.

As there is a difference between monster levels even within the same area, this is just a rough guide, but we’ve establish the drop rates for Sacred Kindred’s crests in the below manner for the monsters in each area:

Area Sacred Kindred Crest drop rate

High:
Kamihr Drifts
Woh Gates

Medium:
Yorcia Weald
Marjami Ravine
Dho Gates

Low:
Yahse Hunting Grounds
Ceizak Battlegrounds
Foret de Hennetiel
Morimar Basalt Fields
Moh Gates
Sih Gates
Cirdas Caverns

Quote:
Originally we would get seals while we leveled up and then use those seals, but we aren’t leveling up now and it’s pretty rough to go get seals as a means of having a good time playing.

It’s true that the feeling between defeating enemies to obtain seals and obtaining seals as a byproduct of defeating enemies with a different goal in mind is different.
Currently there are not many opportunities to defeat regular monsters in Adoulin areas, so in future version updates we would like to increase the benefits for doing so.

Quote:
Can you make it possible to exchange seals with Shemo to receive Sacred Kindred’s crests?

When giving consideration to the conditions after implementation and also to the amount of seals below High Kindred’s crests in circulation, we had expected instanced areas to experience congestion and decided not to implement this in the recent update.

We will be addressing this in a future version update.
We plan on keeping the exchange rate and rules as they are.

Thank you for all the feedback regarding relic, mythic, and empyrean weapon upgrades.
I’d like to respond about two aspects of feedback we have been receiving.

  • Number of required items for upgrades

There have been comments that 300 items is too much. Instead of reducing the number of items that are needed, we would like to make various content where you can gradually collect these, and increase the number of ways you can obtain them.

  • Empyrean weapons

There has been feedback mentioning that compared to relic and mythics, empyreans are weak, but by receiving the boons of the aftermath with even 100 TP you can gain stats that are by no means inferior to relic and mythic weapons.

Of course we understand that there are sensitive aspects to this topic, but as the version update as only just been implemented we would like to keep very careful tabs on the situation.

Akihiko Matsui wrote:

I understand everyone's feelings and concerns.

While the below might not be a direct answer, I’d appreciate it if you could look over it until the end.

In the November version update we implemented a system where you can select the difficulty of battles. The aim of this was to make it easier to play the game.

I believe the same goal applies to the number of people needed to participate in content, and using an ENM style for battlefields, as suggested, is definitely one way to make the game easier to play.

For ENMs, we adopted the currently used system due to the way the content was structured and the way rewards were passed out. With this it was easy to create variations depending on the number of players who participated, and adding to this you also need a key item and re-entry is every five days.

With that said, it really all depends on the structure and method of rewarding players for content that is added in the future, but the development team’s focus is to make it easier to play. Based on that, we would love to keep hearing your feedback.

Oh get lost Matsui!
Why are the seals only dropping in expansion areas? :(
Kindred seals in the past dropped from lvl 50 monsters and were mostly kept for level 75 boss battles and seem to drop everywhere!

Because these new ones only drop from mobs that are in the hundreds, which obviously only exist in the Adoulin areas.

It is possible to get mobs at level 100 in Heroes of Abyssea zones at least, which is why ffxidb is showing a few of them dropping in those areas.

However, at max level they range from 98-100 I think, meaning only 1 in 3 mobs on average (once they've been leveled up) even has a chance to drop a sacred crest, so it's obviously not an ideal method to get them.
