Description

North of Tahrongi Canyon are the Meriphataud Mountains, a vast array of rocky hills and crevasses split by a gigantic bone-like structure known as Drogaroga's Spine. The Meriphataud Mountains is a crossroads for people heading to Windurst, Jeuno or The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah. On the east side of the zone is the massive Castle Oztroja, the main fortress for the yagudo race. Many unsuspecting adventurers have fallen prey to the yagudos and goblins that patrol the zone.

Many citizens of Vana'diel believe that Drogaroga's Spine -- which stretches nearly the length of the zone -- was the spine of the mythical dragon Drogaroga. If you investigate this further, you just might discover that this spinal structure was built for something else entirely different.

Bird from Sandy to Windy?
# Aug 21 2007 at 1:30 AM Rating: Decent
I've just gone into Sandys choco stables, and the girl asked me to deliver a bird to Windy Woods. Given that I've only ever caught the ferry to Mhaura and ran from there to Windy, how can you get from Sandy to Windy on foot or bird?
The route seems obvious but last time I checked the Spine stopped you from getting through the south and north areas of Meriphataud Mountains. Or have I blinked and missed something really obvious?

EDIT: Ignore me, I'm insane. You can run straight under the middle of the spine..

You can run under the spine. There is space under it.

The entrance to the Castle is at the edge there in L-8, just above Drogaroga's Spine. Keep going east from where the road ends at J-8 and you should see (or be near) the entrance. Good luck!

I've only found one so far, and it was at the end of the ridge in the center of (J-10). Admittedly, it was already hot weather when I zoned from Tahrongi, and I walked straight to (J-10) from the zone on foot, so it's possible that the Fire Elemental had wandered up to a full square on the map away from its spawn point when I found it. It conned about easy prey to my level 36 Blm, who made short work of it with a Water II, an Aero II, a Drain, an Aspir, and a Thunder.
1 thing to say

What do you guys think. I have seen almost the whole world (except for khazam) and I, personally, think that the Drogaroga Spine is one of the creepiest things out there

Do you guys think, if he's careful, a lvl 15 warrior could take on some of the weaker stuff solo?

In the Mountains? Are you kidding? The weakest mob here would smack your lvl 15 to death in about 4 hits man.

I'm a BLM what lvl should I be before soloing on this map?

I'm almost lvl 17, and xp is starting to slow down in the T. Canyon. And yes i do group from time to time, it just for when I'm low on time and don't want to take the time to find a group.

Level 17 is the perfect time to take advantage of the Maze of Shakrimi (sp?) in the upper right corner of Tahrongi Canyon. In the first couple of rooms there are worms. Stay far distance and just bomard each other with spells. You should be fine (especially with a drain spell and other enfeebles) and it's excelent exp all the way up to 20. I recommend it over the dunes as you're not sharing exp and if you chain the worms you'll get 200+ exp for kill, guarenteed. You just have to really watch out for the goblins in the area. They are much higher level and will devour you.

Crane Flies

its a quick drop too. I was killing them off with whm 34/blm 17. I killed prolly 12 in 10-15 mins or so pretty easily - dropped 7 grass.

Just to follow up they are not too hard to kill with a small group of 18-20s. (I did it easily wiht a 20WAR, 19THF, and 17WHM and a larger party could probably do it at lower levels). No cranes seem to appear south of the spine and the best place IMO to fight them is going to be right by the outpost, where there are tons of them. They have a somewhat nasty area effect attack and an irritating poison one, but they were all high DC-low Tough and went down easy.

Biggest worry here is going to be the occasional aggro from a gob. The muggers and leechers can be nasty, esp if they catch you at the end of another fight. Fortunately its not hard to zone into the Sauro Champ if you get in trouble. Very easy way to get your Gausbit grass on the way to Jeuno.
