Just got this thing now (Thanks to a very nice RDM). Mysticmaker seems to wander in a circular pattern around the monumental three rocks and down towards the entrance of the opposite tunnel at J9.
Its just a matter of luck where he spawns. My suggestion is if you have a friend to go with you, have one person on each side so you have a good chance of being near him when he spawns.
Theres usually a good 6-8 people so you need to do all you can to increase your chances of getting him.
As for the drop, ive been in 3 parties killing him and the earring has dropped each time (noone had THF sub on each occasion).
Good luck to anyone trying to get this, but please try and bring friends.

I have camped him for months now....have claimed him a bunch of times...in groups...solo....several times beat out 10 other players...no freakin earring yet. I hate this guy. I hate this place. I hate it all! Stupid earring should be at least 50% drop. Good luck peoples...I've started helping people w/links and such...trying to build up karma!

im 0/9 on this *******, with over 60 hours of camping him /sigh. course theres always at least 8 people camping him.

We had been camping him as an LS for three of us that needed this item for a week or two off and on. First day we achieved ToD without pull so came back later on for pop. Got pull , got drop, one down. Had come back a few times later on that week with no luck with drop, plus competition is a biotch for this guy on Diabolos. Few days ago i went in there early on afternoon just to check it out, was bored and nuthing to do. Not to my surprise there was atleast 7 other people in there already, and they were all casting stoneskins, utsusemi's, and blinks so i could tell pop time was near. I had Dia ready and locked on opposing target awaiting pop.. 3 min later right in front of me, cast dia, got pull and solo ..... keeping in mind that everything in here is EP to me and aggros to site lol. With angry emotes flashing accros my screen i see the taunts and the laughs as 2 goblins and 2 cocatrice aggro me in fight with no help from the crowd of indiviuals just patiently awaiting my death. Stoneskin, Utsusemi Ichi Master, never got hit once... had to convert but killed mob, got Moldavite, and ran outta there away from my sleeping mobs... Woot.. yayy whatta day.. soloed as RDM60/NIN12 god bless the rdm power.

Me (RDM65) and a friend of mine (WAR75) went after this guy tonight. Every time the window was up, no less than 7-8 others were standing there, and they ALL had NPCs out. Not sure what that is all about.
Three spawns, two claims, one Moldavite drop. First two spawns were exactly 2 hours 30 minutes apart. Second and third spawns were exactly 2 hours 20 minutes apart. My friend seems to think it`s a 30 minute window, between 2 and 2.5 hours with possible spawns at 5 minute intervals (2:00, 2:05, etc. to 2:30). Seemed so to me, and he`s camped this for four earrings now...
First time we claimed it was Full Moon, made us hopeful for the earring, no go. Next time Profblix was up we claimed again, 90% Waning Crescent (for those of you who actually care about the moon phase or believe it affects drops...maybe it does <shrug>). Moldavite dropped along with Burst.
He also drops 6000 gil per kill, a small bonus. :)

This guy's weak, his spells are his only real problem (because he's a BLM), but I solo'd him as a 70 SMN, down in 2 minutes.
Logged on and checked, noone in zone, he was standing unclaimed. I started off with Leviathan, Spinning dive for 983 dmg, I ran to the cockatrice tunnel, released and summoned Carbuncle. Had Carbuncle fight him for a minute, then released, summoned Ramuh. Used Chaotic Strike for 1900 or so damage and it died, gave me a damn scroll no earring.

Rather easy as 48 bst. If you can charm the leeches you can kill him. He has weak melee that the leeches can easily take. Biggest threat are his spells, freeze hit a leech for 1200. Very easy to not get hit since you can run out of range while looking for another pet to throw at him. Poison II is the only thing that nailed me. Thundaga III and some gil was my drop.

I must be one of the luckiest RDM/BLM's around... XD
I was out in Mhaura hangin' with a friend when I decided I should go look and see if I shoudl camp tthis NM since I had been needing a moldavite earring since lvl 60-ish (68 as of this writing).
I snuck into the area, did a quick survey and found all EP's... and to my dismay, a lvl 75 RDM was beating the crap out of this guy. After about 3 minutes of watching the fight, he died and the RDM left the area. To my amazement, only 1 other person was in the area (who happened to be a good friend of mine) and he was AFK.
I waited in the area, practiced my spells and chatted with some friends for 2 hours (since I had the exact ToD), started circling the area on invis to see when/where he'd pop. All this time, nobody showed up. After abotu 10 minutes or so of circling, he popped right behind me. I pulled him with a Fire spell and immediately engaged him. Tried to silence him to no available (2x) and just started beating the crap out of him with my sword. About 2 minutes into the fight, he threw up Manafont and nuked me with Stone III and Aeroga II... took me down to 300 hp... couple quick cures (I had Stoneskin back up to prevent interruptions) and was back in shape when 2 other gobbies linked. I kept them asleep and focused on the NM... Then I see him drop "Mysticmaker Profblix starts casting Freeze" and I was like "oh hell" but a quick blow from my sword took him out of it. keeping my cool I swapped between melee, sleep, and keeping my enfeebs up on the nm... Within another 3 minutes he was down for the count... and I see:

1/1 on the earring, and an exciting fight to boot! XD I was amazed there wasn't anybody really camping it when I showed up... :P needless to say, I'm counting my blessings and might go back to help a friend when I'm higher lvl. XD

I was camping this sucker for about 5 days already only had one claim so far and the lvl 72 thf/nin and me (60blm/whm) wiped on that one due to me not realizing the Thf didnt have Utesemi up and I didnt stun Freeze. There was 4 other campers in the room so I wasnt getting my hopes up to get this claim but low and behold Mystic pops about a sreen length away from me but out of everyone elses sight range so I try to Stun to claim but I was too far away so in blind panic forgeting about Dia to claim I ran at Mystic with my Staff raised and claimed him by melee hit lol after a short battle with no misshaps I see this..

Good lord, today was the luckiest day I've had in a while. I had left myself afk in East Altepa as level 44 Blm.. didn't die overnight, I might add. Got on, warped, switched to Thief, and decided to camp Mysticmaker. I got to the spawn, saw that there were 5 other people there, sighed, and went afk.
I got a drink, read for a while, watched TV, I wasn't even paying attention to the game. Got up and went to the bathroom after a bit, came back, sat down, switched to FFXI. Waited five seconds, and he spawned right in front of me. No flinching, no freaking out, nothing like that. Just calmly hit F8 and then ctrl-8. Sarid mugs 1926 gil from Mysticmaker Profblix.
"...Oh, ok." I think calmly, as I pull him away from the other gobbies. A Hunter linked right when I pulled him, but to no avail. Hide, Ranged Attack on MM, then pulled him out of the room.
He missed almost every physical attack, and never cast anything worse than a single Stone III. That did 560, of course, but I got lucky. He spent half the fight casting Tornado and Freeze. I threw on Perfect Dodge after the Stone III, just in case. I was down to about 400 hp at that point, but the only things he cast after that were Freeze once, Water II, and a few debuffs that all got resisted (Burn, Drown, and Bind I think). Killed him with a 960 damage Dancing Edge, and was greeted with this sight:
Sarid gains 15 experience points.
Sarid obtains 9070 gil.
Sarid obtains a Goblin mask.
Sarid obtains a suit of Goblin armor.
Sarid obtains a scroll of Thunder IV.

Can a lvl 64 BLM and 62 DRG kill him with no problems?

Well I won't go into the gory details of all my camps, but I finally got him at 7:45am EST on a Friday after 0/4 on claims. I'm a 74blm hume and all I can say is don't mess around. It came out to a close fight because I messed around trying to silence, bind and sleep him. I did get him silenced once, but never again. Just claim him, cast silence if it makes you feel better, but if it doesn't stick the first time forget it. Just let the mana flow and don't stop until he's dead.
Manafont, is necessary, blink, stoneskin, protect, and shell are very good insurance, but as long as you keep him away from the other goblins you won't have any trouble. Only dropped Thundaga III.

I don't play mage jobs (WHM 18 is my highest), so have never bothered camping this before. However, a few people in my linkshell have been wanting it and we decided to camp it for a while before our Sunday Dynamis run. The others are still in an xp party, so I head out there solo as RNG/NIN 70, basically just to get a Time of Death. Bear in mind that I've never camped or even researched this guy before... my linkshell have told me the vague spawn area, but that's it.
As I'm running into the Labyrinth, I do a widescan after about 30 seconds. My heart nearly stops when I see he's on it. "He'll be claimed", I think, as I run towards him, "but at least I'll get a ToD." I run into the room and... he's completely unclaimed. He's right in the South West corner of the room, near the entrance. As I'm running towards him, the 5 campers, who must have been stood on exactly the wrong side of the room, also spot him and make a dash for him. For the first time ever... I understood why I'd had to sink 4 million on a machine crossbow. I get the pull.
Now for the useful bit of my post... the bit that isn't just gloating. How to solo him as an RNG/NIN 70.
As soon as I get pull, I switch to my Ebow. Machine Xbow is fine for pulling, but I don't like the fact that its damage is so poor on WSes, Barrage and EES. As I've got no idea what level Mysticmaker is, what abilities he has and so on, I treat it like a mini Maat fight. Open with Barrage, then Sidewinder, Eagle Eye Shot, a couple of regular attacks and another Sidewinder. At this point, I notice he's been casting for a long time. That probably means Ancient Magic. And my shadows are down. Whoops. Just about get utsusemi back up in time. By this point, he's below 25% hp. A shadowbind and a couple more regular ranged attacks finish him. I've got 2 links at this point and am on 200hp, with a few DoT effects on me. Fortunately, I managed to zone the links and the DoT dropped off at about 20hp remaining.
Sadly, even though I got the drop, it's no use to my ls-friends, who were the ones who actually needed it, as they weren't in the zone at the time. So I'm typing this while I stand there now waiting for the repop. :(
Edit: also, I'm now seriously, for the first time, considering playing a mage. Amazing what getting a drop like this will do to you.

had to chainspell and convert, but i was left standing in the end! got the drop too. =] Freeze sure can do a number... thru stoneskin, and 700 damage almost got me!

Killed this guy just now with BLM66/WHM33. 1/1. =D also droped some other crap, not too hard battle except for bird aggro. Sleep2. *^^* Funny guy. Must love it. 1/1 <3
