Vana'diel Bestiary: Spiny Spipi  

he spawns every 45 mins to an hour, i should know i killed it 7 times since i started playing ffxi and out of those 7 times i got him to drop 2 capes, although every time he did not drop the cape he would drop 1-2 silk threads. The truth is that there is no exact spawn place, there is an area he spawns in but no exact spot. I used my ranger to hunt him each time, the majority of the time he would spawn somewhere between the ruins and that little pile or rocks down by the river, HOWEVER, 1 out of the 7 times i hunted him he appeared way back in that cove where the river runs back in, the whole way in the back, if i didn't have my rng on i wouldn't have known he was back there, i guess this is why some people think he takes a long time to spawn. anyways, good luck

I was out hunting Crawlers to get stacks of Silk Thread since I need cash, and while running along the path, there it was, between two rocks.

Grabbed it with my Flame Bommerang, and started hacking away. As a level 22 THF, it was stil hitting for 6-10 damage per hit (but missed often). Got me down to 304/361 HP after starting the fight with full health. Dropped Cape first try. ^^~ That's my second NM down, and second rare drop.

I ran into him when i was still a low lvl 10 whm. I would have killed him but 2 yagudo's aggroed me. and he was on the road between the 2 rock formations. no one was around and i was luck. but the yagudo's /em shakes fist

but ill be going after him now ;)

Been trying to kill Spipi for days now. Are there certain times/days when he spawns? I usally camp from 1900-600.

I am on unicorn server, and i have only seen him once, and that was while i was raising my drk, i was only lvl 9 and it killed me, i rushed back but it was gone TT~TT, but dont spend your time on this guy, farm other stuff around that area. you make loads more

Well I'm 2 for 3...just running home from the canyon and thought I'd see if he was there. Ding...mist silk cape No. 2!

i met Spiny at the exact corner where I-J 6-7 meet.

we were fighting a Crawler, waiting for him to spawn and saw him appear right when the clock hit 20:00.

beat him, but no cape drop (2 Silk Threads though). it was risky battle, we were L9 THF/WAR and L9 WHM/RDM, and may have died (or burned 2hour) if the high levels in the region who were searching for Spiny hadnt showed up and healed us. there were 5 or 6 of them that suddenly appeared halfway through the battle :\

been searching for last 2 days and have yet to see him. i really dont want to drop 24-25K(server:Gilgamesh/WindurstAH) for this cape (mostly cause i cant afford that yet)

They arn't hard, I killed one at lvl 11 BLM...... I didn't get the rare drop cloak. What I did was binded it, ran fairly far away, nuked it with Aero to get it's hate, I was still far away so I could get another bind in there before he reached and hit me. Then I ran away again and repeated this until he was on the ground I had about 12mp and 20 some hp. Makes me mad that I didn't get that drop... I could've used the money back then....

It works on chance but not completely random, its not time or anything, the thing is there is a cap for spawn and the more stuff is spawning (the only way to get spawn is to kill spawn)the more chance he has of coming (it may be percentile)so its somewhat random anyway I've given up on hunting NM's Im to slow to prov

Now if you're hunting for Spiny Spipi you have to be very patient.

First of all don't give up just because someone gets him right infront of your eyes. It can be frustrating but don't give up.

Secondly you might wanna farm while looking for it, because you can earn more gil than you might think. Try going for Beehive Chips (stack around 3.500 gil), Crawlers Calculus (200 gil each) and Spools of Silk Tread (stack 10.000 gil).

Thirdly, by my own experience, you should look for Spiny Spipi around the end of river (behind the rocks), because I've met him there 7 of 9 times.

Well, it just spawns whenever and its just random. I tried killing everything and it spawned the same. Also it doesn't always spawn between 23:00-24:00 its just random.

The mist silk cape is such a rare drop that i killed it 10 times and got so far over a dozen silk threads off of this *******....

But someday I will kill the ********, get the cape and taste the satisfaction.... god i hate this nm

i camp this guy every chance i get so far i killed him 2 times and all i get is silk thread. Seen him get owned a couple of times but its hard to determine how to make it pop. i think you just basically pick an area and kill the crawler that spawn there, eventually he will pop along with the regular crawler. this is a very long process but most likely it will be worth it. Good luck. about stealing the cotton balls from mandys, is this true you really can steal it from mandy's at e saruta? im no thief but if its true ill level him and steal them as well, please let me know. I only know of one kind that drops those and they are the ones in TC.
