Look, if you have wide scan, place yourself in I-7, Top Center part of it, just before you reach the river. Look in Wide Scan, Spipi's place holder is in-fact, the 3rd crawler in the set of 3, between the group of bees and a Goblin Thug. You know its the PH, if the 3rd crawler pops behind the other side of the hill from the tower, by the river.(where J-6 and K-6 intersect)
The PH can pop in a few other locations away from the river, for instance, on the other side of the hill, this is normal. Just kill the PH and within an hr Spipi will pop. When you know it's TOD, start killing again about 30-45min after. If you do that, it's Guaranteed to come within 5min-45min, making it a 45min-90min pop. Good Luck!

So I got my drk, and the chaos bringer that comes with it. I made the decision to go ahead and do the 100 kills with my drk as i leveled 5 as required to do the quest blade of death. So i ended up dying and woke up in windy. I said forget this and got my war out. I clothescraft and was in need of silk thread, and I had forgotten about spiny spipi and just remembered the large amount of crawlers in the area. So I was off to kill 100 crawlers. Well while fighting one crawler, Spiny actually found me and linked to the other crawler. I never saw him but was extatic when he dropped the cape after aggroing me.

Hey im about to start camping this thing seems like bad drop rate but if anyone has any tips or pop times/day tell me

Terrible drop rate... I have killed 6 times and only gotten one drop. Camped for around an hour each time sometime a little less. Once you find him once if you got back in and hour to and hour and a half most of the time you kill a few crawlers and he will pop. But like I said I'm currently 1/6 with this guy..not really worth it to me. If anyone knows why the drop rate is so bad for me let me know.

killed it like 15 times. droped 5 times. seen him in many places but alway along the wall from the tower to the end of the river. somtimes like 10sec more down the street. a method that works: kill it and be back in 1:30 kill crawler and he WILL pop from 2:05 to 2:15. if you stay after TOD and kill crawler you can down his respawntime to like 1:10 ... fastest time i ever got was like 50min.
if you know that and TOD you dont have to stay long... like 30min and you got an almost granted pop.
ive seen him like 12-14 times near the road. 1 time at the end of the river and 1 time in the middel of the way done the river. many ppl are keep telling me they saw him most times at the end of the river.
never got the cape below 50% of Moon 3 drops at full moon.
and 13 of 15 pops at night... why ever.
it goes 22k in jeuno 30k in windy but sometimes up to 50...
sry to Ehrii the RNG how camped in my time and never got him ;)
someone on Odin needs a new cape ? /tell Radiokopf
its sells pretty slow

btw.: you should be level 13 better 14 to kill it. i level most of my jobs there until they dont get exp. whats lev 15. its really good mony. Silk thread or Chips are good to farm. but dont fight bees in the critical time. i got many of them cause somone killed bees or looked in widescan too long ;)

Got bored waiting for my friend to help me get the keys for the Kazham ariship pass, camped around here a bit, killing bees, yagudos and crawlers as I went.
About an hour, still no pop... my friend canceled on me and I was making another run down the river when my client lagged out. Solo'd as a 11 WAR/5 MNK, Taru. Rested to full HP then popped an M&P chicken then went to work. Had my 2HR ready which helped a lot. Didn't hit very hard, never hit me for double digit damage. Raging Axe did about 113 DMG.
Ended with about 80 health and Poison Breath took me down a bit more but didn't kill me. No drop, but an easy foe to camp with little competition and mobs nearby to farm off of, so it's a good NM for the low levels.

I spent a little under two hours camping this NM. I was using my lvl 37 MNK and subbing THF. During the time, a few other players would run by, but none stuck around to give me any competition.
After running around the area where Spipi spawns, I noticed that the crawlers do not always spawn where they were killed at. I don't know why this is, but it was interesting to see that they could be killed at one spot and pop somewhere not even close to their ToD.
Anyway, Spipi popped as I was running along the path, northward toward the river. I was surprised to see how much bigger he was then the other cralwers. After two hits and one Backhand Blow, Spipi fell to my gimmy MNK. I got two silk threads and the Mist Silk Cape.
So far for Spiny Spipi, I'm 1/1 on the cape. And during that time, I managed to collect a stack and a half of silk thread, two stacks of chips, and a stack and a half of honey. I may have to camp him again for a cape to sell because I needed the cape for my mages who will be lvl 10 soon. That's the only reason why I camped him.

I hate this guy. In fact I hate Square Enix.
I used to have a mithra warrior on Leviathan. I never, ever, got a single NM drop, out of maybe 100 attempts, most of this with 50 War / 25 Thf. So I quit the game.
Fast forward a couple years, I've pwned WoW, more mature, ready for more of a challenge. So, I'll come back to FFXI. They've fixed a lot of the gilseller problem, plus I never did try the mage line.
I am really enjoying the game, but I am 0/6 on Spipi as a 26RDM/BLM who actually needs the drop to wear, not auction. I keep reading all these posts about "lol found him by accident, 1/1! :D" or "14/20, made at least 300K of this guy".
Am I doing something wrong? I mean, what the f%#&?? Why won't NMs _EVER_ drop nice stuff for me?

i just started im a lvl 9 THF on ifrit names Rapingdagger but want the cape... if anyone on ifrit can help me nm hunt him hes hard to kill and im new any info on him is helpful.. but wondered will a lvl9 thf kill him??

a THF9 will not kill him. ive tried killing him with a THF11 once and didnt get him down to maybe half hp.

whenever im farming chips or threads i check on this guy and sometimes he is there... no one else is camping him so i guess i just decide to take a try at the cape again... currently around 20/25 on this guy :)

I camp Spiny all the time when I'm just out farming. I have really good luck on him. In the past 3 days I'm 4/8 on drops. I usually go out there and just kill crawlers and bees for silk and beehive chips while I wait for Spiny to pop..once he does, it's easy to claim b/c usually no one else is out there camping. Then once I kill, if I get drop I go put it up in the AH so I will be able to get a 2nd drop. Usually take a break and watch tv for an hour and when I get back, Spini pops in 10-15 mins. Now, I just hope my 3 Mist Capes in the AH will sell so I can get some gil....but I'll makey 50-75k easy just on farming while waiting.
Every time I've seen him pop, it's been 4 times way back in the valley, and 5 times right where it opens up past the waterfall.

I haven't had much luck yet with camping the Spipi; been camping for about 4 days now, maybe five hours a day, here and there. Outclaimed once; killed her once with no drop, just silk thread >.< Last night someone got her before I knew she'd popped, and no drop for them either.
But the last couple days have been really frustrating because I haven't even seen her pop since like the second day.
*sigh* Anyway, I'm not giving up, I came all the way out from Bastok just for this, so I ain't leavin' 'til I get what I came for.
Edit: Oh yeah, and both pops I saw were by the rocks near the river, and the time she popped last time (when someone else fought her) was in that little piece of land near the waterfall.

sigh 0/4 this is getting annoying
ive been camping this guy for about 2 days now, im 1/2 so its pretty good but i only get to camp for 2 hours a day so one spawn a day for me >.< anyways i checked jeuno b4 i went to camp em and the cape was going for about 50- 70k but when i checked windy it was at 100k-160k so check windy's AH after you get the cape cuz you could make a good chucnk of change you wouldnt have gotten plus windy is only 3 minutes away. on to camp hoo mjuu to make myself crazy trying to get the signa

Well, I just created an account, so I thought I'd share my story. I'm 1/2 on spipi. The 1st time, I ran into her on accident, so I have no info on that one. I do know I was whm/blm w/ blm sub up to par. The 2nd time (when I got the drop), I was accually camping her. 2 times in a row, I found a crawler that was in the river, and on the 3rd spawn it was spipi. I have no idea what time/day/moon phase it was, didn't even think of writing it down. But I do know that this time I subbed rng lvl 1. I don't know if that helped me get the drop or not. But she spawned @ (J-6) right by the water.

You guys are too silly. He spawn exactly somewhere within the listed area....preferably the road. its not rocket science to pop this guy... i mean, i have been just walking by and tere he was minding his own usiness and grazing. once... it took me up to 45 mins and i gave up cause im not all that patient. but he spawns regularly in no time and i am 2/3. THF subbed. and omg.. please... never mention the lower the lvl the better the drop. THAT SHIZNIT IS NOT TRUE!!! everyone has the same drop rate unless you have T1 or T2. silly noobs.

silly noob, TH1 doesn't affect the drop rate of rare items.
After several attempts at camping this NM for Cape, I gave up thinking it was a lost cause...only to find it last Saturday chillin on at J-7. I jumped off my Bird knowing that a taru was around the corner comming from the stone monument, I Killed it as a RDM 30/RNG 10 (I was camping a few other NM that day), did my dance for joy and then ran back to Windy...God that was a great day!!!!! 4 out of 5 NM I hunted that day dropped items, but the best is this cape woohoo.

I saw him yesterday for the first time! I killed him with a THF13 and no sup job! So for me its 1/1
