PS: You don't have to kill anything to get her. Just wait for her to spawn.
Man, my friend and I just got off on NMs out of no where. Prior to Sophie, I had done Bubbly Bernie. He wasn't too difficult. But right after my friends camped and farmed for an hour on the second level, she spawned right in front of him. He killed her and got the drop. I was in Bastok when he did this, so an hour later, I went out and did the same as he did. Farmed around and killed gobs and such. By the time it had been about 1:10 since her last spawn she appeared right in front of me on the NW side of the hill. She was hard man. I'm a level 15 WHM right now and it took everything. I used up all my MP and my Benediction as well. But, I beat her and got the drop. It was a perfect recreation of my friends fight. I'm going to try her again later tonight. Not counting on the drop necessarily, but I'm hoping.
From my experience, she appears on the Northwest side of the second level. There is about an hour and ten minutes between spawns and she fights like she's an Even Match [then again, I'm a WHM]. Good hunting, folks, kick that NM ***!

ive been on that hill for 4 hours now, killing every bee i see, and not once have i seen sophie, i even check ontop of the hill too

This dagger only goes for about 5k on Caitsith. I bought mine for my THF, and still use it for my BRD.

After spending several hours of bee-slaying and killing sophie 3 times I still had no drop. Since I needed the dagger to raise my thief sub I discovered another way of getting it. Spend 2 hours of killing every mob on the damn 2nd level and you will have about at least 2 stacks of beehive chips, several Goblin items, 3 stacks of batwings, 1 stack of Sheep teeth and a lot of honey (and some other **** as well). Go to Sandoria. Trade the batwings (per 2) with the guy on the bridge in North for 200 gil each time and the honey to Rambosiel in his shop in South for gil. This will increase your Sandy fame and give you gil. Dump the stacks of beehive chips and sheep teeth and the Goblin stuff on the AH. Make sure your price is about 5% lower than the history. Log out for the day and go to sleep.
Next day check your delivery box:
Sheep teeth: 3k
3 stacks of Chips: 3.5k each
Goblin stuff 500-1000 each
Total money with Sandy quests: +/- 20k
The dagger goes for about 8k on my server so I bought it and had room to spare to get enough materials to raise my woo6working from level 11 to 16 and leather craft from 3 to 8
Conclusion: Spending a day farming is easier than killing Sophie and nets you more.
Oh I also got another hit at Jack omw back, but he didn't drop which put my account with him at 2/3. Still not bad.

You have to kill hornets for about an hour non-stop each time a hornet appears, kill it and it will appear. I know, I've done it
Ive looked and looked and all ive ever seen was sombody shout. Stinging sophie at <pos> then sombody else killed it. Im a master beezwax producer in kujata however.

I hunt the Hill in North Gusta regularly. Sophie spawns on the entire length of the 2nd level about once every hour. Everyone says how great the drop rate is, but I am 0 for 9 with Treasure Hunter ability every time. So if you kill her there is a good chance you will get the Beestinger, but don't count on it.

I was farming beehive chips on Zegham Hill, and ran into her immediately once I hit the second tier. No one was hunting her. Had my lvl 30 Warrior, killed her in two hits. Didn't get the dagger. Got two Beehive chips and a pot of honey. I'm 2/3 with her. First time I was Lvl 8 PLD, and she attacked way to fast for me. Hopefully I'll get drop soon. Oh it was 1500 on Earthsday, FullMoon.

I was just running down the hill after doing a quest and decided to kill some monsters on the way down for sellable items (Wild Onions, Beehive Chips) when I noticed that the Maneating Hornet wasn't quite what I thought it was... And, well, my first encounter with Stinging Sophie was a lucky one, since I got the drop.
Can anyone enlighten me the the <pos> of the entry point to get to the second lvl of this hill. I know this sounds newbish but I looked around for a bit and couldn't find the slope to get on the hill.
Ok guys, this may sound kind of newbish, but I can't even find how to get up the hill. :( Can anyone tell me the <pos> of the entry point to get onto the hill, thanks. Lol

I'm not sure what <pos> it is but if you look closely of the map of N. Gustaburg you can sorta make out a ramp on the hill. hope that helps.

Hey all Just beat this NM my first 1 too. It spawned at nite on the second floor, althow I only got a beehive chip I plan on camping it more tonight.
Wish I knew how often this guy spawned. I have fought him 3 times and everytime he has dropped a beehive chip and one time I got a beestinger that sold for 7.5K at the AH.

omg lol, you CAN'T make money off of sophie, in gilgamesh beestinger is worth like, 3k, its hardly worth wasting time to camp for it.
its only worth while if your getting the item for a friend (as a gift or something) or for leveling a sub job (thief mainly).

BEFORE you tell everyone that there is no money to be made camping an NM, maybe you should try to find out how much it costs on other servers. A more adequate response would have been "There is no way to make money off of Sophie ON GILGAMESH."
This Weapon happens to be 10,000+ Gil on the San d'Orian Auction House on the Ramuh server.
You also cannot say that a rare drop is not rare JUST because you got lucky. According to other people's testimonies, and because the great folks at Square-Enix know what they are doing, (RARE) MEANS RARE!

I went ahead and decided to hunt Sophie since I was in Bastok, and I was eventually going to level up thief, and thought it would be a decent weapon. I saw Sophie 3 times. First time I got her, she only dropped a beehive chip. Second time, a LVL 10 was running past me calling for help, and third time I killed it and got the beestinger and got a chip. I got 3 stacks of chips and 2 stacks of honey in the process, so you can't go wrong there.
I've been levelling BST on the hill there, and have seen Sophie twice. Both times I was about ready to head back to town anyway, so I decided to take her on. First time was at BST8, and she slaughtered me. Second try was at BST10; with a 2-houred decent sheep and mithkabob I might have beat her if she hadn't used Pollen to heal 150HP...
Was farming beehive chips here and didn't even notice I pulled the mob until I saw it closer up. I was really excited that I got it and then it dropped the Beestinger and a beehive chip. Some luck I had!
I killed this thing twice this morning, and got the rare drop both times! The first time I was looking for it, and attacked it as soon as I saw it. The second time I thought I was attacking a regular Maneating Hornet, and after hitting it a few times I realized I had found it again.
I was a level 15THF/7WAR and I had no problem at all bringing it down. It attacks pretty fast though, I was glad I had such good evasion.

what lvl were u guys when u did this cause i have a lvl 23 war/8 mnk will i make lot of money with him?

i have kill this NM 12 times.......
The only thing I got every time was Beehive chips
=( bad luck
She is on the second level of the mountain
Spawn time is about 1 hour,and I killed her always at night time (Vanadiel Time)

The spwan time of this NM varies. Me and a freind(30blm,15ttf and 18rgn/9thf) were hunting and farming. We were the only ones on he hill and sophie spawned 5 times. WE got the drop 3 out of 5 time. Of cours we spilt the money which was a shocking 100k for both of us. I being the ranger wiped threw eevrythung, but my blm friend would just firaga and get like 8 bee hive chips. All together we made 200k and spilt it. Later i tried to go there by meself but only made 5k :(
My advince is to be a high level blm, get everything u see on you by dia and then just use a blm spell that attacks all and thats 30 k right there :0
