This **** is on a 2-6(Atleast 6) hour repop.
Spent 6 hours there, only saw one pop.
Sucks how people who spend 6 hours get nothing, but Ricechrispies who are there for less then 20min gets him.

I killed all but 4 Placeholders, the 4 i was watching getting killed.
And the SOB pops on the furthest point to the Northwest. And he runs out of Dia range, when i am casting.

I just killed him as a 44MNK/22THF with the help of three Hi-Potions +3. I used Boiled Cockatrice Meat as food since it has the same attack modifier (+22%) as meat mithkabobs but it also adds "resist petrify" (he never tried to petrify me though so I can't say if this helped or not.)
It went like this: Boiled Cockatrice Meat -> Chi Blast -> Dodge -> Focus -> Hundred Fists. I then used Raging Fists as soon as I got 100tp and used Chakra when I got down to 700hp. After that it was just a matter of popping +3 hi-potions and landing the punches. Luckily my accuracy was high enough (or his evasion was low enough ;) so I only missed two punches the whole fight.
Think I had almost 300/964 hp when the fight was over.
...no drop though ;; (0/1)

Showed up 10 minutes after I did on my first camp attempt. Set my hopes up for nothing, as it didn't drop.

At what lvl can I solo him 'safely'? I'm 52 THF/NIN, capped marksmanship with bloody/acid/blind/sleep bolts. I also have +40-something evasion (full crow set, dodge earrings, emp pin, nomad's mantle, other +1s, etc). I fought tabar beaks in the area while gaining TP for THF AF2 and took no damage, and had a very easy time recasting utsu if it fell. I have been consistently soloing soldier crawlers in CN to lvl my NPC easily, so how much easier/harder would DD be than that?
Answered my own question. DD IS soloable by a 52THF/NIN, it just takes a while. Status bolts are HUGE (DD was hitting once every 4-5 or so swings without blind on, maybe 1 in 10 with). Fight took about 5 minutes or so while hitting for 40 dmg or so per hit, got 23 exp off the fight too ^^. You can also steal a giant bird feather from him.
I don't know about soloing him with any other job at that level tho. THF already has super high evasion and I had quite a bit of evasion+ equip (+49 I think). Just a note: he was hitting for 50-60 dmg per hit when he landed and I had utsu down, and he attacks FAST (obviously...cockatrice type XD).

Just got my dodo skin. I was 1/3 on it.
1st claim - 75 THF/NIN with Thief's Knife, 75 BLM/RNG, 61 RDM/THF (me). No drop, but I killed it with a nuke rather than letting the THF kill it.
2nd claim - 70 MNK/WAR, 61 RDM/THF (me). No drop.
3rd claim - 61 RDM/THF (me). Drop.

Man DoDo was a SOB I was 1/16 on it, but I got it finly and got the vine from a bcnm and the fang was not hard was 1/3 on it.
I found that the repop time was about 3hr (+/- 45mins) I tended to long and come back about 2hr 45mins after I killed it.
But rember too its not allways like that I stayed up one night for 4.5hrs and finly it pop but no drop also sub rng it helps lots.

So I'm reading all these stories, and it sounds like the drop is fairly rare, so I decided to share my story.
I regularly farm in this area, even though it takes awhile I find it very lucritive. So im in the Spawn area, in fact I didnt even know there was an NM here other than Roc. I chuggin along and I see a Tabar Beak.. I run up and start beating away, then I use Guillotine (I'm a lvl 63 DRK) and I notice it doesnt do anything close to what it should be doing. I'm like WTF! SO i check the name... o.O Deadly Dodo! I tell my LS that I basically ran right into it without even knowing :)! So i whopp its ***, brought me down to about 700hp out of 1100. I didnt even use Drain. Got the drop. DIdnt know what it was for but asked a lvl 67Nin later who was camping it and he told me it was for the Brown Belt.!
If your camping it good luck to you, may you get the odds like I did!

I ran out to this spawn area and found Dodo up and unclaimed. Got the drop. 1/0 on all three brown belt mobs. This is highly unusual for me - usually I am the one who can never get a claim or a drop :P
pld67/nin31 - with ninjutsu blind, paralyze, and blink, this bird did zero damage to me, literally. It was pathetically easy to solo.
Note: a thunder elemental was next to this thing the whole time. I even tried to back away from the ele, but everywhere I went, it would drift over to me again. Luckily I was using ninjutsu and I never needed to cure or flash or anything. So if you are going to camp this ugly guy, make sure either you don't rely completely on magic, or that you can take on an ele at the same time, just in case.

im on shiva and i just killed the fricken birdmonster or whatever and the dodo skin didnt drop. im wonderin if ne one knows if its a lottery pop or if it is on a certain time pop. also from what ive heard it takes forever to get the skin so do u think if i ate my lucky egg would it help or should i save it

It's Christmas Eve and I'm rolling into Sauromague with the rulers of SoV (Soldiers of Valor on Sylph). After calling Tabars for like 30 minutes, Dodo pops and I got the drop. He spawned right in the center of K6. Had Thf/War, Rdm/Nin, Mnk/Thf (me), and Rdm/Whm. Killed it NP really quickly with a couple of SCs.
1/1 on this NM. I'm very lucky and know it (especially after reading some of the horror stories about this NM). Only need Nue now....maybe I won't have to rely on Santa for a Brown Belt. Peace-

Killed it about 15 min ago on asura... me RNG50/THF25, and a DRG60/WAR30 claimed it and had no problems killin it^^ popped in far far west of J-6

Yep, that was a good fight Yogi, I had been there an hour before you joined me. A MNK 60+ had been there camping Dodo for god knows how long. He said he had 0/30 when I got there. It popped and he claimed, got drop and left.

i've been camping this thing on and off for a few days now, finally got the skin. now i am 1/4 on it. I feel kinda bad though, i logged out in his spawn area last night and when i logged back on today there was a 60 something mnk wandinging around, so i ask him if he is hunting dodo and he says hes been there for a couple hours camping it and he is 0/5. Then right behind him dodo pops, i grab it and get the skin after about 2 mins of logging on. I feel kinda bad about it, but oh well, that is the luck of the draw. hope that mnk gets his soon even though he was pretty rude to me after i got the drop.

My friend stopped lvlin his monk cuz it was hella xpensive. After being called Gimp for too long, he decided to hell with it. Time to get my BB and stop the ridicule.
I went along as my 55THF/WAR to help, cuz he deserves the belt so much. I claimed Morbolger in a room of 15 campers, had time to walk up to morbolger and voke from across the room ^^ My mnk pal gets vine
Feeling good we head out for Nue. We get there and withing 10 mins, Nue pops. I claim Nue, and the Fang drops ^^. My mnk pal gets fang.
Feeling too good to be true we run out to the Saur..... whutever, to try for Deadly Dodo. We get out there. 5 mins later, Dodo pops. Rdm pal that joined us claims, I kill. No drop =(
We stick around for another hr, Dodo pops. I claim and kill. Skin drops. My mnk pal gets the skin.
So within a matter of 4 hrs from spawn of Morbolger, my mnk pal is now the proud owner of his very own Brown Belt =) With a very good boost to my NM list =)
So now I'm:
1/1 Claim on Morbolger (drop doesnt count think it's 100%)
1/1 Claim/Drop on Nue
1/2 Claim/Drop on Deadly Dodo
Don't mean to rub it in, but I needed to get it out as im Still 0/37 on LL =(

got the skin today 1/7, been camping him on and off for the past few days, ill need the belt when i get my mnk to 40, so i figure ill get a head start on it in my free time

i think its safe to say dodo has 4600-4800 HP, but dodo has some of the worst accuracy ive seen, being a drk i have a ton of EVA- gear on and he still only landed 3-4 hits on me

I recently completed the Purple belt quest and thought I'd start the next. Using THF 53/ RNG 20 I ran around and cleared the area of Tabars.. after a while Deadly popped, Fled to him, had time to SA and started to hit him.. and realized.. I was doing almost no damage to his health bar. I used at least 3 tp moves, Sharpshot and bloody bolts for hp regain, but he had a huge amount of HP for something this level. Didn't have to perfect Dodge, thought about it after some +100 crits in a row but he started missing again. Used maybe 40 Bloody bolts though. hard to remember what I had at the start.
At the end he dropped a slice of meat, no skin, I totaled up the damage I did to him with a calculator and got 4508.. just.. lots.
On a side note, I kept sleep bolting him and SA again once a minute to kill him faster, I'd only suggest this if no one else is around you at all.. who knows who might nab it from you.
Also, if it hasn't been posted..Tabars can be hidden from.. Steal/Hide = giant bird feather for you. Then SA and kill if for the meat ^^ Didn't try hiding from Deadly.

I'v camped him 3x now. Missed claim 1st time to a RDM. 2nd time farming/camping I got the claim but no drop. 3rd time again farming/camping I got him cause I was the only 1 there. I stole a Giant Bird Feather after his death I got another Giant Bird Feather, Cockatrice Meat, and Dodo Skin. I'm was a 64 WAR/THF at the time.

I was on my choco just passing by the area where dodo pops. I had a weird feeling that i might see him there. and sure enuf he was sitting waiting there to die =P i got off, killed it, got item, and ran back to mog house ^^; now to see if my luck holds up for the other two NMs
id like to tell my story about this little bugger, it all starts on Monday, 10/16/05...i decided to go camp him, im there for about 1.5 hours, he spawns...i got him down to about 1/5 HP(51mnk/war) but i die, i would have won if my 2 hour was ready :(...so a PLD from my LS is near, raises me, and kills it, no drop...so im hanging out waiting for it to respawn and a rdm comes, and we join forces, 3 hours later while im AFK it spawns and he kills it, he says i can lot, but i decide to be honorable and pass since i didnt help kill it, maybe i should have lotted. 5 hours, and 2 more spawns later, still no drop. i have to log for bed, i come back the next day after work to begin anew, not a single spawn from 7pm to 10pm when i went to bed, wednesday, same thing, log on right after work, im alone for maybe an hour, then by some dumb luck, a ninja comes right when its going to spawn, kills it, no drop, he gets the next spawn as well and gets the drop :(...i log after another saddening night.
if you are like me, and extremely unlucky when it comes to drops and spawns, this can be a pain in the behind...im doing the BCNM for the nue fang.
