This is THE worst quest I have ever done, including Genkai 1 looking for papyrus in Eldieme Necropolis. I thought getting the key was tough, as it took me three hours to assemble a party, get to the closed room on the fourth floor, and fight Yagudos till all six of us got keys.
Well, that was the easy part. For two days and a total of 12 hours, after three deaths and a de-level back to 55, I searched, paid for help from a gil-selling THF in Oztroja, got cheated out of coffers from said THF, and eventually searched again on my own only to finally give up and sit in the closed room and camp the spawn spot for two more hours.
To add insult to injury, I wasn't clear on the EXACT spot the coffer spawned (I thought it spawned on the carpet in front of the bronze statue, not behind it) so i stood with my back to the spot only to hear the coffer being opened by the cheating, gil-selling THF. At this point after so much anger and frustration, I stood right at the spawn spot and swore I would never leave Castle Oztroja until I got the damn coffer. About 20 to 30 minutes later the coffer spawned and I beat out two other campers and finally got my Choral Canions.
I realized after all this that the best way to get this coffer is to wait it out in that room and do not leave for any reason. If it spawns and someone else gets it before you, just wait longer. Save yourself a ton of trouble because with thieves running around this place constantly, getting coffers everywhere else, your best chance is to be in that room when it spawns. I hope my misfortunes can help someone avoid them and get this thing with minimal troubles and deaths.

I don't mean to sound cruel but this made me laugh to no end. Especially the part about hearing the coffer open behind you 'by the cheating, gil-selling THF." If you weren't already at the highest rating I'd rate you up even more. Bravo on an superb story.

Kyrial is absolutely right. When I went for my coffer for the Choral Cannions it was around Thanksgiving of 2004, and since then there have been improvements to this quest making it much easier to obtain these. Funny, they released the patch taking Astral Rings out of those chests literally DAYS after the hell I went through getting them. Thanks a ton, SE! =/
Whew.... too bad you had to do that before the big patch that moved Astral Rings outta here. Now it's easy as hell to find coffers; no THFs in sight. I went in and found my THF AF pants in here and it took like 5 minutes. And today I was helping people get keys, and we got all three of them coffers (a BRD who already had a key and just needed the coffer, which we found immediately upon reaching our camp, and two RDMs that we got keys for).
So.... any BRDs or other jobs who need to get this coffer still... don't worry too much. The key is now the hardest part. And if you're a THF needing AF here... easy to find and pick a coffer here now. :)

Do you just open the coffer and get the gloves? What if you PT with a THF? Do you still just get the gloves or what?
You need to be the one to open te coffer, and your main job has to be bard when you open it, as well as the previously stated conditions.

The coffer for Oztroja is dropped by Yagudo Prelate, Yagudo Conducter, Yagudo Flagellant, Yagudo Assassin. The coffer location is near the pool where the Yagudo Parisites are. This coffer can be opened any time after AF2 quest has been completed.
you do not need to complete the AF2 quests to get any of the coffer AF pieces, you simply need to start the AF2 quest and start the Lost Arms of Borghetz quest (which is more or less the same quest for the glove pieces of all AFs).
you can not start the Lost Arms quest if you do not start the AF2 quest. but you do not have to finish either one of them.
