Yes, indeed they can be smithed. But you'll need at last level 48 in smithing to do so. And the rrrequired ingredients arrre not a small amount.
Purchased for 4700 in Norg. It is also sold in Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno (Tenshodo), but I believe the price was 15,700.
I just bought this Great Katana in norg for around 1.7k, thats the chapest I have ever seen it.

Wow highest price on your server is 8k for this sword, it's like 10k in sandy on mine, i think im just gonna buy mine from that shop in jeuno.
I made a good deal of money trading Nodachi from Norg to the Bastok AH. I was able to buy these swords for about 4700 and sell them at the Bastok AH for 8000. In Jeuno these went for 5500-6000, and in San and Windy they were very close to the Norg price, around 5000, sometimes lower as foreigners try to ditch their low level weapons for fast cash. I'm unsure why Bastok seems to pay a premium for low level weapons.
These will not sell turbo fast, but raking in 3k or 6k for just relisting Nodachi seems like a decent time investment.

Bastok has the Alchemist's guild, this weapon for making Homura, other weapons (shinobi-gatana, etc.) and ingredients seem to go for top dollar there.

get it from jeuno at the store to the left of the auction house (you need a pass, which you can buy from the auction house)
