Clothcraft (--)
# Jan 17 2006 at 8:56 PM Rating: Decent
What exactly does (--) mean when next to the type of craft? Also, what is HQ/HQ yield?

This happened to me as well. Clothcraft lvl6 and I HQed it for 6 spools. I was facing the correct direction, however I do not recall the moon phase, time of day, or element of day. Was equipped with a Dark Staff, but this probably has no relevance to the matter.

HQ rate on desynths are pretty much random. the higher your level the better chance of a synth/breaking but you can get a hq on a desynth at pretty much any skill level.
Cap is higher then 8

Crafting

Is there an easier way to make Cotton Thread? Besides using Goblin Armor? Like how you can get Grass thread by using a wind Crystal and a Yagudo Necklace.
These are desynthable from Wolf Gorgets

Lightning Crystal + Wolf Gorget
NQ = Cotton Thread
HQ1 = Cotton Thread
HQ2 = Wolf Hide

So if you craft Wolf Gorgets for skilling up leathercraft, it's a good idea to try and desynth them

The problem you are having is that desynth is very flaky about skill ups. Typically to get any you have to hit the right day and moon phase. If you hit it, you will get great skill ups, if you are off, you will get little to no skill ups. Also the lvl gap matters (and I would always recommend advanced synth support)... However, the Goby armor synth can be done right from the start based on what I have read here...

Skill Cap
# Jan 12 2005 at 5:18 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't seen it mentioned but I received skill-ups to level 9. I'm not sure if this is due to the term "cap" meaning up and through that level or just up to. I always interpreted it as up to that level. Please correct me if I am wrong. But anyhow I was level 8 and still received skill-ups but have not gotten any after hitting level 9.

Go figure,
Tried desynthing the Moblin Armor one
and got these results

3 fails first, then a HQ1 yielding 4 threads.

First time I ever tried it and I'm lvl 5.1 clothcraft. lol

Why don't you go check!
It varies from server to server Obviously,
So check it yourself.

On Diabolos it's currently 7k/stack

Synthing
# Jun 15 2004 at 10:54 AM Rating: Excellent
Hope this will help you fellow synth junkies out there. Just some things you might now know about synthing.
First always try and synth the day of the crystal you are using. For example: Fire crystal synth on Firesday. This will give you a better chance of success and if you fail better chance of no lose of materials.
Second always if possible get advanced synth support, it is well worth the gil. For the ones that don't know you can get support from your guild. There are 3 NPC's that will give support but only 1 with advanced support.
So advanced support + day of crystal = better chance of success
Third never synth on opposite days of crystal. This will result in more failures when trying to synth. For example fire/water dark/light wind/earth ice/lightning. so if you use fire crystal then don't synth on watersday.
The reason you get different numbers when you synth is because it is a + synth. Different things contribute to this result. The ones I know of are 1.Number of times in a row you synth same product 2.day you synth product
3.moon phase you synth product
4.lvl or product compared to your lvl of craft
there are probably more but can't think of them right now.
I hope this helps out alittle for you fellow synthing junkies because it is addictive. ^^

I know this post was put up a while ago but I thought I'd add some info.

First, if you're far from the cap yes you should idealy synth on the same day as your crystal or on lightsday. As well I find the full moon helps a bit. There is a theory that the direction your facing helps but I wouldn't worry about that one. ie: same day as your crystal/lightsday + close to full moon = better chance of success

But! If you're close to the cap and looking for better skill gains the opposite it true. The day opposte your crystal (ie windsday for earth crystal) or darksday + new moon = better skill ups. Yes you will fail a bit more but if you're close to cap you'll rarely fail anyway. Either way the skill-ups are usually worth the occasional failure. As well this is usefull if you're well above the cap and hoping for HQ's.

There is a balance each crafter has to figure out on their own. Have fun!

Minor correction, Earth/Wind and Ice/Lightning are opposites

Ice/Wind and Earth/Lightning are :) It's the elemental shift.

Light <-> Dark
Fire > Ice > Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water > Fire...

:)
RE: Synthing
# Dec 08 2004 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
Actually, the opposites are as follows:
Light/Darkness
Fire/Ice
Wind/Earth
Lightning/Water

This makes perfect sense, as the opposites in FFX were Fire/Ice and Lightning/Water
RE: Synthing

Actually I've found that synthing on the opposite day produces the best results. For example, try using fire crystals on waters day. I imagine if you're using fire on firesday you'll be pleasantly surprised by the results of watersday. ;)

Yeah, I find I get more skillups on the opposite days when I'm closer to the cap. So I start on lightsday or the same day then finish up on darksday or the opposite day.

And I honestly now belive that moon phase plays a role in skillups or something. Cause I just leveled clothcraft and cooking in the past two days. And got way more and faster skillups doing the cooking than clothcrafting ><

better chance of HQ on opposite day.

that produce the results of another guild.

Sheep Wool is one. You use the leathercraft skill to make sheep leather, which is then used in clothcraft. I personally would think of this more as clothcrafting, but heh it is a way to increase your leatherworking at low levels.

I tried Gob Mail + Lightning crystal last night and it said my skill was too low (which it isn't). So I tried Gob armor instead and I got 2x Cotton thread (and then several times later 4x, 6x, and 8x). Also, on one of my failures my clothcraft skill went up a bit, so it's definitely not leathercraft.

Getting multiple spools relies on both skill and luck. The skill part comes in by checking how high your level is compared to what you actually need to make the item; once you're a good amount higher you can get multiple synths or high quality synths.
leathercraft?
# Jan 28 2004 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
I do find it odd that its leathercraft as well.. ill try this anyways and see what happens
goblin armor??
# Jan 28 2004 at 1:29 AM Rating: Default
I think its supposed to be goblin armor. Like wind + goblin mask you get a low yield sheep leather its probably the same concept. The leathercraft seems odd though.
Leathercraft?...
# Jan 24 2004 at 1:47 PM Rating: Default
I've not seen any synth combinations in game that produce the results of another guild...

So, people that can do this... is it really leather craft? Or is it actually Clothcraft/needlework?
also sold

Also sold at the guild outpost in Selbina
Super Synth
# Jan 04 2004 at 3:52 PM Rating: Default
Sometimes you'll get a supercharged synth, it'll have a different graphic to show.. Like normally you get 3 grass threads from a Yagudo necklace - I got 6 one time. That might explain why you saw he got the six.
Other Formula
# Nov 26 2003 at 2:30 PM Rating: Good
I just discovered that Thunder Crystal + Goblin Armor will give you cotton thread.

I get anywhere from 2 spools up to 8 spools of thread each time I do this formula.

My skill is at 8, and I fail a LOT, so it's probably a good idea to raise your skill with lower crafting recipes first (Hachimaki is a great one for skill 8+ very cheap to make)

Cotton Thread
# Nov 23 2003 at 11:20 PM Rating: Decent
Is there a way to get multiple spools of cotton thread from a beastman item? (like how you can get 3 Grass Spools from a Yagudo Necklace)
