I lost this rig multiple times in Port Windurst for no apparent reason. I got zero rusty items or whatever, I waited to reel the fish in when it had zero hp left, and I was making better money and having more success with lugworms. Even at lvl 7 fishing I lost one. I know it was a bit early, but these things I was catching were easier than pie. I used a Yew rod if that had anything to do with it. Gonna read that link everyone's passing around tomorrow, I have to go to bed... >_>

Edit: I just got another one and I haven't lost it over 5 or so stacks of fish.

you dont need to sign up at the fishing guild to get skill ups.
you can get to level 10 before you get capped and need to sign up to continue your fishing journey.

3 stacks is not much... patience is the key to fishing

Yes, I confirm that I caught Icefish with this rig in the Glacier ( only got monsters with the pond by the tower but got icefish by the eastern pond).
In Bibiki Bay my friend level 15 fishing used this rig to catch Quus but his mithran rod broke, i think he grabbed a coral fragment =)
Also used this rig to get sardines when I was level 0-10 fishing.

This is also able to catch Icefish (freswater) and Sandfish (also freshwater). I haven't gone after icefish yet, but I've caught up to 3 sandfish at a time with this in Rabao.

Yellow Globes cannot be caught in fresh water, if you know of a place where they can tell me and I'll go try it out.

yes moon phase does affect / effect (dunno which one) fishing, best fishing is below <10% and >90% ^_^ keep this in mind, altho at a certain lvl of fishing it doesn't really matter when you going for low fish, cuz well you just keep catching em anyway :P

expensive?
# Jan 27 2004 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
heh, cymmina this is cheap to make. its worth it to ride to windy and buy 12 cotton threads off the AH for ~4k a stack(if you can buy 2 stacks and enough ingots to make 8 rigs). buy a stack or two of copper ingots from the guild or something before you leave bastok and thats it. you got 4 rigs selling at ~2.5k+ a piece. wish I had my goldsmithing higher, id make these >.<

I will say, for beeing a lvl 21goldsmith these are quite cheap to make. my lvl 24cloth is costing me 6k+ per synth though I do make a little profit its a lot of capital to start ^.^

I've crafted this item as a 20 goldsmith and 0 clothcraft. Furthermore I've fished using sabiki rig and Carbon rod in Port Bastok numerous times. It works great.... except that I've had my rod broken and lost the sabiki rig twice... I assume the 2 Carbon Rods broke on rusty gear, I wish the game would tell you what breaks your rod, but oh well... I think I'll wait until I can afford a mithran rod to give it another shot.

I am a recruit in both clothcraft and goldsmithing (both 11 skill). The advanced synth support NPC at the goldsmith guild told me I should try making these at my skill level and gave me the recipe. Haven't tried yet, though (cotton thread isn't cheap in Bastok).

Plus, the fastwater rod is cheaper =)

Rusty Items have been known to break Mithran rod. They're more durable than other rusty-breakable rods but yeah, they can break alright.

Breakable rods won't break on the first rusty item ... but they WILL break ... eventually. Basically you cross your fingers and hope ;;

rusty items wont break bamboo rods every time--give it a shot.
I fished from the pier in Port Windurst (by the fisherman's guild) for a couple of days, made fish skill 7, and never broke my bamboo rod (just stick with lugworms and you'll be fine) .
RE: sabiki rig

You can break a rod while using Sabiki Rig. I loaned my friend my rig, was standing right next to him as his rod snapped. Was in Selbina. I've never lost a rig (except that one :/ ) but you can lose it if your skill is too low for your equipment. His skill was low and his pole was too much for him. Sure you're not gonna lose it in a level 0 fishing area like Port Windurst.

A high lvl japaneese player told me to use Sabiki Rig in Mhuara with the Fiber Carbon Pole. That combo will never break at the docks there he said. You catch Bastore Sardines, Yellow Globes, Silver Rings & Rusty Items. Yellow Globes(12) sell for about 3-4k on Lakshmi server. Im up to lvl 9 just by fishing there. I still have the same pole it hasn't broke yet.
