Summary

Koru-Moru wants you to find him a rough black stone, for some spaced-out reason.

Description

Kill rarabs in the Sarutabaruta plains until you receive a Torn Epistle.

Koru-Moru will smell the scent of his love in the letter you are carrying and asks for a rough black stone. Kill crawlers until one drops a Meteorite and then bring it back to Koru-Moru and he will give you a reward.

k; I turned the letter to the mail handler -dumb mistake- so I guess that might've silently let it go. However I was working up on the ****** quests and then when they (******'s) were sayin the catburgler was prowling around again,
they were curious about what was inside and couldn't get in, but wondered if koru-moru's ring could do it.

I got the meteorite along time ago when I first started the game. Was not sure what to do with it, since I had not gotten the quest yet. And not knowing what to do with it at the time, I threw it away. Can I get it again? I have the quest, but can not get the crawlers to drop the meteorite.

It does drop again. I finished the quest last January when I finally got the drop, and then I got another one about 4 weeks ago. So, yes, it will drop again...
When and where to kill crawlers
# Sep 14 2004 at 6:55 AM Rating: Decent
I wasted a lot of time on this quest. By that I mean, literally, about ten hours killing crawlers in East Sarutabaruta, because an LS member told me to hunt there, and killing them during any time of the day. Finally, another LS member told me to kill crawlers on Starfall Hill at night, and I got the stone in the next game night. The hill is large and it seems a crawler can be on any area on the slope.

Also, if you have this quest, you won't be able to get another from Koro-Moru until you complete it, so beware.

Is it just me, or when you finally get that Meteorite,....you can't run because it's so heavy...? I remember getting it and not being able to run at all (had to walk,..so slow) until I got to Windurst Waters. Is this common with anyone else?? Seems like it would make sense to me....someone carrying a frickin' meteorite would obviously not be able to run............unless they were Super-Saiyan... ;)
RE: Hmmm......
# Mar 27 2005 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
You know, it would be much harder if you were carrying a meteor rather than a meteorite... Yes there's a difference. You probably did have walk mode on (/ key on num pad for PC). Simply having an item in your inventory barely ever affects your gameplay.

Surly you don't mean the difference between a "meteor" and a "meteorite" is the size...
Differences:

Meteoroid: A chunk of rock with high Iron content floating out in space.
Meteor: A chunk of rock with high Iron content falling towards a larger body (like a planet).
Meteorite: A chunk of rock with high Iron content that has hit a larger body (like a planet).

So... you can't pick up a Meteor because a Meteor would be falling towards the planet. And, while, Yes, Meteors tend to be bigger than meteorites... atleast at some point... Meteors burn up a bit in the atmosphere, and only the larger ones that can survive the thousands of miles of friction become meteorites.

I turned it into the man in the mailroom a long while back. Just got quest. Anyway, I haven't had the epistle in my inventory for weeks. It's pretty obvious you have to have held it at some point however.

I got this with level 3 fame. At first, he wouldn't give me the quest. Then I got the Torn Epistle, and he gave it to me.

With the Torn Epistle, he asks why do you smell like his sweetie-pie pen-pal Mojiji (remember the dropped-letter quest? the item description says it's a love-letter to a man) then gives you the quest.
Meteorite

I got mine off of a crawler at 15:10 game time. He was east of the tree on top of the hill.

I've been trying to get this quest for a while. To counter a point made in an earlier post, I *have* had the Torn Espitle previously - it does not make a difference. Nor does talking to him over and over. Ya need the torn espitle.

You must have it in your inventory when you speak with Koru-Moru. The torn espitle is found exclusively in West Satatabura on Savanna Rahabs. I killed Hundreds of bunnies in East Satabura and colleceted about a dozen Muddy Bar Tabs. Found the Torn Espitle on the fourth bunny I killed in West Sat.

Posts on the meteorite location and conditions are correct (I got mine about a month ago). Early hours around midnight, on the star hill. The reward is worth ~1,000 gil and it opens up nicer quests later on.

Good luck.
stupid ass meteorite
# Jun 27 2004 at 3:41 AM Rating: Decent
after an entire game day of killing nothing but stupid crawlers... finally at 6:54 i got a meteorite. right as i was about to give up ... so .... i guess it is not time related . but if i were to "HAVE" to say so it can only be obtained between 6:50 and 6:59 (but of coarse that is just a joke .. i hope) (for the rest of u lost souls) i have however done the epistle quest and had turned in 2 to the guy that gives u the epistle quest at the AH...
Need quest? Negative.
# Jun 14 2004 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
I got the letter first.... I should note that I never got the quest, I just happened upon both items while farming. I couldn't tell you what time of day or what area except that it was West Sarutabara that I got them both. You definately don't need the quest to get either, I didn't have any idea what they were for when I found them. ^^

You don't need to have the torn epistle in your inventory at the time you trigger the quest. You only need to have had it in your inventory at some time during your adventuring career. You can have turned it in at the auction house already and still have this quest trigger.

Alot of this was probally already said, but I figured I'd give details on how I got it since there seems to be alot of conflicting information in the posts.
I went to WS and killed crawlers through the areas, all times of the day, trying to get the meotorite. I followed the advice of a friend of mine who said the cycle and the hill area were just rumors. I did this for about two hours. Getting sick of it, I decided to play it safe. I went and got the quest, went to the hill, and waited until 18:00. Started killing crawlers, and by 21:00 I had it. Now this could be a fluke, maybe not. Seems likely that having the quest or the time really did make a difference.
Koru Moru
# May 31 2004 at 12:21 AM Rating: Decent
As a little extra note of interest... Further tying the Torn Epistle together with getting this quest... If you turn in the Epistle to Koru Moru himself, he will say:

"Hey! Why do you have my love letter to my pen-pal sweeterony sweetie-pie Mojiji?

I want it back-a-reeno! Here, I'll give you this for it, so hand it doodily-over."

You recieve 50 gil for it. Quite interesting really ;)

Just did this quest today...

1) The Torn Epistle droped for me in only a few kills in WEST Sar. Went from lvl 8 to 9 killing easy Rarabs in East and got nothing.

2) The Meteorite's drop from Crawlers in WEST Sar. at any time of the day, though it seemed like I was sticking to easy's and when I went to the first 2 Decent's (at lvl 9) is when I got my meteorite, don't remember the time, but it was NOT from 0:00-3:00 I made sure of that.

This is my humble theory about the problem with people trying to find the meteorite.

After getting the quest there are two NPCs I highly recommend you speak to for information.

This first is Bonchacha right outside Koru-Moru's Manor. She tells you that the black rough stone is the remains of a fallen star.

Next if you talk to Dabaide-Obaide by the AH she/he tells you that she/he saw a falling star in west sab.

Both of these NPCs changed what they said to me the second I finished this quest so unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what they said.

From this information I believe that you must kill crawler's in West Sab. AND...like the "To Catch a Falling Star" it must be at night maybe even between 0:00-3:00 game time. This seems logical since both are about falling stars.

I killed many, many crawlers for other quests(evil pickle ladySmiley: bah)and with this quest active and never once saw a meteorite. But once I came up with my theory I started fighting crawlers in west sab. at 0:00 and had my meteorite by 1:40 game time.

Bonchacha doesn't say anything useful, but Luuh Koplehn tells you: "A rough black stone? Yeah, the professorrr who lives in this manorrr once tried to give me one of those in lieu of his debts. Grrrowl! Just remembering it rubs my furrr the wrong way! The old fool claims those strange sontes are really starrrs that fell from the sky or some such nonsense."

Dabaide-Obaide says: "Gee... The other night when I looked up at the starry-warry sky, a trail of lighty-wighty went "wooshy-wooshy," streaming down to the ground. I think it would have hit the earthy-wearthy out there in West Sarutabaruta somewhere."

As for the epistle, I agree that you need to hand one in - I didn't get the quest until after I handed it in. Although it could potentially also be a fame issue - I dunno. I wasn't specifically trying to get this quest.

For reference, Bonchacha says: "Oh, dearie-dear? Has that spot-dotty Professor Koru-Moru got you running errands for him now? Typical of old Principal Koru-Moru... totally dependent on the grace of others. Most precarious!"

I hadn't put a lot of time in this quest, but I read Coriandria's advice and I got the Meteorite on my 3rd Crawler at the times he said, near the Twinkle Tree.

I got this quest after doing about 20+ Windurst quests. Then, I have been fighting Crawlers for like 15 hours. I leveled to 9 two support jobs, WAR & BLM! This after getting the quest... then, today, when the in-game clock was at 8:32 a.m. I fought a Tough Crawler in J-6 as BLM at level 8. Basically, I just use Bind on them, and smash them with a combination of Water + Poison, until they die. I got more than 100 xp, plus a Meteorite. Then, I trade it for the Compound Eye Circlet. And, go back to fight some Crawlers and Giant Bees to level up to 9. Thing is, in less than 30 minutes I got the Meteorite again. To note:
1)Meteorites appear at any time of day near Hill.
2)You can't get them before activating the quest. I have killed thousands of those Crawlers.
3)What do you do with extra Meteorites?

Yup. I definately got my meteorite before activating this quest. I got it from the very first Crawler I ever killed back in the day and I hadn't even activated a single quest yet at that time.

you CAN get the meteroite before activating the quest. I was passing through sarutabaruta for my first trip ever to windhurst, killed a few crawlers and got a meteorite. I had it for a quite a while before i ever got the quest.
Cannot activate quest. :/
# Mar 06 2004 at 7:39 AM Rating: Excellent
I could not get him to activate the quest, and I have already completed the torn epistle quest. I have completed 44 unique quests in windurst, with a few additional repeats.

Directly after this, I went outside, killed a Rarab, got a torn epistle, went directly to Koru-Moru, and talked to him, VOILA! he gave me the quest.

Then I went outside, and first kill of a crawler I got a meteorite.

after completing the quest, I gave the epistle to ambrosius for a repeatable.

Ok, I got lousy fame, but finally managed to get the quest by asking 3 times in a row. He gave me the usual BS the first two times, but then gave me the quest on the third. I had the epistle in my position, don't know if that makes a difference.
RE: Interesting!
# Feb 07 2004 at 9:06 AM Rating: Decent
Ok all!
Before u check the mail and get lousy fame...

I got the meteorite without opening any mail, didnt have and dont have any fame...

I'm going to do alot of fame quests now, and this is one of many quests, so before stickin your nose into letters, try kill MANY crawler's
