Summary

Koru-Moru wants you to find him a rough black stone, for some spaced-out reason.

Description

Kill rarabs in the Sarutabaruta plains until you receive a Torn Epistle.

Koru-Moru will smell the scent of his love in the letter you are carrying and asks for a rough black stone. Kill crawlers until one drops a Meteorite and then bring it back to Koru-Moru and he will give you a reward.

Maybe...?

Not sure how this affects anything, but has anyone tried getting this item while they already had a compound eye circlet? I mean, it seems a bit crazy but most of the tips here work well: between 8th-10th level, crawlers at starfall hillock, at night...but I repeated this quest with a mule, just to get a second circlet and couldn't do it. I was a mithra thf and had no problems, a galka monk, a taru blm and got it every time...but the second I made a elvaan monk with the circlet equipped at 9 and tried it, I was lvl 13 before I finally got it (and then only after I unequipped the circlet), while my other characters were all below 10th and had no problems finding it within their first 10 crawlers around the hill. Any insights?

The Meteor That Fell to Earth and Came Down a Meteorite
Trivia, altho arguably no more so than anything on this whole site:
Confirmed: a solid body is a Meteor while falling to earth, and a Meteorite once it has 'landed' (cue space music woo-o-oo). The suffix -ite, commonly used as a diminutive, in this case classifies it as a mineral, as in Pyrite, Malachite, or Anthracite. Geologists get out of the house more often than astronomers, I guess, so they got to the extraterrestrial rocks first and got to name them.

If you have trouble flagging the quest

I was a rank 10 windurst and a rank 10 sandorian at the time.
I tried to flag it as rank 2 bastokan.
I could NOT flag it, so I attained the torn epistle in my inventory and talked to him again.
I could NOT flag it.
I then turned in the torn epistle to a different quest, the "Postman never ko's twice" quest guy, and came back to Koru-Moru.
I could NOT flag it.

I talked to him again.
I could NOT flag it.
I talked to him again,
couldn't flag,
and finally on the 3rd try, I was successful.
He said, "Hm? Wait a cotton-pickin' seconderoony. Why do you smell like my sweetie-pie pen-pal Mojiji? Are you into wearing the same perfectareeno perfume as her?"

Thus, my conclusion is you probably need the Torn Epistle in your inventory at some point to get the "smell" on you, and then you have to talk to him 3 times before he'll give it to you.

I'm pretty sure these are the same guys who said they have a Red Chocobo before they even existed... why do some ppl like to cause so much grief. I have lvl 9 fame and never got this quest without the torn epistle. The guys prolly didnt check their inv first and prolly got the drop just never bothered to check...

You dooooo need the torn epistle...

Calling me a liar?

That's fine, cumwad. But I never had the torn epistle, I never farmed for it, never wanted it. I came about the Meteorite by accident, which is the only reason I bothered with the quest. I didn't need the epistle.

And I never had a red chocobo. (Wtf does that have to do with anything anyway?)

Something that no one has mentioned is that the Torn Epistle is aslo use in another quest. The Postman Always K.O.'s Twice. After giving the meterorite to Koro-Moru keep the Torn Epistle. If you collect a Muddy Bar Tab, a Damp Envelope, and a Old Post Card you can trade them to Ambrosius over at the Auction House in Windhurst Walls to complete this quest. You get 500 gil for all four items, 250 for 3 items 150 for 2 items and 50 gil for just one. This quest is repeatable. The Bar Tab and Epistle drop off the savannah rarabs in Sarabaruta and the other two items from canyon rarabs in Tahrongi Canyon.
Repeatable???

The quest Star Struck is not repeatable. Any quest where and item is given will not be repeatable. In this case you receive a Coumpound Eye Circlet. Quest where gil is recieved are sometimes repeateable.

Hello everyone,

I got the Quest w/o needing a Torn Epistle.
And i got the Meteorite something between
12:00-14:00 in game time so the rumor about "you get it only at night" is nonsense. I Had THF sub on me and killed about 15 Crawlers untill it droped.

doing it now

My understanding is you can't already own a compound eye circlet. I may be wrong, but that is what I've heard.

Time and Day
# Jul 07 2005 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
The Torn Epistle dropped almost immediately and the Meteorite took some time [2.5 hours more]. I went to see Koru-Moru's where I traded the Torn Epistle to him in haste without talking to him first; this was his response to the trade:
Koru-Moru: Hey! Why do you have my love letter to my pen-pal sweet-eroony sweetie-pie Mojiji?
Koru-Moru: I want it back-a-reeno! Here, I'll give you this for it, so hand it doodily-over.
Obtained 50 gil.

Checking my inventory reveals he took the Epistle. I tried talking to him after that, but he just says:
Koru-Moru: Ergh... Why, diddly-doodley, do you bother me? I was just riding on the back of a fire dragon as she flew off into the starry night, too...

So, I ran back to W. Sarutabaruta, killed a few more Rarabs, got the Torn Epistle again, and ran back to Koru-Moru. This time, I talked to him first and he gave me the quest. I traded him the Meteorite, got the Compound Eye Circlet, then traded him the Torn Epistle and got 50 more gil. My guess is you can continue to trade the Torn Epistle to him as many times as you want.

Time/Place I've obtained the Meteorite:
- Lightningday, 3:00, ???, center of H-6
- Earthday, 20:30, Waning Crescent (26%), center of I-7
- Darksday, 13:00, Waning Gibbous (79%), SW corner of H-6
- Firesday, 2:00, Waning Gibbous (76%), E side of J-7
- Windsday, 11:30, Waning Gibbous (69%), NE corner of J-6
- Iceday, 13:00, First Quarter Moon (48%), W side of J-7

So, day and time seems largely insignificant, but it would appear that only the crawlers on or immediately next to Starfall Hillock drop the Meteorite.

I spent better part of 2 hours looking for the Thorn Epistle in East Sarutabaruta, with no luck. I read on here to that people could find it in Tahrongi Canyon, I went there and killed a dozen of so and still no drop.
I finally went to West Sarutabaruta where I obtained the meteorite almost 8 hours earlier. The second kill I got the Thorn Epistle.
Lesson learned here, read ALL posts, not just the quest info at the top.
Hope you will have better luck then I did.

i have been annoyed with not getting this quest for a month or so. right now i'm rank3 fame 5 or 6.

here goes:

i read this, went to westsaruta, killed 3 rarabs and got the epistle (for the first time). went straight to the hill, killed 3 crawlers and got the meteorite (for the second time, i tossed it once in frustration over not getting the quest). that was at 15:00-16:00... went in to koru-moru(the rat). got the quest, turned in the stone, completed the quest.

i did this with job 39SAM/19MNK.

if someone needs vocal correction therapy, it's koru-moru, he's foked.

i didnt have the mission i was just lvling a whm 8 and i got this randomly (with a spool of silk thread...score) in the middle of the day on the hill of course so you can get it during the day as well (it was 14:14 :) ).
Letter doesn't need to be with you.

FYI, I just completed this mission. I want to add that you don't have to have the torn epistle on your character to get this quest. You can still get the quest after you have turned the torn epistle into the guy at the AH for that quest, which I did literally months ago.

It is true. I was killing crawlers for about 3 hours in the southern part of W. Sara. Finally read all the posts here and headed to Starhill. Sure enough, the first crawler I killed around 19:00 game time dropped the meteorite.
