Battle Notes

To begin, trade 20 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Cloudy Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 20, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find a large Sniper Pugil flanked on either side by a smaller Archer Pugil. The Archer Pugils have less hp and are generally weaker defensively and offensively than the Sniper Pugil.

  • Neither the Sniper Pugil nor the Archer Pugils perform any tp attacks, as their attack repetoire consists of ranged water based attacks with a powerful knockback effect.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated in the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

The most common strategies for winning this BCNM involves one or more Summoners, the Ramuh avatar, and the Astral Flow two-hour ability.

Solo Method

The first method involves one summoner soloing the BCNM (Preferably on Lightningday and not on Watersday), and is decidedly more difficult than a two summoner method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up, use a Yagudo drink and then summon Ramuh.

  • Because Ramuh is a Thunder based avatar, he is strongly resistant to the Water based attacks of the pugils, and his Judgment Bolt bloodpact is especially powerful against them.

After summoning Ramuh, activate Astral Flow and have Ramuh assault the Sniper Pugil. As soon as Ramuh strikes the pugil, have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt and then use an Ether to restore your mp. Then retreat Ramuh and run towards the exit until just prior to the recast time of your Bloodpact Rage resets, in which case have Ramuh re-assault the Sniper Pugil and have him use Judgment Bolt again. If all goes well, the two Archer Pugils will be killed by the second attack and the Sniper Pugil will have very little hp left. At this time, retreat Ramuh again and kite the pugil back up the hill until the recast timer is up, then have Ramuh assault again and use one last Judgment Bolt (or Thunderspark) to finish off the Sniper Pugil.

Duo Method #1

This duo method involves two summoners and is noticeably easier than the solo method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, both summoners will activate Astral Flow and then have their Ramuhs assault the Sniper Pugil. After they both strike the pugil, have the Ramuhs use their Judgment Bolts, killing off the two Archer Pugils and severely weakening the Sniper Pugil. At this time, pop an Ether and wait till the Bloodpact recast timers reset, then finish off the Sniper Pugil with another Judgment Bolt or a Thunderspark.

Duo Method #2

This method is similar to the first, but with notable exceptions. Unlike the first method, only one summoner will use their Astral Flow, while the other just uses Thunderspark. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, one of the summoners will activate Astral Flow, then both will have their avatars assault the Sniper Pugil. The Astral Flow summoner will have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt while the other summoner will have Ramuh use Thunderspark, leaving all three pugils below 50% HP and paralyzed due to Thunderspark's additional Paralysis effect. The Astral Flow summoner will then pop an Ether and, once the Bloodpact recast timer has reset, will use Judgment Bolt again. At this time, if the Sniper Pugil is still alive, the other summoner can finish it off with a bloodpact or just allow the Ramuhs to melee its last bit of HP.

Just cleared this first try with my SMN, did exactly what it said in the video and it was perfect, didnt even lose health, once the archers are dead it just becomes, well, like shooting a fish in a barrel, as long as you kite it you cant lose.

Oh and it was Earthsday, did it for the Thunder Pact and it dropped first try! Might do this a few times for some gil as that was far too easy. Also dropped the Mannequin Head.

I used to farm this bcnm with my eyes closed and both hands tied behind my back but since installing WotG the Sniper Pug ain't having it. The Archer Pugs hit for around 1-4 and so will the sniper occasionally but the Sniper usually crits Ramuh for around 34-35 which for all intents and purposes will kill him in 6 hits. IMO this is still very soloable but you have to be johnny on the spot with the Astral Flows due to the fact that after landing the fist two Ramuh is down to less than 25% and will die with one crit from the Sniper.

/em tosses 20 beastmen seals to the fish.

I have done this BCNM about 30 times, have had the Mannequin Head drop everytime, so id say its a 100% drop rate. Only had Body drop once and have never seen the Warp scroll.
This was fun

Did this for the first time about a week ago. They were really easy and I got the Mannequin head and body on my first try! Now I just need to get the other parts. It's great that there's a BCNM that a SMN can solo.

Super easy BCNM solo as SMN. Just did my first attempt at it and won without any problems whatsoever. The method listed below is perfectly accurate; only thing I would add is a macro trick to make this a bit more automated and even easier.

On the Bolt macro I did this:
/pet "Judgment Bolt" <bt>
/wait 3
/pet "Retreat" <me>

Saved myself the extra bit of work (mostly because I'm lazy and don't like to give myself the chance to forget things in the heat of battle). For my first ever run finished with Ramuh at 40% hp left. Got my manny head...just need that body now.

Try using "Retreat" instead of letting him die. I do this consistently naked with one yagudo drink. Smn kite is a beautiful thing.

Anyone actually got a body to drop recently?
Soloable confirmed

Thought I'd post this since I was not sure this was soloable.

I got excited after reading posts on here and thought I'd give it a shot. Here's how it went and what I used, for my soloed win:

2 hi-pots (My 2nd try I used 4 hi-pots though)
1 Rolenberry Pie (though with this its kinda pointless)
2 Ethers & 1 Hi-Ether
2 Yag Drinks

I went in buffed up with just Protect, Barwatera, and Aqauviel. Used my pie (but like I said its pointless to use these on this bcnm), got my MP back. I ran up to the ramp casted Ramuh popped a Yag Drink, used my Astral Flow then set Ramuh to attack the Pugs. As soon as Ramuh engaged the pugs I hit Judgement Bolt, that took all there HP down to about half right off the bat. I ran down a few steps and popped my first Ether. Then I proceded to run until I couldnt see his lifebar anymore and took a few more steps for insurance, and waited fo him to die. When he died I waited about 5 seconds to resummon for added MP, then I got Ramuh out and as soon as I did the pugs came around the bend. So I set Ramuh on em as soon as they got in range, and hit my 2nd Judgement Bolt (which got me a little hate and I had to pop a Hi-Pot), but with that the 2 weaker pugs were dead and I ran up the ramp popped another ether. At this point Ramuh was meleeing the last pug, and as soon as my MP Regen wore from 2 hour usage I popped my Hi-Ether. But at this point it was kinda useless cuz Ramuh was eating way too much MP. Fortunately he died before he ate all my MP. I stood there for a good 10 secs waiting for more MP and I summoned Ramuh again for my 3rd 2 hour, but as soon as I did and the pug was in range my Astral Flow wore. So I was screwed and had to wait while Ramuh meleed the almost dead pug. And just as my Mp was almost gone (I had 8 MP left), Ramuh dealt the final blow, and I won. ;)

I got the following: 1 Manny Head, 1 Horde Lullaby, 1 Black Rock, 1 Handful of Pugil Scales, 1 Shall Shell, and a Mythril Beastcoin.

All in all its was very fun for my first bcnm victory and it came on my soloed effort. I just wish these items were worth alot more than they were. :(

Also I did this again later with my Whm friend who wanted it badly as well. The 2 pugs didnt die on the second Judgement Bolt and we almost died but in the end we won. And she got all the same items except she got a Platoon Mace instead of a Shall Shell.

Good Luck to all those who try this soloing. Just be sure to bring extra Ethers with you and treat it like the Soloed Avatar fights and you'll be just fine.;)
Other drops...
# Dec 18 2006 at 7:58 PM Rating: Decent
I gotta say this BCNM also drops the Black Rock.

Though its not worth much, I got this drop 2 times yesterday.

Thought I'd throw that out there since it wasnt on the list of drops.

Oh, and I got 6 items each time. But the only good one I got both times was the Manny Head each time.

As an additional note to any PLDs who think "I'll run in get aggro and tank all 3", think again. Went into this with 2 SMN and myself on PLD. Plan was to have each SMN AF on their run, on my run I'd tank while they judgment bolt. So I buff up and run in, thinking I'll hit my yag drink and pear au lait after i get a swing in. I'm blown against a wall. I head back to the center, get blown against the wall again. Try to get a cure off, interupted by another water blast. Try again. Same result.

With the 3 pugs staggering their blasts I couldn't get JAs, items or magic off.

Ended up doing 2 runs with one AF each. Though I could tank the Sniper Pug just fine by himself with each Ramah picking up the weaker ones. I would think for a non-astral flow set up, you would need a 2nd tank. Maybe PLD-PLD-WHM would work. One PLD solos an Archer while the other PLD holds hate on the other 2 pugs. Or even PLD-PLD-DD. /shrug Just a thought.

After reading about how to solo "Pulling the Stings" ENM (and beating it) i got very interested in BCNMs,KSNM and/or ENMs that a smn can solo.

I saw a video of a smn soloing this and read the posts and tried it out myself.

Gotta say, it was pretty easy and is its deffinitly worth getting rid of the 300+ Seals i have in storage.

Does anyone know any other BCNM, KSNM or ENM that are soloable for a SMN??

This is a strategy that seemed very effective when doing this BCNM jobs needed are 1 smn and 1 blm I know you can solo it with only a smn but it is still very difficult to do that and still have a large risk for death(for me at least)
list of things needed
suggest not doing on water or earth day
Jobs: smn X1(Ramuh needed)
blm X1
Yag drink X1
Step 1

Smn runs up and uses 2hour judgement bolt(Note use yag drink before you use it)

Step 2

blm can go all out on the pugils with stonega and just cast it over and over

Possible step 3

Ramuh will tank for at least most of the fight and if hate does get back on the blm it should be about the time you can do judgement bolt again for a kill blow to all the pugils.

Step 3/4

Collect the rewards I know this isnt a strategy that you can do over and over due too the 2-hour but I like mine to be able to win everytime you do it.(no waste of seals)

Note: I did this 2 times and both times won without a sweat so I think it is a good strategy.
Other Avatars?
# Oct 15 2006 at 4:47 AM Rating: Decent
Hi, i was just wondering if this is do-able with either Shiva or Garuda as they are the only avatars I have for my SMN at the moment (probably won't be getting any others very soon as I only levels SMN when i was deciding what to try as my main).

Thanks a lot for any responses ^^

ive done this 3 time if u have done any of the lvl 20 avatar fights its like that....just 100times easier
all you need is one yag. drink, ability to smn ramuh, and 2hr rdy
seems like a good drop rate 2 im 2/3 for bodies 1mil each on bahamut

Prep----
1) Be a smn, only need 1. This is soloable (*'-')b
2) Bring 1 yag, and only 1 yag, ethers are for noobs. That is it
3) Get orb
4) Travel to the BC - Enter

Battle---
1) Run up to them, dont get close enough to agro
2) Summon Ramuh
3) Drink yag
4) Astral Flow - activate the ability, dont use Judgment Bolt off the back
5) Have Ramuh assault the middle pug, let it hit it twice is what I do
6) Judgment Bolt

Now for the fun part

7) Soon as the dmg is done to the pugils from 1st Judgment Bolt - Retreat Ramuh and run back to the starting area at the bottom of the BC, Ramuh should not be getting hit the entire run down as the pugs attacks will push him enough that he will be out of their range eventually

8)By the time you reach the bottom, the next Blood pact timer will be ready.. guess how much mp you will have, yup, 40. I dont see why you people use ethers, yag does the job on its own. You only need 40 mp to be able for the Judgment Bolt to work (as the forumula for Astral Flow is -Your level x2 needed-). When your ready and you have the 40 mp needed to blast off the next Judgment Bolt, do so. This will kill off the 2 lesser pugils and leave the main pugil alive.

9) Now again, Retreat back up to the top where the pugils originally spawned, repeat step #8 as written above at the top. Note, if for whatever reason, a lesser pugil resists one of your 1st 2 Judgment Bolts, do not panic, you'll simply kill it along with the Boss pugil on your 3rd one.

Simple BC. no ethers. Did I mention Ramuh does no die at all? There is NO reason he should. Shouldn't be left to melee the pugils, its pointless, you should be kiting him up and down the BC to keep him alive. Keeping him alive means attention is on him the entire BCNM and you need not worry about pugils hitting you recasting him. Can do this BCNM naked if you wish, doesnt matter in the end. Goodluck, this BCNM has bought me my Noble's Tunic with the ammount of Heads and the occasional bodies that have dropped from it.

Thank you so much for the matter-of-fact step by step here Heretic. The original guide said to pop an ehther after JB and, since it worked the first time I did it I continued to use this strat. Also the casting of AF before and letting the Avatar get in a few hits was a good idea. I haven't played my smn for a long time and was confused about hate management for calling the Avatars, BPing, and Assaulting.

This helps me with another bcnm i wanna AF burn. I would rate you up but i guess that's only for premium members. ><

My original strategy involved running down the ramp and recasting Ramuh, I think this is where the need for ethers came in. I'm about to go try again but use the retreat strategy this time, thanks for the tips.

OK so I started doing this sometime last year and have had mixed results. I solo this as summoner. I found out about this quest and technique through a smn guide. I like it because it's fun and an easy way to make gil. The only thing I don't like is that it is a margin of chance involved. Everything has to be properly timed and if it's not BAM! you're dead. This was frustrating because who wants to waste BCs? I've had times where Ramuh is too far from mob during his 2 hour, and I've had the pugs hamering him to death before I could kill them off completely, etc. Needless to say, I started working with different ways to get the job done.

I started using Hermes Quencher (Flee) so that I could let Ramuh die a hero's death (in battle) and then safely recast, much like soloing bombs or gobs. So the first time I tried it yag drink wears and I completely forget to drink another one so I run out of mp. Second time I wait halfway between Mobs and "Run Away" like an idiot instead of running away as far as possible from the pugs. Ramuh dies. I recast. I get interrupted. The pugs are there in the middle of me recasting. I die.

So after all the death, I think I have an easy safe way for a smn to do this.
1. Trade orb to seal
2. Buff...whatever you think is necessary
3. Yag drink
4. Call Ramuh
5. Assault
6. Astral Flow
7. Judgement Bolt
8. Hermes Quencher
9. Run to "Run Away"
10. Ether
11. Yag drink
12. Call Ramuh
13. Assault
14. Judgement Bolt
15. Attack with Ramuh to finish off last pug if one is still alive, which it usually is.

Hope this helps.
Too easy

I decided to try this the other day, just looking to have some fun on my own with the possibility of making some quick cash. I entered the arena without any armor, a couple ethers and a couple Hi Potions.. didn't even bother to cast buffs. Getting to the top of the path, I stayed out of agro range of the pugils, summoned Ramuh, then poped a yag and ordered him to assault just before I two houred. At first I paniced a bit when I watched as all three pugs proceeded to knock Ramuh around like a rag doll with their little water ball attack. I then managed to get the first Judgement Bolt off, bringing the pugs down to about half of their life.. and started running like mad back down the hill while ordering Ramuh to retreat. When I got to the bottom, it took a few moments for the pugils to catch up... taking the opertunity to pop an ether (even though by the time they had gotten to me I would have had enough mp back to get off a second JB) and ordered Ramuh to assult the Sniper pugil as soon as I saw them come around the corner. I then proceeded to use Judgement Bolt again, killing off the two smaller pugs and bringing the Sniper down to about 3% health. Figuring Ramuh would die before the pug did, I started running back up the hill.. however after a few moments of seeing Ramuhs life bar still in tact I began to run back to the brawl and ordered Ramuh to use Judgement Bolt one last time.. even though it only had 1% life left. I love over-kill ^^ Anyway.. I walked away with a few nice items and had only used one ether and one Hi potion.. though I don't think the Hi-potion was even necessary. Compared to the lvl 20 solo fights this was a walk in the park XD

In response to an earlier post, releasing a pet doesn't show in your logs.. so it's still entirely possible that you accidently de-summoned him :(

Anyone know if this is soloable for bst the same way BCNM 20 "Wings of Furry" (Ghelbesha Outpost) is? In otherwords are the 2 Archer Pugils charmable?

we all had about 20 hi/pots and food that'll be very helpful(srry don't remember) the nin was tanking and i was dealing damage with dragon. and pld was doing good by himself then we killed them and got warp, thunder pack, body, head, and plantoon disc. becuase this was my orb i got all this stuff. can wait to use disc with nin.

i thought this quest went by pretty easy
