Summary

Maat has issued a final challenge to test your limits. Return with the items he has requested and the trial will begin.

Walkthrough

Talk to Maat at level 66 or higher to receive this final test. He will ask you to bring him a testimony of your job. These are Rare/Ex items that are dropped by various mobs depending on job.

Prior to a March 26, 2012 software update, a job Testimony was only good for one attempt and had to be manually dropped by the player after the attempt was over. After the software update, each testimony possessed will grant players three attempts at the corresponding battlefield: Shattering Stars / The Beast Within / Breaking the Bonds of Fate / Achieving True Power / A Furious Finale / Survival of the Wisest. The item will disappear upon trading it for the third time.

After you win the fight, make sure you go back and talk to Maat one last time for a cut scene, after which your level cap will be lifted to 75.

You'll likely need a party to beat these mobs efficiently as the drop rate, as for any required quest item, leaves much to be desired. (getting flashbacks of sub job or genkai 1 yet?)

Once you bring Maat the testimony, he will challenge you to a fight to prove once and for all you have ultimate mastery over your job.

Maat assumes your job and has all the abilities of it including your 2hr. Regardless of job however, he fights with his fists and can use asuran fists which could snuff out your hopes of winning in one fell swoop if you don't play your cards right, not to mention he hits pretty hard. Oh yes, your sub job is disabled for this fight so you can expect no help from that. You have 10 minutes to beat Maat and prove yourself to him. Watch out because the old man is WAY tougher than he looks!

Some general tips

-Maat does not attack until you do. Use this to your advantage by buffing yourself and resting to full before fighting.

-melees, buy an opo-opo necklace (TP regen when sleeping) and some sleeping potions. Put yourself to sleep with the necklace on to build up TP to 100% or so.

-Maat is not to be underestimated! Make sure you have any piece of equipment you think could help, use food, carry some medicine supply and have a battle strategy planned out. Do nothing but your very best!

-I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm told that Maat has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the fight. meaning, if you strip yourself (or maybe even equip stuff that lowers your important stats) and then equip your regular gear before fight him, it will give you a statistical advantage on him. Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?

Job strategies

Warrior

You'll need the opo-opo necklace, 4 sleep potions, a meat mithkabob and an icarus wing to do this. Be a good idea to macro your warrior abilities along with using the icarus wing as you must do this very smoothly. Enter the arena, eat your food, and put yourself to sleep until you have 100% TP. Once you're all ready, head over to meet and stand right in position. Now, turn on Aggressor, Berserk, Warcry and Mighty Strikes and pull out your weapon. Hit Maat once or twice and then use Raging Rush, immediatly use your icarus wing and then another Raging Rush. If all goes well, you'll do a fragmentation SC (who says only samurai can do one man SC's?). Maat won't know what hit him! If it doesn't quite kill Maat, start praying you finish him off fast as he will whip out his big guns right away which could quickly finish you.

Monk

When you enter the arena, eat a meat mithkabob and then do the usual sleep to 100% TP trick described above. Similar to warrior, engage Maat, use your best weapon skill, icarus wing and then use it again for mega damage. This will prompt Maat to use Hundred Fists, use yours as well. Pound away at Maat until you're at 100% TP again and then quickly use another WS which should take him down.

Thief

Thieves have another option if the player has not already beaten Maat while on another job. Instead of full out assault (described below), you can win by using your Job Ability to Steal a Scroll of Instant Warp from him.

>>> Steal Strategy <<<

  • A Scroll of Instant Warp is a Rare/Ex item, which you can only have one at a time. Be sure that you do not have one anywhere in your inventory when you face Maat (including your Mog House) otherwise you will not be able to Steal the item from Maat.

  • There is a 10 minute limit to this fight, and Steal has a five minute job ability timer, so the first Steal attempt needs to occur immediately upon entering the arena if there is any hope for there to be enough time for a second chance if Steal fails (which it often will).

  • If Steal is attempted without alternate preparation for a full melee fight, this is an all-or-nothing shot and the player should not expect to survive through the job ability timer. Plan on using some form of re-raiser (Scroll, Potion, Earring, or Hairpin), rest until the job ability timer expires and reattempt immediately before the event timer expires.

  • Maximize your stealing skill (Steal+) and equip quested Artifact (AF) gear (Rogue's Armlets -- +1, Rogue's Bonnet -- +1, Rogue's Culottes -- +1, Rogue's Poulaines -- +2) along with anything else you can find that improves stealing like Thief's Kote -- +3 (replaces Rogue's Armlets), Rabbit Charm -- +1, Rogue's Ring -- +3 (effect active when HP is 75% or lower) and Key Ring Belt -- +1 (all of these items are available at 70 or lower).

  • Only items that modify Steal will influence the chance of success or failure of the Job Ability ... the results are not affected by frequency of use (cannot be "skilled up") nor by any other modifier (STR, DEX, INT, and so on). While there are items above Level 70 that modify Steal, the player cannot wear them without having previously beaten Maat and broken the level limit. (A successful Steal will not end the fight if the player has previously beaten Maat on another job).

>>> Melee Fight <<<

  • Cap your skills for your level, particularly Dagger and Evasion and consider capping Parrying and Shield.
  • Use food -- Squid Sushi (HP +20, Accuracy +15%) and Persikos Au Lait (Regen 4 hp/tick and effect lasts 10 minutes = 800 HP)
  • Use equipment -- Opo-Opo Necklace, Blink Band, Spartan Hoplon (optional - casts Phalanx), Bomb Core / Fire Bomblet / Viking Shield (Attack+)
  • Stock up on medicines - Icarus Wing and Potions -- Vile Elixir (restores 25% HP), Vile Elixir +1 (restores 55% HP), Max-Potion, X-Potion, Hi Potion, Potion (consider using the NQ, +1, +2 or +3 versions). Carry as many potions as you feel you need and macro their use.
  • Equip as much Accuracy+ and Strength+ gear you can find. Macro in any gear that will increase Sneak Attack effectiveness.

>>> Battle Plan <<<

  • Equip your weapon(s) and the Opo-Opo Necklace, Sleep Potion x 4 (or Mary's Milk x 2) for 100% TP (do not change weapons or you will lose your TP).
  • Use Reraise, Blink, Phalanx, Squid Sushi and Persikos Au Lait.
  • Approach, use Sneak Attack, and then attack Maat from behind
  • After the first hit, immediately use Dancing Edge
  • Consume Icarus Wing (to regain 100% TP). This will give a Medicated Status Effect for two hours.
  • After gaining 100% TP, immediately use Dancing Edge. If this is done rapidly enough, it will cause a self skill chain resulting in additional damage from a Detonation effect.
  • Evaluate the situation ... If the player is in the yellow for HP, attempt Steal for best effect (Rogue's Ring is active under 75% HP) and then use a HP+ Potion.
  • After the second Dancing Edge, Maat should have used either Perfect Dodge or Asuran Fists. If Asuran Fists, use Perfect Dodge and then Flee until his Perfect Dodge wears off.
  • Re-engage Maat and build TP to 100% and use the third and final Dancing Edge.
  • At this point Maat should give up if he hasn't already.

  • An alternate strategy is to skill up Marksmanship and use Ranged Attack and land Sleep Bolts, particularly while Maat is under the effect of Perfect Dodge. This will give the player the chance to execute one or more additional Sneak Attack(s) while Maat is asleep. (Note: If you equip the Bomb Core or Fire Bomblet in the ammo slot for Attack+, be sure to macro in a safety to unequip the item before executing the Ranged Attack to avoid actually throwing the hard-to-get / expensive Attack+ item at Maat and losing it permanently.)

  • Be sure not to change weapons until after the second Dancing Edge otherwise you will waste the benefits of the Opo-Opo Necklace and the Icarus Wing.

White Mage

White mage? Solo a tough guy like Maat? Well, fortunately, White Mages don't have to actually beat Maat either. You must simply take a certain amount of damage from him and survive. (how much? It appears to be random from what I've seen, best hope you get the low end of the range). Some re-equipping will be in order here. Now you must equip yourself for defense. Some items of note are phalanx rings, earth staff (Ask your paladin friend if you can borrow his. ^^), and bat earrings. Drink a blind potion to give yourself +30 evasion from the bat earrings (you won't be actually attacking so being blinded makes no difference). Bring along a couple bottles of Yagudo drink, plenty of healing potions, some echo drops and a fish chiefkabob (heh, eating tank food. Never thought you'd see the day?) Now, when you enter, cast all your buffs. Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Aquaveil and Blink and then rest back to full. (you need all your MP for healing so don't waste it recasting these if they wear off). Eat your food and blind yourself then use Yagudo drink and Regen III on yourself. Now cast Paralyze on Maat to get his attention (if it actually sticks, great! But don't fret if it doesn't) Maat should be hitting you for two digit damage so you should have no trouble keeping your HP up. Don't actually attack him, that gives him more TP which is not good. Don't spam lower cures, wait for HP to get somewhat low and use high end cures. More HP for your MP. Basically, you're doing what a paladin would do. But if you're a taru, mind you don't use cures that heal for more HP than you have either. Don't try to enfeeble Maat and only Cure, Silence, or Paralyze if they are cast on you. If all goes smoothly, you likely won't need Benediction but it's good to keep in mind if Maat gets lucky shots in and you need healing NOW. Just keep taking hits and healing them and Maat will eventually give up.

Black Mage

Do this right, you'll win easy. For good measure, get your INT as high as possible with food and equips. Enter Area, cast your favourite ancient spell, quickly use elemental seal-sleep II on Maat before he can retaliate. Now get him with another ancient spell while he's asleep. Now, bind him so he can't smack you around for nuking him and fire off a regular elemental spell (best one you have). That should finish him off. If all goes well, Maat will never get a shot off at you. ^^

Red Mage

Very commonly considered the hardest of all the Maat fights and for good reason. Chainspell in the hands of an enemy is never a good thing and this time, you don't have the chainspell-stun solution to fall back on. I guess the best defense against a master of cheatery is another master of cheatery. ^^; What's a red mage to do? Luck plays a big role in this fight so say your prayers before doing this. First and foremost, get a wind staff. You'll need it. Get your INT as high as you possibly can, every last point counts. Enter, dash towards Maat, dispel and sleep him immediately. While he's asleep, cast your own buffs, and dispel any and all he has on himself. Nuke Maat with Aero III until you're out of MP, convert, heal youself back up with hi-potions. Now the big guns. Chainspell aero III as fast as you can, Maat will do the same. Chainspell should finish him off. If it doesn't, continue to nuke and hope it's enough. Good luck!

Paladin

Time to show Maat who's the real defender of truth and justice! Mwa ha ha!! (Yes, I'm a paladin. How'd you guess?) Like white mage, some changes in equipment is in order here. You'll want damage dealing equipment instead of tanking but keep the sword and shield, you'll need them. Bring along an Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions, vile elixer or two, yagudo drink and meat mithkabob. Now, when you enter the arena, do the usual routine. Sleep yourself to 100% TP, drink your drink, eat your eats, cast your buffs and move in. Use Sentinel as soon as you engage Maat and then use Rampart when that runs out. Like warrior and monk, use your best WS right off the bat, use the icarus wing and then immediatly hit Maat again with another WS to get some good early damage. But watch out! If he flashes you right away, hold off the WS until the blindness wears off. Now, duel Maat, healing yourself along the way and shield bashing him if he tries to cast Banish III. Maat will eventually use invincible, flash him and kite him when he does this. (don't disengage, that takes too long. Just push L3 to break targeting and run around the room) Just try to stall until Maat's Invincible runs out. If you get a chance to nuke him, do so but watch your MP. When his invincible runs out, now it's your turn! Activate your own invincible and fearlessly charge back in! Attack Maat mercilessly and take this chance to heal yourself up with items. (wouldn't it just rock if Maat used Asuran fists right now? Heh heh!) By the time invincible runs out, you should have another WS ready. Use it and hopefully it will finish him off. If it doesn't, hopefully you brought enough medicine to hold your ground until another WS is ready.

Dark Knight

This is a pretty straightforeward fight actually but it's very important to carry lots of hi-potions and macro them. You'll be using a lot. Like the other melees, use an Opo-opo necklace, sleep yourself to 100% TP, use ws, icarus wing, ws right away. Use def or atk food, your choice. Most of your spells won't be very effective against Maat so don't bother. Just focus on hacking Maat up good. (but always hope he wastes turns using stupid spells like Absorb-CHR) Drain might come in handy but I wouldn't bank on it. Use your hi-potions to keep up your HP as you fight and your attack up skills should be done at your own discretion. The biggest threat is Blood Weapon. When Maat activates it, push L3 to break target lock and run around the room to reduce the number of times he attacks you. You DON'T want him regaining lost HP. once his blood weapon runs out, activate your own take back some of the punishment he's dealt you. (if your HP are still in good shape, this wouldnt' be a bad time to use souleater too) Use WS when they're ready and you should be okay as long as you are ready for anything Maat throws at you. Just beware not to use Guillotine when soul eater is activated or you could very well end up digging your own grave.

Ranger

Another fairly straightforward fight. Only thing to take note of is that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right away or in retaliation to a WS. Moral: if he hasn't used Eagle Eye Shot yet, be careful not to use a ws if you haven't got the HP to take it. Your best bet is to try and tempt him to use it right away while you're still at full HP. Use Shadowbind so he can't melee attack you (and thus possibly use Asuran Fists). Other than that, do the usual Opo-opo necklace sleep to 100% TP, icarus wings and stock up on hi-potions. Fill him up full of firepower and be done with it. A Tracker's Earring helps.

Beastmaster

Not too hard. Bring along a Panzer Ghalad for this fight along with the usual Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions and some def up food (I personally like fish chiefkabobs as a dedicated tank but it's up to you). Okay, sleep yourself to 100% TP, summon your pet and sic it on Maat while you fight Maat's pet but don't use your WS on Maat's pet, that's for Maat himself. once you kill Maat's pet, run out of range, heal yourself back up with hi-potions and let your pet fight Maat to the death. Now run in and hit Maat with rampage. That should send him packing. (as for your 2hr, I suspect using it will prompt Maat to use his as well which could give you trouble. If you don't need to use it, then don't. No need to risk it)

Bard

Max out your sword level for this as Spirits Within will be your best friend here. Bring along the usual melee stuff, Opo-necklace, sleep potions, hi potions along with def food and a stack of Selbina milk. When you enter the arena, watch Maat and see what he's buffing himself with. Eat your food, sleep yourself to 100% Tp and then use your icarus wing which should bring you up to 200% (yeah, little different set up this time). Now, drink your Selbina milk. This is your "finale blocker." If Maat finales you, it will remove the milk effect instead of your songs. Drink another milk if Maat finales you. Use soul voice along with your best songs. Now, use finale on Maat if he has any potentially threatening buffs on (that's why I said to watch what he does when you enter.) and debuff him. Now, hit him with Spirits Within for a strong early hit. Now it's just a matter of fighting him, using WS as they come up. Finale any buffs Maat puts up and drink milk if he finales you.

Samurai

Get ready to amaze even yourself with some fancy WSing. Bring along a few pear au lait, meat mithkabob and some hi-potions. Enter the burning circle and use meditate, making sure to wait for it to recharge before you enter to confront Maat. When you enter, use third eye and use your food and drink. Now, use the following skills: Tachi: Yukikaze > Meikyo Shisui > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Meditate > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Gekko. After the smoke clears, simply continue to duel Maat, drinking potions to keep health up and drink another pear au lait when the first one runs out.

Ninja

Cast Utsusemi: Ni, sleep yourself to 100% and eat your food as normal. The biggest threat is Maat's 2hr for which you must keep your HP above 700 in preparation for. Enter the arena. Maat will have Utsusemi: Ni on so don't unleash your WS until you've killed his shadows. Hit Maat with Blade: Chi or ten then proceed to Paralyze, Slow and Blind Maat. At all times, keep your HP above 700 so Maat's 2hr doesn't kill you. Once that's past, it's straightforward from there on.

Dragoon

Bring along a fish chiefkabob, a stack of hi potions, sleep potions and some Selbina milk. Use the sleep potions and Opo-necklace to get your TP up like always. Summon your wyvern and use your food and drink. Now, engage Maat and hit him five times or so and he will summon his wyvern. By this time, you should have 100% TP. Penta thrust Maat's wyvern but don't change targets, this will prompt your wyvern to breath on Maat. Jump and high jump, hit Maat a few times then use super jump and then immediatly break target and turn away from Maat (so you're engaged still but not attacking Maat). Maat and your wyvern will be locked in battle and with some luck, your wyvern will finish him off for you. If it doesn't, turn around and take him out yourself. He should be near death by now.

Summoner

Short fight but it's all or nothing. When you enter, use Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor on yourself and get your MP back to full before confronting Maat and drink a Yagudo drink. Bring out whichever avatar is strongest on the current day (or Fenrir if you have him) and immediately use Astral Flow, refill your MP with ethers quickly and use Astral Flow again as soon as it's ready. That should take out Maat. If Maat uses Astral Flow himself, you will not survive. You simply have to be quicker at the draw, nothing more to it.

Well I'm assuming that the steps taken to beat Maat with that strategy the Monks must have had on Ochiudo Kote and Spartan Cesti or Feral fangs. 7 times I've tried that and 7 times I've failed. This guy is really annoying...

I have a small strategy that I was planning on using in case of emergency. Basically I level to 69 and leave around 100-200 tnl for level 70. I'm curious to know if using a page from the dragon chronicles to gain instant xp and level up would actually work and result in a full cure.

Thanks.

today ( before 40 min ) i had nothing to do , and one of my ls said that i can use the opo opo way =P, so i gat that equip , made sleeping potions , gat that wings , gat tele , zoned to kuftal tunnel , saw guiver and 10-15 bodies , hide fast ( one more sec and he would have seen me XD ) give up on the coffer when i saw him btw XD , zoned to Cape, tried stealing some bandits but failed 4 times (luck sign ^^; ) gat mine the 5th time , warped ,started the BCNM.

Paladin

:: What You Need

Items / Medicene

Meat Mithkabob
Yagudo Drink x2
Melon Juice
Sleeping Potion x4
Vile Exilir +1
Paladin Testimony

Equipment

Weapon: Espadon +1
Shield: General's Shield
Ranged: Lightning Bow
Head: Gallant Coronet
Neck: Opo-Opo Necklace and Iron Musketeers Gorget
Earrings: Drone Earrings x2
Body: Gallant Surcoat
Hands: Gallant Gauntlets
Rings: Victory Ring x2 (friend of mine let me borrow)
Back: Knightly Mantle
Waist: Life Belt
Legs: Gallant Leggings:
Feet: Gallent Breeches

:: Strategy

Before speaking to Maat remove every equipment you have on. I don't know if this method is indeed fact of fiction,
but does it hurt to try? As soon as you trade your Paladin Testimony to Maat, you will be automatically teleported to
Qu'Bia Arena. There you trade once again your Paladin Testimony to
the Burning Circle and your battle with Maat begins.

Once teleported inside, straight away re-equip all your equipment cast Protect IV, and Shell III. Use your Melon Juice
afterwards. Equip your Opo-Opo Necklace if you haven't done so, and now use your Sleeping Potions respectifully as
Sleep wears. After you have used all 4 Sleeping Potions and have
awaken from them you should now have 100% TP and Full MP. Re-equip your Iron Musketeer's Gorget if you haven't done
so. If your HP and MP isn't full dont worry about it.

Make your way towards Maat. Before entering the circular room use your Meat Mithkabob target him and draw your sword
before approaching Maat, Run up to him and straight away use Swift Blade, almost instantly afterwards Maat will Flash you.
In this short period use your Icarus Wing wait for Blindness
to wear, and use another Swift Blade. Immediately after you use your second Swift Blade Flash
him. After you use Flash immediatly use a Yagudo Drink.

At this moment you should have basically taken 1/4 of his HP away. Use Rampart. Keep an eye on your TP and HP.
If you HP is below 700 use a Cure IV. Always Flash Maat as soon as it becomes available. Once you have Gathered
100%TP use Swift Blade, again make sure you are not blind before
using your Weapon Skill.

At this moment Maat's HP should be roughly 50% left or a tiny bit higher/lower. Your HP should roughly be 80-90%
full and your MP roughly 50% full. Maat will use Invincible. As soon as Maat casts Invincible make sure your HP is near
full reason for this I will explain later. Flash him if it is available for use
and take off Auto-LockOn either by pressing * on your keyboard or L3 on your PS2 controller. Run around the edges
of the circular room for 30 seconds until Invincible wears, please make
sure your HP is near full, as when I was running around in circles, he
Shield Bash'd me and i was stunned while he hammered into me. As you are running around Maat will get a couple of hits
in wait till you roughly have 50-60%HP left and use your Vile Elixir +1. You should now have pretty much Max HP and Max MP.

Once Maat's Invincible wears re-target Maat and Flash him again. Use a Yagudo Drink and wait for his blindness
to Dissapear. After Maat recovers from blindness Use Invincible. Dont use Flash while your Invincible is active, as its a waist
of MP. Immediatly after Invicible wears use Sentinel, in a short
moment you should have enough TP to use another Weapon Skill. Again make sure you aren't blind before using Swift Blade.
Use it, and the battle should end. When he roughly have 25%
HP left.

I finished the bout with roughly 80% HP and 50% MP. In 8 minutes and 23 seconds. I spent too much time re-equipping
my equipment and using Sleeping Potions too slowly. If complete the first steps quickly this battle with my exact
setup could taken just a little under or over 7 minutes. I plan on fighting him
again and breaking the record in Shiva. Which is roughly below 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

After the battle you will recieve a Scroll of Instant Warp. Warp out of Qu-Bia Arena and go speak to Maat for a short
cutscene, and breakage of the level 70 barrier.

:: Maat's Stats

Maat only has a couple of spells and job abilties available to him. Flash, Shield Bash, Banish II and Invincible. Luckily
for me, he did not use Asuran Fists (easily recoverable from, as long as HP remains above 700HP).

Maat's physical attacks ranged from 60-100 HP a hit with my equipment setup. Mostly 60-70HP as I had been regularly
blocking with Shield.

:: Tips

Always Flash Maat whenever it becomes available for use.

Make a new macro set and space it out. Make it nice and organized, as you wont have access to moves such as Provoke,
Warcry, Defender, and Berserk. You dont need a macro for Cure 1,2, and 3 only Cure 4.

Don't Panic. Maat is easy as cake. I'd say the hardest part in the quest would be trading your testimony to the Burning
Circle and listening to the dreaded BCNM music.

:: Other

Vitality is not important. If you have access good STR or ATT+ equipment use it. Ask your friends if you could borrow thier
stuff. If you are level 70 and have a Joyeuse Maat would get absolutely ripped to shreads. Possibly win in under 7
minutes and break the record in your server.

You have a 10 minute timelimit to defeat Maat. So please for those of you who think getting 300% before approaching Maat
will own him with Spirits Within.. Infact you will probably lose running out of time.

PALADIN Strategy~
# Jul 18 2005 at 4:52 AM Rating: Decent
I know there are alot of posts about this, but I just wanna share my experience cuz knowledge is power.

I used my Artifact Gear instead of my JSE. Just kept on my hercules' ring and jelly ring. Equipped a bat earring for extra EVA on his flashes and used a Drone earring for Agi.

I heard a rumor the best PLD sword for this is an Espadon or Espadon+1. So I grabbed a regular Espadon since I have no use for it after this fight.

Entered the BCNM naked (and nervous ^^;) popped on the Opo-Opo Necklace, Espadon, General's Shield and Rosenbogen. Casted Protect IV and Shell III. Then used a Yagudo Drink and Sleeping potion. While i was sleeping i equiped the rest of my gear.

When i got 100tp i ran up to the edge of the battlefield. And chomped down a Tavzanian Taco, Pamama Au Lait and another Yagudo Drink.

I charged on in and casted Flash and then hit him with SwiftBlade. Only hit him for 160 damage though (;'-')

I did not use any ability's in the beggining, i just kept exchanging blows with him. He was hittin for 80 dmg or so and i was hittin for about 40. When i got down to 800hp or so I used Cure IV.

I got lucky when i got 100tp again i used VorpalBlade just as he was readying invincible but my hit got thru first :) for about 200 dmg.

This whole time I kept flashing him every time it was ready for use. As soon as his invincible wore off i used Rampart. When it was done i used Sentinel.

Then he used Dragon Kick on me. I Shield Bashed him and then used a Vile Elixir. And Cure IV'd myself again.

He was at about 40 percent HP now and i was at full HP and about 20 mp. I just kept fighting him until i judged he was about 100tp then i used Invincible.

My HP at that point was about 600, worried about my lack of MP and slow Yagdrink Refresh I started Spamming all 4 of my HiPotions+1. My TP was about 60 but i figured it was now or never so i popped the Icarus Wing.

I hit him with another SwiftBlade, Invincible wears off, Maat is no idiot he saved another DragonKick for when it wore. He's down to 25% HP and i'm at about 700hp. I get just enough mp for another Cure II but i opt instead to flash him.

I land one more hit fo 27 damage. And then he stops the fight. And tells me how I showed excellent form. He still had at least 25% percent HP but I had won the fight.

This was my second time fighting him, since the first time he decided to go nuts with 4 Asuran Fists in a row when my Invincible wore off.

I do not reccomend fighting exactly like I did but at least it worked, I think if you just prove to him you know how to TANK and not try to just smash him, you can win with alot less struggle.

After the fight was over i realized i forgot to put my I.M.Gorget back on during the fight (^^;) Hehe, like i said i was nervous.

Sorry for my very long post~ I wish you all luck on beating Maat. Thanks to everyone for their advice on how to beat him.

As a Paladin should i use a sword & shield or an earth staff or dark staff?
Rdm Maat Tips
# Jul 16 2005 at 1:30 PM Rating: Decent
It took me a total of 4 times to beat maat as a RDM70 and here are a few things I learned...

Buff up before the fight, a good food would be a Marron Glace for extra mp. Cast Pro and Shell IV, stoneskin, blink, refresh, then rest to full.

When you run in sleep maat (sleep 1 should stick fine if you go on darksday and it costs less than sleep 2). Dispel maat until you see Shell is gone. Then if hes still asleep cast Aero III (you should have a windstaff macro'd to this) and then resleep him.

After he is re-slept check to make sure stoneskin, blink and refresh are good as they should be up at all times. When you are ready cast Aero III again and re-sleep him. Some people argue to repeat this step until you are low on mp but I have found something that works better. If you have an earthstaff, cast Stone III your 3rd time and then sleep him. Using stone the third time instead of Aero brings him just before using chainspell where as a 3rd Aero III would cause him to use it.

At this point make sure he is asleep and your buffs are up. In my opinion this is the best time to convert, right before he uses chainspell. Heal yourself to around full with Cure IV. Now chainspell and go all out with Aero III's. He will begin to hit you and will use his own chainspell you but hopefully your blink, stoneskin, phalanx and HP can take the beating (and pray that he doesnt use asuran fists). If all goes well he should give up when his health is at about 1/10.

Good luck to any RDM's attempting to try maat, hes on tough old man.

i have been told that you only have to fight him once per character and not for every job. im coming up on RDM Maat battle and after that idk if i will want to fight him again. So the question is Do you have to fight him for every job that you plan on taking past 70 or just once?
RE: i hope this is false

Just like all the other Genkai quests you only have to do them once per character. so if u do all your genkai with your rdm then you wont have to do them again with any other job.

for the ranger strategy, I noticed that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right off or in retaliation to a Weapon Skill... if this is the case, why not bring in a blink band and use that before u go in? Lead off with a WS and he'll retaliate with Eagle Eye Shot, gets cancelled out by Blink and you're in the clear... or would this not work?

whoops, hit enter too early lol anyways heres how it went...
praetorian uses an iracus wing
praetorian uses shadowbind on Maat
praetorian readies sidewinder (gonig for sidewinder, barrage, ees, sidewinder combo)
praetorians uses sidewinder. maat takes 752 dmg.
maat is no longer bound
maat readies Eagle Eye Shot
praetorian ***** his pants
maat uses EES praetorian takes 592 dmg.
maat hits praetorian for 409 dmg (i have NO idea how!!!)
praetorian uses barrage
praetorian uses sharpshot
maat hits praetorian for 273 dmg
maat defeats praetorian
praetorian delvls to 1 and loses his manhood.

whole battle lasts 37 seconds and now im afraid of my grandma

300% TP?
# Jul 09 2005 at 4:21 AM Rating: Decent
Im noticing that NO ONE slept himself at start up to 300% of TP. Why's that? does it really would take that long to sleep into that could mess up the fight?
Cause a Spirits WIthin or whatever other WS at 300% would rock Matt's world so good.

-Arbalest +1 (Sleep/Blind Bolt)
-Emperor Hairpin
-Opo.opo necklace/Spike necklace
-2x Dodge earrings
-Aketon
-War gloves
-Sniper's Ring

elvaan RDM vs Maat
# Jul 03 2005 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
grr I just typed this whole long post and it got deleted. So excuse me if it isn't pretty this time around. :p

To make a long story short, elvaan RDM are weak at the Maat fight on account of our low MP and INT. But by combining the rdm strategy with the bard strategy (at start of this thread) I was able to beat him pretty easily:

Eat a pie.
Go in with MP+ gear, an opo-opo necklace, and a fast sword equiped, and run to Maat so u can keep an eye on the punk. Refresh and buff with protect4 and shell (I used regular old shell 1) Then use sleep potions to raise your TP to 100%, then cast blink and stoneskin. Use 4 more potions to raise TP to 200%. Use an icarus wing for 300% TP. Buff one last time with Refresh and Phalanx.
All that should take about 6 minutes.
**Make sure you have phalanx, blink, and stoneskin up when you attack. I failed once because I forgot stoneskin**
Engage and attack Maat until his 2 images are gone (if he has used blink). When u are sure his images are gone, hit Spirits Within. Your HP should- with a little luck- be 100% full when you use Spirits. For me it did 462 damage (Maat had stoneskin up). Then cast sleep on Maat, and dispel his shell effect.
Equip your INT+ gear.
Walk away a bit, throw a gravity at him if you want, re-blink, then hit chainspell. From here its the standard RDM chainspell fight. I nuked with 3 aeroIIIs, sleep --> Maat, converted + cure4 and another blink, then 3 more aeroIIIs and a thunderII. 2 of my aeroIII spells were resisted and only did half damage (156).

My gear wasn't too fantastic, full AF with some RSE for MP boost, and 2 INT+2 rings for nuking. I had tried using elemental staff in the past for nuking but this time I used a Mythic Wand and Numinous Shield. I beat him before chainspell wore off.
I reccomend this tactic for any RDM with high HP. It gives you a really powerful opening attack, which makes up for less-than-taru INT.
Good luck!
The strategy here didn't work for me.. (BLM)
# Jul 02 2005 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
I followed the strategy here from alla on how to beat Maat as BLM.. I died.

My recommendation is AM is not so good for this fight.. too much MP, too much casting time. I'd recommend the -gaIII spell to start, then keep an eye if Maat will cast any elemental spells if he does, stun him then elemental seal sleepII him, if not, blast him with another -gaIII spell. Then finish him off with another -gaIII or if its not up, a regular III spell.

I didn't need bind because Maat never tried to melee me. Just start nuking from a distance; it was pretty much a mage fight for me. My fight went:
me: firaga III
him: rasp
him: blind
me: stonega III
him: stonegaII
me: stun, elemental seal, sleepII, fireIII
him: toasty

My gear for the fight were as follows:
black cloak, fire staff, ice staff, 2x zircon rings, 1 moldavite, 1 phantom earring, 1 phantom tathlum, AF pants, AF gloves, AF feet, red cape+1, penitent's rope, elemental torque.

I used a yagudo drink and a melon pie+1, brought hi ethers and hi potions for good measure but didn't use any of them.

Oh and I fought him at lvl 69.

GL to all the BLMs breaking the limit. Maat's a pansy, show him who the real nuker is :D

bound wore off instantly and he killed me...i RR after he ran into center the stonega 3 for the win w00t w00t now i can lvl to lvl 75 oh yea...i was only lvl 68 doing this so dont let u tell neone u have to wait till 70

I was panicking about this fight for days, asking everyone I knew and listening to all the horror stories, so here's the out and out lowdown for everyone else:

This is a walk in the park! I've been in parties that took links where I've been in more danger than this! Here's what happened:

1st attempt. I used all my standard exp gear (full AF clownsuit) and acquired a few extra items: Bat earrings and blinding potions (+30 eva), fish mithkabobs (huge +def), phalanx rings (+def) and an earth staff (-20% damage taken). Some were bought, others were borrowed.

Went and saw maat wearing level 1 starting armor, showed him the testimony (trade it) and got a tele to balgas dias. Went into the bcnm buffed up and equipped my gear while resting to full. While this was going on, maat was casting various spells including shell 4 - I was 67 at the time so it's not true he matches you.

Into the arena for the fight and there was maat in his blue pants, jacket and hat just like always. Started with paralyze - blink took it. Then he starts in, with pauses between the hits, I had no problem keeping the cures going. I only used cure 3s and the occasional 4, then he hit me with silence. No problem, I was ready for this and I hit the macro for the echo drops - command error!! 3 more attempts and it still failed. Then I pull up my inv and start looking for them, first time I ever had to curse gobbie bag 6! Found them but by this time I'm down to 30 hp. By the time I'd used them, it was all over - 6 minutes and I was dead!
It took some time to get another mages testimony so I had plenty of time to find and fix the error in the macro! (lower case instead of capitalized - lesson learned, test them!!) so I was level 69 when I went back to try again.

2nd attempt: This time I went in already dressed in full gear and all special equipment in place. Nothing changed with maat, he was exactly the same and the same format of fight too. It went on and on and on, I was glad I'd picked up a few pro-ethers (~30k gil each, but an instant 450+mp recovered compared to the normal ethers which give me 30-40mp, ymmv) and I used two of these. Mp was now almost gone (35 mp) and I was down to 530/900 hp. My finger was hovering over the bene button when maat sudenly annouced "that was a mighty fine display ..." I'd won! 9 minutes 26 seconds, and I would estimate between 6 and 8k of hp.

To sum up, don't fret it, this is not a hard fight - in fact, I used paralyze to start and didn't hit him at all after that. Wear your normal gear to go in, plus any extra def or eva gear you can get hold of, and make sure you have an adequate means of refreshing your mp. Then just grin and treat it like any exp party where the tank can't hold hate - all WHMs know that they are all too common :(

Once the fight is over, do NOT forget to go back to jeuno (you will need blm subbed or a warp scroll for this) and go and see maat again to get the level cap lifted and an interesting insight into more of the story! If you talk to him again after this, he will invite you back for a rematch any time you want, just bring another testimony! I might do it with battle staff equipped and see if I can't pound him into the ground just for giggles ^^

Good luck to you all, see you online!

What is this "ancient spell" that the Blackmages need to use to beat Maat?
RE: Huh???
# Jun 30 2005 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
The 6 High powered elemental spells you learn from 50-60 are known as ancient magic. Freeze, Burst, Quake, Tornado, Flood, Flare. They cost Large amounts of mp (300+), have massive cast times (18+ secs), long recast waits(45+secs), and also work as resistance debuffs.
RE: Huh???
# Jun 23 2005 at 6:16 PM Rating: Default
I'm a BRD but I know BLMs in my LS just used the spell that relates to the day. For example use a fire nuke on Firesday. I know fire is one of the ones that worked, not sure if it matters though.

They just nuke, ES sleep, nuke, maat is dead

Stats durring fight: lvl 67, elvaan, lvl 200 sword skill

Armor:
hands: Light Gauntlets
neck: Spike Necklace (Opo-Necklace for TP)
waist: Gleaman's Belt
back: Amemit Mantle
body: Scorpion Harness (I know it's expensive, just borrow one from someone for a couple minutes)
head: Blink Band
legs: Bard AF
feet: Bard AF
earrings and rings: I just borrowed some random ones from some melee DD friends.

Food: Attack food (not defence food as mentioned above) I used Steamed Crab

Medicines and Drinks:
-Icarus Wing (gives 100% TP)
-8 HiPotion +1
-Perliskio a'laits (spelling) this is a drink that gives regen effect
-Sleep Potions (to get TP from your Opo-Necklace)

Songs:
At the start (before you engage him) 2 hour, and double Paeon.
Stick him with Carnage Elegy and Foe Requiem 6, then Finale him as you see fit.

Start the battle off with Spirit's Within while your HP is still maxed, next time you get TP use Potions to raise your HP before you use it again.

I think the taking off armor before the fight really helps because if you unequip your instrument Maat only gets one song buff. I don't know this for sure but he would sing, not play an instrument to buff himself when I entered naked.

Good Luck, if you've done a lot of burning circle fights before you have nothing to worry about. Just stay calm, hit your macros and before you know it Maat will be dead.

SAM WS idea...
# Jun 18 2005 at 5:24 AM Rating: Decent
I was thinking the other day whydoesn't a SAM go for a L3 SC in this, of course it would require using an Icarus Wing to do so but it should still be an option.

Meditate -> Tachi: Jinpu -> switch to Polearm -> Icarus wing -> penta Thrust -> Gravitation -> switch back to Great Katana -> Meikyo Shisui -> Tachi: Gekko -> Darkness. Then Tachi: Yukikaze -> Tachi: Gekko -> Fragmentation.

The Darkness should do a lot more damage and hopefully cut down on the after SC fighting.

The WS of Maat is random, i did 3 time and he used 3 diffrent WS on me,so good luck.
I did it as a 69 PLD, i won him at my third try.The equiments is not the most important thing, most important is the battle plan. +VIT or +DEX whatever you like.

I'm a 66 RNG atm, my battle plan against Maat was, I believe, good. But all goes down to how much ammunition Barrage uses.
I did the 100%TP thing, had an Icarus Wing, and a Blink Band. (I used Bullets)

Enter with 100%TP and Blink up and immediately use Slug shot, he should throw Eagle Eye Shot right away (pray that your Blink takes it, mine did). Right after your slug shot use your Icarus Wing, and throw another Slug shot, Reverberation SC. Shadowbind and back off since he'll hit 150+ per fist. Recast Blink if you want you feel safe (might take -too- long~) Use Barrage (and hope it shoots 5 bullets that will give you 80+TP, Eagle Eye Shot, and Slug shot again, if all hits and barrage does go well, he should die of that.

My barrage sucked and i got it to 20%, I lost D'=
