Summary

Maat has issued a final challenge to test your limits. Return with the items he has requested and the trial will begin.

Walkthrough

Talk to Maat at level 66 or higher to receive this final test. He will ask you to bring him a testimony of your job. These are Rare/Ex items that are dropped by various mobs depending on job.

Prior to a March 26, 2012 software update, a job Testimony was only good for one attempt and had to be manually dropped by the player after the attempt was over. After the software update, each testimony possessed will grant players three attempts at the corresponding battlefield: Shattering Stars / The Beast Within / Breaking the Bonds of Fate / Achieving True Power / A Furious Finale / Survival of the Wisest. The item will disappear upon trading it for the third time.

After you win the fight, make sure you go back and talk to Maat one last time for a cut scene, after which your level cap will be lifted to 75.

You'll likely need a party to beat these mobs efficiently as the drop rate, as for any required quest item, leaves much to be desired. (getting flashbacks of sub job or genkai 1 yet?)

Once you bring Maat the testimony, he will challenge you to a fight to prove once and for all you have ultimate mastery over your job.

Maat assumes your job and has all the abilities of it including your 2hr. Regardless of job however, he fights with his fists and can use asuran fists which could snuff out your hopes of winning in one fell swoop if you don't play your cards right, not to mention he hits pretty hard. Oh yes, your sub job is disabled for this fight so you can expect no help from that. You have 10 minutes to beat Maat and prove yourself to him. Watch out because the old man is WAY tougher than he looks!

Some general tips

-Maat does not attack until you do. Use this to your advantage by buffing yourself and resting to full before fighting.

-melees, buy an opo-opo necklace (TP regen when sleeping) and some sleeping potions. Put yourself to sleep with the necklace on to build up TP to 100% or so.

-Maat is not to be underestimated! Make sure you have any piece of equipment you think could help, use food, carry some medicine supply and have a battle strategy planned out. Do nothing but your very best!

-I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm told that Maat has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the fight. meaning, if you strip yourself (or maybe even equip stuff that lowers your important stats) and then equip your regular gear before fight him, it will give you a statistical advantage on him. Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?

Job strategies

Warrior

You'll need the opo-opo necklace, 4 sleep potions, a meat mithkabob and an icarus wing to do this. Be a good idea to macro your warrior abilities along with using the icarus wing as you must do this very smoothly. Enter the arena, eat your food, and put yourself to sleep until you have 100% TP. Once you're all ready, head over to meet and stand right in position. Now, turn on Aggressor, Berserk, Warcry and Mighty Strikes and pull out your weapon. Hit Maat once or twice and then use Raging Rush, immediatly use your icarus wing and then another Raging Rush. If all goes well, you'll do a fragmentation SC (who says only samurai can do one man SC's?). Maat won't know what hit him! If it doesn't quite kill Maat, start praying you finish him off fast as he will whip out his big guns right away which could quickly finish you.

Monk

When you enter the arena, eat a meat mithkabob and then do the usual sleep to 100% TP trick described above. Similar to warrior, engage Maat, use your best weapon skill, icarus wing and then use it again for mega damage. This will prompt Maat to use Hundred Fists, use yours as well. Pound away at Maat until you're at 100% TP again and then quickly use another WS which should take him down.

Thief

Thieves have another option if the player has not already beaten Maat while on another job. Instead of full out assault (described below), you can win by using your Job Ability to Steal a Scroll of Instant Warp from him.

>>> Steal Strategy <<<

  • A Scroll of Instant Warp is a Rare/Ex item, which you can only have one at a time. Be sure that you do not have one anywhere in your inventory when you face Maat (including your Mog House) otherwise you will not be able to Steal the item from Maat.

  • There is a 10 minute limit to this fight, and Steal has a five minute job ability timer, so the first Steal attempt needs to occur immediately upon entering the arena if there is any hope for there to be enough time for a second chance if Steal fails (which it often will).

  • If Steal is attempted without alternate preparation for a full melee fight, this is an all-or-nothing shot and the player should not expect to survive through the job ability timer. Plan on using some form of re-raiser (Scroll, Potion, Earring, or Hairpin), rest until the job ability timer expires and reattempt immediately before the event timer expires.

  • Maximize your stealing skill (Steal+) and equip quested Artifact (AF) gear (Rogue's Armlets -- +1, Rogue's Bonnet -- +1, Rogue's Culottes -- +1, Rogue's Poulaines -- +2) along with anything else you can find that improves stealing like Thief's Kote -- +3 (replaces Rogue's Armlets), Rabbit Charm -- +1, Rogue's Ring -- +3 (effect active when HP is 75% or lower) and Key Ring Belt -- +1 (all of these items are available at 70 or lower).

  • Only items that modify Steal will influence the chance of success or failure of the Job Ability ... the results are not affected by frequency of use (cannot be "skilled up") nor by any other modifier (STR, DEX, INT, and so on). While there are items above Level 70 that modify Steal, the player cannot wear them without having previously beaten Maat and broken the level limit. (A successful Steal will not end the fight if the player has previously beaten Maat on another job).

>>> Melee Fight <<<

  • Cap your skills for your level, particularly Dagger and Evasion and consider capping Parrying and Shield.
  • Use food -- Squid Sushi (HP +20, Accuracy +15%) and Persikos Au Lait (Regen 4 hp/tick and effect lasts 10 minutes = 800 HP)
  • Use equipment -- Opo-Opo Necklace, Blink Band, Spartan Hoplon (optional - casts Phalanx), Bomb Core / Fire Bomblet / Viking Shield (Attack+)
  • Stock up on medicines - Icarus Wing and Potions -- Vile Elixir (restores 25% HP), Vile Elixir +1 (restores 55% HP), Max-Potion, X-Potion, Hi Potion, Potion (consider using the NQ, +1, +2 or +3 versions). Carry as many potions as you feel you need and macro their use.
  • Equip as much Accuracy+ and Strength+ gear you can find. Macro in any gear that will increase Sneak Attack effectiveness.

>>> Battle Plan <<<

  • Equip your weapon(s) and the Opo-Opo Necklace, Sleep Potion x 4 (or Mary's Milk x 2) for 100% TP (do not change weapons or you will lose your TP).
  • Use Reraise, Blink, Phalanx, Squid Sushi and Persikos Au Lait.
  • Approach, use Sneak Attack, and then attack Maat from behind
  • After the first hit, immediately use Dancing Edge
  • Consume Icarus Wing (to regain 100% TP). This will give a Medicated Status Effect for two hours.
  • After gaining 100% TP, immediately use Dancing Edge. If this is done rapidly enough, it will cause a self skill chain resulting in additional damage from a Detonation effect.
  • Evaluate the situation ... If the player is in the yellow for HP, attempt Steal for best effect (Rogue's Ring is active under 75% HP) and then use a HP+ Potion.
  • After the second Dancing Edge, Maat should have used either Perfect Dodge or Asuran Fists. If Asuran Fists, use Perfect Dodge and then Flee until his Perfect Dodge wears off.
  • Re-engage Maat and build TP to 100% and use the third and final Dancing Edge.
  • At this point Maat should give up if he hasn't already.

  • An alternate strategy is to skill up Marksmanship and use Ranged Attack and land Sleep Bolts, particularly while Maat is under the effect of Perfect Dodge. This will give the player the chance to execute one or more additional Sneak Attack(s) while Maat is asleep. (Note: If you equip the Bomb Core or Fire Bomblet in the ammo slot for Attack+, be sure to macro in a safety to unequip the item before executing the Ranged Attack to avoid actually throwing the hard-to-get / expensive Attack+ item at Maat and losing it permanently.)

  • Be sure not to change weapons until after the second Dancing Edge otherwise you will waste the benefits of the Opo-Opo Necklace and the Icarus Wing.

White Mage

White mage? Solo a tough guy like Maat? Well, fortunately, White Mages don't have to actually beat Maat either. You must simply take a certain amount of damage from him and survive. (how much? It appears to be random from what I've seen, best hope you get the low end of the range). Some re-equipping will be in order here. Now you must equip yourself for defense. Some items of note are phalanx rings, earth staff (Ask your paladin friend if you can borrow his. ^^), and bat earrings. Drink a blind potion to give yourself +30 evasion from the bat earrings (you won't be actually attacking so being blinded makes no difference). Bring along a couple bottles of Yagudo drink, plenty of healing potions, some echo drops and a fish chiefkabob (heh, eating tank food. Never thought you'd see the day?) Now, when you enter, cast all your buffs. Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Aquaveil and Blink and then rest back to full. (you need all your MP for healing so don't waste it recasting these if they wear off). Eat your food and blind yourself then use Yagudo drink and Regen III on yourself. Now cast Paralyze on Maat to get his attention (if it actually sticks, great! But don't fret if it doesn't) Maat should be hitting you for two digit damage so you should have no trouble keeping your HP up. Don't actually attack him, that gives him more TP which is not good. Don't spam lower cures, wait for HP to get somewhat low and use high end cures. More HP for your MP. Basically, you're doing what a paladin would do. But if you're a taru, mind you don't use cures that heal for more HP than you have either. Don't try to enfeeble Maat and only Cure, Silence, or Paralyze if they are cast on you. If all goes smoothly, you likely won't need Benediction but it's good to keep in mind if Maat gets lucky shots in and you need healing NOW. Just keep taking hits and healing them and Maat will eventually give up.

Black Mage

Do this right, you'll win easy. For good measure, get your INT as high as possible with food and equips. Enter Area, cast your favourite ancient spell, quickly use elemental seal-sleep II on Maat before he can retaliate. Now get him with another ancient spell while he's asleep. Now, bind him so he can't smack you around for nuking him and fire off a regular elemental spell (best one you have). That should finish him off. If all goes well, Maat will never get a shot off at you. ^^

Red Mage

Very commonly considered the hardest of all the Maat fights and for good reason. Chainspell in the hands of an enemy is never a good thing and this time, you don't have the chainspell-stun solution to fall back on. I guess the best defense against a master of cheatery is another master of cheatery. ^^; What's a red mage to do? Luck plays a big role in this fight so say your prayers before doing this. First and foremost, get a wind staff. You'll need it. Get your INT as high as you possibly can, every last point counts. Enter, dash towards Maat, dispel and sleep him immediately. While he's asleep, cast your own buffs, and dispel any and all he has on himself. Nuke Maat with Aero III until you're out of MP, convert, heal youself back up with hi-potions. Now the big guns. Chainspell aero III as fast as you can, Maat will do the same. Chainspell should finish him off. If it doesn't, continue to nuke and hope it's enough. Good luck!

Paladin

Time to show Maat who's the real defender of truth and justice! Mwa ha ha!! (Yes, I'm a paladin. How'd you guess?) Like white mage, some changes in equipment is in order here. You'll want damage dealing equipment instead of tanking but keep the sword and shield, you'll need them. Bring along an Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions, vile elixer or two, yagudo drink and meat mithkabob. Now, when you enter the arena, do the usual routine. Sleep yourself to 100% TP, drink your drink, eat your eats, cast your buffs and move in. Use Sentinel as soon as you engage Maat and then use Rampart when that runs out. Like warrior and monk, use your best WS right off the bat, use the icarus wing and then immediatly hit Maat again with another WS to get some good early damage. But watch out! If he flashes you right away, hold off the WS until the blindness wears off. Now, duel Maat, healing yourself along the way and shield bashing him if he tries to cast Banish III. Maat will eventually use invincible, flash him and kite him when he does this. (don't disengage, that takes too long. Just push L3 to break targeting and run around the room) Just try to stall until Maat's Invincible runs out. If you get a chance to nuke him, do so but watch your MP. When his invincible runs out, now it's your turn! Activate your own invincible and fearlessly charge back in! Attack Maat mercilessly and take this chance to heal yourself up with items. (wouldn't it just rock if Maat used Asuran fists right now? Heh heh!) By the time invincible runs out, you should have another WS ready. Use it and hopefully it will finish him off. If it doesn't, hopefully you brought enough medicine to hold your ground until another WS is ready.

Dark Knight

This is a pretty straightforeward fight actually but it's very important to carry lots of hi-potions and macro them. You'll be using a lot. Like the other melees, use an Opo-opo necklace, sleep yourself to 100% TP, use ws, icarus wing, ws right away. Use def or atk food, your choice. Most of your spells won't be very effective against Maat so don't bother. Just focus on hacking Maat up good. (but always hope he wastes turns using stupid spells like Absorb-CHR) Drain might come in handy but I wouldn't bank on it. Use your hi-potions to keep up your HP as you fight and your attack up skills should be done at your own discretion. The biggest threat is Blood Weapon. When Maat activates it, push L3 to break target lock and run around the room to reduce the number of times he attacks you. You DON'T want him regaining lost HP. once his blood weapon runs out, activate your own take back some of the punishment he's dealt you. (if your HP are still in good shape, this wouldnt' be a bad time to use souleater too) Use WS when they're ready and you should be okay as long as you are ready for anything Maat throws at you. Just beware not to use Guillotine when soul eater is activated or you could very well end up digging your own grave.

Ranger

Another fairly straightforward fight. Only thing to take note of is that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right away or in retaliation to a WS. Moral: if he hasn't used Eagle Eye Shot yet, be careful not to use a ws if you haven't got the HP to take it. Your best bet is to try and tempt him to use it right away while you're still at full HP. Use Shadowbind so he can't melee attack you (and thus possibly use Asuran Fists). Other than that, do the usual Opo-opo necklace sleep to 100% TP, icarus wings and stock up on hi-potions. Fill him up full of firepower and be done with it. A Tracker's Earring helps.

Beastmaster

Not too hard. Bring along a Panzer Ghalad for this fight along with the usual Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions and some def up food (I personally like fish chiefkabobs as a dedicated tank but it's up to you). Okay, sleep yourself to 100% TP, summon your pet and sic it on Maat while you fight Maat's pet but don't use your WS on Maat's pet, that's for Maat himself. once you kill Maat's pet, run out of range, heal yourself back up with hi-potions and let your pet fight Maat to the death. Now run in and hit Maat with rampage. That should send him packing. (as for your 2hr, I suspect using it will prompt Maat to use his as well which could give you trouble. If you don't need to use it, then don't. No need to risk it)

Bard

Max out your sword level for this as Spirits Within will be your best friend here. Bring along the usual melee stuff, Opo-necklace, sleep potions, hi potions along with def food and a stack of Selbina milk. When you enter the arena, watch Maat and see what he's buffing himself with. Eat your food, sleep yourself to 100% Tp and then use your icarus wing which should bring you up to 200% (yeah, little different set up this time). Now, drink your Selbina milk. This is your "finale blocker." If Maat finales you, it will remove the milk effect instead of your songs. Drink another milk if Maat finales you. Use soul voice along with your best songs. Now, use finale on Maat if he has any potentially threatening buffs on (that's why I said to watch what he does when you enter.) and debuff him. Now, hit him with Spirits Within for a strong early hit. Now it's just a matter of fighting him, using WS as they come up. Finale any buffs Maat puts up and drink milk if he finales you.

Samurai

Get ready to amaze even yourself with some fancy WSing. Bring along a few pear au lait, meat mithkabob and some hi-potions. Enter the burning circle and use meditate, making sure to wait for it to recharge before you enter to confront Maat. When you enter, use third eye and use your food and drink. Now, use the following skills: Tachi: Yukikaze > Meikyo Shisui > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Meditate > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Gekko. After the smoke clears, simply continue to duel Maat, drinking potions to keep health up and drink another pear au lait when the first one runs out.

Ninja

Cast Utsusemi: Ni, sleep yourself to 100% and eat your food as normal. The biggest threat is Maat's 2hr for which you must keep your HP above 700 in preparation for. Enter the arena. Maat will have Utsusemi: Ni on so don't unleash your WS until you've killed his shadows. Hit Maat with Blade: Chi or ten then proceed to Paralyze, Slow and Blind Maat. At all times, keep your HP above 700 so Maat's 2hr doesn't kill you. Once that's past, it's straightforward from there on.

Dragoon

Bring along a fish chiefkabob, a stack of hi potions, sleep potions and some Selbina milk. Use the sleep potions and Opo-necklace to get your TP up like always. Summon your wyvern and use your food and drink. Now, engage Maat and hit him five times or so and he will summon his wyvern. By this time, you should have 100% TP. Penta thrust Maat's wyvern but don't change targets, this will prompt your wyvern to breath on Maat. Jump and high jump, hit Maat a few times then use super jump and then immediatly break target and turn away from Maat (so you're engaged still but not attacking Maat). Maat and your wyvern will be locked in battle and with some luck, your wyvern will finish him off for you. If it doesn't, turn around and take him out yourself. He should be near death by now.

Summoner

Short fight but it's all or nothing. When you enter, use Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor on yourself and get your MP back to full before confronting Maat and drink a Yagudo drink. Bring out whichever avatar is strongest on the current day (or Fenrir if you have him) and immediately use Astral Flow, refill your MP with ethers quickly and use Astral Flow again as soon as it's ready. That should take out Maat. If Maat uses Astral Flow himself, you will not survive. You simply have to be quicker at the draw, nothing more to it.

So is Howling fist better against Maat than Dragon Kick? Cause ive died twice so far. I'm gonna try sleep my TP to like 200-300 depending on how long it takes, and boost att really high, use blink band, mithkabob, dragon kick, iquaris wing, 2 hour, dragon kick. then dragon kick everytime tp is 100. Gonna wear lots of rubbish gear when i go in, with coral rings -18 acc, and a club so his att is really low and probably stumbling sandles.
key to victory against Maat

1st- get yourself as close to next lvl as possible..within 500tnl before you fight maat
2nd- go do an escort quest and get yourself a scroll to use..DO NOT USE YET... set scroll to macro to use while fightn maat
3rd- do what everyone else has said..opo-opo-sleep all the rest blah..blah..blahh.. and then while you are fightn maat when your hp is half..use the escort scroll.. you will gain the next lvl up and your hp will be 100%
4-you might also have to use 1-2 hi-potions but i doubt it..
5-you win "Maat Masher"
6- make sure you are no more then 500 tnl b/c escort scroll is anywhere from 600-1300xp
hope this helps everyone who needs it

You get the title "Maat Masher" after beating him, but it changes when you go back and talk to him to complete the quest.

I am Grencye of Gilgamesh and have fought this guy four times already...can't win, I've used the best strategies and changed them accordingly each time, but each time I'm met with the same onslaught near the end. An infinite barrage of Asuran Fists until I die. I taped all my fights just because I thought it'd be a fun idea, but I'm not having any fun at all. I use Vampire Drinks, a Pescatora for food, in the last run I brought 19 Hi Potions, A few Hi Ethers to quickly regenerate my MP after Protect IV and Shell III before starting the fight, an icarus wing, and a Vile Elixer. I had abandoned the Opo-opo necklace idea because it wasted too much time and I got ejected fromt he field once, though that time I brought myself too high thinking the time was actually 30 mins.

In the last run I brought all the items I said I brought, buffed myself accordingly and followed my plan. Eat one of his Asuran Fists when he reached 1/3 HP then immediately Invincible and use Vile Elixer. My plan didn't work out as wonderfully as I had hoped. The previous fight I had survived an Asuran fists and not expecting him to immediately do another WS I was heading for a Cure IV, and he popped out another one and ended my third try. That's where the plan came from so I expected a few more Asuran Fists.

The time of 1/3 HP comes and he unleashes his first Asuran Fists, I immediately spam my Invincible Macro until the ability activates. As soon as I get the invincible off he unleashes another, and I had hoped that had been the end and I'd have it easy from there, of course I began the healing plan. So I healed until I was good and continued to fight. To my dismay the entire time I was invincible he continously spammed Asuran Fists, over, and over, and over, and over. My thirty seconds of invincibility ended and he caught me again with his 10th Asuran Fists, paused for a moment just to Maat Bash me and prevent me from using one of my many Hi-Potions, then finished me off with his 11th Asuran Fists.

This unfairness in the fight severely pisses me off. I can't see a way to beat a man who intends to end my chance of victory by spamming his best Weapon Skill until I'm dead. The man does not use TP, somehow he can unleash this attack as many times as he so desires. Instead of Vorpal Blading over and over I decided I'd like to snatch him once with a Spirits Within at full health, which I always do, I don't wast much TP gain doing this and it takes a huge chunk of his HP. I don't know if this could trigger his insanity or not, but this quest is just about going to make me quit the game with its absolute unfairness and impossibility.

No PLD can do a Weapon Skill that many times in a row, and no PLD can defeat something like that, no matter what. I've watched videos, Caligo, for instance, and the old man simply uses Howling Fist on him, for 200 or so damage, but he refuses to allow me passed 70 and massacres me with a barrage of Asuran Fists. I'm not exaggerating the number of Asuran Fists he dealt me, I rewound the video tape and counted them, he let out 11 Asuran Fists and I"m sure he wouldn't have stopped until I died.

Please if anyone can help me...tell me why he won't let me win...I would appreciate the help...this just doesn't seem fair...

grr im an idiot....
anyways what i mean to say is, use a VILE ELIXIR. this restores 75% hp and mp! a regular and a +1 can used the same fight, don't be shy about the time it takes to use. it's about as long as a hi-potion. just stun it or w/e and use this to save ur *** n give u the energy u need. they're costly but hey, this has worked for 3 ppl in my LS... a dark knight, a samurai, and a red mage.
do yourself a favor, save some time n anguish n bring one of each the nq n the hq with u.
go ahead, go use it n see ! =)
and you're welcome ^^
Black Mage Maat Fight

Just beat Maat yesterday, I think I got it all figured out...

1. Max out your elemental, dark, & enfeeble stats

2. Max out your intellegence (equipments + food)

3. Go on a Darkday so your dark spells will more likely stick

4. Get a Reraiser Scroll

5. Bring food & drink like melon pie & yagudo drink

6. Optional: Stoneskin Torque and Blink Bend

I recommend going to BCNM completely unequipped, then re-equip once you are in. Put up your reraiser scroll, eat your food, and maybe even elemental spikes then med up. Cautiously walk toward the entrance to the BC and camp at the very edge where you can barely cast spell. Do your strongest ancient elemental spell, immediatly followed by Elemental Seal and Sleep II. While Maat is asleep, you can eithter med up a little or do a yagudo drink or both. Next you can cast another ancient elemental spell and then Stun to interrupt Maat's first retalieating spell. Finally, you Manafont and cast your other strongest elemental spell (except Stone spells). Maat should be finished at that point ^^

In the event where you need to actually use your reraiser, try to get up early while your Manafont is still in effect and hit him with your strongest elemental spell. I heard Maat will not attack you from far away as you raise yourself.

Maat fight isn't really hard for Black Mage. Rather, getting Black Mage testimony is much more challenging and painful. Special thanks to Lordac and Veranuiz of Ifrit Server who patiently helped me farming countless Yagudo's at Castle OZ for my testimony. Thank you...
QUESTION!!! (please help!) for WHM Maat
# Nov 10 2005 at 3:13 PM Rating: Decent
OK - a few questions:
1) does damage absorbed by stoneskin count toward damage taken to "beat" him?
2) If to win, you need to take a certain amount of damage, wouldn't you want LOWER evasion and LOWER defense so that you can hurry along, take your damage, and cure yourself(with spells and potions incase of interupt / low MP), and be done with it?? (that's what would make sense to me). And I would rather find this out before I spend all my money on potions and food ^^;
RDM aero4?
# Nov 08 2005 at 3:53 AM Rating: Decent
Since for some reason i can't reply to a certain post...Red Mage's don't have Aero4 so i hope that person means Aero3.

Anyway, i tried as RDM today(i knew i'd loose so don't worry about that). I went for evasion so i wouldn't get hit. I went in without anything on because of the rumormill. I think it's just a rumor because i have capped evasion(197 @ lvl68) plus the other evasion from gear which totaled to around 66-69. I have 2 bat earrings so i used a blind potion to get the 30 evasion out of them. Scorpion Harness, emp. hairpin, survival belt, spirit torque, nomad's mantle and light soleas...i believe that's all my evasion i had. Well, the 250 something evasion DID NOT help at all. I was still getting hit for 100+ dmg and died very quickly. As far as the rumor, I think it's false. I put my equipment on AFTER i got inside the BC and i was still pwned. I also have capped elemental magic and i think thunder2 hit for 93 dmg. I did get a sleep2(with all evasion gear)on but when i switched to my RDM AF/INT, sleep2 and sleep was resisted resulting in my defeat. I used an ICE staff for the 4 INT and for the boost in Elemental Magic but didn't help at all. Did i mention the Moldavite Earring is still over camped? I'll try again some other time when i feel like soloing Ruby Quadav for a testimony.

Well congz to me for finalling beating him. I went 1/7 against him before finalling beating him. The way that I did it was I went in with everything equiped. I took 2 yag drinks, a marron glace, 4 hi-potions, I only used 1 yag drink and and marron glace. Once I got inside i rushed Maat and put him to sleep. I then cast stoneskin, blink, and shell4 on me. Used yag drink then rested, he woke up once and I put him back to sleep to get my self over 600Mp. Once that was done I stood up and used 2 hour. Hitting Aero 4 a couple of time getting below 100mp. Then I put him back to sleep and Converted and Cure 4 my self. I had about 400+hp and continued to cast Aero 4 until he was dead. Hope this might help any other Rdm defeat him faster then I did. Level 75 here I come.

I fought Maat and finally won a few nights ago. I was so shocked; I was a level 67 SAM.

I went in, Meditated, used blink band, waited for timer to wear down on Meditate, used a Persikos au Lait, and went in. I had SAM AF armor and a Kazaridachi, used a Tonosama Rice Ball for food.

Being a Mithra, I don't have a whole lot of STR. Sun Rings definitely helped. Mithra do a bit less damage with our weaponskills because of that, which kinda peeves me a little.

I had tried the whole Yukikaze > Gekko Fragmentation skillchain thing, but decided against relying on Fragmentation Fragmentation Fragmentation, because the damage done from even Level 1 weaponskills adds up, and I needed to skillchain as often as I could to win.

I went in, drew my Kazaridachi, and swing (and missed). I used Tachi: Gekko, which made him two hour. He used Combo, I used Meikyo Shisui and Tachi: Yukikaze to create an Induration skillchain. Blink held up after Combo, but Spinning attack ate the rest of it. Upon him using Spinning Attack, I used Meditate and Third Eye, and the timing couldn't have been better because he used Tackle a split second after Third Eye. Tachi: Gekko caused Fragmentation for a huge amount of damage (between the WS and SC, over 900 points of damage). Not even thinking, I decided to use Tachi: Gekko again (repeating the previous SC pattern), and was shocked to see a Distortion skillchain. I didn't know at that time that you could do that--so I clearly got lucky. Finished off the bugger with a final Tachi: Yukikaze for the win. I had over 550 hp (out of 1100ish) remaining; the fighting itself taking only a scant 32 seconds. Too bad the preparation takes too long.

RDM Maat Fight: O
# Oct 09 2005 at 2:08 AM Rating: Decent
I won against Maat tonight, 1/5 as RDM. I would have had him the first time, but Chainspell wasn't up... I used it an hour before the fight and forgot about it. That fight was going perfect, too. >< None of my sleeps were resisted at all.

So my fifth time around, it was pretty much the same situation... Sleep II was only resisted once, and I quickly put a Sleep I on him even then. I was only able to get in two Aero IIIs and a Thunder II before converting because of having to cure myself when he did resist sleep. I gave him a Thunder II before Converting because I didn't want to waste the MP that I had, but I also wanted to have enough to resleep him.

Then after Converting, Cure IV'ing to full, and using a Pro-Ether, I slapped on Stoneskin, chainspelled, and hit him with four Aero IIIs before he gave up. He chainspelled and managed to get in a Fire II and Blink before I beat him, and he didn't Raging Fists me once.

I went in with my regular gear...
Red Cape
RK Knight Belt
Zircon Ring x2
All necessary elemental staves
Full AF except for Mithra RSE hand and leg gear
Moldavite and Cunning Earrings
Phantom Tathlum

I also went on darksday for Sleep. Some people say that Windsday is better, but being able to sleep Maat is really important. If you can't sleep him, you're pretty much screwed. All of my problems (except for the first one with chainspell...) are all from not being able to sleep him. And not freaking out when you can't, of course.

Honestly, if you can sleep Maat and if you have good MP, he's a pushover.

I'm not alone with new rules Maat fight as WHM
# Oct 05 2005 at 5:40 PM Rating: Decent
Hello!
In Unicorn server I'm not alone.
Another WHM had a timeout.
The best time is 9:33, and maybe he killed Maat
I verify how much damage I restored from Maat and give me the number of 2688 hp
One month ago the best time was 4:33 and I interview the guy.. he told me he used Hi-potions and he just run and evade Maat.

So if someone have Japanese friend or know someone.. please verify if they chaged the rules or just this a bug in Unicorn.
Or you must allowed Maat damage you X amount inorder to win.

The WHM I ask, tryed yesterday, and thought that maybe the MP restore of the buffer cause the time out.

Please help me out!

Hello!,
I did the battle with Maat, this is my second time, I survived, but I lose.
The first time I complete fail. I died.

What I did this 2nd:
Shield 4
Protect 4
eat Taco
/heal
Aquaveil
blink
stoneskin
haste
/heal
blind potion

Start attack Maat
Paralize
DiaII
Slow <- didnt affect him (maybe he copy all my effect on me)
X-potion
DS+Cure3
X-potion
Cure V
Paralize
Cure V
X-potion
etc..etc
Then I cast on him dia2..
And then
I got the message:
Your time in battlefield is up!.
The best time in Unicorn 9:33

So as I see maybe I didnt receive too much dmg, due I block every dmg with blink.. stoneskin was interrupted twice.
Also I lost 2min restoring my mp for the buffer.
So next time I need use ethers to recover mp, before attack Maat to extend time.

I called GM, and he told me that if this an ingame issue he cannot share any information.

So what suggest to do battle with Maat!

Regards

The idea for WHM Maat fight is to Cure a certain anount of damage Maat gives you. So you do not want to do Blink and Stoneskin.

i saw a post about this but i cant find it now :x anyway just to clarify things i went in with 300 tnl (70) and i used these in the BC got 1396 exp and hit level 70. so yes you can use these during the fight to get instant 100% HP regen. unfortunatly i failed maat with him being about 20% hp left, so i can't repeat this method unless i delevel and then exp within a suitable range again.

also from the quest description above, BST fight is not too tough but forget what this tell you, he can call pets much faster than 5 mins appart. the fight is 10 mins max and he called 4 pets on me. i would have managed this but i had 2 mins on my pet timer so i died. also he can 2hr when he feels like it, he did it to me so i decided to use mine too.

I am currently 0/3 on this basterd. However with the latest info i read about how maat has a "range" for the Blm fight i am happy.

i have my 4th testi in my palms. However this time i am going to be sure to test and use all my macroe's on reg. Mobs first....

This guy is really a pain, however i have made 100k so far in skill up parties to get my tests... Also this has enlightend me to some news... yes i know it may sound like Newbie talk, yet in order to beat maat it appears you have to do everything flawlessly... Perfect. Hmph i guess that what lvl 71-75 means... excellence in combat, not to make any mistakes.

This tad bit of info has seem to motivate myself a bit to be better then how i was... I am still the Horny Tarutaru that i am though!!!!

Sorry for any mispelt words and such><

Edit: Maat will run after u know matter what. i fought him 4 times and lost4 times, yet on the 5th try i bough a 50k blink band heres exactly what i did....

Enter battlefield with two earrings on... equip blink head gear, use the blink effect, equip all main gear, go up cast Burst, then cast Elemental seal, then Sleep2, then i run away, then i equip blink head gear, i erase old blink, i put up new blink, equip main gear, cast bind on maat, cast firaga III, cast stun, cast Stone IV, then with 174 hp i cast Aeroga III and kick his butt!!!

Please note all my skills were capped

I was bored, and I needed to beat Maat. So I figured I'd give it a shot. I grabbed my AF only and traded the testimony to him in Ru'lude Gardens. I was warped to the shrine where I had at least two chances to steal. I used a reraiser and healed up. When I had full health, I ran up and SATA him. I then attempted to steal and BAM!! first attempt was successful. I couldn't beleive it, after all the horror stories I've heard about Maat. I'm 1/1 on Maat. I was very happy.

I know that there are countless posts on the Black Mage Maat fight. Most give you a good formula for a flawless fight. This is not one of those. I had two very flawed fights before I won and the following is what I learned from these. I am not going to go into any much detail because the equipment I used is at best average BLM gear at level. Here is a link to my equipment profile. As far as my ability, I consider myself a competent BLM. I make mistakes sometimes. On rare occasions my party wipes as a result. I learn from it and cannot recall making the same fatal error more than once. I have been in a static party since I was level 58 with no change in members so I rely on a play style suited for them. This has probably stunted my reaction time and quick thinking, but this is only noticed by me really.

The First Fight
I was two or three thousand experience points into 70 after losing about five thousand in Dynamis recently. I then deleveled to 69 because I read a somewhere Maats magic skills will be capped regardless of whether yours are or not. This lowered my skill caps across the board which made my still uncapped enfeebling skill almost to the cap. The first fight was a disaster. I went in naked because I had read in some posts that Maat's stats are set to mirror yours when you enter the fight. I had macros ready. All attack macros were <bt> to make targeting fool-proof. I had macros for X-Potoin for emergency HP. I went in and ate food and rested until mp full. I ran to circle and at about the peak of the ridge that surrounds the circle I was able to cast Burst on Maat. I ran and he hit me for half of my hit points. Then a quick Elemental Seal and Sleep II and he was asleep. The Burst was resisted and only took off around 10-15% of his total hit points. I used X-Potions to restore my hp. Then I cast Flare on him. This was not resisted and left him with less than a third of his total hp. This is where things went wrong. After being awoken by Flare he started casting Firaga III on me. I cast bind which was resisted on him which was a mistake since I should have been Stunning him. Before I was able to cast Stun his bomb landed and I died. This fight showed me what I was up against. You can only learn so much from reading about the fight. I learned Maat hits very hard, he sleeps good, and bind may not stick.

The Second Fight
The next day I attempted the fight again. Same set-up. The fight started identical to the last one but instead of binding him after Flare I stunned him then bound him. I then tried to cast Aeroga III on him but was out of mp. he broke out of my bind and started to hit me. The first hit knocked my hp halfway down again. I restored my hp with X-Potions. My was hp almost full again and I totally forgot I had almost no mp left. Realizing this after a frantically hitting the Aeroga III macro a few times. He hit me again. I froze and didn't hit manafont. He hit me again. Now I was down to a sliver of hp. Then the final blow. This fight was late at night and reminded me to be more careful about mp and that although Maat hits very hard, his punches are slow.

The Victorious Third Fight
This time I changed a few things to my setup. I used a newly aquired Ice Ring. This ring gives a +15 elemental magic bonus on Iceday but at the cost of a -15% hit to your mp. I knew from twice before that he would most likely sleep well. This extra elemental magic skill will however help my bombs from being resisted and doing pitiful damage. To counter act this I bought an Icecap Rolanberry to eat which adds 18% to your mp and +2 INT. I also purchased a blink band to help handle any punches. I also had my X-Potions and a Yagudo Drink on me. I ate the food before I talked to Maat. I then realized this might give Maat an mp increase, but this wasn't really going to be an issue because all Maat really needs is enough mp for one or two spells to send me home defeated. I entered the circle with no equipment equipped again. Equipped on the inside and healed the small amount of mp I gained from putting on my gear. Then I activated my blink band. Now ready I ran to the circle. I cast Burst. It hits him for full damage! Maat now has only two thirds of his hp left. He got off one punch for zero damage thanks to the blink band. I quickly used Elemental Seal and Sleep II. Maat is asleep. At this point I sat to heal but then decided to hit him with a Flare. It hits for full damage too. Maat now has less than a third of his hp left. I hit Manafont without even checking my mp. I then cast Sleepga II on him and before he could damage me he is once again asleep. Then I cast Aeroga III on him. As soon as it hits before you can see his hp bar fall to 0 the fight is over. Five spells (Burst > Elemental Seal > Sleep II > Flare > Manafont > Sleepga II > Aeroga III) handed me the win without a single scratch. The blink band and possibly the added elemental magic skill was the key.

I hope this info helps any BLM having trouble with Maat. Oh, and by the way, I found that the best way to get a testament is to take a skillup party or alliance to Monastic Cavern. It shouldn't take long for a testament to drop from an Orcish Hexspinner. Good Luck!

So, I know we THF's get the 'easy way out' with steal, but, I decided to go the road less traveled. I melee'd THF Maat. Here was my setup:

Main Weapon: Hopilites Harpe
Shield: Royal Squire's Shield +1
Ranged: Long Boomerang
Head: Emp. Pin (Sneak Attack), Optical Hat (rest of the fight)
Neck: Spike Necklace
Earrings: Dodge Earringx2
Body: Blue Cotehardie (Sneak Attack), Scorpion Harness (rest of the fight)
Gloves: Rogue's Armlets (Sneak Attack), War Gloves (rest of the fight)
Rings: Deft Ringx2
Back: Nomad's Mantle
Belt: Life Belt
Legs: War Brais+1
Feet: Rogue's Poulaines

Additional Supplies:
12x Hi-Potion
12x Sleeping Potions (no singles in stock at AH)
Opo-Opo Necklace
Blink Band
Perisikos au Lait
Hi-Reraiser (got that in my Hakutaku fight)
Squid Sushi+1
Icarus Wing

Notes on equip choices:

I went with the Royal Squire's Shield for the Evasion, same with the Nomad's Mantle. I knew I would need ACC, so, I joined a O. Hat run last week. The Dodge Earrings are damn nice in there. THe AF Boots I went with for the better defense and more HP. And, lastly, my Marksmenship, while good, is not high enough for him, so I went with the cheap stat boost.

Strategy:

Went in nekkid. Quickly equiped my weapon, shield, ranged weapon, and Opo-Opo Necklace. Started drinking the Sleeping Pots, and equiping everything else. When that was done, I used the Blink Band, the Hi-Reraiser, the au Lait, and the Sushi+1. It was go time.

I ran towards him, making sure my equips were right. I hit SA on the path toward him (don't ask why, I still don't know.) Got behind him, and BAM, SA for 300. Quick switch to ACC equips, then Dancing Edge - Icarus Wing - Dancing Edge. That got a quick Perfect Dodge out of him (which is what I expected.)

I then waited for him to get through my shadows (he was missing a ton, thanks to capped Evasion). Once all 3 Shadows were down, and his Perfect Dodge was still up, I fired off Flee and kited him for about 15 seconds. Once I was sure I could hit him again, I went back to him, and started drinking Hi-Pots.

Quickly I realized I needed to 2 Hour to get back some health, so I do, and heal back up to near full. All the while, I could not see him cause I turned just a little too much. Once I notice that, I start hitting him again. He still has problems hitting me... I see my TP get to 100%, and fire off another Dancing Edge.

And, the old man stopped dancing. He was beated down. And, I won with over 900hp left.

While I am most defiately not the first THF to do this, I am still damn proud of this. To all you THF's out there, try to beat this geezer up!

Oh, and if ya wanna see the video, here it is!

hey dont waste money on blink band, opo necklace or whatever. i borrowed a blink band and bought x potions and i was all nervous and stuff. I broke the record with 2:58. and that was a joke because i only hit maat 3 times. I could have beat him naked. I meditated, waited for full tp, used blink band and went in. hit him with Yukikaze and 2hr macro that has /wait 3 gekko. then i just hit my gekko macro. so so simple.

Use the following skillchain to beat maat in 30 seconds tops:
yukikaze--> gekko = fragmentation --> gekko = distortion end of battle. I dont know why but he gave up when i did that.

Given that all your ws hit you can beat maat and have the record. ^^ Good luck.

If this skilchain and strategy has been posted allready then Please forgive me. ; ;
