Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 3 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find The Waughroon Kid, a Goobbue type mob.

  • Besides the normal Goobbue tp moves, The Waughroon Kid's melee attacks have the possibility of inflicting Gravity effects, as well as possessing the Counterstance ability.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, The Waughroon Kid must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

Because of the short time frame that is present in order to defeat The Waughroon Kid, damage is top priority.

Paladin, Melee x2 Setup

This strategy involves a Paladin and two heavy DD'ers. Once the Paladin buffs himself, have him run in first and draw hate on The Waughroon Kid. Once the Paladin has hate, have the melee run in and begin attacking it from its back (as to avoid Counterstance) and then have the Paladin use Invincible. At this time, have the melee perform their respective two hours and push their damage, making certain to take advantage of the massive Defense drop that Counterstance produces on The Waughroon Kid.

Beastmasterx3 Setup

This strategy involves three Beastmasters (at least two of which should sub Ninja), Seedbed Soil jug pets for calling out Funguar Familiar pets, and Pet Food Zeta for Reward.

Once inside the battlefield, call out the Funguars and send them at The Waughroon Kid, and then move in behind it before beginning to melee. Use your weaponskills as often as possible (especially when it uses Counterstance), though make sure that the Funguars maintain hate, and use the Zeta pet food whenever it's needed.

Ive tried this several times recently with galka-pld/war, taru-mnk/war, mithra-drg/war (me). Its really not all that tough.
on the last run, about 5 minutes before we entered the BC, the mnk accidentally used her 2hr. I ened up having an extra icarus wing that i loaned out to her in case it was needed. Well the pld knew we were short a 2hr so he tried to last as long as possible without using his 2hr. Well he wasnt fast enough when TWK got in a critical and dropped him. When the pld went down, the mnk used the wing and I popped my 2hr but becuase i somehow managed to miss both my jump and high jump this time (never missed on either before) i was still ~10% short of 100 TP. I immedately jumped and high jumped again (thanks to the 2hr resetting jump timers) and was making my move to WS when TWK got another critical and dropped the mnk before she could get her second WS in. My WS landed and i was able to take him out with the next swing.

Over all it was pretty poorly executed, we hadn't really planned well for emergencies and 2 of us died, yet we were able to win with only 1 of us using our 2hr and we still had 45 seconds to spare. We've got a formula that seems to work, and i dont intend to change it, but yesterday's results seem to indicate 3 good DD's with a potion or 2 each could pull this off, and a group of 2DD and a PLD might be able to pull it off without 2hrs with the use of a couple hi-pots.

I really want these gauntlets for a couple of jobs in using. It looks like pupx2 + pld can do it easily. Now the hard thing is finding another reliable pup =/
Still kicking myself...

I did this about a month ago with a couple guys shouting for help with it in Jeuno. We headed out, me (pld50/war25) a (blm50/whm25) and a (war50/nin25) the first time the blm used his seals, and we buffed up. the fight ended and we hadn't even touched the mob... apparently no one realized it was a 3 minute battle.

next time we rushed the Kid, blm and War both used 2 hrs, and we killed him in 2 mins 50 seconds. Finger Gauntlets dropped, and the war and blm split the loot.

So the last time it was my seals. I felt it was fairly obvious we couldn't do it w/out mighty strikes and manafont, but they insisted they couldn't wait 2 hours. So we went in, got the mob to about 40%, and of course, the battle ended. There goes my 50 seals...

So the moral of the story is, if you do BCNM fights with strangers, just remember they don't give a crap what happens in your fight. or else you'll end up like me: kicking myself for months because i couldn't convince my comrades to wait 2 hours.
is this thing on?
# Oct 06 2006 at 11:20 PM Rating: Default
From what I've heard this thing isn't tankable by anything thats not a PLD using invincible, but a decent 3x rdm build all chainspelling can supposedly obliterate it.

Don't try 3x drg/mage , you might get lucky but I doubt it...he hits too fast, too hard, and uses tp moves too frequently for your healing breath to make ANY difference.

I think the ideal setup would be pld, mnk, mnk or pld, sam, sam.

I also think that if you can afford it(even if you're a sam) that everyone should bring an iccy wing.(even pld, a ws is still a ws)

If you plan on doing this repeatedly...well, don't.

Best bet is to have 3 people with three orbs, and do the BCNM once a day for 3 days. Then sell off all the loot and divide profit by 3 and that will be everyone's cut.

Pld,war,Sam *should* work too, but IMO war should definately have an iccarus wing. With meditate and Meikyo Shisui sam could unload 4 ws's in this fight from that alone. assuming its not dead by then, they could tp up for a 5th.
War on the other handcould tp up for 1 ws and 2h it(spinning axe is most likely your best bet) But with an iccarus thrown in you could do 2 2h'd ws's.
The drops from this are all somewhat valuabke which should offset the cost of iccy wings...though arguably they may not be that important.

I still think pld and 2x sam would be better though, if you timed it right the sam could continually SC for added damage(there are sc's that theoretically never stop) However, the damage from certain ws is so low that it might be better to spam enpi or jinpu. Heh. Dunno, I'm not a sam. I'm a drg.

Ok Looked easy and fun and easy to find 2 others instead of 5 others for a BCNM. I went as PLD with pretty good gear. I read how a PLD SAM and BLM do it easily and PLD and 2 strong melee (SAM MNK WAR) can melee it just fine also.

I got two other SAM thinking 8 Weapon Skills would do, well pretty damn good damage. But we lost as I only lasted all of 35 to 45 seconds before i was dead.

Went in, Protect III, no shell cause i didnt think i needed it, tav taco, ran in voke, flash, 2hr, pop a refresh juice and began fight. SAM came in did there thing knocked it down to about 50% to 55% hp and i proceeded to cast Cure III and regen juice. Nothing happened and notice at the top of my screen with all my effects i had two stuns on me. I went down and the SAM's followed. It happened so fast. Again, about 35 to 45 seconds and we were dead.

Is there something I am missing? May be while before i get a post back but will keep my eye open. Thanks.

Actually, your mistake was using PLD 2 hour immediately.

I did this with my roommates a few months ago and we went 3/3. I was PLD49, and my roommates were a MNK and a RDM. We started the fight as a normal fight. The RDM cured me, I cured myself, and tanked as it was normal. When the Goobbue gets down a little bit on HP, it starts attacking a lot faster. That's when you have to hit your Invincible. If you hit Invincible at the very start, it's attacking normally and it's a waste because you can cure yourself like it's a normal fight at that point...and then when it wears off, it's in the quick attacking phase so you can't cure yourself and you'll just go down pretty quickly. Hold your Invincible until you notice it attacking quicker, and victory will come.

I know why i got pwned after posting. I didnt use Defender or Sentinel once. Blm is good to have as they can cast a Cure III at you if you are stunned. Done it 3 times, as first was a failed attempt with my seals, won a second time only to get about 300k in goods that sell slow and lost while helping someone else on their run. Two uppercut WS back to back almost for 300damage hurts. And blm got silenced at some point. Still not a bad BCNM, just if you take a blm make sure they stand at maximum casting range to avoid any unexpected situation.

Did this BC last nite we went 9/9 didnt lose once. we did it the 3 bst way. we all went bst/nin used funguar jugs super easy fast fight our fastest was 1min57sec our slowest was 2min 15sec. out of the 9 runs we got 2 spikes finger gaults that go for 1.8M ea, 1super ribbon 500K, 3sly gaults 400K ea, and 2 intel torqs 1M each on bahamut server. so we made a good amount of gil from this bc and had a great time doing it.

I couldn't believe how easy this was. I got picked up for it while doing my own Royal Jelly runs. I only had level 40 samurai gear.

We went in as pld, war, sam. After the second voke I used meditate > WS > meiko shisui > ws > ws > ws as our WAR used mighty strikes. Beat it in 1 min. 59 secs.

In other words, this BCNM is cake as long as you have a paladin and at least one DD that can do good burst damage with his 2 hr.

BLM Strategy
# Jul 02 2006 at 2:27 PM Rating: Decent
As several people have posted interest in a BLM strategy for this, but nobody posted having tried it. I got a couple friends together and attempted it.

We got all our Lv 50 cap equipment together and setup up macros, bought Yag drinks and headed out.

The plan was to 3x Elemental Seal + Freeze to open the battle. We figured this would nearly kill him as it was posted that he had 2700HP.

This is where we hit our first problem. Even with Elemental Seal, we were resisted for an average of 350 dmg each. This also only dropped the mob to about 75%. That would make his HP closer to around 4000HP.

We slept him and were trying to re-group and attempt another round of nukes. Thats when we noticed that he had some insane regen going on. A few seconds later he was back up to 95%. And I mean a few seconds, as I only had time to run to max casting range before he had HP back.

Needless to say, we all died. Also, on a side note, all buffs wear off when you enter this BCNM including Reraise. ~_~

First of all, the timer starts as soon as you get into the BCNM, NOT as soon as you engage.

Hearing other people saying this, my party buffed up, (which, due to the fact we thought we could rest, we thought was just protective measures incase) then when we went in to attack, we got kicked out after about 30 seconds or so, 50 seals wasted. We probably would have easily killed him as well, because I only got in two attack rounds in and he was down to about 85% health.

When you get in, there is NO timer to indicate what time is left.

The PLD tank was taking about 70-80 points a hit, about 200 dmg on a beatdown (which he used very fast.) and shield blocked twice for about 10-20 a hit, which was strange. Also, kiting, if it is your strategy, might be impossible. I noticed on the third hit our paladin had the additional effect, weight added to him.

Anyways, I hope you find this information useful, so you don't ***** up like us. We're going to try again because no one on our team got a chance to 2hour, except me, but its bloodweapon, so it will make a very little difference.

ok I just did this again with the same setup and the same people, it went exactly the same except this time the sam forgot to use berserk so it barely surivived our weapon skills but then my wyverns breath killed it and I got a bunch of crap and 2 ivorry mits worth 200k each on my server so it kinda sucked but w/e oh and it we got exactly 2 minutes :) lol
smns can do this too
# Apr 07 2006 at 2:15 AM Rating: Default
This fight is possible w/3 smns. You first have buffs in the beginning, rest if you need to. You can actually rest too. The clock doesn't start until you engage.

the moment you enter, each of you use 2 hours. attack the nm w/ regular attacks at first to keep up hate, and then...only one of you casts your blood pact move. The avatar gains hate and the nm kills it fast. The smn rests and gains mp back. Which ever avatar attacks, that avatar releases its bloodpact @ 1/2 life. that way, there's enough hate to keep off of smns. Afterwards, that avatar dies and the nm turns to the last on.

By this time, the first smn has enough mp to do it again. recast and bring in avatar. The third one blood pacts and dies and then the last avatar stays up for a while. When the 2nd one gains enough mp and recasts...hits a while, release another bloodpact. by this time, he should be dead.

This is the safeguard way to fight. In total, you might be doing 3-4 two hour bloodpacts. It doesn't work if you all do it at the same time becasue the nm is still alive and one of you is most likely to die.

This fight will be 2:15 minutes at fastest in safeguard. It's possible to clear this one in less time, but i still prefer this method.

I'm wondering if I could manaburn this thing with 2 other blms. Heres the plan. Food would be Wizard Cookies and Yag Drinks. 1 blm ES+Sleep then him and 2nd blm will freeze it. Then 3rd ES+Sleeps it wait for other 2 to gain mp back. Then after that, all 3 Freezes it for the kill since it says on other posts that it has around 2700 HP. Anyone know if this could work? Thanks

I'd definitely open up with freezes first like the above poster said. Just remember to keep in mind that time is against you. I'd definitely suggest at least one BLM manafont (one with orb, so you can rotate). This way you could do the following:

1) BLM w/orb Manafont
2) 2x Freeze + 1 sleep
3) BLM w/Manafont cast another freeze
4) Remaining BLM cast highest level spells available

This may work I think. Good luck if you try it.

I imagine you can open with 2x Freeze instead of opening with ES sleep. Most the bcnm's I've done allow you to get within casting range without aggro.

Would be something like:
1) 2x Freeze + 1x ES Sleep
2) Then, depending on how much hp it still has, either do 3x highest level spells, or 2x highest level and use another ES sleep.
3) Repeat step 2.

Report back if you try it. ^^

Dunno what's different about him.. weve done this 3 times now.. It was supper easy the first time. PLD RNG BLM. pretty much 2hr and kick its face in.. however the last two times we have gone we can't even get down to 50% health.

Even with Ele Seal up it seems to only hit for about 400 MAX *even on Ice Day*. First time around Silver Bullets were hitting for about 120 a shot.. 2nd and 3rd time it was 45-50 a shot.. SharpshotBarrage hit for about 250 and EES did about the same.. PLD was hitting for about 10 - 20 a hit.

PLD had a really hard time staying alive due to this thing only having about a 150 Delay and hitting for about 110 a hit at first.. Each hit adds Def Down so the Hits start to get harder and harder..

We are going to go back and re-evaluate this but not really sure how its going to go..

The Waughroon Kid has about 2,700 HP, After the fight I added it up and it came out to 2,736. PLD is absolutely needed for this BC, as the NM hits surprisingly fast, and is a MNK too. He hits VERY. VERY. hard. on my SAM, he hit me for 220 dmg + per hit. Also, he has added effect: weight on some of his hits. We went with PLD/SAM/WHM. WHM holy/banish nuked,I (SAM) 2 hrd at the beginning, as did the PLD. His EVA is meh, with +12 acc + meat I hit about 70% of the time.

*note* this BCNM also drops Benign Necklace.

Our drops: 2,666G each
2x Tree Cuttings
Spiked Finger Gauntlets (4mil on bismarck)
Benign Necklace (2mil on bismarck)
Wisteria Lumber
And something else, I believe.

Hope this helps^^
SMN gets kicked out
# Mar 16 2006 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
I used my 2hour and attacked with Judgement Bolt, then I get kicked out of the battlefield as soon as it is hit for 400 damage.

WTF!? Why can't I use my 2hour!? Doesn't that void the ability for SMNs to do any good in here? That is unfair! I want my seals back. Better yet, I want a decent reward or gil for being a victim.

edit: Nvm about the decent reward, GMs will never do that. In this case, I just want my orb renewed.

Just did this tonight with two LS mates, and we broke the record on Valefor.

Setup:
PLD(me)
WAR
SAM

We took this pretty seriously, so we prepped big time. I bought 4 hi-potions, 1 yag drink, 1 persikos au liat, and a tav taco. SAM and WAR used sole sushi I believe. SAM also had an icarus wing. We buffed up everything as fast as we could, I ran in voke/flash/shield bash/sentinal/defender, and tossed myself a couple of cures before I had to 2hr. Once I did, others hit their two hours and the Kid dropped like a fly. We are going to do this again hitting 2hrs faster, mob doesn't stand a chance.

Ok I've done this a few more times, and once with a different set up.

With PLD/WAR/SAM:

I don't even need meds. Not even perskios or a yag drink. I just go in, once everyone gets in position, I 2hr. WAR and SAM follow my lead, SAM pops a icarus wing as well. We've broken our record twice more with this (best run 1:48). I'd be willing to bet we don't even need icarus wing, but it does make it faster.

With PLD/WAR/BLM:

Another LS mate wanted to go so we tried this. Little different strategy. I used perskios and yag drink to be safe, tanked until below 50% (mostly so WAR could build TP). Then I used Invincible, WAR & BLM 2hr and goes down right before Invincible wears (won in 2:48).

Drops:

I can confirm that you will ALWAYS get the following:

Equipment x 2
Tree Cuttings x 2
And Two of Items listed
2000-3000 gil

Also the same equip piece can drop twice. With the PLD/WAR/BLM set up we got two spiked finger gauntlets. Yes I am dead serious, we hit the jackpot and got two! This leads me to believe other equips will drop like this as well rarely.

Equipment we've gotten (through 4 runs):

Spiked Finger Gaunlets x2
Intellect Torque
Sly Gauntlets
Ivory Mitts x 2
Esoteric Mantle
Shock Mask

Least ammount of gil made on one orb: ~ 1 mil

Finished with the setup

MNK
PLD
BLM

We enter the BCNM, and rush him. PLD vokes and cures himself as thing big goobue pounds on him. It really does spam WS, no joke, seemingly ever 3rd hit it does is a WS. The pld went quickly into red because of this, and then as planned he 2hred which I followed up on with my 2hr hundred fists. From here we all-out-nuked it and it was destroyed very, very quickly. Our clear time set the record at 2Min 1Sec which is pretty quick. This is a BCNM which basically requires you to 2hr, but with the right setup provides very little resistance to completion.

Drops for our sole test run were decent, I guess. Sly Gauntlets, Ivory Mitts, 2x tree cuttings, wisteria lumber, and petrified log.

*Edit:*

Went a few more times. Each time got progressively easier than the last, using the same tactics, and we were never in much trouble. Just don't take too much time before the PLD uses invincible as this thing dishes out damage so quickly your HP can drop to red within seconds, and if PLD dies, well... you're screwed. We beat the BCNM in 1Min 49Sec for our fastest run, this time around.

Drops were decent, but nothing I hoped for especially. No big deal, but unlisted to the drops here, it can drop Wyvern Skin.

Dropping conventions seem to be 2 pieces of equipment, and 4 items. Equipment can be any two, it seems, so 2 mantles, or 2 gauntlets, or 1 of each, etc.

I still have 2 runs left to go, I hope I get spiked finger gauntlets (b'.')b
