Actually, the BLM NM, which is the main boss, is silenceable. We did this run several times last night and I managed to silence it many times. I was kiting one of the weaker NMs as RDM however, so keep in mind that I didn't come into contact with the BLM very often. I never saw it resist silence, actually.

As for bind and gravity, gravity works wonders here. It will almost always last MUCH longer than the recast time. Bind was a little more random. Sometimes it would last 10-15 secods, other times it wouldn't even last one. I usually just ran around with the mob following me and would bind when I thought gravity might be wearing off soon. With my enfeebling magic capped, each spell was only resisted once out of seven runs.

One strange thing I noticed was with slumber powder. I had to keep poison pots on the whole time in order to fight any sleep attacks. Oddly enough, the kited mobs NEVER used slumber powder unless my poison had worn off. If they ever got close, they would use Sprout smack and the AoE that hits 2-3 times (forget what its called) but they would always wait to use slumber powder right when poison would wear off. I mean, as soon as the message "Jobberwock's poison effect wears off" appeared on my screen, it was directly followed by slumber powder, which has a huge range and will pretty much get you unless you are on the other side of the room from the mob. So just a warning, these things seem to know when they should and shouldn't use this attack.

What about a strat that involved 6 bst/whm. All call pets (C.C) hold for timer, then engage and take out blm first. 6 pets + 6 bst = death mucho fasto! then move to next as quick as possible, while healing damage as it comes up. I dunno if its possible but it was just an idea. tell me what ya'll think.

I've already tried that and failed twice, because I made a big mistake : those saplings are highly resistant to magic (even the SMN 2hr dealt a whooping 30dmg).

Notes : They're immune to sleep and silence, but weak to bind and gravity. They have infinite TPs and spam AoE WS, and they have Additional Effect : Poison. The main one is a BLM that will use Stonega, Stone II, Drain and Aspir. The Battleground is a circular arena, and the saplings spawn in a triangle, with the 2 minors in front and the major in the back.

I haven't found any strategy yet, but I've heard something about using but melee DDs (which would be the only thing to do since they're highly resistant to magic), especially MNKs. A few months ago, I made a strategy for it, but haven't tested it yet - I'm posting it here if you want to take a look at it.
(By the way, Paint FTW! <.<; ).

Setup of 3 DD melee, 1 PLD, 1 RDM, 1 WHM.
(WHM is blue, RDM is red, DDs are purple, PLD is yellow, major sapling is brown, minor saplings are yellow).

First step : Clearing the major one
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/8136/FFXI_GroveGuardians1.jpg

Triangle disposition to minimize AoE effects.
RDM binds a minor one (red circled), then cast gravity on each, and eventually debuff/backup heal, while keeping the minor one bound.
PLD tanks a minor one, keeping it away from the rest.
DDs go {Full Attack!} on the major one.
2hrs might be used against the major one.

Second step : Clearing the first minor one
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/5251/FFXI_GroveGuardians2.jpg

Vertical line disposition.
Once the major one has been killed, DDs move onto the one which was kept bound.
PLD stays on the minor one he/she's been tanking since the beginning and moves down.
RDM backup heals and, if he/she has enough MP, maintain gravity on each mob.

---

Third step : Clearing the second minor one
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/3053/FFXI_GroveGuardians3.jpg

Right of the center position.
Once the first minor one has been killed, DDs move onto the one the PLD has been tanking.
RDM backup heals.

The recast timer on gravity is rather long, it would be difficult to keep three mobs weighted at the same time. I'm guessing it's the same area that the Worms Turn fight is in, so I think the area is big enough that a rdm could kite one of them using gravity and bind. If you had 2 war/nins trading hate and then some other DD focusing on one of the minor saplings while the pld is tanking the other, maybe rdm could kite the main one? Only an idea. I have no idea if the main one has better resistance. Either way the mob the rdm was kiting would build resistance to gravity so it would be better to get the other mobs killed ASAP, maybe have wars 2hr their sapling, save invincible for the more difficult one?

Then the RDM could keep Gravity but on the bound one, that way if Bind wears off, it won't reach the RDM before he/she's able to bind it again :o.
Also, each MNK could constant voke the sapling they're currently fighting in order for the WHM not to take the aggro and break the formation. The main problem though, will be the mana - the WHM would definitely have to bring some juices with such a configuration.

By the way, /NIN tanking would be highly unefficient due to the constant AoE.

Something I had forgotten to say : Along with their AoE attacks, they use Slumber Powder (Sleepga), so Poison potions are a must.
