SummaryZeid, the sole master of the way of the Dark Knight in Vana'diel, has been sighted in the Palborough Mines. If you seek him out, he may make you an apprentice... WalkthroughCompleting this quest will allow you to change to the Dark Knight job. Gumbah is on the 2nd Floor of the mines in a house. He sends you to Palborough Mines. You might have to talk to him a few times before he does, but eventually you will see a cutscene with Werei and Volker which talks about the Palborough Mines. Once there, board the ship on the third floor at (H-8) and you will receive a two-handed sword. Equip the sword and start killing things. You need to kill at least 100 enemies with the sword in any area. Only Warriors and Dark Knights can equip the sword. Once you kill at least 100 enemies by dealing them the final blow with the sword, go to Beadeaux and a cut scene will be triggered that flags you as a Dark Knight. This quest is very easy once you have the sword. You can get the sword with any lvl 30 guy then use the sword with ur war then go to Beadeaux. I did the quest with 100 kills with my lvl 12 war in like 1 hour and 30mins, maybe less. Just go out and kill worms right outside San's walls. Wild Rabbits work very well too, about 2 hits at lvl 12 for me.
if i start the quest wiht a 30blm... could i equip it with my 11 war to do the quest?
yep... that's what you have to do. The sword really bites though... My WAR 15 took forever to chew through 100 lev 1-5 mobs.

Great mini-guide Xelopheris! 1 thing I think should be noted is the /equip macro for those who don't know. This way you can still exp and your death count. Mine looks like this:
Alt 1 - /equip main "Spatha +1"
/equip sub "Aspis"
Alt 2 - /equip main "Chaosbringer"
So hammer away until the mob is on its last breath then macro the Chaosbringer to get credit!
Alt 1 - /equip main "Spatha +1"

Thank you for answer all my questions. That really helped. Now i know i can go get it with my lvl 31 blm and switch to my lvl 15 war.
For some reason i cannot find the ship to get the chaosbringer >< could someone please tell me where on the third floor of palborough it is??

If i go and get the quest with my lvl 31 blm/15 whm can i then warp back to San and switch to my lvl 12 war and get the kills there?
ok, heres the deal people...it's not that hard...use any job you like to get the quest and the sword, warp/choco/run/tele/deathwarp/warpII/instant-warp wherever the hell you want. as long as you change to WAR in order to equip the Chaosbringer, you can kill mobs ANYWHERE. you can go to ifrit's cauldron and kill mobs there if that suits ur fancy. there are three main things to consider:
1. Get quest somehow.
2. Change main job to war.
3. Kill 100 mobs with the final blow of the sword.
Anything else goes! (as in you can go anywhere, sub whatever you like with war, zone/warp/commit suicide all you friggin want, and you can take whatever job to Beaudeux as long as you kill 100 mobs with the sword)
just be sure to keep count!

So Can I kill MOBS in ANY REGION / AREA? Or do i have to be in mines?
Yes you can kill mobs in any region. I would suggest Huge Hornets in South Gustaberg. If Hornets get scarce there, head to Vomp Hill, also in South Gustaberg, and just run around the lower level killing everything in sight. Be sure to keep track of all your kills, not including ones killed with Weapon Skills or ones that "Suicide" (ie Bomb Toss, Final Sting). Hope this helps you, good luck.

Ok here goes I started the DRK flag quest and was in palborough and in a moment of not paying attention I got aggrro of some quadavs who proceeded to murder me at which point much to my horror I discovered that the buffer EXP I had built up to avoid this exact thing from happening was barely under the delevel percentage. so my question is since I already activated the quest can I still finish it as a lvl 29 albeit way more carefully?

You can finish the quest at level 29. You only need to be level 30 to activate the quest. You will wanna level back up to 30 to start any other Advanced Job Flag quests. Good luck with the rest of your quest.

Can you:
1. Use berserk
2. Use sneak attack (im using a 30WAR/15THF for farming)
3. Use for example dia at the beginning of battle
P.S. I wish I read this forum about using WS's.. gotta start all over now...however i wasn't keeping track of my kills.

I'm currently a lvl 10 Warrior... I know that one must be 30 to be flagged, but must one be 30 to get the sword? If I can get the sword now, I thought, I could get a headstart by switching to the CB when I run across weak stuff in my way.

Yes you can zone. It will not reset your count..
I zoned about 7 times running for my life cuz i keept missing and still i got it with 104 kills...

I realise most people here fight Huge Hornets to get the kills...
This is why your counting is off..
Hornets have an ability called Final Sting.. If they use it, they just suicided..
Which means you didnt get final blow.. Which means kill didnt count... This is why you people having to go back so many times when you think you have it.. because you not paying attention to what you kill and what suicides

I would nix the comment about using weapons skills and simply going well over the 100 mark. I did that in blissful ignorance and was mighty annoyed during the stroll home from beadeaux. Just get em whacked slowly but steadilly. For all I know, using a WS resets your count.

Used meat mith and berserk, provoked one and attacked another to go as fast as possible. With a 31 war/15 thief took me about 45 min. 110 kills and I lost 22 hp.

2. you cant do WS
3. u can zone and switch jobs are u get ur 100kills
4. u cant use magic to kill monster
5. you can not log or get d/c
Write down all ur kills it took me like 50 minutes to get 100 kills and i got 20 more just incase then i switched back to RDM and went to beaudex and got cutscence.... just use warrior and let it kill with sword dont zone,use WS, or anything simple as that :)

Man you're full of crap. You can zone and you can log. I did both while doing this quest. Took me all of about 20 minutes.

I did all the steps and am sure i did them all right but when I reach Beadeaux there is no cut scene appears in there

I can confirm that the sword MUST be in your inventory for you to get the cutscene. Me being the tard I am left it in my moghouse after switching back to my main, went to Beadeaux; no cutscene. I went home, grabbed the sword, and went directly back to Beadeaux (without killing anything more), and DID receive the cutscene.

You can unequip chaosbringer, and hit the mob. but the kill does not count. It doesnt reset kill count if u unequip it.
i took risk to tried this one lol. i use meat mitha and war 30. about 3-4 hrs. killed about 100-120 to be sure.
i did like every count of 10 i write a number down on a piece of paper.when i reach 100 i kill about 10-20 more to be sure.
i even did logout and read this forum to be sure wat i am doing. ^^
have fun

Now i get why i didn't get the Cutscene, i did zone and used Weopen Skill
Does it matter whether the enemeies killed provide xp or not?

As I've no melee job over lv. 1, I went WAR/BST so I could charm the low level mobs for a bit more damage... Not realizing I had to get the FINAL blow... I don't even know how many times my pet bee would kill it because it hit like 2 times faster than me... I'm probably going to have to start alllll over...

since i already am war so i can still kill 100 monsters with deathbringer wen im lvl 30 right doesnt change outcome or anytihng does it?

I, also, only have mage jobs past level 1. As a level 37RDM can I get this quest? Will I get the cut scenes and be told to go to mines to get sword?
I understand that I have to be a WAR to equip and kill with it, but can I get it first as RDM, then go and change jobs to WAR to finish the quest?
Also, after the 100 kills I won't be a level 30 WAR. Do I go back after the kills as my 37RDM to unlock DRK? You have to be a level 30 to unlock advanced jobs, which I won't be with my WAR.

Ok i understand this quest, for the most part, i guess my only confusuion is, when i get the 100 kills does it matter if i am my lvl 30+ job? OR do i have to be the job i did did the kills with the sword?
Here's why. I'm a Taru... my whm is 41 (w00t) which is what job i started the quest. I've only used my war when death warping, thinking i'll never need to use my war. Now i need to use my war for the 100 sword kills. Lets say i get lucky and those 100 kills gets me to lvl 10war. There is still no way i would be able to make it to who i need to complete the quest with my lvl 10 war-taru.
Therefore, can i switch back to my 41whm and still complete the quest. I'm sure others have questions like this, cuz i've heard that question in PT's before i was interested in pursuing the DRK.

You do not have to be the job that does the kills. I just went to Beadeaux after 100 kills as a WAR with BLM and got the cutscene.
