Description
These mines,nestled in the Northeastern corner of North Gustaberg, are still in relatively good shape -- much of the machinery even still functions. Yet the tunnels and shafts have become infested with beastmen and monsters. The Mines themselves are divided up into three "floors", each progressively more difficult than the last. On the top floor is an unusual shrine with a Burning Circle that seems to lead somewhere else.
Points of Interest
- The burned spot on the third map is the site of the Waughroon Shrine.
- The boat at H-8 provides a one-way trip to the Zeruhn Mines.
- The boat (mentioned above) must be used to get a cutscene for the quest Blade of Darkness.
- Several Quadavs on the third map drop the Palborough Chest Key required for the Kazham Airship Pass.
- The notorious monster Ni'Ghu Nestfender is spawned at G-10 on the third map for the quest The Talekeeper's Truth - WAR AF2.

Can someone tell me how to get to Palhborough mines plz i have been searching everywhere.I'm in zaruhn mines i just need to know how to get there and what's it connected to.thanks.

If fact, it's not really connected. Palborough mines has a one way exit to Zeruhn Mines from the third floor, around H-8. But beware! Zi'Ghi Boneeater occasionally can be seen in that area. Guarding the boat to Zeruhn mines, as well, are two Quadav's. To actually get to Palborough Mines, go out of Bastok and go to North Gustaberg (The closest entrance to Bastok). Look at your map, and it should show Palborough Mines are your map. I'm on Pandemonium if you need help getting there. /tell xhuli.
Having farmed here when I was at level 30 for hours, I know alot about this place.
I know some really dirty tricks that you used to be able to do.
For the WAR AF boots quest there is a tough quad NM that you pop at the top floor. Pre MPK patch you could use him to kill anyone who entered the mines regardless of level.
My evil friend used to get kicks out of MPK'ing people who were going for KSNM30 and BCNMs.
He used to pop the NM, voke it, then run like hell to the zone on the first floor. He would drop done the old machine thing, to the creek, and rush to the first floor without being hit once. He would then wait at the zone until most of the quads got close.
After that, he would zone it. This was before MPK patch so none of them de poped.
It was ugly.. Anyone who entered would be aggroed by the NM and the 30-40 quads around it would link and kill the player in a matter of seconds.
You had no chance of surviving either. The lag would make it very difficult to cast spells and you were some how bound while the quads attacked you.
Post MPK patch none of that stuff can be done anymore, Yes, I know most don't like MPK'ing, but I used to get alot of laughs out of it.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't the one killing people. I just watched.
Also, another interesting thing I found out. If you shoot a rabbit across that creek nexto to the elevator, and then enter the elevator, the train will be transported to to elevator. Works with quads too.

Dude, that's horrible. I wouldn't have been able to sit and let this happen.
So I just spent more then an hour on the top floor of the mines looking to get lucky with some Platinum ore. However, as chance would have it I honestly did not see ONE SINGLE mining point. Has anyone ever had an experience like that? You can still get Platinum ores here right?

i mined at the mithral seam for a bit and only got someother item and put it in the refiner. what i thought would be mithral ore came out as mithral dust or something like that. am i supposta craft it or something?

it is used as part of the 2-3 mission. since im from sandy, i had to turn it into the ppl at the bastok embassy than kill a windy dragon.
it has no other use to you, if u are not on that quest and/or do not need to do it, than just toss the stuff

hey guys, just wondering...can anyone tell me a spot were i can mine...tell the <pos>..or somthing...cause i need zinc ore for goldsmithing, and a freind told me to come here....with a 23war/11mnk shouldnt be hard...just need a spot to mine :)...thnx...and please tell me....

You can get a map of palborough form one of the mpa vendors in bastok.
Now I know I am sounding like a noob when I am saying this, but I cannot find the freakin' lower refiner. I put in a mine gravel, then I'm like "WTF!?", where's the other one? It would be a great deal of help if anyone could post a map showing Refiner locations. Thankyou.
nevermind, i found it. For those of you who are wondering, just jump down right behind the refiner after putting in the gravel and pulling the lever. Its right beneath it! I actually found it by accident, funny story....

its on the second level if you look on the map theres a curving passage way that sweeps round under the refiner and an open area with water
For those of you who were wondering you can purchase a map for 600 gil in Bastok Markets. The location is (H-9)and the NPC's name is Karine. She's in a tent near the water. Hope that helps everyone out. ^^

I dunno about all of you, but I find it's really easy to get chest kes here. when i went to get key for Kazham airpass quest, myself (25WAR/12MNK) and my friend (50PLD/25WAR) got it in about a half hour. Just last night, i went to help one of my friends get their key, and we got 3 to drop in half an hour ^^ so, all in all, it was good.
On a side note, i can't seem to find a chest for that key i got last night, can anyone give me a map that has where they spawn?
EDIT: Found one, got my Flame Boomerange ^^. now using it to skill up throwing for when I can use Shuriukens as NIN.

The Old Toolbox is a key item used for a quest in Bastok called The Elevenths Hour. In order to get the quest, you must have completed the previous quest Hearts of Mythril. The NPC for both of these quests (I forget his name) is in the Bat's Lair Inn in Bastok Mines. After you get the Old Toolbox, speak to him, then speak to the Galka in the last room on the left on the catwalk above the Mines area. You will get a cutscene, complete the quest, receive a Small Sword and a cool title.

Any one know if there is a map for this place that shows the chest pop lacations?? Like the ones for RSE gear?? (ordell's, Mazes, and Gusgen) I'm on a chest hunting quest of my own and want to burn this key that I fouind while helping a group get Kazham keys.. thx in advance ^^

Hey, Quick question. The Chest found in here, what item do you get from it? There was a guy searching for it & he said it had a Ninja weapon for a quest in it? If this is true which one & for what quest?
There is a nin quest given Ayame for the ******** You have to get a key item out of the chest. I forget the name of the quest though...
I believe its the Flame Boomerang that you can get from the chests in mines

I remember bein a noob and trying to get the stuff for Sandy mission 2/3... I had to pt with dudes at lvl 25 and I was only level 8 at the time... How did I get through all those missions and only have lvl 8? o.O

you can take the boat it's on the 3rd floor it takes ya right to the Zeruhn mines just hop on the boat and pull the lever
If ya wanna mess around with a friend and they don't know about the boat you can always tell them to stand on the boat and launch them make sure it's ment to be funny though and your all done there of they may get mad at you

how do u get to the 3rd floor? b/c im doing the Dark Knight quest and i'm lookin all around the 2nd floor and i can't find the elevator or w/e...if u have a <pos> or sumthin that'd b cool, if not, jes let me know around where it is on the map...whether to the north or south or w/e...thanx a bunch
Palborough is a great place to farm below lvl 30, IF you can catch it when it's not being farmed by half of Bastok. I've helped people get keys many times, and I've always had NP with RDM/THF combo (I suggest you don't try soloing your key below level 26), with THF at 15 of course. I have the best luck getting keys across the river at the furthest E. bridge (across the whole map from the Shrine). You can get it at the other points, too, but I've seen an NM quadav spawn at the egg chamber area and give a lvl 41 MNK a good fight. Working the easternmost area, I can usually get a key within an hour to an hour and a half (solo) with THF subbed at 15.
Side note about the refiner: I have killed beaucoup quadavs in huge trains at the foot of the refiner many times while farming and I've yet to see an NM. If there is one, it takes a special trigger to spawn it.

why bother with thf15 if your farming jobs under level 30? TH wont apply til 30 plus with thf sub. unless thf is main.
Wow. I was extremely lucky in all of my key findings. I was able to get each key on the first drop.I soloed each different mob, I reccomend doing this (especially as a monk) because I find rare items drop more frequently while soloing or in a party of 2 or 3.
Not too many rare items up there, if you can get one of the NM's and really only Zi'Ghi' Boneater is common there. The hardest quads drop some brass armor, the keys to low-decent treasure, and feetich peices galore! I guess thats good at lower levels.
P.S. Zi'Ghi Boneater's greatsword, Braveheart, is worth 30-45k on Cerberus and has very good stats for those who want to DD and have good accuaracy and Critical Hits.

Guys... I don't know how to tell you this... but all these horror stories make me wince. Because its very easy to get the key. Get a map, and proceed towards the Burning Circle. The Old Quadav that is closest to the Burning Circle drops keys almost every kill. So as long as you can get a map, finding akey, for your friend or yourself... is very easy. By far, this is the easiest key to get. Otherwise, you're gonna be searching for a while...

actually, i had more problems getting this key than any of the others. It took me about an hour to actually get to where the quadav were that drop the keys, to start killing them and to actually get a key. and the sad thing is that i had a lvl 65MNK and a 60 something WHM helping me.
**NOTE: got Giddeus key on first kill off of Yagudo Votary and the Fort Ghelsba key took about 10 minutes after getting to the orc's spawning points.

Since your talking about key experiences, i'll tell mine. First night i was looking for the keys, i found a party that needed them too, so i joined in and we sat around near Ghelshaba and look for the keys. 2 hours go by, no key. We kill 1 last quadov, and we get it. HURRAY. so we all head out and about half way someone gets aggro'd. the party destroys the quadov following her, and bam, two more keys. -_- after that we disband and i run to the mines and log. i log back in the next day and someone invites me to help get the key. i accept, and its the same party O_o. we made no plans to meet there, so i waas just lucky i guess. i wounder around trying to find them for like an hour and as soon as we get up there, they get a key, and i die on top of a chest. they decide to use the key to open the chest and we go find a few more keys after the 1k+ gil we got from the chest. after all the keys are i decide "hey im here. i'll go find that toolbox." so i run and find it and head out to the boat where they're at. i get aggro'd soi bind and run thinking i can jump on the boat. i get there and i see them taking off waveing goodbye. great. so i wait for the boat to come back, and as soon as its in sight, lag like you would not belive. i turn around and there are 40+ quadov comeing at me. i have time to jump on the boat before it is boarded and completly filled with them. safe to say, i got a much faster way back to bastok then through zeruhn......
