These are definitely shome o' ze best pants to use for nearly all actions a Brd does, especially buffin your pt, except in ze case o' Debuffin ze mob with Elegy, Requiem, etc.

Perhaps this would work for Avatar pets as well. I don't think it would replace the legs we already are available to, but it is certainly an option. I might not pick this up at all on my summoner.
Pets include avatars, puppets, wyverns, charmed creatures and jug pets. However, defense has such little impact on damage taken that I don't see it being a noticeable change. Avatars might have a more noticeable effect since they take half damage from all physical attacks (so the bonus of any defense would effectively double).
BRD/BST might find the pet bonuses useful, but it definetely looks more geared towards summoners. Shame they didn't have anything which enhanced pet attack stats though.

Actually, avatars would have the least noticable effect. De damage reduction due to higher DEF would be halved as well.
(just an example)
DEF X : 100 dmg (50 on avatar)
DEF X+10 : 90 dmg (45 on avatar)
Automatons use %-based defense boosts (Armor Plates), so PET: DEF: 10 would get increased as well.
