I got the Larva after killing about 30 Bees. I went as 75WAR/37DNC (yes no TH)
The fight was very easy to say the least. I started by clearing a couple of Bees in the room. I stored 300 TP. I thought I was gonna need it for Waltzs, but no need. This guy has horrible Acc, got hit I say about 6 or 7 times for 50ish damage. He does strike fast but he is very bad at Acc lol. I just 300 TP raging rush/ mighty strikes and he was dead. I didn't even give him a chance to pollen. Fight took about 60 secs and I got my dagger. GL folks.

I want to start by clearing something up that is WAY too common of a misconception about TP gain. The amount of TP you gain is based on the delay of the weapon, And no weapon, other than ones that may attack more than once per round, will gain tp any quicker than others. For example, a 300 delay weapon will gain twice as much TP per hit as a 150 delay weapon. Dont believe me? Go try it out! Make sure NOT to be dual-wielding though, because that reduces tp per hit, and can easily confuse people with the amount gained (since it's also 2 diff weapons).
With that said, I'd like to say I worked my a$$ off to get this dagger, and have had it for about a year+. I play RDM and THF, and honestly, I have to say that this dagger is mediocre at best. It is "ok" for RDM soloing with En-spells, but honestly, there are still often better alternatives, but thats all matter of opinion when it comes down to RDM - all I know is that when I was around this level as RDM, and I used swords + enspells, I killed mobs MUCH faster, and at 75, this thing is a joke for RDM, especially if you have Joyeuse, Mensur Epee, or Blau dolch... Hell, I even noticed I was killing quicker with the cheap wise wiz anelace!
As for thf, around this same level, you could be using a weapon that gives +5 acc and +5 atk instead of this, and has close to the same DPS (bone +1), and if you think that acc+5 isnt so great, then why does everyone pay so much for snipers rings? Anyway, you could also be using the dmg 21 corsair's knife, which has Attack +10... And if you mainhand that, you will have MUCH higher WS dmg. SO, if attack +10, or acc+5 atk +5 better than agl+1 and dex+1? I'd say DEFINITELY, by a pretty large margin from the tests I"ve done in parties... But people will keep using this, no matter what I say... so enjoy!

Alright, lemme clarify for the clarifier. This dagger is one of the best weapons you can use as a RDM/NIN for soloing heavy hitters. The object isn't to do physical damage at all... in fact, 0 damage is WONDERFUL when attacking something like Bune, or other wyverns. So what if you don't build TP when you deal 0 damage. The important part is that the mob doesn't build TP either. The magic of low delay daggers is the frequency of landing an En-spell. 14+ damage per second is a considerable amount overall. Sure you can do more damage with a Joyeuse, but it'll all come back to you in the long run. AoE's tend to wipe out shadows pretty quickly. Just my two-cents. In an XP party, this thing prolly isn't the best choice, but for soloing... awesome.

Completely agree with you, I myself am soloing in Crawlers' Nest using only the Beestinger, will get Hornetneedle whenever I can. En-spells are awesome!
And yes, I really wanna hit for 0 damage but sadly the dagger is dealing damage.. oh well. Will get all "Enspell damgage + ?" equipment I can to max this thing up.

Hahahaha funny thing about this NM, i AOE'd at start. then my smn friend just solo'd it. This is after he told me "Seshi just sit back and i'll solo it. I have to be somewhere." Yea.. i was sitting their dead yelling and crying by butt of on vent... ugh i was so mad that he was soloing the mob i wanted to help fight FOR MY DAGGER! lol i still got it but blah! i wanted to cast on it :(

The beauty isn't TP gain in any 150 delay dagger. The thing is.. RDM + Enspells. Up until level 24 or so, I would keep up with some of the other DDs using a beestinger throughout the dunes, and a platoon dagger in quifim.If you do combine 150 delay daggers with haste, I'm pretty sure it cuts the delay down by 33%, meaning the delay would be 100 instead of 150.

What's your point? They didn't say they used THIS dagger in 30 cap ballista, just a different 150 delay dagger (which is lv.20). Fact remains that daggers like this one with enspell effects are alot of fun on things like elementals, slimes, and in extreme cases some particularly high defense crabs.
I just got the Hornetneedle and tried it to skill up my dagger skill. It was very good.
since we duo'd the crabs in boyhada (man, it took looong) i didnt went /nin. Wasnt necessary, with Haste Hornetneedle attacks VERY fast, and you maybe dont do a lot dmg at once, but huge dmg over time.
Not to mention the skill ups can be as good as dualwielding daggers. its very nice.

this bee larva takes like a million effin Wespe's atleast for me 59thf and my friend 75thf both have treasure hunterII and everything we killed about 100 so far and this is my 3rd trip so all togther about 350 soo i will keep tring at this but god dang this thing is a pain but will be so wo worth it at the end!

im looking at my horentneedle, i can almost certainly tell you that it has 16 damage.. also it doesnt hundred fists or any similar 2hr, it has what i think is a 100% triple attack, at least he triple attacked every time with me

I was so happy when it droped i heard terrible stories from friends went as drk/thf to farm a larve.
1/14 on it as DRK/THF i dont think its to bad i duo'd him with a WHM friend and me as drk/nin

As far as I understand it, TP gain is determined by the delay of the weapon, so you'd get more delay per strike from a dagger with a 190 delay versus this dagger. My suggestion to you would be to buy a Platoon Dagger or a Beestinger, go out to a place with decent mobs like Rolanberry, Batallia Downs, etc., engage a mob with one of the aforementioned daggers along with w/e the other weapon you wanted to use is, and see how much TP you gain in 1 minute. Then compare it to the amount of TP you gain with your original equipment. That should paint a pretty good picture of whether or not getting the Hornetneedle is worth it.

I'm not 100% sure myself but from what I understand it they want the 150delay so that they can hit with their main weapon again. At least thats what I'm using it for.

I'm having a problem deciding whether or not to go out and get this dagger..I'm a lvl 61 Thf and I use a darksteel Kukri +1 main and I sub Triple Dagger...I seem to get tp fine, but is the 150 delay better to gain tp faster??? Please Reply, Thank you

Well I got around to picking this dagger up for my RDM the other day. Went in as a 71 BST, did'nt get aggro from the doll so one less thing to kill. I called carrie and let the timer cool down cause I hear this thing attacks crazy fast.
It hit me like 5 times before I could sic carrie on it haha. Carrie was hitting for 170+ and I for 100+. I was lucky that it only used pollen once the whole fight. Only had to use one carrie and one Zeta the whole fight, when it died carries hp was at 2%.
Also I think it took me about 20 something kills to get the bee larva as well. Now to find the next item I can use to pimp out my RDM ^^

Got Bee Larvae in about 25-30 Wespe's and was able to solo Death From Above as Rdm/Nin

Solo'ed about 2,500 EXP worth of 20 EXP Wespes and finally got the Bee Larvae. Coincidentally, I got it off of one of the bees in DFA's room. So I built up 100% TP on a nearby Tonberry, then proceeded to pop him.
Battle started off smoothly. His attack speed kind of scared me until I noticed it was all misses >.> Finally two shadows go down and I recast. Then those go down. And he hits me. I was surprised to be hit for 60 a pop with poison additional effect! At one point I had to Shadowstitch him and shoot bloody bolts at him to get my HP back. Mostly used Dancing Edge though. Took a couple minutes, ended the fight with 57 HP and 1 bloody bolt (out of 40) left.
Good luck to others who are seeking this dagger.

1/105ish on the stupid wespes. Over a course of about 8 hours. 4 trips to the crappy Temple of Uggelapih.
I haven't used it yet...we go over to kill Sozu's PHes after we kill DFA and he pops...and it kills us (my friend runs out of shihei...and wasn't using bloody bolts ><). Then 2 high levels claim it and STARTS off with a CONVERT (yes, he died instantly) and then it goes after mr cool optical hat friend of his (DRK i think) and it rapes him in like 10 seconds. Then it sits there...oh wait I should post this on Sozu Rogberry's page. Anyway, after 105 kills we spawn the DFA and get my hornetneedle...too bad Corsair's Knife is at 1 mil so F that...so I really don't know what to dual weild this thing with >.>

got 2 bee larve in about an hour with TH 2,
me(74drk/thf) and a 60thf/nin duo'd this with ease.
it has about 4k hp, we got 300 tp, i did 2k even spiral hell and took out half its life, thf did DE took out another quarter, then i got tp for guillotine to finish it off.
It hits almost non stop and has added poison effect, but crappy accuracy.

Took about an hour and a half to get the Bee Lavae last night with just myself (67RNG/NIN) and Caladbolg (69RDM/WAR). We just kept running back and forth between the three Wespe spawnpoints on the first map until it finally dropped, then spawned DFA, which Caladbolg tanked while I spammed Blind, Acid and Holy Bolts on it: with those and Paralyze on it, it presented no problem

Does anyone know, or can estimate a drop rate on this if so pleace post thanks.
Drop rate is 100% from the NM Death From Above in the Temple Of Ugglitephia (sp lol). DFA is spawned by trading a Bee Larvae to a set of ??? in the temple. Same area as DRG AF helm.

Personally since I am a thief and money isn't a big deal I like to keep my daggers that are useful, and it's nice to get one for free.

The ??? to trade the bee larvae to is not in the middle of the dais in the room. It's to the left on a tree root. Just FYI since my friend had trouble finding it and thought he was in the wrong room until I tabbed around and found it.
