This fight can be soloed very easily by a level 20 SMN. But in order to do it you need to know the special glitch in order to pull it off. When I learned this trick I went to the Dunes and practiced it out first with normal mobs. Then when I felt ready I switched to SMN and came back for the real fight. It worked exactly the same way as with normal mobs. A very easy solo victory.
But I'm loathe to give the secret away in case it makes the Kris plummet in price. Every man and his dog will try it out and I don't want to let the cat out of the b until I get mine. Sorry :p
The glitch I know of that is by that area is the one when you can go under water. It's near the tree and PS2 system is the one that can utilize this glitch. I wouldn't do it though. If you pair up with someone fishing Marlin and just duo it. You have better chance of getting drops. Also less risk dying. I tell you how to do the glitch. You go side of the tree between the wall and tree line and water line. Slowly walk back and forth until u get in. Then just walk into the water. Pretty tricky really and time consuming. Guess you could get really good at if you practice. Like I said pair up with someone. Because usually one of us alway's have chart on us. Well GL btw it's 3.5 mil on Seraph server if you post after this mind telling me the cost on other server. Thanks and GL

Did anyone actually try this fight with a party setup of three Monks?
This method was mentioned in one of the earlier posts, and I was wondering if it's really possible to win that way. Otherwise I could just drop my chart, or let it rot in the depths of my storage, since I probably won't find two Summoners to help me anytime soon.

this dagger is cool from 73-75 in pt

I've seen a few random posts about how the dagger performs in exp PT's, but I still don't have a good idea about it. I'd like to hear from people who have used the dagger to exp with (thf obviously). I've had a few daggers go through my possesion and what I noticed is that the "occasionally hits 2 to 3 times" seems to fire off a LOT more when it is in the main hand. Off-hand it still fires off but seems pretty infrequent to me. But I have not extensively used it, so I'm curious to hear from people who have. (Enough about how to get it; there are plenty of posts on that. If someone is interested in getting it, DO RESEARCH and stop asking that same question over and over, prease.)

idk about how it would preform in exp pties.....but.BUUUUT... Imagine a drk/nin KC+M Kris.. idk if anyone would do this as Ridill/KC seems to be the way to do.. anyway, if anyone would take the time and borrow/use their own M kris as drk, please post!

If you really want to know. In my experience...
Harpe/M.Kris = Harpe/Blau = Blau/Miser+1 in a parse, same gear/food/etc...
In the end, there are many other options that are obtainable through easier venues than this dagger... now, if you planned on leveling corsair... that's another story. Excellent for popping off ~2 slug shots per fight in xp

As far as this dagger goes, on my THF 56 it is amazing. Yes the DMG is low, it hits for 10-20 dmg but i almost always get 2 or 3 attacks with it. combined with mithkabobs and plenty of accuracy gear I always have around 200-250 TP for my sata VB.

Hes not lying, this really is an easy solo for summoner, I'm 0/3 on the dagger now. The plan is simple:
1. Trade your P.Chart
2. Summon Ramuh
3. Use Yag Drink
4. 2HR
5. Wait for the mobs to pop, as soon as they do hit them with Judgement Bolt and then start running like crazy towards Selbina, leaving Ramuh to buy you some time from the NMs
6. Keep running until you have enough MP to resummon Ramuh, then wait for them to catch you and hit them with Judgement Bolt again.
7. Second Judgement Bolt should have taken out the Crab and the Kraken, leaving only the Sahagin with a sliver of health, leave Ramuh on the Sahagin to buy you time to run away again and then make a dash back to the beach.
8. Once at the beach, resummon any avatar and hit the Sahagin with any offensive blood pact, or 2hr if it is still up, this should take out the final mob leaving you with the treasure chest.
I believe there is an area near the cave where mobs have very poor path mapping, and some people use that to there advantage, that probablly the secret he was refering to. But I like to stick to my tried and tested method, I'd rather not risk losing a chart on a a strategy I'm unfamiliar with.
I always have a hoot soloing this fight, you usually get high level characters who are camping the Valkurm Emperor chasing after you spamming /tells (Help) (Do you Need it) not realising its a 20 cap fight.

Well, I finally created an account here after using the information since I started playing some 2 years and some change ago. I must say that some of these people flaming each other and calling each other n00bs is really disappointing. Are these posts being made by adolescents orimmature adults? In any case, most of you seem to have an iron clad view on thief's roles. Very disappointing. Quite frankly I enjoy this game because of the freedom it offers on how you wish to play. Stereotyping jobs directly contradicts the nature of the game. Thief is an interesting job to play because with know-how and decent gear it can be taken in different directions. A thief can put up more damage over time than a dark knight with decent equipment if applied correctly. That's not to say spike dealers are wrong, it's just a different way to play. All you thieves out there wisen up and know that your job has more variety than you might think. Play with it, and focus on what really matters in a game... having fun. None of this flaming others for having different experiences, it makes Major cry ;;.
I have done this about 20 times now and I'm 3/20 for the Kris. However I do it with my other fishing buddies and between both of them, maybe another 40 to 50 tries only yielded 1 Kris. So I'm not sure about the statistics of the drop listed here. What I do know is that I did all of my on Full Moon ONLY and they did theres whenever they got the chart, for what its worth...I think that matters. We had 1 BST (ME) and 2 SMN. If one of the mobs resist the 2hr...I 2hr my pet and sic it on the mob with half strength until the SMN can call avatars again. Most of the time the fight is a breeze. Its definitely worth it...I sold all 3 of my Kris when the price was still 30Mil apiece. Hope this helps!!

Am I doing this wrong or does it actually frop from the chest. I'm 0:44 now and could have long ago sold all my fish just to buy this kris :P Just wondering if it drops from the chest or you have to fish it up. The npc says you have to have a rod and bait :p
At long last finally got this drop. 1/14. 23% waning crescent lightsday. Thanks to Tenakajr for the assist. Too bad I have to sell it to buy my 72 thf gear...would have liked to play with it for awhile.

Okay so I wasn't satisfied when I read about this dagger because I had to do a lot of research blindly on my own. Let me spell it out step by step how to get this dagger.
First you need to get Novice standing in fishing.
Second you need to do Map of Bostaunieux Oubliette quest in Mhaura.
Third you need to do the 2 quests from Oswald in Selbina, The Gift and The Real Gift.
Then you can see Zaldon in the fishing guild and he will gut fish for you to look for goodies inside.
(for the quests you will need a Sand Charm (found off Cross Bones), Shall Shell, Fat Greedie (fished on pier at Selbina dock), and a Danceshroom)
Along the way to get your Merc Kris, you may catch fish that Zaldon will gut and maybe you will find other things but the fish you are looking for are Bhefhel Marlin. The best setup for this is Lu Shang + Bluetail. Being poor as I am I use Mithran rod and it works just fine. I went for about 10 hours fishing without fishing gear and got 2 Marlin. I about gave up until someone gave me 3 pieces (there are 4) of +skill fishing gear. I catch at least 3-4 a boat trip now with lv32 fishing. Also a good time saver, at least at my level of fishing certain messages mean certain things.

Remember Marlins are big fish and should be hard to reel in. If the fish's stamina is dropping fast you have a monster, or cone calamary.

After you and a friend astral flow and judgement bolt, if 2 mobs or alive and/or have high hp, you should run to the rock outside of selbina and resummon and 2hr. Running this far will allow you to get far enough away to do so without danger.
I'm 0/42 on this thing and I hate you people who got 1/14. This quest alone has got me thinking what a useless waste of time this game is, and quitting it.

Some of your fishing information is incorrect. !!! + Terrible, positive, or fairly can all also be ryugu titan bites in addition to Marlin Bites. If a "Positive" Bite is indeed a marlin, reel it in, don't let it go. You can tell the difference between titans and marlins by the rod action. Titans will have little stam, but move the rod wildly, Marlins will have more stamina, but rod movement will be slower.

Went 1/11 on this. Now 0/37. If you're not super lucky, even fishing at 2 hours a day, getting this can take months.

got our mercial kris today. Took 96 Marlins. Got 5 charts. Failed twice, got it on 3rd win.
also got some brig charts on the way but who cares.

2x SMN and a THF or PLD. have all 3 stand right on the ???. as the taru is saying fish up SMN get up ramuh and astral flwo + yag drink. WHne the mob po THF uses PD or PLD use invicnble... SMN then just target and judge bolt the shagin.. no need to assualt. If there no resist on judge bolt on any of the mobs its over in 10 secs. 1 resist ( about half dmg) and you can all stil melle it down. 2 resit i could get harry but that rare. all 3 mobs use hundred fist and hit pretty hard. 3 ppl fishing up marlins you can do this every 2 hours. other start is 3x mnk PT but i prefer the 2x SMN + thf or pld.

Well here it is i finally got it 1/14 but i tell u what it is definatly worth it.. The knife is a tp'in **** .. Im a lvl 50 thf with 41 fishing skill. Very rare drop btw

Its an awesome weapon and I get tp really fast in exp parties.
I'm looking forward to farming with this as my main and my kraken club, which I got from LoO a few weeks ago, subbed.

That will be out of control. I mean the mob, of course, spamming TP moves.

Sounds like at least a few of you have gotten the dagger! Congrats. For those of you that have it, could you post your drop rate on the fight? I guess i just wanna get a handle on what i'm getting myself into.

The challenge with this quest is the fishing.. I fished for 3 weeks straight to get level 30. I hope the new changes are better. Also i haven't been able to fish any marlins so any advice would help.

Marlins are more rare when it isn't a Full Moon. What I do is bring this fishing gear:
Mithran Rod
Halcyon Rod
Minnow
Slices of Bluetail(1-2 stacks of Wind Crystals + bluetail if you have high enough cooking.)
First I use Halcyon and Minnow to catch Bluetail (Avoid !!! fish because they can snap your Halcyon in half). Then I synth them into slices. After that I use the Mithran rod with the slices to catch marlin (Which are !!!). I started this at level 30 skill and with all the fish in between I just hit Fishing level 32. Good luck getting that pirate chart. 0/2 on Merc. drop :_:

ok, this dagger may seem godly at first glance... but consider the 8 dmg, you may gain tp like a crazy man, but think of the mob.... 5 bomb tosses a fight? thats my only concern, and you may say, thf have subtle blow, yes i know this, but that wont help much unless u use Rajas ring and Dragon gear, so yes major tp gain, but major mob tp gain, and the fact that it ranges from 30-65+ million gil, o well, and yes i have tested one, i do like it for farming but i prefere to keep my gil instead of usinbg one of these, just my 2 sense
