This dagger sucks. I tried dual-weilding them with capped dagger skills on EP mobs, and they never activated. Even when I kept one in my hand as a thf or nin going through the dunes, they activated maybe twice a night, and against snips. While fighting gobs, these suck. Don't waste your money.
I have a cat Thief at level 12 who I brought a "Silence Dagger" for and I was wondering how does the effect "Silence" work? I also have a "Dagger+1" which has more dmg and has less delay then the "Silence Dagger" does, which dagger would be a better to use?
Go with the dagger +1, it will be better in 95% of your fights. You could carry around both and use an equip macro to switch them out(/equip main "Silence Dagger"), but everytime you switch your main weapon you lose all your TP. The only time you'd ever want to use the silence dagger over the dagger +1 is if your at a level where the whm and/or rdm do not know Silence AND you are fighting monsters that cast a lot, that would not happen very often...
Silencing undead mobs is crucial, lots use AoE (drain)lifetap spells which can heal them completely if enough people are in range. This is a good item to use when hunting ghouls for the majiked skull for the sub-job quest item, or the inevitebal wight spawns in qufim island, assuming your pt doesnt run for the zone. I personally believe undead mobs are a peice of cake once they are silenced because they are reduced to melee only, and they are suceptable to cure spells.
Hopefully your pt's WHM will silence casting mobs long before your dagger will, but I'd look at this type of weapon as added insurance.
In situations where mobs do not cast, I'd switch it out.
I believe the AOE move you are reffering too is not a spell, but a weapon skill ablity of the monster. I dont think silence has any effect on such a move.
why use daggers when you can use swords? they are stronger, do daggers/knifes have like a puncture effect, or do people just use them cause they're faster.
daggers have a higher weapon skill rating than swords for theifs, so what that means is the higher the weapon skill the more damage u can do ie..
both my dagger and sword are maxed out at lvl 18 right now
im useing a silence dagger +1 with 7 base dmg... i could also use my fire sword with 15 base dmg...
going off of base dmg i should use the fire sword but if you add in weapon skill lvl which affects attack lvl i should be useing my dagger
attack lvl is the key to dmg, it also affects how much you have critical hits and how often you miss
i get the same amount of dmg per hit from my dagger as i do my sword because of the attack lvl and i have alot more chances to hit because of the weapon speed and i hit more often because of the attack lvl so in short i hit for more damage over a given lenght of time with a dagger than sword
A guy referred me to this cool website that lets you know which weapon type work best for each job. Or should I which job uses each weapon best seeing that multiple jobs can use the same weapon. Thieves use daggers the best and lvl them quicker than any other job. Per level, a thief can max out his dagger higher than his sword. Check this site, it's interesting. http://www.all-final.com/ff11/skill_chart.htm
