I myself use TH hooks +1 because I suck at getting money (however due to some amazing luck and generous friends I have a Brown belt and scorpion harness).
I mainly didn't think the +2 hooks were neccessary compared to the extrodinarily cheaper +1's, however, I do plan on upgrading to Spartans as soon as i can. What sucks is that even though I can afford them AND equip them, there are none on the auction house... -_-;
Anyway, while TH Hooks +2 may contend with the cesti, +1 users should upgrade, because (at least on ifrit) the cesti are only about 70k...

I am indeed, impressed by these over TM Hooks+2, but only for: Soloing (Icky -10 def), I can do over 1k with Raging Fists, and they have some acc on 'em. TM hooks are great, too, but Spartans are making me feel all DRKish since I can bust out pretty groovy RF numbers. I'm keeping both, however....
you know i've ptied along side mnks that use these and i wasnt impressed at all. my per punch damage was in the same range as these. i use TM+2 btw.
but i wonder if you guys have looked at the destroyers. the latent effect of these is removed just like the trail weapons. and a 6% increase in critical hit rate is very noticeable. not to mention only giving up +2 damage and dropping +70 off your delay makes these better than spartans by far imo.

Nah... just nah. T.M. Hooks+2 owns these IMO. 4 DMG for -40 delay and 10 ATT, awesome. I take T.M.+2 over these anyday. Also on Kujata, last time I checked, Spartans were about 600k-1000k more than T.M.+2.

Spartan Cestis suck the big one ^^.
You need fuma kayhan, brown belt, and a whm to haste you 100% of the time your fighting for these to even match my claws. 1.5mil wasted. And anyone who uses these without all the +haste equip should be drug out into Bastok and /slapped to death.

I have these and TM Hooks+2... I'm selling Spartan's back. I'm not impressed >.> I'd rather have slightly less damage and faster attack.
I'm up to 1,000,000/1,400,000 for spartans now (b'.')b

Spartans are great to have, noone that is a true mnk should say otherwise, i do not own a pair myself, yet, and i am currently at 68 since 50 i have been using Cross-Counters and i love em they costed me 3 mil, and yesterday i decided to sell them so i can fund rng, sold them for 6mil O_O;;
but i will be picking up a pair of spartans whether i bcnm them or buy which is currently @ 3mil on garuda -_- , shivas claws really are not the great i think, i have a pair and they dont perform for what a mnk is, however if i do not buy spartans i'll be using feral fangs, im not big on GOD/HNM so i will most likely never own a pair of indras, i think i will go for the Destroyers once i get into the 70's if not ill pick up spartans for sure, i dislike seeing mnks using 0 delay cestis, i mean for farming is one thing, and sure you can get tp faster, perfect example had 2 friends in a bone PT in king ranps tomb, one using indras the other using 0 delay cestis, (Vishnus i think) sure he would gain tp fast but average Asuran Fists DMG was 400, as to the other mnk using indras was doin 1000-1200 Asuran do the math low delay delay low dmg cannot match high delay hi dmg in any way, my mnk setup is nothing great 2 mermans earring 2 snipers ring spike necklace, brown belt and life belt amemit +1 all AF and up until yesterday cross-counters,
mnk is my second highest job and i love it to death, but i just like to xp so i will never go hardcore on a single job maybe once i get all my favorable jobs to 75, mnk would be a 1st pick to stack with the best gear ... well GL to all

if you don't have a pair, how can you say that no true monk should be w/o them? you have no idea of what they are like, so until you own them keep your "you NEED them" to yourself

as for all the discussion on the 'huge delay' of the Spartans, it's not really noticable, considering with Martial Arts IV you get at level 46, your base H2H delay is 340. Tack on +113 from the Spartan's you have 453. Then lets say you have Brown Belt, which is Haste +8%. 453*0.92= 416. AND THEN, when you hit 61, you get another Martial Arts upgrade, which reduces your base H2H delay to 320. Redoing the forementioned calculation, 320+113= 433*0.92= 398. So, with that 'huge delay' you get from Spartan Cesti, your total delay pre-level 61 is 416, and post-level 61, your total delay is 398. Not too shabby for one of the best knuckles in the game with 'huge delay' ~_^

For the nice and common monk that is.. Till the gilsellers hit us hard, like a hurricane the Zoe's upmarched. Suddenly spartans hit 900k (were like 500k when I started) O Kote were 450k when I started, 1 mil now, and Juji gi? When I was 40 I bought that for 150k! Now they're 500k! My brown belt I got at level 48 was 300 someodd K, now its 900k
Damn! You guys are LUCKY! Spartans cost around 2 million, and O.Kotes cost about 1 mil on Gilgamesh. Blah. After reading up on some stuff, I think I'll prob try my hardest saving up for these bad boys. I would also love to have Avengers, but the change of getting them is slim. Wish me luck....

i'm lvl32mnk and looking up the higher lvled weapons...anyway i think that the spartan is the best weapon for 58 till about 72 if i saw the right lvl for the higher weapons that is but i'm not sure i'd have to re-check

Hello, I'm a 69 (70 tonight) MNK on Ramuh. I'm quite good at my job and try hard to have the best equipment available.
Now, Spartan Cesti V.S. Shiva's Claws/Feral Patas/Stun Jamhadrs.
I've used all 3 in xp parties, and being an elvaan MNK you would think I would go with Shiva, but Shiva really aren't that great. Hitting IT mobs with a low DMG weapon like Shiva claws is really horrible ^^; Spartan on the hand, although the delay hurts a little, the DMG makes up for it (especially considering WHM and RDM are good about hasting MNK). Also lets not forget that Spartan will give you 6%tp per hit, as oppossed to 4% from Shiva, and 5% from Stun and Feral Patas (extrememly nice, and helps you keep your WS coming as often as those with Shiva). Then WS wise, you will do a good 100-350 (from what I've experimented with) DMG more than Shiva (200 more than stun, and 100-200 more than feral).
So, if you want to be the best MNK, Spartan is the way to go. If you don't have snipers or other ACC gear, then go with Shiva.
Personally, I'm using Spartan till Indra Katars, and I may play with Avengers a bit if I get my LS to take me (although I have more than enough ATT+ as it is ^-^/). Well, hope I helped, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in from a MNK who loves his job~

Yay a MNK who knows his stuff! Rate up! I totaly agree Spartans are the best till Indras. Alota people look at the Delay and are disgusted but what they dont understand is, is that H2H delay IS NOT like a sword or axe's Delay. 113 delay is lke a second slower than say a 96 delay at 60+. and at 71+ u wont even see a noticible difference. Alota people think Vishnus with +0 delay must be godly... I can guarantee its not .. even at 75... u would still need like a ton of haste gear (worth millions) to come close to perma hundred fist. Any good mnk worth there salt will know the weapon upgrade should ALWAYS go tct.hooks > Spartans/Bone Patas+1 > Spartans/Feral Fangs > Spartans/Avengers/Indras/Spharai (end game). Spartans last for 15 levels... and are end game weapons.

No, they changed this a long time ago. I think wait can go up to 90 now... My sister's Tele-shout macro has /wait 60 in it...

AFII weapons are always a pain to get, and they all include Weapon Specific WS that only that weapon can use. I think having AFII is more bragging rights and enjoyment of the game and its end-game content.
