i was farming these one day for scrolls for my ninja. 68RDM i had up all buffs including stoneskin and phalanx. he decided to use everyones grudge on me. well thank god for my buffs he only got me for 22 dmg! i was EXTREMELY lucky.
errr.... Actually... Everyones grudge ignores you defensive measures, and does a set amount of hate based on how many tonberry you have killed since last resetting hate. The fact that it hit you for 22 damage means you hadnt killed many tonberry yet.

All Tonberry's have two Powerfull moves at there disposal. Throat Stab and Everyone's Grudge.
Throat Stab will Take the Players HP down to 10%, and does not reset hate. If he lands it and you dont Cure fast they will kill you. But Throat Stab can be easly avoided. When he Readies this Move simply Turn AROUND. He will miss Everytime. Everyone's Grudge on the other hand can only be avioded by Resting Hate. Which is a Quest that should not be overlooked doing such battles as ZM4. It can easly do 1800+ DMG.
Also let me say Def will not save you. If you kill 10 Tonberry and your ALONE will be Hit with 250ish HP, But if your in a party of 6. 250 X6 = Death. Hope this helps.

ummm throat stab does reset hate.. i had a friend of mine use one ranged attack and leave it alone, and it did throat stab, i go down to 120hp and it goes to say hello to my friend, it only resets hate on the person its hitting, or everyone, not really sure, but how can one ranged attack for 82 take hate when i did over 80% of the damage? please tell me :)
everyones grudge dmg is based on your tonberry hate, everyones rancor is based on parties hate

these tonberries cast Jubaku: Ni and Dokumori: Ni. it is frustrating to see this as a ninja, because these are spells that players can not learn. both spells do have a different graphic than the :Ichi version, like the other ninjutsu.

Throat Stab is a TP move from them that cuts your to 10% HP and you loose all hate when this.
I heard Throat Stab did damage proportional to HP. It will always cut down about 3/4 your HP I heard. Think of it sorta like the old FF spell 'Demi'
[throat stab] is an extremely high damage physical attack, much like sickle slash or jetstream.
I dont know if tonberry hate drives it's power.

In most other FF's, Tonberry DID kill in one hit.
Anyway.
Throat stab does 97%[35/36]ths of your HP in Damage, but you lose all Enmity this monster has on you. Unless you're soloing ofcourse.
Guess you'd be screwed then.

northern crater in FF7, they would one-shot your char wth Everyone's grudge, thankfuly it often missed :D They had a sweet drop though. Tonberries are scary like Tarus, they small and cute but will dismember you when you least expect it. Thankfuly I dont have much hate with them
That is because they are a FF version of Yoda. Short, Green, Cute and will kick your ***! Out of all FF games, when someone mentions Tonberry, I shiver. Little bastards!
