Mission Orders

Assist Chief Engineer Cid in conducting an analysis of the gaseous emissions in the Dangruf Wadi. Meet with Cid for a more detailed explanation.

Walkthrough

Accept the mission from a gate guard after completing The Zeruhn Report. Head back over to Metalworks. Look for Cid in his lab. He will give you a key item: Blue Acidity Tester. Take the acidity tester to Dangruf Wadi Make your way to (I-8) where there will be a geyser. Stand on the gush of water until it pushes you up onto the ledge. Check your key items and see if the tester has turned into a Red Acidity Tester. When it turns red, return back to Cid to complete the quest.

You will then receive rank 1-3.

In Bastok markets near the zone to mines, there is an old man down and to the right of the first set of stairs towards the mines zone. He is dancing around and he used to be the old maat. Trade him a bone chip and u will be able to get the map for dangruff wadi ^^ bone chips on the sylph server go for about 200 gil a piece on AH so its cheap and quick. hope that helps

Dangruf Wadi is situates in the bottom left corner of South Gustaberg

you only have to be about level 10, Goblin Thugs and Weavers are the only aggro monster to look out for. All you will be doing is going to the fountain and standing on it.

I went to do this mission during daylight. I went in and went out without seeing any goblins.
So try this mission during daylight.

Agreed. Just turn right at the first fork and head north till you stand on the guyser that propels you to the next level. Do a 180 and leave the way you came. It's as easy as Apple Pie.
Done
# Apr 10 2004 at 1:53 PM Rating: Decent
I just got this one by luck. I ran around the whole place for around 30 mins, dodging goblins left and right, waiting for it to turn. I double checked here and mentioned that fountain, I go back and some goblins jump me. I figure I can escape and ride the blast up. Of course the goblins hovered up and over the cliff edge, where I met 3 tinkers, and I proceeded to die when all their Stone spells went off.
yay, another death, I check my tester, and its red.
So ride the wave, get killed, and maybe youll get lucky too.

Explain how the land of vanadiel failed to invent the slingshot?
Explain why you cannot find rocks to throw on the ground? (You would think with all the massive rocks sticking out of the ground everywhere that little rocks would abound on the ground.)
Explain why you cannot stack rocks 99 to a stack instead of a dozen like bolts and arrows?
Explain why even with gobbie bag 4 and mog house inventory 4 that you never have enough room?
Explain why you have to ask to move your mog house every time you go to a new town? (The first five million times it was entertaining.)
Explain why you have to wait until level 75 to get an item that allows ninja to cast spells without all the blasted spell elements, which by the way stack in stacks of 99 not 12?
Explain why you have to manually restack and resort your inventory after every kill or loose your item without warning? (Someone at Square Enix needs to find out the meaning of automatic in the dictionary.)
Explain why a hood on a cloak prevents you from wearing a hairpin, hat or tiarra?
Explain why towns like selbina and muhara do not have a mog house?
Explain why almost all professions can use a bow but only certain ones can use a crossbow? (Please note that effectively using a bow takes a lot of training, but using a crossbow revolutionized warfare since untrained people could learn to use it easily.)
Explain why a ninja with two weapons does nearly identical damage to another melee with only one weapon?
Explain why all but two jobs prevent you from soloing over level 16, when grouping with people is such a pain?
Explain why you can fish up more fish at skill level 0-10 than 10+?
Explain why all items are not craftable?
Explain why monsters don't drop items when they die that you clearly saw on them when they were alive? (Where did the weapon and armor go?)
Explain how you can steal something from a monster which never appears on the monster's corpse as loot when you kill them? (Where does the item go?)
Explain why you need four dhalmel hides, which are immense, to repair one torn hat? (Must be a big hat.)
Can you think of any other design inconsistencies?
By the way, I dont want Square Enix to fix any of this stuff, since the history of online games indicates that every fix is really a nerf. This may be due to the fact that they just cannot fix anything. There is too much risk that the fixed items will end up worse than they are now.

Explain how the land of vanadiel failed to invent the slingshot?
-They have magic, they have weapons, they have bows and crossbows, no self-respecting adventurer would use a child's toy when their life is on the line.

Explain why you cannot find rocks to throw on the ground? (You would think with all the massive rocks sticking out of the ground everywhere that little rocks would abound on the ground.)
-Your standard rock is light and has no heft. A good, heavy rock that would be more than a pebble is something I doubt people want to spend all day hunting for.
Explain why you cannot stack rocks 99 to a stack instead of a dozen like bolts and arrows?
-Rocks are, in case you didn't realize, ROUND, and HEAVY. Not long and thin.

Explain why even with gobbie bag 4 and mog house inventory 4 that you never have enough room?
-When's the last time YOU filled a room around with several animal pelts, crystals, weapons, armor, potions, money, scrolls, maps, shells, and miscillanious odds and ends. Sorry if you have to THINK about your inventory.

Explain why you have to ask to move your mog house every time you go to a new town? (The first five million times it was entertaining.)
-Because you're renting it, and you can only rent one at a time. You could just NOT have one there.

Explain why you have to wait until level 75 to get an item that allows ninja to cast spells without all the blasted spell elements, which by the way stack in stacks of 99 not 12?
-Because spell elements are what some may call a "drawback" to a popular and powerful class, to make using those spells more carefully done. And maybe those components aren't as large as other things. Apparently you hate to keep track of things.

Explain why you have to manually restack and resort your inventory after every kill or loose your item without warning? (Someone at Square
Enix needs to find out the meaning of automatic in the dictionary.)
-Well, I, personally, know that when I put stuff in my pocket, it all automatically rearranges to fit together most efficiently. Keys, change, lighter, BAM, automatically.

Explain why a hood on a cloak prevents you from wearing a hairpin, hat or tiarra?
-They would a) interfere with one another, and b) be rediculous to put together. You know, the hood, it goes over your HEAD.

Explain why towns like selbina and muhara do not have a mog house?
-Explain why the others do? Maybe they aren't as developed when it comes to empty houses for people.

Explain why almost all professions can use a bow but only certain ones can use a crossbow? (Please note that effectively using a bow takes a lot of training, but using a crossbow revolutionized warfare since untrained people could learn to use it easily.)
-Because loading the crossbow is different, aiming the crossbow is on a completely different lateral, there is no "feel" to firing one, no drawing back so hard to make it bow in the air at a certain point or a comfortable control over the force it's fired at (you can fire shallow to avoid letting arrows go astray and strike an ally, but not with a crossbow)

Explain why a ninja with two weapons does nearly identical damage to another melee with only one weapon?
- One hand weapon damage + One Hand Weapon damage = Two Hand Weapon damage. 1+1=2. No ****?

Explain why all but two jobs prevent you from soloing over level 16, when grouping with people is such a pain?
-Because, being an MMORPG, one of those M's means "multiplayed" and the game is meant to encourage character interaction. Being less of a whiner makes other people more pleasant, by the way.

Explain why you can fish up more fish at skill level 0-10 than 10+?
-Because higher levels maybe are casting, baiting, sinking, and measuring depth for different fish altogether? Better, consequently SMARTER fish.

Explain why all items are not craftable?
Can you build a computer with a hammer, wood, and nails? No? Because some things you cannot make alone.

Explain why monsters don't drop items when they die that you clearly saw on them when they were alive? (Where did the weapon and armor go?)
-I'm sure all the swinging, magical fire, and sword-stabbing would damage or destroy these things. You know, because they're on the monster you just destroyed.

Explain how you can steal something from a monster which never appears on the monster's corpse as loot when you kill them? (Where does the item go?)
-Because maybe such things are destroyed through battle, theoretically, since you're trying to ask stupid, stupid questions. Why don't the monsters drop shoelaces, or teeth, or hair, bloody clothes, and broken weaponry? Because you'd ***** about all the extra stuff.

Explain why you need four dhalmel hides, which are immense, to repair one torn hat? (Must be a big hat.)
-You know that hide shrinks when turned into leather, and only some of it is actually usable for such a process as material?

Can you think of any other design inconsistencies?
-Yeah, they don't just deliver a goblin thug to your front door and let it kill you. Oh wait, it's a world that has many variables you don't understand, and by the way, it's fictional. Why were you born with a mouth for talking and fingers for typing? It's annoying.

By the way, I dont want Square Enix to fix any of this stuff, since the history of online games indicates that every fix is really a nerf. This may be due to the fact that they just cannot fix anything. There is too much risk that the fixed items will end up worse than they are now.
-I can't wait to play your absolutely perfect, flawless, 100% realistic game. And were such a game to exist, you would ***** about how annoying all the reality is, like the inventory sorting for example.

Nobody makes you play. Do us a favor, and don't.

Okay, I understood the rest of all the message to be what it really was: A JOKE. This one, however, I happen to know is an actual issue. Your answer just doesn't make sense. Historically speaking, a longbow took much much much much much more time to learn, YEARS more time. As such, fewer jobs should be able to use it. The crossbow, however, is the grandfather of the gun, and takes very little skill to use so long as you can hit the broad side of a barn.

Still, funny stuff here.
RE: mission 1
# Sep 10 2005 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
Um... very few classes -can- use a Longbow... maybe it's the shortbow you're thinking of, I'm not sure. And trivializing the use of a gun is... well, untrue. I learned much more quickly to "Hit the broad side of a barn" with a bow than a gun... with a bow, your draw and aim is incredibly obvious, they are variables you have great control over. With a gun, the power is no longer something you control, but something you must focus. And if you want to talk about "historically speaking", look at the jobs that can and cannot use bows/crossbows/guns. Last time I read about Paladins and Samurai, they used bows. Not crossbows. Joke or not (and yes, his answer made very little sense to me, too), don't say you know the actual issue. If you've actually fired all three weapons from personal experience (yes, I have, and I will admit that a crossbow is the most clumsy weapon I have ever dealt with in my life), then you'd know that using a gun or crossbow requires far more skill than you think. Nocking an arrow quickly is fluid and simplistic. Loading a crossbow or a gun requires that your fingers be a bit more dextrous.

While I have no idea what this is about, and while I do see this is about two months old (or close to), I disagreed with some of the answers you gave.

Quote:
Explain how the land of vanadiel failed to invent the slingshot?
-They have magic, they have weapons, they have bows and crossbows, no self-respecting adventurer would use a child's toy when their life is on the line.

While this could be good logic, it isn't fool-proof. No doubt you know the tale of David and Goliath. While David was a small lad at the time, he still killed a giant with but a sling. There is no reason a well-aimed stone couldn't take out a small animal (such as a mouse, or bee). It could very well, if used correctly, take down larger or more fragile monsters. This wouldn't be used often, if at all, but the option (by logic) should still be there.

The explanation I could come up with is that since it is a completely different 'world', they may very well have lacked the insight to create such a simple device. Due to the effect of magic, certain areas of life get emphasised while others do not. Rubber, from my limited play of this, had yet to be invented (or any real elastics). The best one could do is a sling.

Quote:
Explain why you have to ask to move your mog house every time you go to a new town? (The first five million times it was entertaining.)
-Because you're renting it, and you can only rent one at a time. You could just NOT have one there.

I suppose the real question is why can you only have one Mog House (to rent)? Each town obviously has a surpluss of Mog Houses if they are always available to rent (to anyone).

Quote:
Explain why you have to manually restack and resort your inventory after every kill or loose your item without warning? (Someone at Square
Enix needs to find out the meaning of automatic in the dictionary.)
-Well, I, personally, know that when I put stuff in my pocket, it all automatically rearranges to fit together most efficiently. Keys, change, lighter, BAM, automatically.

If I were to use the same type of response you gave, it would look like this:

Well I, personally, know that when I put stuff in my pocket, I can automatically rearrange it (even if it doesn't on it's own). It also stays like that no matter what I do.

The problem is that since you can automatically put it together, why can't you do that when you are supposedly putting it in your pocket in the first place. Why do you have to put it in then look at everything at some other time in order to arrange it? It would probably save time if you did that while you were putting it in.

Quote:
Explain why a hood on a cloak prevents you from wearing a hairpin, hat or tiarra?
-They would a) interfere with one another, and b) be rediculous to put together. You know, the hood, it goes over your HEAD.

How would they interfere with one another, unless the power of the cloak resides in the hood? The hood goes over your head, yes, but I see several people with baseball caps on and still have a hood on. Do not girls have hairpins in their hair, yet still have the ability to put a hooded rainjacket on when they need to? A hood goes over your head, as you have said. The hood also would go over anything on your head, if it could. Hence, hairpins and tiaras (and some hats).

Quote:
Explain why a ninja with two weapons does nearly identical damage to another melee with only one weapon?
- One hand weapon damage + One Hand Weapon damage = Two Hand Weapon damage. 1+1=2. No sh*t?

I think you missed the point here, and I hope I got the point myself. The question didn't ask why a 2-weaponed ninja deals identical damage to a two-handed melee. The melee, I assume, is a normal melee such as WAR who has only one weapon and a sheild. So here, the Ninja has the disadvantage of .5+.5=1.

While I could argue that one one-handed sword could deal more damage (expecially if the user has more muscle mass) than two quick daggers, the point of this complaint was that you misinterpreted the question and hence look like an asshat.

Quote:
Explain why all items are not craftable?
Can you build a computer with a hammer, wood, and nails? No? Because some things you cannot make alone

Again, you must have read it wrong. If you have a hammer, wood and nails, why couldn't you build a table (when in this situation, something would prevent you from building a table)? If you have the skill to make one ring, why couldn't you make another ring? Perhaps it has to do with jewelry or magic, but couldn't you (or shouldn't you) be able to find out what ever you need? Some items, I assume, should be able to be crafted but can not (simple because "SE said so". - why?)

Quote:
Nobody makes you play. Do us a favor, and don't.

Calm down. These are just little food-for-thoughts designed to make you think or even laugh. They aren't serious problems that the individual wants or needs fixed. It is, for example, the type of question in more traditional RPGS like "Why doesn't anyone else but your party sleep? Or why do people just say the same thing over and over? Or why do people let you barge into their house?"

We know it is fictional. We allow it to be. But it doesn't mean we can't poke fun at it or ponder on it.
Huh?

I also can confirm that you can just go to the first geyser (take all right turns). If you're low level and dont want to stick around, I think that's the nearest/easiest spot.

Don't really need a map to do this quest and get out but if you want to stick around, get a map! It seems to be a good spot that a group of players could take care of the hares and goblins that live here too.

Get a bone chip, give to the dancing old man in markets near the galkan bridge. He gives you a map of dangruf wadi. When you get to dangruf, take all rights, and you get to a geyser. After it knocks you up a level, drop back down and exit (taking all lefts this time) and go back to Cid.

BTW, Cid is an old name for FF series. I was happy to see him =)

Only place I have seen the thingie change color is riding the gyser in the back of the zone. It is at position (I-8) --- for those who get lost in there like me and don't have a map, the zoneline back to South Gustaberg is at (K-10)

Dangruf Wadi is behind the Furnmoles...just follow the valley. Once you get inside you gotta run around till you find a small geyser...stand on that and wait for it to pick you up, this will cause it to turn red.
WHERE!?!
# Nov 03 2003 at 7:48 AM Rating: Default
Where is the Dangruf Wadi?

Cid says it's "near South Gustaberg" which would imply it's actually in North Gustberg but the map here shows it being a seperate area off of South Gustaberg but the South Gustaberg map doesn't show where the entrance is.

I've wandered around S. Gustaberg for an hour now... where the hell is Dangruf wadi?
RE: WHERE!?!
# Nov 03 2003 at 6:02 PM Rating: Decent
Cids lab is second floor of the metal works

Dangruf Wadi is a zone off of S Gustaberg is the far south west corver of the map. If you look at you see something called Furmalocs but that is the name of the area there... not the connected zone below the name.
