Mission Orders

You must go to Castle Zvahl in Xarcabard. The President himself will brief you in his office.

Walkthrough

The Windurst Mission is called "The Shadow Awaits". You must speak with the Star Sybil after getting the mission from the guard.

You may need to talk to Halver and Prince Trion for a cutscene in order to enter the Shadow Lord fight. Only one party may take part in this mission at a time.

It is recommended you finish the quest "Northward" from Radeivepart (Ru'lude Gardens, Peace Monument) for a map of Castle Zvahl.

After you have the mission intitated, head to Xarcabard, then Castle Zvahl Baileys. Make your way in to Castle Zvahl Keep. Beware, there are multiple types of beastmen on the way in, some which detect by sound and others by sight.

Once in the Keep, you will need to make your way through several gates and Ore doors to the teleporters. You should kill the demons around the teleporters to avoid trains of mobs. Once you have gone through all the teleporters you will enter the Throne Room. There are no mobs in this area so you can use this place to med and buff. Once that is done head across the bridge to the tower and open the door to the Throne Room where the tomb of the Shadow Lord lies.

The first Shadow Lord form will be immune to almost all forms of magic. He later becomes immune to physical damage and so you must finish him off with magic. After you kill him he will of course get upset and come at you again. He will do only AE attacks so make sure to use Curaga spells.

After you are done head back to your home town to collect your 20,000 gil reward and Rank 6.

I went Shadow Lord with 5 x 75 friends and was glad to have that much help b/c the road to get to SL sucks and..... we couldnt get in: door firmly closed.
After long surch and months in between i now wonder why the hell the instructions dont tell you to talk to Halver and Trion. I was starting to think you need min. lvl 50 job to get in, like it sais 50-75, and been working on it, i was BLM44 when i went, but it wasnt the problem at all.
But neighter 5.1 or 5.2 tells you to get cs with Halver and Trion. So be warned and safe yourself the hell getting there and find the door closed.

After just initiate this quest it will show as 'Shadow Lord' in your questlist, what doesnt mean you are able to get SL without talking to Halver and Trion

I recently rejoined FFXI with my taru still in tact thankfully. I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the new expansions and didn't know where to start. SO I decided to finish up my missions but it seems every one else in my server (Alexander) is busy doing other things I've been missing out on.

So with that being said...is there anyone that could help me at least with this mission? I'd appreciate it a lot. I feel like a total noob again!

Anyway my character name is Foamy (tarutaru) I'm a 59BLM/29WHM in the Alexander server. Send me a /tell in game if you are interested in helping or reply to this post and we can figure out a time and date to do the mission.

thanks in advanced!

Hey Foamy!

I am a recently re-joined lvl 59 BLM Taru as well. I too need to get this mission done. I'm not on that much, but every now and then. Search for Prax or I'll try and send you a message and maybe we can find a few others to assist?

So I successfully soloed this fight just now as MNK75/NIN37.

Walked in, throw up RR, and threw on Ichi. Started punching, he led with Blind (which is good as the 2 times I tried before this he led with Ice Spikes and it just paralyzed EVERYTHING), and I got very lucky with spells, he threw out an Aeroga II for <100 dmg. He became immune to magic damage and I weapon skilled whenever I could, he became immune to physical and I hit Formless Strikes, got him down to ~20% hp and hit Hundred Fists. After that he became immune to magic and somehow got another -ga off even though I had Hundred Fists and I beat the first form. I ended the first form with just over 1.4k HP and 300 tp.

Second form started, I led with Asuran Fists for 1200 dmg. Punched some more, Asuran Fists again for another 1200 dmg and the win. Second part is VERY easy. Finished the fight with 1175 HP.

Anyway cares what the gear was:

Wagh Baghnakhs
Optical Hat (Swapped in Turban for that little bit of haste on Utsusemi)
Scorpion Harness
Temple Gloves
Pahlawun Legs
Melee Gaiters
Ulthalam's Ring (Sp?)
Rajas Ring
Amemet +1
Brown Belt
Chivalrous Chain
Bushinomimi
Coral Earring

Merits: 8 H2H, 1 Formless Strikes, 1 Invigorate, 4 Crit, 3 HP.

If you plan to do this directly after 5-1 then you have to go to sybil first, to finish 5-1, back to gate guard, then back to sybil. Just thought you should know.

So I just tried to solo this as a BST75/NIN37. Got to the throne room without aggro. Just some EP monsters before the entrance to the throne room.

Buffed up and engaged him. He's fairly weak to physical damage. CC did all the tanking. With 35% left he became immume to physical attacks. I forgot to take some ninja tools to deal some magical damage...... So I ran around a bit with the shadow lord chasing me. After like 5 minutes, he started casting Dark Nova and was weak to physical damage again. This lasted for a couple of seconds. Didn't have enough time to finish him off, so I died... Good thing we don't lose xp in this fight no more. I bet I could've taken him down with ninja tools.

Wow,

75 DRK/NIN >>>>>>>>>> much much greater than the shadow lord.

He hit me like 3 times, and my Guillotine/SE took him from 80% - 48% health in a blink of an eye.

2 drains and 1 drain II was enough to make him change forms again, and it was over from there. Saved my last guillotine for when he went stage 2, and he lasted about 30 seconds before he died.

Pretty easy,

Ok so when I did this the first time it was horrible. Took us 2 hrs to get to the ShadowLord b/c we had 4 ppl lvl 54-63 and 2 75's and aggroed tons. the Shadow Lord is an EASY fight.

Now for the 2nd time I did it, we had 60drk 62war(me) 74blm 75whm 75pld 75mnk. got through the whole place and only aggroed 2 times besides when we had to use the teleporters. When we entered the room with the ShadowLord we waited 30 seconds for the CS, then remembered it would take a while, so 75mnk engaged and me and Pld followed suit. Mnk was hitting him for about 110 each and I was doing about 80 each. I 2hred and after I used rampage for 900, he became immune to Physical attacks, so Blm nuked his *** and by this time the CS was over so whm and pld were using Holy, back to physical attacks, beat him, another CS.

For 2nd round the mnk used Hundred Fists, I rampaged and got a Scission of someones WS for 500, not much time later his hp went from 2/5 to Zero when Mnk used Asuran Fists(1100), I used Rampage(850), Pld used Swift Blade(450) and Blm used Thundaga 3(1200) all at the same time. Skipped cut scene and WOOT set new record, 3min 41 seconds. old record was 4min 42seconds.

The whole time we did this we were in NO danger of dying. After the battle I had somewhere around 800-900hp. 850/1400 and was using berserk while SL was spamming AOE. not too shabby I suppose.

Me, the Blm, and the Mnk are planning to do it again ASAP and try to get 3minutes or under this time.

Yeap i just did for a lv50 whm friend, without any juice, potions etc, only prob was i was low on MP at the end so i couldn't keep my WHM friend cured on the second stage when it started the AOEs and he burnt alot of his MP when i moved SL because i thought i might be able to rest between fights, and he got hit with a couple of AOEs.

When you enter this battlefield, do not move. Eat your food, buff up, then fully heal before engaging the Dark Lord.
This battle is done in two seperate battles. During both these battles he is immune to magic AND physical damage during certain points.

The dark lord's first form is physical. He will only use physical attacks and two-hour, no magic during this first battle. The one with the most hate should be hasted. Everyone should save their two-hours for the next battle. At some point melee will hit 0, when this happens he becomes immune to physical attacks. With a few magic hits from a mage, he will become immune to magic. Finish his first form off with physical attacks. Your mages should rest as much as possible.

When his first form dies, you will recieve a semi-cutscene and the second form appears.

The dark lord's second from is magic. This is the toughest because your party is weak from the first battle. If there is a Rdm in your party, do not use convert. He/she will die instantly. This time, he will repeatedly use nothing but AoE magic that delivers a rippling effect throughout the entire arena, attacking everyone. During this form, he doesnt seem to be immune to magic nor physical attacks because both inflict damage. If everyone uses their two-hour's he should go down pretty fast.

My husband (WAR75) and myself (Rdm69) helped a PLD59 with this mission (5-2). The first time we failed because we thought it was one boss fight with two forms - Wrong. When the second form presented itself, we were screwed because I had converted during the first battle and had very little MP. The second time, we had a WHM75 help us out. We did well during the first form. At the beginning of the second form, I converted shortly before the Dark Lord casted his AoE (bad move). I died instantly. The WAR75, and PLD59 fought while the Whm75 healed. They defeated the boss. Everyones HP was in the yellow, & 16 MP.

Okay, here is what we did. We wiped first time bcause we had no clue really lol.
Here setup:

RDM68(moi) BLM75 BLU50 BLM58 PLD56(ish) BST56(ish)

weird eh ><!

Now, all you really gatta do is get your tank to take him up the steps, and have one mage healing him, and one (or in our case two) mages hanging back grabbing MP. About half way through the first fight, he becomes melee resistant and so thats when you need magix damage. Refresh is almost a must here! When melee start to hit for 0 thats when you know it's time to bring out the elemental stuff!

The second fight is awful, he spams real nasty AOE spells (blizzaga2, firaga2, aeroga2, Dark Nova which is a bad AOE style... attack.. thing), so its crucial your tank and melee are up teh steps, and mages are far away when healing on the opposite side of the room. Do the same, switching healers and this time his HP should come down alot quicker with just melee attacks.

When he got on fairly low MP we got our BLM to Manafont and that pretty much finished him off. We'd used up all our 2hrs on the last fight, heheh.

Be well prepared with food, and have someone with raise _and_ reraise incase you wipe >.<! always be prepared! Think ahead for mages MP, and you'll do fine!

30minute time restriction as well I believe. We did it in 24 minutes, but it was a comfortable win!

Here's the plan.
# Jul 28 2006 at 11:55 PM Rating: Decent
Alright, here's what I did.

I went in with just me, two White Mages, Halfbreedindian and Leonley, both lower-level than me. I'm a BLM66/WHM33 and we went all the way in. Remember to cast Invis and Sneak the whole way or you could accidentally die. And please, for the HL sake, don't keep losing Sneak and Invis in front/very close to tough mobs. It pisses us off.

Anyways, this particular RDM, Toulon, went as RDM75/BLU37. I was puzzled about his sub, but he used Coccoon and Protect III. It was amazing, the Shadow Lord was hitting the RDM for 0 damage!! When he was halfway dead, we started nuking him hard and killed him quickly. After you kill him once, you have to kill him again, but anyone weak or low on HP needs to move all the way up to the coffin where the Shadow Lord came from, and the strong HL need to stay down where the Shadow Lord is and take him on. He uses this ability called 'Implosion,' where it basically does 50-150 damage to anyone within range, and the range is pretty far away, so move away as much as possible if you're close to death or weak. Once he died, yeah, we were done.

I'd like to take this moment to give a shout-out to my linkshell. Assassin's Linkshell is the best in Gilgamesh Server, and Liquid is the coolest! Yeah! Alright, I'm done.

GL to anyone who wants to take this on, it's easier than it looks.

Did this the other night as a group of 3.

At 65 nothing in the castle aggro'd (though I wasn't stupid enough to try casting around the elementals, so I'm not sure about them), and I don't believe anything would have in the lower parts of the keep either. Most checked low easy prey.

Actual fight wasn't too bad; it took a while once SL put up that melee-stoneskin because we didn't have a blm or rdm, but when he eventually returned back to his original state we killed him fast. Our only problem was at the last stage, his AoE really isn't avoidable so I'd recommend mages try to put up stoneskin before you finish his first form. Otherwise just stand beside melee (might as well, you're gonna get hit anyway) and go Curaga-happy.
Easy Pray!!!

Get a rdm/nin with utsusemi: NI to do this and its weary easy to solo. If you are too low lvl to fight this or anything. Soloed this with rdm75/nin37 helped a blm 56 do this he was just standing back helped nuke on when SL does stoneskin thing :P. nothing to it

I just did this as a 51 drk and let me tell you... If you are under 60 you are going to get aggro... even if you do sneak and invis the whole way its just rediculous to keep it up for more than one person... so my suggestion is A. be lvl 60+ or B. be lvl 60+ lol they ended up tractoring me to the top -_-" talk about degrading eh? Well i got through the CS and helped kill the Shadow Lord (btw the CS's are pimp ^_^) and well i did about 300 dmg tops lol because thats how fast it was over... had 4 70+ so he didn't have a chance... rdm nuked and converted.. after the SL did an AoE she died so lesson is.. don't convert unless you can survive the AoE lol but managed to kill him in 3 mins 35 secs which isnt the record but it is pretty fast lol took us about a half hour to get there >_< I did net 6 xp after the fight even with a lvl 75 in the PT but i lost 600+ from two deaths >_<
RE: I'm such a meat bag....
# May 02 2006 at 1:12 PM Rating: Decent
Level 70+ to not get aggro... but it can be done easily with sneak/invis each person does it for themselves and you dont have one central whm casting sneak 12 times
Tougher than 5-1!
# Mar 27 2006 at 10:11 PM Rating: Good
There's no cap to this mission, so take advantage of that and get some high levels in the group. It's also helpful outside the fight, so not everyone has to be sneaked/invised the whole way through Zvahl Castle Keep...that's a pain ;; and expect some aggro. It's a very long walk through, and it helps to have someone along who knows the way.

It was...60 WHM (me), 71 WAR (tanked it), 70 THF, 59 BLM, 75 BLM, and 63 MNK. The first two fights were easy, but the third one...ouch! Implosion hurts. The 63 and 59 both died, and I only lived because I kept Stoneskin up. Ran out of MP toward the end, casted Bene right before its death. At least you still complete the mission if you're dead. If you're the healer just spam cure spells and don't have mages spread out all across the room....if you're close enough to cast spells you're going to get AoE anyways, so might as well be right next to it.

I'm not sure if I've talked to everyone I need to. I had the quest to find Trion a girl activated and cancelled it, but I can't remember if I've talked to him about 5-2. I've tried zoning in and out of the chateau and he doesn't say anything else except for something like 'I don't know what Trion will say but you're free to do whatever you want' or something like it. I've tried clicking on Trion's door but it just says it's locked. I'm assuming I've got the stuff done, but I don't know. Any ideas?

You need to go to Prince Trions chambers and click on his door. You will get a cut scene. Mission 5-2 is now activated. You will have to talk to Halver first and than to Prince Trion.
