So, just did this and was successful. 1/1
After reading the rest of these posts, I grabbed as many pamamas as I could and hopped a chocobo over to the Teardrop Spring where I found the ???. After trading about six stacks of pamamas to the ???, I got him to pop. After a reletively lengthy fight for a lvl 75 MNK, I was ecstatic to see that he dropped the Nanban Kariginu.
But the most important thing with this fight is to bring as many pamamas as you can. Even if you don't use them all, you can still eat them to bring out the armor's hidden effects.
All-in-all, I thought it was a good quest. Easy to pop, if maybe a bit expensive. Easy to win for a lvl 75. Seems to be a pretty good drop rate too. Good luck, everyone!

No joke, I just got done trading 9 stacks of 12 pamamas to the ??? and I did not get the NM to spawn! (Yes I was at the right ???, a friend spawned it with only 4 pamamas about 1 hour before this)
I didn't trade any Wild Pamamas, only normal Pamamas you buy at the shops.
I'm giving up on this way of doing it. I'm going to hunt for some wild pamamas and try those.

i wanted this armor for my ninja and decided to pop this guy for a fight
i traded about 4 pamamas to pop him and it was an easy fight but no drop
the second try took 3 stacks to pop and still no drop
the third time was a charm and took 4 stacks to get the Nanban Kariginu
it was watersday newmoon when i killed this guy
the armor is only worth 30k on sylph but its a 30k i wont have to spend

Well, i decided to try out this armor but i wanted the pleasure of getting the drop. I arrive in Kazham via airship and buy 3 three stacks from the vendor at the dock. I grab a chocobo and travel to K-10. I see the ??? get off trade it one pamama. It spawns and it goes down with ease, as I'm 73 MNK/NIN, (I didnt go into yellow HP) and i get the drop. By far one of the best luck I've had with a NM.

I just soloed this guy with my RDM75/WHM37, and was a fairly fun fight. Traded just under 3 stacks of Pamamas before he popped, and the fight lasted maybe 5-10 minutes? Somewhere in there. I kept Stoneskin up at all times, but boy does this guy hit hard. I probably re-casted SS 15+ times during the fight. But I beat him, and got a Nanban Kariginu for my ninja, so it's all well :D Now I get to try again tomorrow so my boyfriend can get one as well! ^^
EDIT -- Just got Aregu his Nanban last night. The first two didn't drop anything, but we got it on the 3rd try. It's definately easier with two 70+ jobs, he dies a lot faster XD;

ive now traded 14 stacks with no pop...i figure having read all these post that thre has to be a special condition to pop'n this thing, i dunno but i cant waste anymore gil on it right now ; ;

Soloed This as 67 Blue Mage, put up a good fight both times, left me without much MP or HP each, 34 exp both kills

1- Me (THF63/NIN) and a friend (WHM65/BLM) just duo'ed him got no drop and 20 XP
2- killed him the second time got the Nanban Kariginu and 2 pamamas and 20 xp
3- killed him the third time got the nanban kariginu and 20 xp
was gonna try a forth time but he didnt pop with the remaining pamamas we had

Well, I left a post asking if the day or time mattered on poping him cause I have used way over 12 stacks and no pop...Maybe lightningsday. IDK I will try or someone post id they know thanks...

Is there a certain day that he pops better I have droped over 12 stacks on this spot and nothing..
I came here with 20 stacks - my first pop took around 5-6 stacks. Was very easy fight as 75 MNK, he only took off about 400 out of my 1800 hp - but he does hit decently when he connects. No drop, but i'll update in 10 mins when I try again.
*Edit* Popped again with about 4 stacks. No drop except a pamama! 10 stacks left, should have about 2 shots left...
*Edit* Popped again - no drop, then proceeded to trade 6 stacks and couldn't pop him a fourth time before I ran out of pamamas.
This thing is only 70k anyways, but I wanted to have the fun of getting the drop myself. So even 240 pamamas may not be enough if you are not lucky like I was...

I must say this fight was NOT easy, even with a good mix of tanking gear and some damage dealing gear i use for soloing plus a jelly ring this guy still made me use up most of my MP and i killed him at around 600 hp.
Any ways one pamama in and one NM out, killed it and it droped Nanban Kariginu and a pamama. Not only did it only take 1 pamama to pop but i got it back from killing him lol.
So now with the 9 stacks i'm just gonna keep using them and see how many Nanban Kariginus i can get, currently selling around 100k on bahamut server i could make a nice bit of gil.

69 PLD total walk over, not sure why he's quoted as being so tough was expecting a horrbile fight and game loaded with gear. NM down with over 800 hp remaining and 50% MP in the bank. 0/1 right now

Regarding this Opo's difficulty, I would say I could have probably taken him solo (64blm at the time), but my 74thf/nin friend went with me ^^ We got a very miniscule amount of experience points from it, so we're banking on it being level 60ish in case anyone is wondering.

Killing him now with a small pt. 68 Drk/war (me) 63 sam/rng, and 40 somthing war/nin. Me and the sam pretty much duoing him and the war is making sure to stay the **** out of the way. If I were to solo him I'd definetly need to use Blood Weapon. 5 stacks of Pamamas down the drain and 1 wild pamama. 0/5 yea 50% drop nothing!

Just solo'd this sucker as lvl60NIN, no potions, no nothing. Got close towards the end cause i was getting lazy with shadows. Not an easy fight by all means. about 50% drop rate for w/e that nin thing is...

I decided to give this NM a shot as THF56/NIN28 along with my NPC, she's a 55 "Soothing Healer". I figured it would be a close battle and I'd probably lose and I was right. Fight was going pretty well but it's AoE attack really hurts...was hitting both of us for around 200. Eventually it killed my NPC so I had to spam bloody bolts to try and heal myself which means it's harder to keep Utsusemi up and keep it blinded with blind bolts. Used Perfect Dodge and once it wore it ended up killing me when it had just sliver of life left. Under the right cirumstances I may have beaten it but oh well, it was fun to try anyway. I'll be back with some friends to get revenge soon.

Went back to today to try again, this time with my 65RDM/BLM friend. The first time it took about 5 stacks of pamamas to pop it, we killed it without much trouble, although it took a while as it healed itself for ~900 during the fight. We got the drop. Waited 15 minutes and popped it again. Only took about 6 pamamas to pop this time and it seemed alot easier. Never healed, only used TP attacks. We killed it and got the drop again! /hurray for TH2 when it decides to work.

well I did this as 60war/nin, with a 75brd, cleared the area, spawnd the nm, kept my shadows up did not take one hit from him, yes I tanked it.
no drop on first round waited the time and traded again. did get the drop after that fight. we owned him the whole time. still no hits taken from him. did this on Garuda server. it has been fun running to pt's with the look alike fishing tunic on :) lol.. be well all and good hunting.
ok so I went back yet again this time 61war/nin, with a 62whm/blm first pop took little to trade.
would not let me target the nm till about half hp gone. no worries I have whm with. then I satarted pounding on him. this one was alot closer then the last two. it did the cureing move just when we had it; it cures itself, keep the bugger silent,and slowed you will still go well.

This nm is kinda tough at 68monk/thf33 he was hitting me 60-70 every 4-5 swings because he missed so much the worst part is that magic fruit for 1190 hp regained he dropped both times i fought him and was fun only took about 4 stacks to spawn both times.
Went after this guy yesterday. The ??? used to spawn him is at the spring just north-east of the temple entrance. It took me 4 stacks +11 pamamas to spawn him, so 59 pamamas. I typed out:
/item "Pamamas" <t>
And just kept pressing SPACE > UP > ENTER til it spawned. Did that, so I didn't have to go through the trade window for every single one. :p
I was WHM71/NIN32 (Yes, I'm working on fixing the gimped solo sub xP), and I easily kept utsusemi and stoneskin up. The only time he did any damage to me was at the end of the fight. I let utsu and stoneskin go down, since I almost had TP to finish him off with Hexa Strike anyway. Very easy fight. I was still at about 70% mp at the end. I got 25xp and my Nanban Kariginu. :)
By the way, you can buy pamamas from a couple different NPC's. There's one in Kazham on the airship dock that always sells them. You can also buy them from a regional merchant in whichever nation has control of Elshimo Uplands (Yhoator Outpost).

EDIT: I agree with what xXMalevolentXx said. He may be harder if you have bad evasion, and without NIN sub. I have capped evasion for WHM71, and was using an Empress Hairpin, and he missed a lot. After I let utsusemi and stoneskin go down at the end, he did hit me for ~200 dmg with a WS. Can't remember what his normal attacks were hitting me for. :p

Went today 30 mins before the update, i get there lookout around for the spawn point, finally found it (At the spring on the bottom right hand of the map, kinda near the Temple) Hop off chocobo as 68 RDM/NIN with solo gear on, trade 11 pamanas and he pops, i kill him, very easy fight, did 100 damage to me the whole time, no drop. Wait 15mins (only have 10 mins left before update) trade 5 stacks of pamanas +1 extra and no pop ;; Guess it just lottery pop for panamas, oh and i got 31 exp so it is around lvl 60-64
Edit: Went to kill him again after update with last 5 stacks, poped on last one, almost killed me as 68 RDM/ 34 NIN, was tough that fight, again 31 exp. ~ Went back next day, first trade tried a Wild Pamama that i had just gotten off a Opo-opo and he poped right off the bat! Killed him easy with no drop. Yet again 31 exp, just be same lvl every time. I have 10 stacks of reg pamamas so im gonna post back if i get drop.

Finally! after 5 kills, finally got the drop and a pamama^^ (and yet another 31 exp)

Where is its location?
Decided to give this a shot as a 55PLD and 48THF... we cleared area, I traded about 8 1/3 stacks of pamamas and then this mob popped. I engaged, but then a gob and pug popped on me and, needless to say, we got owned.. ; ;
