On my warrior I was unable to find a way to get a great axe or regular axe or any two hander for level 20, but I found this in the auction house for a reasonable amount of money and made the purchase. Was this a mistake? Should I just wait till I see a good great axe on the Auction house or should I use this sword for a while?
i have a flame sword, its 16dmg and fire damage extra and its faster than this sword but, with this sword am gona get an extra +2 dex but a lil slower and dmg is 3points lower should i use this sword for the +2 dex or keep my flame sword? i just realy want the extra 2points dex
Ahhh... that is not exactly true. A BLM has D skill in Dagger & Scythe type weapons. They cap at 200 skill. Sword stays at 0 the whole time.
BLM has no skill in Sword, Shield & Great Axe But a BLM can equip a select few of them. So you can only hit stuff in the beginner zones reliably...
I have used one of these swords as BLM/RDM hoping to skill up sword skill (since my RDM skill is below capped at 37) and have had no luck with skilling at all. I am not positive, but fairly certain you cannot skill them up off a sub.
Sure, an eager NIN would want to lvl up his Katana skill, but when you consider how much faster and more often you would hit with TWO of these, it becomes a clear choice and sadly I've seen only one NIN using this. I will use it when I start lvling NIN again (NIN=20 atm)
For NIN, I wouldn't go with this, but using one of these with the Auriga Xiphos, would be really nice for a RDM/NIN 20+. As an RDM using the small sword I hit for abour 18 - 24 DMG, then add on the enspell effect. Deul wielding two swords would allow the RDM to have upto two hits per round and could double enspells, though in truth it would equal out about the same as just using a sword and shield, but the +2 dex from the small sword and the +2 acc from the Xiphos would help the constency of hitting, and as shields go, you really don't get any good ones until 30, and as a RDM/NIN I would switch to 2 Centurion Swords.
But I would still keep these two for lvl 20 quests, BCNMs and other capped things.
Dual-wield does not mean you hit faster. It just means you can hold two weapons. The delay from both weapons would be added together. As NIN levels, dual wield ability increases and your attack speed increases. The first boost is at 25.
The best Katana for level 19 would be the Suzume, which has damage of 11, and delay 190. If you wanted to keep a Small Sword in your off-hand for the +2 DEX stat boost, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world (though NIN really needs +AGI, not +DEX; he doesn't need to hit more, he needs to Dodge and Parry more, and the AGI will help those plus ranged attack). The individual damage of the katana might be less, but NIN isn't a damage dealer like MNK. It's best weapon skill is Throwing, not Katana. If a NIN wants to keep hate through damage, they should be Throwing until 40 when they get the Ni level wheel.
So a NIN equipping two of these really wasn't doing anything smart. He should be using at least one Katana in his main hand and maybe a stat boosting item in his off-hand, like a sword or dagger.
Everyone is saying how great this is for a Thf... But I think the real beauty is using it as a Rdm. Gives solid damage and an accuracy boost along with a rather low delay? How can you go wrong? And it looks really cool too... well on a Taru it looks like a toothpick... but still!
Just en-spell yourself and go to town, very fun sword for doing that with ^^
How is it that I can hit consistantly with this sword as a 21 blm/whm against EP and DC enemies? The +2 Dex can't be THAT big of a boost, can it? I could almost swear that I miss more with a staff than I do with this. Does skill have less to do with accuracy than I thought it did?
All that I know is that with +7 dex I'd find IT++ cons that only coned IT+ to me and with +11 I never could find any mob we were xping off of that was IT++. So I think Dex plays more of a role than we give it credit for.
I am a BLM and I used this for farming until I got a Corrosive Baselard instead. Since I'd leveled RDM as one sub, and used a sword as an RDM, this was a very handy weapon for me. I'd recommend this for any BLM to farm with provided you've leveled and are subbing a job that can use a sword, but please do not consider using this in a party ever. This is also great for an RDM's solo usage, especially against those mobs that check Even Match High Evasion Low Defense, as is often the case for the Hares in Valkurm at the level this sword is obtained.
I am very pleased with sword but i found only one thing thta surprized me, i bought this sword at the same time i bought my bilbo for later use, it struck me though that the bilbo was 5000 gil and the small sword was only 2000 gil this was quite surprizing. You can probably use this sword for a great deal of time though i have not yet had the chance to field test it.
My Thief, level 23 has Dex with item stats capable of +11 at only level 23!! :
Thf/Nin : Small sword x 2 = Dex4 Balance Ringx 2 = Dex4 Spiked Necklace x 2 = Dex3
Total : Dex 11
These are great, in Qufim, my party was doing around 12 damage per hit on the VT's and IT's and then I would swoop in with a Crit for around 140 and take hate off the War/Mnk and Sam/War who both voked and I still had hate... was brilliant :D (Btw im an Elvaan)
I really like this sword. the +2 Dex is very tasty. I'm using this as a Dragoon, but hear me out. My sub is WHM, and I find that the lower delay for a sword helps you build up TP faster than the spear, and that's a neccesary thing when fighting things that give you debuff. Before you flame me, know that I'm also keeping a Cruel Spear with me for when I fight things that don't give debuffs.
But yeah, I agree with Lobi, you'll do more damage with this over time than with the other swords for this level.
i believe it is. im a level 20drg/war and i pull this out for fun sometimes. the great thing is its so useful and i still deal more damage than other sword wielders. its amazing that even being a dragoon this sword is just as worthwhile as any polearm at this level. i still use a polearm of course. but heading to Qufim it is required for me to carry a sword (i always do anyway) just in case i need to fight undead or clippers.
I highly recommend this sword for all thieves out there.
The +2 DEX really helps when combined with Sneak Attack and it's rather cheap at the AH. Your sacrificing only 2 attack points when getting a small sword over the bigger, more powerful swords. However, you're not wasting at least 3-4,000 gil ANd you're picking up a +2 DEX. How could you go wrong? ;)
I am a thief/warrior and am glad to pick up this lil' gem. It's pretty effective in the dunes.
I am a BLM/WHM considering later getting THF/WAR, to be able to farm easily. I would like to know if I use this sword with my current job, will I get any skill levels up? It would be fun to be able to melee alongside the other fighters as BLM/WHM once in a while, against Even matches and such.....
combined with NIN dual wield, the +2 DEX quickly becomes +4 and paired with rings that also give DEX, this is a great combo. I found that the sword is SUPER cheap (1.5k at AH) and is more than worth the money. Highly recommended
-xXOreoSXx- of the xXGuildXx TaE,KnighT,AphoN,MuG,RurI NakI,SaboteN,GlandreL LS:-> lollipop/solemnity Taru 30 BLM/ 20 NIN/ 10 BST
I think it's funny as hell that a BLM can equip this sword, when they don't even get the sword skill. So unless you have a sword wielding sub, it's pretty much pointless to even draw it. But I have it equipped just for fun.
in all actuality, its an ideal weapon if a BLM wants to ever hit anything and do some damage, but all in all, a BLM meleeing is pretty sad no matter what you're using.

Great for thives, 2 less damage but the +2 to DEX is far more important to a thief. Overall you'll do more damage with this than with the DMG 15's swords you can use at this level (fire sword's fire effect goes off so rarely it's hardly worth it)
