har har har, lots of fun soloing these in Sky with 75BLM, get 240 exp a kill and 1-2 fire clusters to boot.
i think the elementals in east and west altepa are lvl 47 - 49. what lvl do you have to be to solo them?

Confirmed, 34 SAM with good gear needed the help of cures, conned easy prey and was a hard fight. dont recommend till lvl 40 or so.

Hey just wondering, whereabouts in Valkurm do these things spawn? And what would they check to a level 31?

Is there any specific place that these can be found or do they just wander around during the hot weather? My friend (32WHM/18BLM) and I (20RDM/10BLM) want to fight these, but can never find them...

The lowest level Fire Elemntals appear in the Valkurm Dunes and the Meriphataud Mountains. The only problem is that it rarely heat waves in these places. The other problem with the dunes is that the prime spot that they spawn is at a gobbie camp north of the Emp's spawning area, so several high-level players rush up to kill them. I don't think many hunt in the Mountains though.

just to fix one thing Undead mob and demons arrgo to smell only if your HP is in yellow and below
actually, they are agro'ing to low hp, not to scent

undead agro low hp, and no, it is not corrected with deoderize.
check for yourself, get yourself in yellow hp, go to eldieme necropolis and sneak and deoderize yourself. walk to an agroing undead mob (ep+, use dc+ to be sure) and see if it attacks. it will cuz you have low hp, with or without deoderize.

Okey leveling my war in the dunes fighting a crab and the hazy weather icon was up. I shout a warning to the mages and the summoner bout being on the lookout for the elemental and not to use magic. Ok as I was tanking this thing comes behind me resembling an elemental! I was scared but it was a Fire Spirit!

Okay, all of you people trying to be summoners....
First of all, if you need help with the quest, post in the Summoner job forum. Clutters the boards less. :P
Second, get the fire element in Meriphataud Mountains. It's where I got it while only passing through to go to Jeuno for some reason or another.
Third, NOTHING aggros by smell. Smell is used as a pursuant sense. The mobs that use smell will aggro you by anything else, but if you get out of range, it will still track you down with its sense of smell.....use that to your advantage and make big zig-zags to slow down the mob (not to close together, though). This especially works well if Flee or Chocobo Marzuka is active.
*now goes back to grumbling about how Ramuh keeps whooping her *** thanks to pop-ups while she's in the battlefield*

Now, I have camped Fire elementals in The Dunes for quite a long time, Just for fun mostly, while I PL friend's PTs, And I have only found 2 total Fire Elemental spawn points and they are the Gob Campfires, There is 1 North of the Emperor Spawn (Not sure of pos >.<) and the gob fire camp just south of the Zone from the Highlands... Hope this clears some things up! ^^

In the Mountains, I found two of these near the NM spawn points. 6 clusters on two kills, can't beat that. Just be careful when hunting due to the NMs. ^^

where exactly are the spawn points for this one?
To anyone trying to do the SMN quest... find the weather report NPCs in nearby towns and listen to what they have to say. It really helps, for instance, if the NPC in Rabao tells you that there will be a heat wave in 3 days time, rather than you sitting around knowing nothing.
You can get Fire element in either Valkrum Dunes or Altepa Desert
You can get Ice element from Beaucidine Glacier / Xarcabard
You do NOT need to see an elemental, just zone into the area when the element is there. I camped Dunes for an hour while doing other things and that's how I got fire.

yea, this fire element will not i repeat NOT come out ive camped it for 3 days now in every place tnhat has it... all i need it for is the damn summoner quest cant it come out for 5 minutes...? im ready to call square enix and have them make all the weather ice and fire, all i need are those two then im a summoner...if anyone has any info please respond to this message!!!!!!

Ifrit's Cauldron wouldn't work, seeing as how the cutscenes from elements for summoner quest only if you are in an Outdoor zone (Eastern Altepa Desert for instance), not dungeon type areas like Ifrit's Cauldron.

Hmm i killed a Fire Elemental at valkurm dunes over near the lizards and stuff on the east side of the map, just past the sand bat caves

Does anyone know where in dunes these spawn? I've only seen the dunes have fire weather once and before I could give it a good look, it was gone.

I ran across two of them (out of linking distance ^^) in Meriphtaud Mountains yesterday on the way back from Sanctuary of Zi'Tah. As a level 54BLM/27WHM, had no trouble at all, using about 450 of my 690MP. They conned Too Weak.
Approximate map location: (I-7) or (H-7)
2 clusters apiece without Treasure Hunter.

I dunno where there's the most but I got owned by one last night in yuhtunga as soon as fire weather came this thing spawned.
I hadn't seen it (down acliff from where I was) and I had just put deod/sneak/invis on and a minute later it comes and kills me. Even with all my buffs on it could still find me cuz it had aggrod me casting a minute earlier and it came and found me.

They spawn near the gobbie campfires in dunes, if you have a level 30+ they are EP and I can defeat them as a 30whm/15blm no problem. They dont spawn often, but if your looking to up your craft level, and aren't a high level character, this is the best place to get fire crystals. Hope this helps ^^
