Fafnir in Dragon's Aery

    • Respawn time on the ??? is one minute after Fafnir is defeated or despawns.

  • If continually engaged for sixty minutes after being claimed, Fafnir will "rage", resulting in significantly increased attack power.

  • Has a draw-in effect.

  • Grants title: Fafnir Slayer

Fafnir Special Attacks

  • Absolute Terror: Single target Terror effect.

  • Dragon Breath: Frontal cone AoE Fire based magic damage.

    • As with all breath attacks, damage is most potent when standing directly in front of Fafnir. Standing on either of its front feet will mitigate most, if not all, damage from Dragon Breath.

  • Horrid Roar: Single target Dispel effect.

  • Hurricane Wing: AoE magical damage with an additional Blind effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Spike Flail: Massive AoE physical damage (Circle of effect originates from mob).

    • Fafnir will only utilize this ability if its primary target is attacking from behind

Historical Information

Fafnir (in Norse mythology) was the son of the dwarf king Hriedmar, and the brother of Regin and Otr. Armed with the Aegis helmet, or Aegishjalmr, Fafnir served as a guard for his father's golden house. As penance for killing Otr, the trickster god Loki gave Hriedmar the cursed treasure of Andvari, which included the cursed ring Andvaranauts as well as the swords Hrotti and Ridill.

Fafnir and Regin, in wanting the treasures for themselves, killed their father, only for Fafnir to take all the treasure for himself. Upon doing so, he was transformed into a dragon (a symbol of greed in European mythology) and hid away with it. Regin, wanting the treasure for himself, tricked his foster son Sigurd (in some stories, named Siegfried) into killing Fafnir for him, using the sword Balmung to pierce the dragon's heart as he was walking towards the stream he used daily to drink.

Mumu is (was....he quit) Gilgameshs BIGGEST gil buyer. His best friends where GSs and yes i can sadly agree he had every job lvled to 75. I asked him how much of his life he has wasted to get the NO LIFE HAT, his reply was 520+ days.
Oh and he was a major botter to. He would stand at alkyoneus then BHAM dissappear and have pallas claimed *cough* hax *cough*.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 14 2008 at 11:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Was he standing by a hole by Alky? Cause u do realize u can fall down the hole and ... BHAM claim a mob (or pop Pallas fast if u macroed the pop item). I did that twice to claim a reg gigas when alky bracelts were made force pop and everyone was going up there.... and got a GM called on me twice cause people thought i hack warped to the lower level LMAO!!! Btw... If i hadn't pissed them all off i coulda had GS friends too... and if i even cared I could've BEAT his record getting Maat's hat. Nothing you said proves a damn thing.

21-24 hour spawn time, windows are 30 seconds and there are 30 minute timespans between the windows for a total of 7. The chance of him popping increases with each window.

No. Stoneskin is more or less a must outside of tanks, Shell IV also makes a drastic difference.

fafnir story
# Jan 11 2006 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
wow they sure imported this dragon really well from the norse mythology. I remember first hearing about the gram mythology when I played dothack. The angel knight that appeared was called Balmung(Balmung was the sword forged which Siegfried used to kill Fafnir). Wow the Balmung would be a nice sword just to keep myself proud of even if I dont become dark knight. Anyway fafnir looks really intimidating. He is truly my greatest enemy(dragon fan). I'm excited to fight him even if I die.

You know ShadowStrykerX, it's idiots like you that still astonish me. Don't knock someone's comment for being impressed by an aspect of this game. Keep your jackass comments to yourself, please.

Yeah, Fafnir is pretty amazing when you first see it. Fighting Fafnir/Nidhogg is even more amazing the first time around. Excelryu, you'll find plenty of mobs towards endgame that are a joy to fight, even if it spells wipe for you and your friends. Just pick yourself up, change your strategy, and have another go ^^

Fighting Fafnir isn't as grand as fighting the HQ version, Nidhogg.... and even Nidhogg isn't as challenging or intimidating as Tiamat, Jormungand or Vrtra. If you like dragons, go poke Vrtra :o

Someone soloed Fafnir
# Oct 07 2005 at 2:26 PM Rating: Decent
I've just seen a lvl 90 DRG known as Sigurd solo Fafnir, he was standing behind a certain rock and intimidated Fafnir 100 times and never got hit once. After Fafnir died, Sigurd said he got 999999999 Gil and also turned around and hit this guy Regin, his father, for 10000 damage, then he died. And so I ran the **** Away.

After the fight with Bart u sink in the desert. In that cave u meet Melchior. He, Casper and Balthasar are the famous 3 wise men (the 3 holy kings that came to bring presents to Jesus of Nazareth). . . . .

Cloud's sword in FF7, Ragnarok, is also known as "Dawn of the gods" and means the norse "judgement day".

The jp, and seemingly especially Square, like to play with mythology using names, persons and/or places for and in their games.

Just a quick side note...the Bible never actually says that there were only three wise men. It says some wise men brought three gifts...leading us to assume that there were only three men.

Fafnir has around 60,000hp, he goes into crack mode after 1hr of claimed. Fafnir has extremely low resist for an HNM of his level.

yeah GMs can actaully tell if you deleted/mod'ed any .dat file for the game. so if they happen to be at a big HNM like this (which happens) you'll get so banned

This pic is beautiful, though it doesn't really give any indication of its size. I was probably the size of one of its feet (taru)

Dragon's Aery is basically a MPK fest on Quezty when its time for Fafnir or Nidhogg to pop. JP MPK NA, NA MPK JP heh. Its gotten better lately I think. But yeah the day I went to see him, the Jps MPKed the NAs, and then got MPKed back. So I was standing just after the ledge thingy, and this guy sees me and aggroes me. XD Draw in a detah in 2 hits. Pretty weird to get -aggroed- by him since they usually pop claimed or get claimed right after. Then it proceeded to walk around on my body for about 20 mins before the NAs recovered and became the first NAs on our server to kill him...(Yep, our server NAs r pretty behind in end game stuff ;;)

I was thinking of getting a pty together to fight this guy, i mean with the balmung prices the way they are on sylph theres notmuch other choice than that, but neways b4 i spend time on getting a pty put together, does anyone know the balmung drop rates on this? i dont need an actual percentage persay but a good estamate would be nice, if anyone could tell me it'd be much appreciated ^^;
RE: Balmung
# Jun 02 2005 at 2:09 PM Rating: Decent
I don't think its possible to just "get a pt together for him"... >.> It would be a lot better with a HNM ls to go after this guy.

Fafnir is about level 88-90 and respawns every 21-24 hours. It does have True Sight. You obtain Fafnir Slayer for your title.

Just out of Curiosity... Since he IS a Dragon... Does the Dragoon's intimidation trait take effect, or does his NM Status make him immune? I ask because if NMs are immune to this effect... Why even put it in the game? Unless I'm wrong, ALL Dragons are NM. Most are HNM.

Actually, there is one known dragon (at least at allakhazam) that is not NM; Shadow Dragon in Xarcabard (I think it's shadow dragon...). Also, if wyverns are considered dragons, then there are a few non-NM of those, too.

Don't forget the Dragon mobs in the bottom of Kuftal Tunnel (Behind the rock that disappears and reappears... seriously)
Anywho, no, nothing that I know of is immune to intimidation. Including us players. I've seen Seiryu be intimidated by DRG and I've personally intimidated Byakko.
The higher lvl the monster though, the lower the chance of intimidation.
