Tuck this piece somewhere in the back of your mog house and leave it there. This piece of equipment is useless other than having it to store the entire Assassin's set with an armor storage NPC. Dragon Harness/Hecatomb Harness/Scorpion Harness/Assault Jerkin/Homam Corazza/etc. etc. etc. > Assassin's Vest.
Had this drop about 6 times in one dynamis bastok :/ Now have this in my bank XD We ran out of 75 thf's so it went to the highest lvl thf afterwards, and yes, it even reached me, who has a 50 THF xD
is there anyway to find out what %criticals this is? im currently gonna duel weild a heart snatcher and dissector just got both the latents done. so thats 12+5 from when i get full critical merits i only have 2 atm. then stack this vest on and ide like to know a number but i know i have about 20%+ in criticals atm. dissector is actually pritty damn low delay for a sword so deff gona use it.
just got my DM earring last night so just need a brutal 41/75 coins then im done.
hecatomb cap/hands af2 feet working on homam body just need it to drop and shabang. tipple attack+2 and double attack. now just need a justice sword and ill be 100fisting the entire fight.
I was in dynamis bastok today with my DLS and we were havin a good time, I had (Artifact)v2 in my comment, and we set out to do some killin! There are only 3-4 thiefs in our LS so competition for AFv2 is really thin! BUT! Another thief needed the vest as well. Well, we roll in, pull about... 5 mob sets, and it drops. He lots for 340ish, and I pull out a MASSIVE... ( lol actually not massive, but I won the lot! ) 670.
A few 100 mobs later and a dynamis win, I walked away with 4 1bynes and a new bad *** harness to wear when I ding 72 ( Ironically, only 2 of the thiefs in the LS are level 75 lol, and the other 3 are 70 and 71 haha! )
But! we had fun, and I look foward to collecting the entire asassins set!!! /joy
The drop rate on this thing sux. It's as bad as RDM AF2 in Dynamis-San d'Oria(in 10 or so runs there 0 have dropped for the group I used to go with). I have done Dynamis-Bastok roughly 8 times(still haven't won cus ppl dont listen) and this hasn't dropped yet. I got the boots from Jeuno from 2nd run there which we won 2-3 times easily out of 4-5 trips(some trips we lacked ppl and only farmed AF).
That's really funny... my group did Dyn-Bastok today, and THREE vests dropped. THREE. First went to my good friend Verzastyl, second to Ziel, and third... to me. Even though I'm only 70, I was the only Thf main left who needed it in the group. So yay me, and lucky me. I have newfound inspiration for leveling Thief now (besides Warwolf, Dragon gear, and Evisceration) >.>
Ah...the joys of getting my first AF2...and its not even for my main job! Stupid Dynamis-Bastok and its lack of WHM AF2 -.-;; Anyways, this armor just looks so cool on me, as anything does when its on a taru! And the critical hit rate is VERY noticeable, which means its time to get some merits and cap my % critical rate option ^^
I was just thinking about dex being part of the critical hit rate as well as acc. What if the critical hit rate made sneak attack better like the enmity +3 is used for transferring hate. What I'm saying is I'm wondering if critical hit rate would be the same as having +dex for sneak attack. Anyone want to comment on this?
Dex increases SA damage, not crit hit rate. This body is good for ya crit hits, but where crit hits are really nice is on dancing edge though at lvl i doubt you are still using dancing edge. The Agi and emnity are nice for trick attack
It does proc more on too weaks, but it really does not compare at all to mighty strikes. The increase in crits is noticable, but not really by that much.
Woot! Just got this bad boy on my first ever Dynamis run in Bastok :D The critical hit rate is really nice, 4/10 hits are critical.. Though we did all die and lose this dynamis.. I am still very very happy. :)
Just like to thank Hellich (you know why!), and of course the man that made it all happen - Mosthigh.
well i just hit 67 yesterday and im a 5 lvls away from this armor wich i'm may gonna get it but i think i can stay with the scorpion harness wich for me is even better than this i mean better stats at least for me elvaan agi+4 bleh i prefer the acc. at least what i like
It's the way to go for thf. I don't have scorpion harness, and I don't know if I'm ever going to get it, but when I get the Assault Jerkin, it's going to be Black Coteharde when I sata, and when I off sata, my equip is going to include Assault Jerkin. Equip Macros = Impossible to Gauge.
Note: But scorp is probably better for Dancing Edge.
So I'm in the port jeuno AH... I see an AF thf... no big deal... but i notice the vest looks different. I check her... my jaw literally dropped as I saw the Assassins Vest and Assassins Poulaines (sp) Being a 50 thf... I just stared at them for a good 15 minutes... so cool
Oddly enough, THF/nin is better at tanking than any other job combo in game by far. Everything just plain misses. I can solo up to VT easily at 75 THF/nin and rarely have to use more than :ni for blink. The fly in this ointment is that THF are pathetic at holding agro. So, while you can tank really well, actually being the tank is really hard. You need a skilled group of xxx/THF types to trick on you for agro and lots of +enmity.
It's definitely a special-purpose item. By the time you're 65 as a THF, you really should have about 2-3 sets of gear: TP (acc/atk) plus Snick (dex/agi/atk) and maybe a +steal set, too. Good THFs use macros to swap items on the fly during XP for TP or snick+renkei. By the time you're 75 THF, you need 3-5 sets of gear or even more. Add tanking (enmity, evade), pulling (evade), and ranged (r.acc, xbow, holy/bloody bolts).
One of my peeves about FFXI UI (one out of millions) is that you can't switch an entire set of gear with just one macro button. THF is one of those jobs that really desperately *needs* to swap gear all the time mid-fight, too. ><

BTW, my take on +enmity over +dmg gear for trick agro is that +enmity is a waste of a slot. Suppose you do 100 damage with enmity gear that adds 1.2x enmity for the damage. That's 100dam/120enmity. Now you equip +damage gear and do 120 damage for 1x enmity; ie. 120/120 beats 100/120. The real numbers probably aren't so nicely cut and dry, but that gives you the general idea: +enmity just doesn't multiply enough across trick to make it worthwhile.
OTH, +enmity gear is fantastic for helping a THF/nin tank. You will notice a very large gain in your ability to build up agro.
I did some minor and highly subjective tests that kind of support this. If you're curious about +enmity and trick, you could test it yourself. Suspect you'll come to the same realization, though.
Yeah, there is a way to switch all your gear at once with a single macro. It's illegal per game rules, but check out the windower threads over at archibell....
Very nice post. Are you sure though that thf/nin tanking still beats war/nin tanking if not nin/war tanking? I'm 58thf right now, and of course I've never ever though about tanking.
Are you sure that a thf tank + other jobs is really practical as well?
I agree about the emnity+ vs sata stats thing. It's really hard to say which is better though without thorough and annoying testing. I doubt you can tell for sure which is better for tank enmity without running such tests, and the difference is probably in the favor of sata stats because it also adds damage.
I concur with the equip macro thing. Far too many THF still don't use equip macros for levels 50, 60, and even 70+. The thf with equip macros is a significant notch above the thf that does not. When thf reaches the level to equip life belt, such macros are a must-have.
Thf/nin would far out tank any other class in the game. By far best evasion in the game, Parry is as good as our dagger skill, and ustu ichi and ni to back it all up. Add the +13 enmity we get from assassins gear and the insane damage we do if an enemy dare turn its back on us and you are set.
Well, for actuall use in a group with real damagers, it's very hard to use a THF/nin as the main tank because it's so hard for the THF to hold agro. It's not just a matter of "sneak attack if it flips" because if it flips, it eats the mages and then you're all dead. The entire group has to work hard at pacing their damage to the THFs agro so it doesn't flip. It can be done and it's a lot of fun to make it work, but it's not something you choose to do when you have a war/nin or nin/war around.
Quick hard agro beats tanking ability by a mile. This is why PLD/war is the prefered tank even over war/nin and nin/war when you have all the right support jobs available. PLD agro can't be beat. A PLD with a nice SMN blink+stone rotation out-tanks everything. The entire alliance can unload at will and never flip it.
The time you might find yourself tanking as a THF is when you need a tank that you don't have to heal much to keep alive. Windurst Rank10 BC fight is an ideal example. Stick a THF/nin on the manticore to keep it busy and then go kill the wyvern. Your healers won't need to heal the THF much (or even at all) and can focus on keeping the kamikazi taru and your real tank alive while killing the wyvern. If the taru doesn't kill the manticore for you, then the team can switch and go kill it.
Or, in dynamis when you only have one blink tank, the THF/nin puller can kite and tank any number of statues until the real blink tank is ready for another one. [FYI for those new to Dynamis, blink tanks hold agro on statues while BLMs kill them (statues have such have def that melee can't kill them). Non-BLMs are all focusing on killing the beastmen.]
Or, when your friends all want to do some NM or quest and you don't have a real tank. You can tank as THF for 'em if they pace their damage and if you've worked on your enmity and evade gear.
indeed. u know how PLDs r sooooo touchy about their ability to hold hate? thats why they love THFs who TA or SATA onto them properly. giving a THF added emnity only increases the TA effect. RNG says: cmon tank, cant u keep him off me for 10 seconds? PLD says: i could if u wouldnt keep usin barrage and sidewinder. RNG says: theres gotta be a way for u to hold hate and me still do uber-damage... THF says: hey tank, stand in front of me. ;) PLD and RNG say: w00t!
I saw this on a Galka once...Please note that Galka should NEVER wear any harnesses nor this armor, i swear it was like seeing my father being a stripper! >< NEVER!!
Yes they have, in one of the updates, or something in Information, they said lvls for Chains of Plak;askd;lkjasdf;lkjf (For the love of god i cant spell that!!!) would be raised past lvl 75. No clue if thats means lvl 76 or to lvl 700000 but im pretty sure it will be like 5-10 lvls. I assume 80 but no clue.
what you're PROBABLY thinking of is the implementation of a system of "Merit Points" which let you increase stats with exp you gain at lvl 75. I've read nothing about them raising the lvlcap and I doubt they will anytime soon.
I'd advice not wearing a cotehardie -- particularly not during Dynamis. You'll die a TON from Mijin Gakure JA by the ninja critters. The -Fire stat is just too painful. Too many critters have very large fire AE attacks and not just in Dynamis.
It sure looks cute on a Mithra, but unfortunately, cute doesn't make up for dead.
