Summary

Retrieve some Orcish Dried Food from a storage hole in Davoi. Sharzalion will let you in on something in return.

Walkthrough

Talk to Sharzalion, who is at the bar in the tavern in South San d'Oria. If you're a level 40+ Red Mage, he'll give you the quest and tell you he wants some Orcish Dried Food.

Go to Davoi and head to E-10. Make sure you use sneak and invisible, to avoid being attacked by orcs hiding on ledges. When you reach E-10, clear the area and then examine the ??? at F-9, beneath the small log bridge. A notorious monster named Purpleflash Brukdok will appear. Kill the NM orc, which is a black mage, and it drops a Davoi Storage Key.

Next you have to find a storage hole to trade your key to. There are multiple locations about Davoi where the storage hole might spawn. A few locations are near the zone toJugner Forest, some are in the deeper parts of the zone and a couple are on the center island, which requires passing through Monastic Cavern to reach. The best way to find a storage hole is to run around, scrolling your cursor across your surroundings. Once you find one, trade your key to the storage hole to acquire the Orcish Dried Food.

Return to Sharzalion and talk to him to receive your Fencing Degen.

well, me and a few of my ls buddies went and pwn'd the orc... they all left cause they had things to do, and I wandered around Davoi for about 5 min. and poof, there's the storage hole... AF1 complete, total time, about 1 hour
Sooo Long

When I beat Brukdok I thought i was past the hard part, but man was i wrong. It took me 4 hours just to find the stupid Storage Hole. It turns out the place where I found it was just on the other side of the fence where my party had beaten Brukdok earlier. man, that was a fruitless day, but at least i got my degen and didn't die once ^^ BTW, I was wondering if Rangers could spot Storage Holes with their Wide Scan because if they could...

They are like mining/logging/etc points, so therefore no Widescan can't detect them.

Killed this today as a 65 White Mage , was helping my son who is 41 RDM , he was pretty easy to beat , kept using Thundaga and some other spells that would knock me down to 500 HP , my son kept refreshing the both of us and we had plenty of MP to keep curing ourselves whenever he casted these spells .

Ok, just got done fighting this NM twice (first time the rdm accidentally passed on the key) and it was a rather long fight.

Fought it as a 57blm/whm with a 49rdm/blm. Don't bother nuking, you'll go through your mp to quickly. I just used my scythe the whole battle and slowly but surely knocked him down. I think I casted two blm spells the whole fight. The RDM kept the debuffs up the whole time, this was pretty essential. Blind is such the great spell.

Battle started out like this: Blink/Stoneskin/Refresh then start laying into him melee style with my scythe. RDM debuffed. When Stoneskin wore off, I'd recast. RDM melee'd and we gradually tapped it down. (This thing has a lot of hp.)

Drain and Aspir were working wonders for me. I was draining for 160+ hp and aspiring for close to 100 each time.

We just kept tapping it down until it finally died. Most of the spells he was casting weren't doing to much damage. Waterga II maybe did 100 damage to me and the rdm.

Another thing to note is: The ??? you examine, the boss wasn't spawning the second that i pressed it. It was probably a good 30-45 seconds before it actually spawned. I went looking around for it and when I came back it was there.

Storage Holes

You can spot the Storage Holes by moving your camera view towards "over head" view. You will see a spot on the ground that looks like a tarp (or animal skin) stretched out (over the hole) in the shape similar to a spiders web. If you have not finished this quest and are having trouble finding the Storage Hole, mark these spots on your map as you find them so you can go to each one faster on successive searches. These spots are visible even if it is not the current Storage Hole, I searched for them immediately after finding the correct Storage Hole and received the Dried Orchish Food and found several of them.

finally completed the quest after a few hours of searching.
i had help killing the NM from 2 LS members, so that went easy, then for the search.... took about 3-4 hrs, but when i found the hole it was close to this plant/flower look alike thing, that might be a clue to the spawn points so look for em, idk if thats really it but it could be (btw i found it on L-7)

Me and my bro took him on. I was 56 BRD/WHM he a 73 BLM/SMN. I Couldn't silence him, but he didn't stand a chance.

Safe to say all you need to do is start the quest, and you can fight the NM as any job and still get the drop. It also worked against the Wandering Ghost NM for the MNK AF1.

Hope that helps.

# Mar 06 2005 at 8:54 PM Rating: Decent
I'm going to attempt an solo this NM, with my friends advice (75RDM). It's a Lv40 NM with a hefty amount of hp and should take awhile to defeat it, but I have large amount of hp aswell being elvaan and all heh. Whatever happens ill post the consequence. Wish me luck!

umm, bad idea. This guy has extremely huge amounts of HP, and is more than lev 40 - as I got aggroed by him a few days ago as RDM52.

I saw him where he pops by the Disused Well and was trying to get some high level thf, etc to help me kill him. All of a sudden, he starts casting like Thundaga II on me... ^^

I said what they hey and tried to go after him to see how much HP I could take from him - but it wasn't going well. Of course the fact that I was about to Convert right when he agggroed me didn't help much either (almost no MP). I got out in time (Chainspell/Convert/Warp), but he is tough.

I tried taking him on earlier as RDM50 with good equip. Bad idea solo - unless I'm just having bad luck with timing. I tried the sleep II and rest trick with him the first time around, but a rng mob linked so that didn't help much. *smile* I just want this cheesy sword so I can get the rest of my AF - Buzzard Tuck seems much better to me than this sword.

i did this last night with no problem. I asked a lvl 61 drk who was looking for pt in davoi if she'd help me (thanks Twins!!!) and she ran over to the nm, slapped him around in under a minute, and i got the key. Then i just kept my sneak/invis on, made 1 lap of the major wide open areas on the map and found the hole, yay!

So if you can find a friendly high lvl person that doesn't mind whippin **** on purpleflesh, then you should be good to go.

Thanks for the info on this, back to lvling for me!!

First off i set this up in 10 mins,My LS helped me out and we farmed the hell outta this area too. We had an alliance so obviously this was pathetically easy. we killed him in about 1 min, then escaped and ranbackinto davoi.. off to the right after ebtering under a tree was the storage hole, didnt need invi or sneak got item and was done with this in less than 5 mins. I`d recommend getting a pt going to farm the area and do this quest while ur at it, ou`ll have an easier time getting a pt formed. Hope this`ll help someone.
My Storage Hole
# Feb 20 2005 at 10:58 PM Rating: Decent
Just did this today with the help of my LS. Got a few screen caps too. But the only storage hole i found happened to have the food. ht hole was located at the L-7/k-7 boundary line underneath a tree. I'm luck that it was surround by nothing more then cursemakers, fighter and serjeants which i've dealt with since i was lvl 25.

When you get the key don't forget to try this storage hole spawn point!

After reading the posts and suggestions last night I decided to go and try my hand at gettin' AF1. I shouted in Jeuno for about 30min before I got a taker (no members avail on LS), which happened to be another RDM, RDM67. So off we set to Davoi...got there, waited for the spawn, did all our buffs as normal and voila, there he was. While I didn't find this mob particularly hard defense-wise, he has a massive amount of hp and some nasty AoE attacks, plus he used Manafont twice (once in my battle and once in battle prior to our turn). I had thought that was only a 2HR for any BLM NPC or PC...hehe guess not. I went into the yellow only when he used like Firaga II, etc type AoE, and RDM67 kept having to recast Stoneskin/Phalanx when those knocked it out.

So, the RDM keeps hacking, i'm hacking away, Refreshing, healing, and with enfeeb and elemental skills capped, I only got Dia2, Choke, Rasp, Shock to stick...threw in an occasional Drain. The other RDM kept tossing in an occasional nuke and cured me when I had to Convert. After 3min30sec he goes down...lotted for the key, found the hole and it was done.

Hope this helps those RDMs lookin for more info. :-)

I just killed this guy with a friend of mine, hes a lvl 51 monk. The monk had to two-hour but we made it through ok. It was funny how we found him though....

I wasnt sure where he was. I was sittin' where I thought he was supposed to be but didnt see him. We were both recovering from a fight we had just finished, and my high lvl Blm friend was on his way to meet us....

Blm: So where is this NM?
Me: I'm not sure, but I think its supposed to be right here
Purpleflash Brukdok begins casting poison
Mnk: OH ****

lol, I was scared but we managed to kill him after a few minutes without plenty of HP to spare, before the Blm even found us ^_^

now i just gotta find a storage hole......
Whats wrong with all of you?

I myself don't have RDM very high, but I'm quite familiar with this NM, he's CAKE, the first time I took him down I was a lvl 53 DRG waiting for my mythril lance to sell so I could pay for my Holy lance, when my buddie asks me to come help him with this thing. He managed to silence it, and here I was whacking the hell out of it with my own AF1 for over 100 dmg a hit, getting all hits on Penta thrust, and putting the hurt on him big time. Since then I've fought this thing 4 more times, not once did I die doing such, so if a lvl 53 DRG with a slightly outdated lance (at the time) can hurt it so bad, why can you complain about it?

After about 10 minutes of shouting in jeuno i got a level 65 drk, after getting to davoi, purpleflash was just sitting there waiting for us, i cast refresh kept the drk cured while not getting any hate from purpleflash or the other orcs in the area, now i have to go find a storage hole, shouldn't be hard, i expected to die so i have a nice buffer so i won't delevel when i drop invis to get the meat!

*sigh* I've been running in circles around the first area of Davoi for over an hour now. No storage hole :(

Edit: After about 4 and a half hours of no storage hole, I gave up and went back to Jeuno. The next day, my 62NIN buddy offered to go back and look for it with me. It took about 10 minutes to find it.... I must just be bad luck!

Wow.. almost died >.<
# Jan 26 2005 at 4:51 PM Rating: Decent
That fight, I must say, was a struggle being lvl 43 RDM. I had a Lv 55 PLD and a Lv 55 RDM with me and we all almost died. I kept refresh on the PLD while the RDM tanked as a RDM/NIN. I kept Phalanx and Stoneskin on myself at all times since he would turn around and try to hit me sometimes. After the fight that lasted about 5-10 minutes they had to log. So I was stranded in Davoi. I knew my way back though so that wasnt a problem.

Next, I was like... hmm Imma need help getting the Storage Hole without aggro.. lucky me.. it spawns right infront of me lol. So I uninvis and trade the key. I was like Yes! I got it!... then I get aggro'd. So I cast sleep quickly and then I get linked.. I slept both mobs and Instant warp'd out of Davoi as fast as I could lol.

To bad my hp was set in Jeuno lol. So Im on airship headin back now to get my sword.

I helped my friend do this quest. As a level 56 PLD/WAR, I had no trouble taking this guy down. My RDM friend backed me up with heals and refresh, but the only thing threatening about this mob is he nukes like crazy, and he has alot of HP, prolly more then the Robber Crabs my parties have been fighting for xp. Dispite the high HP count, he's pretty weak attack and defense wise, Fast blade did damage around 250 and being a PLD, I hardly noticed his physical attacks. The big danger from him are his spells, one AOE spell was enough to put my RDM friend into yellow, so lower levels will prolly have some problems. He's defininently not in his 50's though, else I'd prolly barely scratch him, hehe. More like 45 with the HP of a mob in the high 50's.
My Story
# Jan 04 2005 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
I started this quest as a lvl 44 RDM/BLM with help from a lvl 56 BLM/WHM. I could get to the Purpleflesh Brukdok spawn area np (which is not where the curren post shows it to be), and I did not have to examine the ??? for him to pop. (By the way, when you do examine that [because I did later], it says something like, "This soil is moist and out of the sunlight.") He was there when my friend and I went there, so we didn't have time to clear the area of orcs first. Purple agroed to me (obviously) and another orc linked. I kept sleeping the other orc while my friend and I meleed Purple. The only spells we used were sleep (for the other orc), refresh, cure III, paralyze, drain, aspir, and firaga just for the heck of it. I used convert once, and we had no problem at all defeting Purple and his little friend. I am, however, still looking for that blasted storage hole location >.< If you are on the bahamut server and happen to see it, send a /tell to Enormity, please ^_^

I just submitted a correction. I have helped many with this quest and the guide above is wrong.

The NM for this Quest is actually in the connecting area right at where E-9 and F-9 meet (sorta widens out by a tree. the area heading to that ramp going over the fence). He is not spawned by a ???, but will automaticaly spawn on his own. Spawn rate is about 10 minutes. Also, he is silencable, but I'm 59 RDM with Elem seal and it rarely sticks but hey, try it anyway ^^ Happy hunting all you red mages ^^ If youre on carby send me a tell. I love tanking this thing :)
