Summary

Some strange occurrence from 20 years ago is now casting a shadow on the growth of the star tree saplings. Two of the ex-ministers may have an idea of the cause. After receiving instructions from them, head to Jeuno and then on to the Northlands.

Walkthrough

Talk to Chumimi in Heaven's Tower to being this quest. You will be asked to go to Jeuno at the request of the two doctors investigating what is happening to the Star Tree.

When you get to Jeuno's Ru'Lude Gardens, talk to Laityn for another cutscene.

Then you are asked to go to Crawler's Nest and kill a Water Elemental. You need to find a Bag of Seeds. The water elementals in Crawler's Nest drop these often.

After you get the bag, go back Heaven's Tower and give it to Chumimi.

Then go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and kill Demon Commanders, Demon Generals, Demon Chancellors and Demon Magistrates to get a Whine Cellar Key.

Bring the key to Castle Zvahl Keep and use it at the west Ore Door at (H-7) for a cutscene and a key item. After the cutscene, bring the key item back to Chumimi in Heaven's Tower to get your Wizard's Sabots.

Key Item
# Jun 20 2004 at 8:12 PM Rating: Excellent
When you trade the Whine Cellar Key to the Ore Door you receive a Key Item entitled "Foe Finder Mk. I". The cutscene is very short, and your key breaks. I believe the position of the Ore Door to open is H-7. It's to the left of an Iron Bar door; a very sneaky spot.
Hope this information helps someone.
<Hmmm.>

Now, when I first read this mission (Which, the mission briefing itself is absolute junk) I was figuring it wouldn't be a problem.

I trailed up there with 8 other players ranging from DRK to PLD, RDM-THF to do their AF3. (Ranging mostly 55-60) The inecentive for my assistance was we were going to go kill something for this key.

I get in there and after get purely lost for a good long time, manage to find the whole you're supposed to drop down.

You look down, there's nothing in there. You drop down, there were 7 monsters in there to include a Demons Dark Elemental and 3 Demon Commanders.

Needless to say, half of the PT died almost instantaneously.

How a PT of 3 level 55 players can dream to pull this off is beyond me.

I seriously think a team of 3 level 75 players would still have their hands full. Purhaps I just fell down the wrong hole. It's a huge hole in the ground.

But, for all intensive purposes, here's how I got there:

-Enter the castle and take the only path you can progress on until I got the the first intersection.

-Take the first left.

-Followed the corridor and ignored the Iron Gate to my right.

- Went down the shot set of steps.

- Went right around the corner.

- Then left.

- There was a fork where you could go left or right. We went left because right was a dead end.

- Followed this path and came out on the opposite side of where you fight Dark Spark, just on a lower floor.

- Followed the corridor still, hugging the lefthand wall.

- Ignored the break between the two higher floor platforms and kept going till we started seeing Orcs.

- Got all the way to the end where there were Orc Gladiators and whatnot.

- Got up on said platform. Saw a huge hole that if measured relationaly to us inreal life would have to be about 30+ foot wide. It looked like a gladiator pit. As if onlookers would watch from above as someone threw some helpless meatsack in there for lion food.

- Dropped down, and suddenly ALOT of demons spawned. It was as if they all spawned. The didn't see me at first. Like my character model was still loading or something and I had time to run away.

- Got a free trip back to Jeuno.

That's about as far as I got. Going to go explore some more today probably.

Hmm... I never spoke to the guy in Jeuno.

I got the Bag of Starseeds, and went to Windurst.

Talked to Chimimi and activated the quest, then immediately handed her the item after the cutscene.

Then got the second half of the quest from Shantotto to go up to Xarcabard and flag down a Demon Commander.

Hmm... I'll go speak to the guy anyway.
huh?

Just for the hell of it I tried trading the bag of seeds to the dude in rulude... he says "What is this you have found? A simple bed?"... im like wtf!? a simple bed? where the hell did that come from! so i do it again... this time he says "What is this you have found? a pile of chocobo beddings?" ... either the developers drasitaclly messed up the translation or there's more you can do wit that guy. i cant even find "a pile of chocobo beddings" on any item list for this game...

Here is my interpretation/translation, with credit to Bootaru and the helpful anonymous poster for providing the framework and insight:

Recollections (BLM AF2)
Zone: Heaven's Tower
NPC: Chumimi
Reward: Wizard's Sabots

Walkthrough:
First get the quest from Chumimi and go back to Jeuno. Talk to Latyin in Ru'lude Garden in Jeuno (big dude around the corner from the AH).

Go to the large ball room (where the Exorays are) in the Crawlers' Nest and wait for rain weather to come (you can check the weather in Rolanberry Fields). When the Water Elemental appears, kill it and get the Bag of seeds.

After you get the Bag of seeds go back to Windurst and trade them to Chumimi and after that you go to Castle Zvahl Bailey.

Here sneak/invisible is must and you have to look for a demon called Demon Commander who drops the "Whine Cellar Key". The demons that drop the key are at the bottom of the holes located in Castle Zvahl Bailey (not Castle Zvahl Keep as posted in the quest), and it seems like any of the demons can drop the key. People say they have found them on mobs that aren't a Demon Commanders, so don't just kill Commanders for the key. It's not hard drop so you should be able to get it quickly. The best place to hunt for these monsters is where there's a big circlular ditch, you fall down and camp the hallway to the right.

After you get the key, go to Castle Zvahl Keep. Go right at the end of the long hallway, go through the iron gate into the room full of goblins. Turn immediately right and dround the corner to your right (stay to the right) and there will be another Iron Gate and an Ore Door. This is the one you want to use your key on (trade key to the door to start cutscene, have to drop invis).

I hope to be doing this quest very, very soon (within the next level).

I'm probably missing something extremely obvious. I'm to the point of needing to use the Whine Cellar Key, but don't know how to get into Castle Zvahl Keep. If I understand the map correctly, it's the gate near the two torches where Dark Spark spawns. Yet I don't know how to get through the gate. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks. :)

You don't enter through there. Enter through one of the entrances to either side of the gate. To do this, go north or south at the intersection just before the long run to the Dark Spark fight area. Running through these ditches requires sneak/invis like any other part of castle zvahl.

ok I found out, first you have to goto the area with the holes which you fall down which is when you enter and hit the cross section in the first area to the north or south. then u goto th elower section and then go to the west entrance at the lower section. After that you enter go to the upper section of the hooles area of the map. Then you have to walk west and then go back to the lower section. then on the map you will see in the western middle there is a section which is where you want to go. you cannot walk straight west from the bridge because there are gates blocking the way. all in all this was a pain in the butt since it was my first time here

ok i've been waiting for rain to come to rolanberry for a long time, under weather, does anyone know for sure that it has to be water weather in rolanberry for water weather in crawler's nest?!?!

also somone told me that they got thier seeds off a fire elemental
RE: questions wha?!!
# Feb 24 2004 at 2:29 AM Rating: Default
There needs to be a water drop next to your compass while you are in Crawlers Nest for water elementals to spawn. No idea if other elementals drop the seeds.

I'd hate to see your posts when you try the 2nd part if you can't figure this part out...

# Feb 09 2004 at 1:21 PM Rating: Default

Ok, I did this last night, and I'd have to say it would have been a lot easier with the right information. The demons that drop the key are at the bottom of the holes located in Castle Zvahl Bailey (as posted below, not Castle Zvahl Keep as posted in the quest), and it seems like any of the demons can drop the key. We got mine off one that wasn't a Demon Commander, so don't just kill Commanders for the key.

Also, the location of the Ore Door should be clarified as there are several, and if you're trying to get to it solo with Sneak and Invis it sucks to go to the wrong one (trust me!). So go right at the end of the long hallway, go through the iron gate into the room full of goblins. There will be another iron gate on your left, ignore it. Walk around the corner to your right and there will be another Iron Gate and an Ore Door. This is the one you want to use your key on (trade key to the door to start cutscene, have to drop invis).

Just to confirm, the second part finding the door and opening it can be done solo with Sneak and Invis. Getting the key definitely requires a party of low to mid 50s.

I tried trading the Key to both doors.. maybe it didn't work because I'm too short (Taru, and yes I've had this problem before, like reaching switches in Castle OJ) but doing this killed me. I tried trading WC Key to both of the Ore Doors in that room you speak of.
1st Ore Door on the Left has more Ore doors behind it that lead up stairs. 2nd Ore door on the Left has a room with a Gob in it.

Still gonna try solo again, but after eating 2 deaths at 55 with no raise, I'm quite discouraged right now. /cry

This guide was pathetically done so I will go over it in my own words:

The quest will take you about 4-6 hours, if you get lucky maybe 2 hours. Get your self a high level player (one is enough) helping you out, probably level over 65.

First get the quest from Chumimi and go back to Jeuno. Talk to Latyin in Ru'lude Garden in Jeuno (near the AH).

The most boring and annoying part is to go Crawlnest and wait for rain weather to come. I'd suggest check weather for Rolanberry Field and time it. When Water Elemental appears, kill it and get the seed.

After you get the seed go back to Windurst and talk to Chumimi and after that you go to Castle Zvahl Bailey.

Here sneak/invisible is must and you have to look for a demon called Demon Commander who drops the "White Cellar Key". It's not hard drop so you should be able to get it quickly. I find best place to hunt for these monster is where theres big circle ditch, you fall down and camp on hall way to the right (sorry I dont have a clue about this area since I dont have map and high level guide me through it).

After you get the key, go to Castle Zvahl Keep, after long straight hall way make a right turn toward Iron Gate, open it turn right again and theres Ore Door on the left, use your key on it and CG will occur (becareful, there's ALOT of gob in this room and you have to turn off invisible to use the key).

After this you go back to Windurst and get your sabot, enjoy. ^^

First off, you get a bag containing seeds off the Water elemental. These are not hard to beat in fact some PT's that have been leveling in that range (45-49) have been able to kill it without much hassle. This is a Rare/Exi item and is a gauranteed drop.

Second off, you don't have to only kill the demon commanders. Any of the demons in that area have a chance of carrying it on them. PLease don't only hunt Commanders because you will most likely find it on another one anyway.

Side Note: you ned to be level 52 to equip the Sabots. And you need to complete this quest to do AF3.

Unless you don't know anything about this game...you should use ctrl+c to check how tough the elemental is. For me at level 50 the water elemental in crawlers' nest checked as tough. I can't imagine how badly you got slaughtered...
RE: slaughtered
# Jan 20 2004 at 2:41 PM Rating: Default
You need to have at least 3 members at 55 or a full PT at 52 to safely take that. and on a side note, SMN sub for BLM's is useless, especially since you don't have all the Summons and it isn't even 25 yet.
RE: slaughtered
# Jan 30 2004 at 4:24 PM Rating: Decent
Actually blms don't use the smn for the summons they use it the same reason whm sub smn. Max mp boost and mp refresh abilities. You're not as versatile as a blm/whm or whm/blm but you have about 200more mp at lv60 which is a good deal of healing/dmg power with added regen.

but at your level, it's more useful to level it, or have a higher lvl whm cuz that 20 MP isn't gonna break ya or save ya..
