SummaryThe star tree saplings at the farm in the basement of Heavens Tower aren't growing very well. Doctor Shantotto and co. have ordered an investigation to try and solve the problem. Help them by bringing back a glowstone from the crevasse of Xarcabard. WalkthroughOnce your black mage is level 40, go to Windurst Walls and enter Heaven's Tower. Walk down the stairs to the basement of the giant tree and speak with the NPC Chumimi. You will receive a cutscene, after which Shantotto will ask you to toss a Faded Crystal into the gorge in Xarcabard. She asks you to bring back a Glowstone. First, you must obtain a Faded Crystal. To do this, get one of any type of crystal and head to any of the teleport crags. Trade your crystal to the crag to receive your Faded Crystal. Next, head to Xarcabard. You can get there either by teleporting (if you have the teleport crystal), or by traveling through Ranguemont Pass and Beaucedine Glacier. Also make sure you have silent oils or prism powders, or that you can cast sneak or invisible. Once in Xarcabard, head due west until you see lights shooting out from a steep hillside at E-8. There are two "???" here, and the one that's inside the gorge surrounded by the lights is the one you want. You do not want the one that's on a cliff with the torch. Try to clear out the surrounding demons. Trade the faded crystal to the "???" and a Chaos Elemental will appear. It is a Light Elemental based NM, so most Black Magic spells will inflict extreme damage to it. If you must run away, the elemental will eventually go back into the gorge and you will need another faded crystal to call upon it again. Once the fight is over the monster will drop a Glowstone. Get the glowstone then go back to Windurst Walls. Enter Heaven's Tower and approach Chumimi again. Trade the glowstone to Chumimi to receive your Casting Wand. Solo'd as a 68 Sch/Rdm went in w/stoneskin and phalanx. Didn't need them though, when ss wore off it only hit for 14 to 16 dmg. Took my time, couple fire III's and a Pyrohelix. No sweat.
Just kicked the snot out of this as a 72whm/31nin was slow but easy fight didnt have to worry about aggro and it only got through stoneskin 3 times but meh hp never went under 1k hp took about 10-15 min for fight i took my time and my ws only did about 100hp a shot because thye are mainly light based
the wand sucks imho but need it so i can do af for my blm when it gets higher level

Just soloed it with NIN/WAR 61. Could't be easyer.

I was there a while ago gettin ice weather for smn quest and thought i might as well get the af too. I went there at Lightsday (57 blm) and when i was ´bout too start the fight it turned 2 darksday and every demon dissapered... dont know if this was luck but at least there were no demons at the start of darksday... so no agro;-) hope this might help.
The fight was pretty easy used a melonjuice had stoneskin-icespikes on. casted bio-aspir-drain- and blizzard did very good 2 (ice weather)when the elemental was at 1/5hp i used 2hr-dont really think i had 2 but rather safe than sorry i thought ;-). finished it with 500hp+ and 140mp so no problem. this was done blm 57.

I did it solo by lvl55BLM/RDM, you can invisable and sneak to the E-8 ???, you just becarful the demons and find the safe place the demons will not go. (recomment upside floor of the ???), you also can buff here and get rest wait the mp full and when you see the demons is far away the ??? kick out the invisable and click the ???, run to the safe place and kill it, use Burn can low the mob INT and when your HP low then 70% use 2 hours and heal yourself, Asipr the mob mp and none stop cast magie. hope this message can help you ^^

This qst was really easy, my 61 rdm killed it in no time. my question is...since i have started this af set i have decided that i would rather do smn as my next job. is it possible to get smn af without finishing blm? the only blm af i have done is this wand atm. please let me know if this is possible. /t Vodantes on Shiva or leave a thread and ill check back in a day or two. please and thank you!! ^^
smurl is correct about the af thing, you can have more than one af quest open at a time, and his suspicion about the af gloves is correct, even though you can have more than one af quest set running, for some reason af gloves (if you started it on blm) has to be completed before doing it on a new job^^
No, you don't need to finish your BLM AF before moving on to SMN. The quests are independant of one another, and for the regular coffers, you'll need to be that job ( that is, the job whose AF you are trying to obtain ) when you pop the coffers.
One possible exception to this rule would be the AF gloves quests. I've never had two or more AF glove quests open at the same time, so I can't rightly say what would happen. I know that you can open the coffer as any job once you've opened the quest and still obtain the Old Gloves/Gauntlets, so I'm not sure what would happen if you had two of Boghertz's quests open. Can anyone else clarify this point?

Did this solo as RDM70/BLM30, really easy fight, about 1/2 way through, I did elemental seal, chainspell and aero III, it went bye bye in seconds! I should have just done that from the start! LOL.

just soloed this as 60 summoner no need to even clear out the demons. Shiva ftw!!

I just did this NM today with 3 of my friends. We had a drg(75) drk(63) and a whm(64). and me and i was a 42 blm. This thing was really easy and with a few ppl you can do with no problem. It went down in 30 seconds or so. Watch out for the demons though, they get in the way a bit if you don't [Red][/Red]kill them first.
i just soloed this thing at level 64 Blm. a lil late on AF but easy fight i just casted tier 3 spells. used aspir and drain once. blizzard 3 did best damage. oh and no argoe from the 3 demons lookin at me fight^^

This is the weakest NM i have ever seen, Yesterday i got my BLM to 41 and decided to get my AF1 with a friend so we went off to Xcabard (mind the spelling) we had to kill about 20 deamons to make sure we wouldnt get aggroed by them when killing this. so we buffed up with protectIII (my friend was a 61PLD/WAR) when i gave the crystal to the ??? it started attacking, i looked at my chat window it hit me for about 7 damage and my frien for about 4 this is no problem at all as long as u bring at least 2 people (and if not a WHM lots and lots of prisim powders) we killed it in about 3 mins and it was a great skill up because magic was innefective

You have to be a level 40 BLM to get the quest.
just finished this as a 51blm/whm (normally sub rdm but thought i could help dead people on the way with whm)
anyway...
with the awsome assistance of Maximilianbob lv 70 rdm. he whopped this thing to Elshimo and back with the aswome rdm 2hr. threw off lv.III spells like nothing... it lasted ohhh... 25 seconds... maybe.

i was helping someone shouting in jeuno a while back with my 75RNG (soloing the chaos elem) and just as i was about to kill him the guy DC'd .. leaveing me with the stone as a free drop .. he came back and we finally got his glowstone ..
but i told you that to tell you this part .. i already had the glowstone from that incodent when i started to elvel my BLM .. at level 40 i went and started the quest and ended the quest all in 1 stop .. without ever haveing to zone out or anything
BLM AF1 quest took me all of 45second ..lol
guess it really does pay to help out your fellow players in your free time

Tried to solo this at 55BLM/27WHM today. I was kinda nervous, especially when I got to the gorge. The 2 demons that spawn near the ??? were rather close, and a third a ways up, but still in linking range. So I figure, to he** with it, I'll wait till they all are turned around,pop it and see what happens.
So I wait for like 20 minutes for the demons to break up from their love making session to pop it, and immediately hit Water III. It hit for 20 points below full strength at 343...And it's HP bar barely moved....
At this point, it's like aw man....>_> those things are gonna aggro -_-;
So I aspir it to regain some of the MP and hit Stone III, which also hit for about full strength but had barely dented the Ele. I got kinda discouraged at this point.
I got rather close considering the demons were Easy Prey. The ele had around half his HP and I around 2/3 MP when the surrounding demons aggro'd. This is where I thought..."I choose LIFE". Manafont+Warp. Thank god the BLM 2hr allows for uninterupted spellcasting, or I would've been a mass of taru flesh and midget bones. I got back to Jeuno with 54 HP...Happily disregarding the attempt and began looking for help, which I never received.
Anyway, if anyone would be able to help out lemme know. I'm on usually in the afternoon.

The ??? to spawn the elemental is suspended in space in a crevice west and somewhat down from the Castle entrance. Because of it's position, you might not be able to find it by spamming tab, so look carefully.

I went with a linkshell 2 Xarcabard at lvl 32 O.O cuz they were doing BLM AF1 for sum other guy (I got kicked the same day ;_;) and I got aggroed twice. thats it. I walked from sandy 2 teh chaos element and 2 aggros. all u gots 2 worry about is if u have friends to help you. Now go get'm tiger! [Yellow][/Yellow]HEY TONY! I like the things you do! HEY TONY! I did this as a BLM52. I had avoided doing this quest for the longest time, since the Casting Wand is complete junk compared to some of the other equipment that's available. However, once I got to 52, I needed to start doing the rest of the quests for my AF, so I needed to do this one. So off to Xarcabard I went.
I actually tried soloing this first. (More on this later.) And I came damn near to doing it, but I ran out of MP, so I enlisted a RDM66 friend to help me with this. Now, even at 66, the demons still aggroed him. It was just the two of us, and we had to come up with a plan. The plan ended up being a slight variation of the one I had used when I had tried to solo it. Here's what we did:
- RDM and I Teleport-Vahzl and get to the ???
- RDM drops Invis, which catches the attention of all of the demons in the immediate area.
- RDM intentionally trains all of the demons to Castle Zvahl. This leaves me completely alone with the ???, and no aggro in sight.
- I trade the Faded Crystal to the ???, and the Chaos Elemental spawns. I immediately throw down Elemental Seal + Bind, and then move out of casting range and sneak and invis myself. I make sure that I'm far enough away that the elemental isn't going to take my invis off. This involves running a wide arc around the bound elemental.
- I run to the Castle Zvahl zone. Along the way, I encounter all of the demons that my friend zoned. They're heading back to camp. Being invisible, they ignore me.
- Sometime around here, Bind wears off and the Chaos Elemental begins to chase me. He follows me back to Castle Zvahl, where he meets me and my RDM friend. We slaughter it, safe from any potential demon aggro or unwanted adds.
Okay, so maybe this is sort of a half-assed way to do this quest, but it worked well. The biggest problem that you have with this quest is adds from demon aggro, and this strategy takes that possibility out of the equation.

he meleed, nuked the thing to hell, and we got like 20k xp in Kuftal, was helluva fun.....Guivy left us alone until roun the very end! ^^

I got the Glowstone soloing the Chaos Elemental with my RDM60/BLM30.
Killed off a couple of Demon Pawns first, healed up a little (with Convert), and spawned the Chaos Elemental.
This thing was cake. The only offensive spell it cast was Banish/Banishga, and buffs that I promptly Dispeled. Bio, Drain and Aspir were especially effective since it's a Light Elemental NM, but all my nukes were more effective than usual, especially considering I was using my sword.
The only problem came when the demons respawned 3/4 through the fight. They were knocking off Stoneskin in 2 hits. Finished off the elemental with less than 100 MP left, reapplied Phalanx and Stoneskin, hit my Convert then Chainspell + Warp macros.
Unfortunately, I hit the 911 warp macro before I realized I still had 3 - 4 minutes left until I could convert again, and my 2 hour was blown >< It was a mad dash for the Castle. Made it through the zone with about 1/4 HP. Rested to 100 MP, Warped, changed to BLM main, and got my Wand O'Suck.
Next challenge will be to see if I can solo the Water Elemental in CN for the seeds.

I soloed this tonight. Level 75 bard with sub blm.
I gave him dark threndy and bio II him. Had full tp so spirits within at beginning and end of fight.
Had a mp drink. And gave myself paeon for hp regen.
My hp never lost more than 50 hp at a time. All in all a long, but easy fight. (True with any Bard lol)

Can I do this as my main, or do I have to go as a blm? I'm 70rdm and my blm is getting close to doing this now. I know I can get a couple friends to come and help me out with this, but I really don't wanna have to go as a 40blm =/ Anyone know if you can do this as a higher job, as long as your blm starts the quest and turns in the Glowstone?

Yes you can, i myselt did it as a Rdm/blm, with a whm friend helping.. i could solo it at lv 52. Execpt for the links form the demons however...
its a pretty easy fight all and all.

Just did this with a Lvl75 WHM and Lvl67 BLM helping... fight was over in 30seconds.
This wand does suck, what BLM would sacrifice +5INT and +5MND for +20MP lol
