Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Sky Orb, which is obtained by trading 30 Beastmen's Seals to Shami in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Sky Orb to the door of the Ghelsba Outpost hut and choose to enter the battle Petrifying Pair.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 30 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. In here you only fight 2 lizards: Kilioa & Kalamainu.

  • The lizards will use Secretion at the beginning of the fight.
  • They will then use Baleful Gaze at full TP.
  • The lizards are possibly immune, or at least mostly resistant, to all Sleep - type spells.

Strategies

One of the most common strategies involves a tank, a DD, and a kiter (usually a RDM/BLM). The tank can be either WAR/NIN or PLD/WAR. DD's are usually a WAR/NIN with a Great Axe or a DRG/WHM (for self-curing while the RDM is Gravity-kiting the other lizard). At the start of the fight, buff, eat appropriate foods, rest to RDM's full MP, and then go after the brown lizard (the one on the left) as the RDM starts Gravity kiting the white lizard on the right. Don't forget, tanks, to unlock target and turn your back to the lizards as soon as you see them ready Baleful Gaze, to prevent being petrified. Once the brown lizard is dead, go and kill the white lizard while the RDM rests up and heals.

no its not. Gravity and Bind works wonders with any decent RDM
broke the server record time
# May 30 2006 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
ok after serveral failure with rdm dying
i decided to have all 3 melee setup
me - thf/war, mnk/war, and war/nin

we got in, buffed up, war/nin cast blink, we all ate rice dumplings for accuracy boost and carried maybe a couple of hi potions

mnk and war both 2 hr the brown one
me whos the thf kite it with flee... when my flee was over.. the brown one was dead ( 30 sec)
so we all ganged up on the silver one...with SATA setup bam broke it... 1 minute and something seconds

things i remember to do and should do

- mnk should always be behind the war while doing 2 hrs.. so war can have hate to tank

- thf should kite around a while before using flee.. maybe when getting hit 5 or 6 times... or hold it until monk and war destroy the brown one

this setup can be tweaked so that it can be done consecutive ... meaning not to use 2hrs in the battle at all

this is my resolution to all my failure
boots - 2/5

hahahha soon after bcnm.. we camped VE... got there 15 mins and fought it... with drop!

woohoo lucky day
Easy.

Did this twice yesterday, went off without a hitch.

Setup: BLU/NIN(me) BST/NIN RDM/BLM

I had the following spells on:

Healing Breeze + Sheep Song (Auto Regen)
Claw Cyclone + Foot Kick (Lizard Killer)
Bludgeon
Head Butt
Wild Oats
Cocoon

and maybe a few others. The BST had Tiger jugpet.

Strategy

Enter BCNM, buff up. When ready, RDM binds + gravity kites one lizard, while BLU + BST + Tiger maul the other lizard. If the RDM has time, Paralyze and Slow really helps (but focus on kiting first). BST just whacks away, BLU spam Bludgeon (and Head Butt if you need some time for shadow recast) Watch out for Baleful Gaze (if you're quick enough, you should be able to turn before it goes off. The only time I got caught out was in the middle of a Bludgeon cast when you can't move) The lizard BLU + BST is on should fall without any trouble, then just gangbash the remaining lizard and you're done.

With Lizard Killer + paralyze (and the lizard isn't terribly accurate either), a substantial number of the lizard's attacks will be nullified.

We did the following SC - Flat Blade --> Raging Axe (Detonation) I believe.

The only items you'll probably need are general food and maybe yagudo drinks. Not difficult at all.
Easy

This has to be the easiest BCNM I have ever done.

The drops sucked, but we went through 3 times without a problem at all. I, being the tank, didn't even remember to use food the first time.

Party was Mnk/War, Drg/Rdm, and a Rdm/? I don't even know what he was subbing, but it wasn't Nin. People say to turn away when it tried to use Baleful Gaze, man that crap don't work, so I took it like a man, to the face!

No two hours were used, I even think the Rdm/? whatever he was, forgot to use his yag drink the first round, and didn't use food for any fight. I used a Rice Dumpling for the second round, don't think I needed it, and the Drg used one that lasted all 3 rounds. So the only food used was 2 Rice Dumplings and 3 maybe 4 yag drinks for all 3 rounds between all 3 people.

First round was cake, second round we broke the record, and the last round we were the most prepared for but seemed to be the roughest, but still no major problems.
not too hard ^^
# May 20 2006 at 8:41 PM Rating: Decent
managed to do this earlier and set the record on asura

pld/war (me), pld/war, smn/whm

i ran in and got hate on both the lizards, 2nd pld got on both of their hate lists.
Smn uses astral flow as i used invincible to hold hate, once my invincible ran out the second pld used his, and by then the smn had wiped out the lizzies.

edit - spelling

1/1 on the boots ^^

we did this bcnm 3 times,
first time we were succesfull.
basic idea was to have the nin tank one lizard while the rdm took the other one for a walk with gravity.
the nin and drg started killing of the first one. since i was drg/whm i started the fight with doing dia paralyze and slow. if you can get those on the lizard your nin has a very good chance to blink tank the lizard. if he gets below 30%health you can heal him as a drg using your wyvern. this worked well so far, just use dia or some bar- spell to trigger healing breath.
when you kill the first lizard you are almost certain the fight is won.
our rdm did a great job kiting the second.
before engaging the second we made sure all our hp were full.

rdm/blm hume food: boiled crab, 3 pineapple juice
nin/war mithra food: meat mithkabob, pear au lait
drg/whm tarutaru food: meat mithkabob, pear au lait, 3 pine applejuices.

Treasure: 2 onyx, 1 lizard skin, 1 absorb-INT scroll. :-(

not really..

ok i just did this with a war/nin (me), rdm/nin, and another rdm. the other rdm died while kiting. it was murder he couldnt even stay alive
me and the other rdm couldnt tank right because it hit too fast. this BCNM is very hard.
to blink tank it, you need to have haste, which you cant really have at lvl 30, and the rdm kiting needs to be /nin.
we didnt even kill the brown one whenever the kiter died, it came after us and killed us both
how to start it

This quest info was obviously updated INCORRECTLY. I wonder where you got the info?

Utsusemi:NI and Erase were removed from the drops listed from this BCNM. I have done this 12 times now and I know for a fact that both of these scrolls drop as well. However, its really rare. Only seen one NI and one erase. SO its understandable that they -could- have been removed from someone's inaccurate information.

Leaping boots are the big ticket here. We're like 4/12 on LB, we just split the gil 3 ways. War/ninx2 and RDM makes this super , incredibly easy. Just fight with auto-target off, and turn away when you see paralyze coming. No hi pots needed. ONly the rdm will need 2-3 yag drinks, thats it.
probably a dumb question but...

seriously...can you charm one or t'other of these guys? i know what you're going to say 'its a notorious monster' but the Furries from "wings of fury" are also listed as notorious monsters (and i believe they also con as impossible to guage). as we all know you CAN charm the furries so, whats the deal with these lizards? i'm just asking because i dont see any posts in which a BSt has tried to charm one o these fellas.

Just to share my experience, 0/2 on this with my own orbs. Won it successfully for other two, one of them got Leaping Boots. It was own orb own loot, so I lost out bigtime. I dont recommend this BCNM at all. Even if your RDM is very good at kiting and your WAR/NIN's are good at blink tanking, this is very much a matter of luck. There are many reasons for this.

The biggest reason I'll discuss is that Baleful Gaze is extremely destructive of your chances. Sometimes you won't get it all, but most of the time expect to see 1-3 of em a fight. The turn around trick requires a very fast computer and good connection in order to pull off. I have literally turned around a split second after Baleful Gaze activates to no avail at all. I have been completely turned around and runniong away for 3 full steps and it still doesn't work. If your computer isn't top of the line, you won't be able to turn around in time because of the info lag transfer. It is near instantaneous. If you are one of the two melee, do not attempt this BCNM unless you're computer is high end.

The second reason is, most people don't like to spend consumables for this. 3 hi-potions for each melee and 2 ethers for the mage should be enough even if you get struck by Baleful gaze several times. But the drops can be very pitiful and not even amount to over 20k. Unless you find dedicated people, the only good chance of winning is by getting items.

That's my 2 cents. Wait for your chance to do Worm's Turn for a good chance to get good drops or burn your seals doing Royal Jelly and hope for drops. This one is not worth it.

Sounds to me like someone's a sore loser. I'm not going to flame you though, I don't do that. Let me inform you on something though.

My party setup:
2x WAR/NINs, one was me.
RDM/BLM.

Food:
Hi-pots, two for each fight, in case we needed them, and meat mithkabobs for the melee, rolanberry for the RDM. Yag drinks for the mage, again two to each fight.

We entered, RDM ProIIed each one of us, WAR's cast utsu and ate food. After resting, we slipped in and due to reading wrong, provoked the right one instead of the left like the usual guides say. And blah blah, we lost the first one trying to size up what we were up against (That and the other WAR/NIN would provoke out of habit when her own shadows were down).

We tried this 5 more times, and won each time after that first. We didn't even use all our hi-pots. To the point: My Axe skill wasn't even capped, it was like 10 below, the other war/nin had dual swords. Baleful gaze was a constant and annoying thing but did not hinder our progress. Maybe you went on the wrong day when it was stronger? I don't know, but this BCNM was cake after that first try and we all got our crap together.

Drops were about a total of 1.2 mil, including a few expensive belts that we weren't looking for. We were 0/5 on the boots, but still made a big profit that was worth the time. Try this again on a different day maybe, just be sure your party knows what they're doing and you should be fine.

Myths and Strategy
# Mar 07 2006 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, This is how we went.

Rdm/blm (taru)
War/nin (Hume)
Nin/war (Mithra) me

The Rdm buffs us all with ProtectII then does blink, aquaveil, and a few other buffs pops yag drink #1 and rests to full. The war and ninja put shadows up and only go once the Rdm casts bind on the white lizard to start the kiting process. Rdm kites like all the other strategies you have prolly seen all over.

War and ninja blink tank and kill the brown one. Melee should fight unlocked so that when the mob readies "Baleful Gaze", whoever the mob is facing can turn around. If HP gets in the yellow pop a regen drink, or if in the red use a Hi potion, but that was hardly an issue.

Ok now we did this after iceday cause I hear that petrify is a ????? on that day, plus we learned that petrify sticks hard at night for some reason, so try to start just after 6:00 if you plan on doing multiple runs. I have heard about using blinding potions to stop petrify, and for the record this is the VERY WORST idea ever. If u use them u WILL die. We learned it the hard way using my orb ><.

Things to take:
apple pie, yagudo drinks x2 for the RDM
Meat mithkabob, pamama au laut x2, Hi potion for the WAR
Squid sushi, pamama au laut x2, Hi potion for the ninja

5/6 for wins
no Boots, Ni, or erase ><

Did this today. the set up was Me (as Masquirin) RDM/NIN, Baou RDM/BLM and Masuimax NIN/WAR. First 2 times we failed. 1st time the ninja couldn't get up Utsusemi very well. and lead to too many problems.

2nd time i suggested that when the NINs shadows were down to move away and for the other RDM to bind the lizard (I was kiting). This tactic worked well for conserving MP over all. However after the 1st lizard died, we were only able to get the 2nd down about 30% of it's HP bar before time over.

3rd time however! Instead of kiting, I bound and weighted the lizard Kilioa, and instead of just having the ninja melee, all 3 of us meleed Kalamainu. I used Enaero to add damage (forget to get enwater so dunno if it's any better, also remember to bind Kilioa away from Kalamainu).

We were still using Bind -> utsusemi for the NIN, after about 2~3 minutes Kalamainu went down without much hassle. During this period I did have to disengage to bind and gravity Kilioa a few times but utsusemi helped out alot and I never really toke any damage to talk of.

So with Kalamainu down we moved on to Kilioa. Basically doing the same thing again. It toke about the same amount of time before Kilioa rolled over. At one point with Kilioa did Petra on the NIN, then after I manged to pull hate, did Petra on me. Baou Managed to get up a simular hate to me after I toke a few minutes. after Petra wore off of both me and Masuimax, it was pretty much straight forward.

Rewards
Scroll of ERASE!!! (Shocked us completely, we had no idea this was a reward)
Axe Belt
Chestnut Log
Lizard Skin

Gil from sale of Erase was split 3-ways

So summary of our strat, When ninja needs utsusemi, Bind lizard and ninja moves away to cast. Everyone melee's current lizard and RDM/NIN handles the other lizard's Binding and Gravity. Only cancelling meleeing the current lizard when kited lizard needs re-binding.

two friends and I just completed this BCNM in record time (under 2 min, 1 min 47sec to be precise) with no consumable Items being used. Party configuration 1x PLD/WAR 2x BLM/WHM (BLM/SMN would work for one).

Method: have PLD voke brown lizard and link the white and shield bash it, then 2HR to grab as much hate as possible. have BLMS follow up with Waterga and Aeroga on BOTH lizards at once, 2HR manafont as needed, have 1 BLM Cure II the PLD when Invincible wears.

this will use up all 2hrs, but everyone will be alive at the end and you can divi up your booty as you see fit.

ok i consiter myself very good at this bcnm having done it 17 times being sucessfull 16 times.

here are all my drops:
Leaping Boots // Utsusemi: Ni // Dispel x2 // Sarashi x2 // Avatar belt x2 // Pick belt x2 // Rapier belt // Dagger belt x2 // Song belt x3 // Shield belt // Axe belt // Staff belt // Darksteel ore x3 // Mythril ingot x2 // Iron ore x2 // Silver ore // Iorn ingot // Sardonyx // Amethyst // Elm log x4 // Chestnut log // Lizzard skin x23 // Hi-ether // Cold carrion broth x2 // Magic Finale x5 // Absorb-INT x3 // Absorb-VIT // Absorb-AGL x2

I believe that there are basicly 2 party setups that will win no matter what so long as everybody plays their job correctly. These being War/nin Rng/nin Rdm/blm (my favorite) and War/nin War/nin Rdm/blm. the rng setup takes a good ranger though with status bolts and needs to be able to pull hate sometimes. But will get much better times. DD's should use dammage food such as chief kabobs and the rdm needs 2 yag drinks per fight and also pumpkin pies are good, i think better than rolenberry since they give +2 int instead of 1.

What you do is everybody enters then rdm casts protectII on everybody then blink, drinks a yag drink, casts aquaveil, then rests till full. DD move over to the left side of arena and use food. When rdm is full he walks to the right side and uses Elemental Seal then casts bind on the right side lizzard. At this point you should have time to cast either 1 enfeeble or regen, after u cast 1 spell gravity the right lizzard. then you can freely cast enfeebles on the other one or regen's untill he becomes unbound. Kite the lizzard for a little while then recast bind, make sure you watch for the effect of weight to wear off then cast gravity again. Do this untill the left lizzard is dead. All the mele have to do is juggle hate around use your sc if you have one and kill him. once first one is dead all 3 can easily kill the second since you will have a full time healier now. the rdm should use his second yag drink when first lizzard dies and rest if theres time.

Stick to these guidelines and u will win. Also if possible avoid doing this bcnm on lightsday, your bind will last a very short amount of time.

Im not saying this is the fastest way to win but it is a solid method. When me and my buddys do this we expect to win everytime and we do.

The Odds

Man oh man oh man...

I have a friend that I play with whose notorious for sacrificing sanity for the sake of fun. I've seen him take on stuff three times his level and his size, and he brushes it off like it were nothing. He's blown through seals, EXP, equipment, and time with his crazy experiments.

The kid was after a pair of Leaping Boots, so he took a shot at this BCNM when he got sick of camping Leaping Lizzy. He had a stockpile of seals, and was not afraid to go through them as long as it was in the name of his quest. The hard part came in finding a third person for this mission. When schedules and priorities didn't sync properly, we decided we'd attempt it on our own. Two characters in a three-person BCNM, capped at Level 30.

He went as a Mithra MNK30/DRG15. The DRG subjob was, theoretically, for the accuracy boost. He ate a Dhalmel Pie, popped a Persikos au Lait, stocked up on Hi-Potions, and went to town.

I went as a SMN30/THF15. The THF subjob was for the higher HP and evasion than what a typical WHM subjob would offer. I ate a Tavnazian Taco, downed a Yagudo Drink and Persikos au Lait, stocked up on Ethers and Hi-Potions, and prepared for what I thought would be a wipe.

We anxiously watched two parties go before us. The first nearly used all of their 15 minute time limit. The second wiped. Things were looking grim. I had no idea how much damage Diamond Dust would do to these lizards, but on the upside, it was Iceday.

We entered the Hut, ate our food, and the MNK engaged the left (brown) lizard. He linked with the other (grey) lizard, and when they were close enough to both be hit by Diamond Dust, I used Astral Flow, and he used Hundred Fists. Diamond Dust knocked off an easy 1/3 HP from both lizards, and Hundred Fists brought the brown lizard down to about 40-45%. He used Combo, healed up a bit, popped an Icarus Wing, and followed up with another Combo, as I prepared for my next Diamond Dust.

This is where things got a little hairy. Not realizing the limited curative power of Hi-Potions, the MNK waited too long to use them, and ended up dying. The brown lizard was a hair under 30% HP, and I had a good 15 seconds before Diamond Dust. I ran around like a Taru with its head cut off for those few seconds, waited for the lizards, and used Diamond Dust a second time.

The brown lizard died. The grey lizard was at 30%.

So I kited some more. Shiva managed to survive 35 seconds on her own, probably because of the Iceday bonuses, but right as she died, the remaining lizard used Baleful Gaze. This ended up being a blessing. Since I was kiting and running in the opposite direction, I was not petrified, but the delay in the attack gave me just enough time to get Shiva back out again. I continued to kite, and delivered the coup de grâce: one final Diamond Dust to annihilate the last lizard.

We won. A SMN/THF and a MNK/DRG won this BCNM.

The drops were an insult, however.

- Lizard Skin
- Steel Ingot
- Scroll: Absorb-INT
- Elm Log

At 3:46, we broke the record on our server. The previous record was over six minutes.

Success+Tactic

Me and my LS decided to try this BCNM a few days ago after camping LL for the boots for a day with no look on the drop. This tactic will be in the eyes of myself (the mage) but i'll try and add in what the others did too.

Our setup was WAR/NINx2 and RDM/BLM(me). The items that everyone needs are:
WAR/NINs needs Goblin/Hobgoblin Chocolate for the Lizzy Killer Effect and also resist Petrification. The Bolts with HP Drain effect are also useful. X-potions incase of low mp of mage.
RDM/BLM needs atleast Melon Pie(+1) and one or two Yagudo Drinks.

Our tactic was to enter the BCNM, PrtII on the WAR/NINs, Blink on myself. Time to pop a Yag drink and begin. I start off the fight by doing Elemental Seal and Bind on Kalamainu then Paralyse/Slow/Blind on Kilioa. After this has been done, Gravity is to be cast on Kalamainu because Bind is going to wear off soon and the Kiting process is to begin. When the WAR/NINs start to take some damage, cast regen on them and add in a few cures if they start going into yellow. They should be sharing the hate with them both provoking it so not much damage should be taken. After awhile Gravity should still be on Kalamainu, once the recast timer has gone on Gravity, cast Bind on Kalamainu again. This Bind wont last very long but it should still be good enough to add on Regen to the two WAR/NINs again. Cast Gravity on Kalamainu after it has wore off. Its ok if he takes a bite out of you because blink will most likely take it, if it doesnt, run away and cast Drain on the other lizzy. By now, Kilioa should be pretty much dead. The WAR/NINs can use their WS if they feel its needed but they can always keep that tp for Kalamainu. Keep repeating the kiting process until Kilioa is dead. Once it is, Bind Kalamainu, Paralyse/Slow/Blind it and maybe through a few cures/II on them to help them out or have them use some x-potions if they think its better when your low on mp. While your doing this, The WAR/NINs should be using their bolts to regain some HP from the mob. During its binded state, have one of the WAR/NINs provoke it, so that its not going to come after you again. Your MP will proly be low now, so you can pop the other yag drink or rest for some more mp. If the WAR/NINs are taking some dmg again, Bind the mob and have them run off and do some more Ranged Attacks. Carry on this until the second lizzy is dead then open the chest that appears ^^

Me and my mates did this 9 times in one night. 1/9 on the boots (got them on our first fight, windsday) with our fastest time being just under 6 mins. Not close to the 4 mins record on our server, but we still finished it atleast. Other decent drops we got was the Avatar belt (800k on Lakshmi), nothin else was really worth anything.

Whats the drop rate on these boots anyway?

EDIT - Erase scroll does drop from this BCNM, even though it doesnt say on here, but it does on other sites and its true. Got the drop of it tonight

My LS has been very successful after switching our setup. 4/4 on the new one.

We were trying this setup

Nin/war
war/nin
RDM/WHM

We tried about 2 times and we were destroyed both times even with the rdm kiting. We changed our setup to war/nin(x2) and rdm/blm. We have beaten this about 4 times now in a row. Still no drop though. I made a video of the last one. This fight I almost died, but we managed to pull through.

2nd try: RNG/nin RDM/nin NIN/war.
Succeded cus we had potions, a GOOD tank and I had to 2 hour.

3rd try: failed cus member forgot to buy potions and ether even though i told him to do so every so often. ><

By the way "Remedy" DOES NOT seem to work, unless the post down below was referring so somthing else ... i paid 150k for a stack and it doesn't remove petrify... cus you are petrified... remember? It won't activate... so no Remedies please... just buy Resist Petrify Food if u want to. (Boiled Cockatrice I recommend)

It's hard to do it with ppl who don't buy potions and ethers and more often than not they say they don't have the money. My LS doesn't really show interest in this at all... and /shout give u more often VERY crappy ppl who are greedy as **** and won't invest in items.

If anyone or group of decent players who are willing to invest in potions and ethers for thier own good for this BCNM in [ Hades ] Server wanna do this with me please please let me know... im tired of dying 5 times in a row doing this bcnm and convincing ppl to buy potion... its really depressing, i didn't even get to bring my new orb...after i died, ppl say they can't wait, but went and picked up thier own orb after we succeded.... ya can't wait huh?

So please leave your character name here and i will contact u asap ^ ^.

EDIT!!
New little knowledge: You Can totally avoid Petrify buy TURNING AROUND and NOT FACE HIM when he Readies Petrify....its easy... im sure some of u know that already ^ ^ Hope this helps those who Don't.

Just did this one with my ls last night, at 1/3
>.>

The set up was

2x Nin/War (Bruno,Xero)
1x Whm/Blm (myself)

The first time we tried to do it I went in as a blm/whm and attempted to sleep the white lizard while the ninjas took out the brown one, but sleep would stick and we ended up dead right quick.

The next time I went as a whm/blm. Rather then try and sleep the white lizard I bound it, which stuck right away. Things went well until I ran out of MP from curing the Ninjas.

The final time we got it no problem. I bound the white one and paralyzed the brown one until the brown one was killed, then moved paralyzed the white one. Ended up with some good drops, leaping boots, pick belt, Dispell. Got 2.3 million for the boots on Alexander ^^
