Description

Master, master! How are you holding up in this horrible heat? You've made the Sunbreeze Festival a smashing success, kupo! And now it's time for the main event--"Azimuth Circle"!

Azimuth Circle has rather complex rules, so I'll have to drill you beforehand, kupo. First off, the game can only be played in pairs--everyone must be in a party of two. So you must begin by searching for a partner. Coupling with a good friend would be ideal, of course. But even if you aren't exactly the most popular master...no problem! Just ask around, kupo!

And then, um, ummm...oh yeah! After that, just talk to a moogle with your partner and say you want to start the game, kupo! Then the moogle will tell you where your partner should go. It will also tell your partner where you should go! So you and your partner have to relay information between each other to figure out where to head next, kupo. Each of you should reach your checkpoint with good teamwork! Examine your checkpoint to find a hidden compass. The compass will point in the direction that your partner should go, so both of you should use this information to help each other out. Work together to find all of your checkpoints and each of you will find a doll at the end of the trail, kupo!

Last but not least, trade your doll with your partner and then trade the doll that he found to the moogle, kupo. End game--the moogle will give you beautiful swimwear to beat the heat as a reward for your efforts! Nothing like going for a dip in the ocean in this scorching weather, kupo!

Ah... I almost forgot! I have a message here from Azimuth of the Alchemists' Guild! Here's what the inventor of Azimuth Circle had to say, kupo: "The name 'Azimuth Circle' comes from this gadget we set on a compass in the old days so we could verify directions proper. I'm not vain enough to name a game after myself! Anyway, I hope you and your partner become good friends while playing. Maybe you can even invite them to join you again later wearing the rewards you gained from playing. I wonder what games you could play with them then...haw haw.........!"

Ahem...yes, Ms. Azimuth is certainly a unique old... Anyway! Where was I, kupo? Oh yeah, Azimuth Circle. Please join us in the festivities, kupo! Master, master, get up and get out there! It's time to find a partner for Azimuth Circle!

-Event Details This event is scheduled to commence at July 28, 2005 17:00 and will last until August 15, 2005 0:00 (PDT).

-Event Locations Southern San d'Oria/Port San d'Oria Bastok Mines/Port Bastok Windurst Waters/Windurst Walls

Thee's a chocobo-racing mini-game that starts you out at one of the stables and has you get as fast as you can to another city's stables.

I've found very little information on this mini-game and am very curious. The fastest I've been able to make it from one to the next (various times, because of various destinations) don't seem to add up at all with the "fastest times" posted by the game.

Today, I had to go from San D'Oria to Jeuno, a pretty short ride. I had my egg timer next to me. I didn't get caught in any landscape or mobs or parties, I didn't take any wrong turns, I actually got there surprisingly fast... except somehow, the fastest time posted was nearly a full 2 minutes faster. Now, 2 minutes worth is an AWFUL lot of wrong turns or being slowed down by mobs or other players.
So I wonder, is there some sort of cheat?
Can someone cast Flee on a chocobo?
Does Haste affect your chocobo's speed?

There were two of us doing the race and we arrived at the exact same time. I wasn't wearing any riding gear, my partner had some on. So obviously, riding gear doesn't affect your riding "speed".

Does ANYone have any idea about this issue?
Thanks a million in advance.

I have to say that this event was fun. Although confusing if you didn't understand, but worthwhile. I was glad to help many people get their swimsuits and make new friends. Now all I have to do is get my +1 swimsuit. Buh bye Sandy, hello Windy... :P

Yup theres is no headgear at all

I did the quest in all three cities, and all I got for finishing the last one was 13 chocobo tickets :\ So no there is no headgear.

How to get plus 1: do in another nation
How to get headgear: There is none!

The FFXI model viewer will show you that there is no headgear for this.. unless someone has pictures of the headgear and posts them here just give up on it.

If you are interested in finding out what these swimsuits look like (and other Summer time stuff)
Go here: FFXI Swimsuits

If you are talking about the headgears shown here, the Laurel Crown, and the Stars cap, those are not related to the swimwear. I believe they are related to either:
A) a new prize in ballista seeing as if you check FFXI somepage (CTRL+F, type Stars or Laurel) they are enchanted with a teleport of somekind that uses Ballista Points
or B) They are prizes for the gold world pass thing after 100 days and 1 year.

Aggrivating, but quite simple

Well, my partner and I can generally find the dolls on the first checkpoint, maybe the second checkpoint, having only failed once so far in Windurst Waters. I am however becoming annoyed at receiving chocobo tickets. We played in Windurst Walls the first time, and each received the top piece, and having been misinformed, we played there again, and received chocobo tickets. After receiving two chocobo tickets, we switched to Waters, and received yet more chocobo tickets. I hope today we can get the bottom pieces so we can move on to the next country and repeat the process. On the bright side, next time chocobos will cost me 2k+ to ride, I will just use a ticket.
VERY very simply trick

this is so simple it's really quite stupid.
except you need to have two players in the same room to realize just how stupid it is. This is basically a game of "hot-cold" where you tell your partner if he's close or not to a target, except here you simply tell him geographical directions.

1. both players get quest/game from moogle

2. player-1 steps away from moogle while player-2 stays NEAR the moogle

3. player-1 will follow directions given to him by player-2, who REPEATEDLY checks the moogle (the moogle will repeat the directions the other player is supposed to go). for example, moogle will say East... so player-1 will go east, then moogle will say South-east, so player-1 will go etc... the player who remains near the moogle must not move and simply continues targeting and checking the moogle and relaying the directions.

NOTE: there are tons of checkpoints, you don't NEED to check any of them. you only need to find the ONE TARGET checkpoint that has a doll.

Once the player who is searching has found his doll, he just remains there and relays THAT single checkpoint's information to the other player, repeatedly... he doesn't have to move anymore, just keep checking his checkpoint and repeating to the other player who stayed behind where HE now has to go.

AGAIN. YOU ONLY NEED TO CHECK ONE CHECKPOINT... the target.

you then have both dolls, which you trade to each other, then trade to the moogle, who will hand you your prize.

you can only hand in one set of dolls per game day, apparently.
So far, we have seen:
1st hand-in a top for a taru partner, and a bottome for a hume partner.
2nd hand-in to SAME moogle was a chocobo ticket.

we stupidly repeated the game a 3rd time in the same zone (Port Bastok - hey! we knew where all the checkpoints were!) but handed in the dolls in a different zone (Bastok Mines), and we got the other halves of our bathing suits.

as a second note: you could also try moving towards the nearest checkpoint and using THAT one as a "home base" (there's usually a HUGE amount of traffic around the moogle itself)

tomorrow we try and find out what happens if we repeat the quest wearing our bathing trunks and tops... or repeat it in a different city.
arg!

ok theres 2 dolls hopipi and pumimi. In order too get both get a friend now u both need to trade a hopipi and pumimi doll to the moggel 1ce. So in order to do this u or ur friend get the hopipi 1st then con. to click to give ur friend the direction to other doll (after u click on 1 u can repeatedly click it to give ur friend directions so u dont wast ur 3 clicks) after that u trade them and give them to moggle. Now im not sure if u gata swich zone but we did. when we did i got doll 1st this time and then i repeatedly pressed the spot where i found mine and gave him directions. after that we both had both pieces. Now were off to basty to try to get head. hope this helps also im 58pld/29war on kujata server plz invite me ^-^ to a pt tommarow or somthin plz

The quest: Talk to a moogle in one of the cities with a partner. They will tell you to find check points for your partner.

The rewards: Non-port areas of cities will give you the top. Port areas of cities will give you the bottom. If you repeat the quest in the same city, you get a chocobo ticket. If you go to a different city after doing the quest in another city, you will get the +1 version.

So lets say I did the South San d'Oria one twice. I'd get the top then a chocobo ticket. Then I moved to Port San d'Oria. I would get the bottom. Then I would go to Port Bastok and I'd get the bottom +1. If I went to Bastok Mines, I'd get the top +1.

Not entirely true...I got both the top and bottom in Windurst Walls. The first time I got the top, then I got a chocobo ticket, so I went to Windurst Waters, but I got another ticket. So I went back to Walls and got the bottom there.

Also, what's all this about an item to equip on the head?

Eh, I was just speculating. As for the headgear, I believe you need to do the quest in all 3 cities.
hint...

Maybe you play it again once you have the top and bottom?
Top and bottom
# Jul 28 2005 at 9:23 PM Rating: Decent
to get the top and bottom you must do the quest 2 times, once in each area.

Example (how i got top and bottom):
Windurst waters = shorts
windurst walls = top

dunno how to get the plus one tho ><
Heres some help!
# Jul 28 2005 at 7:34 PM Rating: Decent
You can do the quest once per day, and get given one piece at a time.

Doing more than one run in an area can also result in Chocobo Tickets!

but does anyone know what the swimwear does? like its stats or special effects/abilities? having rare/exe stuff and doing events is great and all (not to mention you get to look cool) but why go through all the trouble to get em if there worse than your starting clothes?

I think I saw info on Somepage that the HQ version of the gear reduces clamming "incidents".
Here's a link to the Hume Top +1

Oh, and the shorts give a bonus to clamming results. Check out this link for that.

Hope that helped. I can't wait to get it ^^.
