Actually it's not misinformation at all. These are a CC synth material therefore if they are sold TO the guild first then the guild will turn around and sell them to players the next day(only the number originally npced though as i recall). It's not uncommon for me to sell left over materials to whatever guild i'm currently using to get rid of left over singles.

You can sell Bird Feathers to the guild shop for 3gil a piece (windsday) and they go for around 10k a stack at Windurst AH. I'd say it's a fairly slim chance that you'll ever find Bird Feathers at the guild shop.

Farmed these today as a SMN/THF (yeah, I know... >.>) in La Thiene Plateau. Akbaba's there drop them rather frequently. With TH1, I guess I got about 3 feathers per every 4 birds.
Not to mention the steal rate, I'm not too sure what Steal is based off of, but with my THF sub at level 22, I never failed at stealing a feather, so counting that, I often got 2 feathers per bird.

I get these when I solo as a BLM in West and East Sarutabaruta and usually only when I'm fight a DC Carrion Crows. They don't drop often but if you look for me online I can sell them back to the Weavers Guild providing inventory so that you'll be able to buy them. I'm not sure if they can be traded but I'll try that too. I cant see the use for these other than minimal gil gains.

They are, in fact, sold in the Cloth guild. Just not everyday. You just have to check; sometimes they have them, some times they don't.
