I know this was asked two years ago, but for the record this existed before COR >.> and they decided not to change the name. that's why it's called that.
why on earth is this named Corsair's Knife when the primary stats Corsair worries about are Agility and Ranged Atk/Acc...absolute junk for Corsair imo...but it is a nice dagger for thf...although i'm sure ranger could find something better than that...
Wow so lucky, I don't know how old these posts are but I'm about to buy one of these on Midgard and they are going for close to 3mil... It's gonna look nice with my Scorpion Harness haha. ^^
I'm an elvaan and at 50 I opted to duel-wield 2 Corsair's knives, but I stacked my DEX through my other gear. At 50, I had a DEX bonus of +23-25 depending on my belt, and that was without sushi. Your attack rating DOES come into play when it comes to Sneak Attack. Sneak Attack is a critical hit with a DEX modifier, and the critical hit aspect of it is based off of your STR and Attack rating. Up those a little bit and you can have a decent affect on your Sneak Attack.
@.@ Well I farmed for like 4 days on Silk Threads and made 12 stacks which I had a LS friend craft into 4 stacks of cloth. Now I just have to wait for them all to sell so I can finally buy this baby. Ugh though... 700k easy on Ragnarok, as low as 650 on low market days. I know this though... this is the last thing I'm buying eq wise until Black Coterhardie... Corsair's and HN ftw.
What are the best weapons for a THF50 and also for a THF 60? Im thinking for my THF @ 50 One of these and my Hornetneedle(help me get it >_>)is that the best? I wanna bee the best THF that i can be so if i have to farm a few days for it its np ====>>>Plz info <<<==== Thanks,Gunitsoldier Hades Server
This argument can be settled quite easily by stating that your equipment will depend on which race you are.
eg. An Elvaan may wish to continue to use bone knife +1 because they have terrible DEX, but huge amounts of STR, so they will almost never find themselves hitting for 0, but will miss quite a lot. On the other hand, a Tarutaru (like myself) has higher dex, but much less STR, so whereas I don't miss much, I do hit for 0 on some mobs, xept for the crits.
Personally, I carry 3 belts as well. sword belt, life belt and R.K. Belt. As standard, I use sword belt for tp gain with R.K. for sata, but if I do find myself missing a lot (during Rhino Guard when we have no dispel, for example) then I can put the life belt on for that extra acc boost.
I am 61 and I am still currently this dagger. I know everyone says darksteal+1 and hornetneedle. But the way I see it is I have 2 of these bad boys and amenent mantle +1 so all together I got attack + 35 and Acc + 20 with my Scorp harness and life belt.. I got a good smn in pt who will make sure the entire pt has haste. So delay is no issue I build tp to bout 140-200 a fight hitting for 20-30 on IT mobs. I also bought alot of stat gear for equipment macro switchng so my SATA doesnt lack. So bottom line I love these daggers would not part with them for the world

With this dagger in your offhand, your Dual Weild DoT will be TWICE as much with any other crap Thief. You know why I'm going to pay for this? Because, unlike you, I see the Attack plus the added damage as something that can easily be fixed. A Life Belt and Battle Gloves cover my entire accuracy problem, even without food. I STILL hit 7/10 swings.
Eiri: Why in the world would you put this in your offhand and put the HN in your mainhand? Maybe you are too noobish to realize that your SaTa damage is based off of the dagger in your mainhand. Using your own "verbal attack" method. It doesn;t seem like a good way to get a point across, but when in rome...
Ketsu: I am assuming you PT with a decent WHM or RDM. They should be hitting you with Haste, which will keep you in the front of the TP pack. Either way though, what is the point of having 300% TP (pre-DE) and not having your timers ready? While it is past its prime for you, I use Corsair/HN and always have 100% tp for my SaTa. The added damage during the rest of the fight is nice.
The mature thing to do would be to realize that people have different means of reaching the same goal. Deal with it.
ROFL dont make me flame you >.> this knife sux BOne Knife+1/Hornetneedle will own you any day im a 59 THF and once i hit 60 and get a cermet Knife+1 i will use this combo i hit 9/10swings and hit for about 15-20 dmg each hit(with food) this knife aint worth thi gil save it and buy yourself some leeping boots or emp hairpin or you could try and camp it for a profit but this knife definatley ain worth it >.>

Bone knife +1 is only 18 dmg, +5 atk, and +5 acc. At this lvl most thfs donthave that much trouble with acc, so its not that useful. The big difference is that this has 18 dmg. 18 is the higests yet at 45, but the corsair's give 21 dmg. a difference of 3 dmg is pretty big on a dagger, its almost 15% more dmg, plus the extra 10 atk. The delay is only 16 more, so i think this is the best dagger available at this lvl.
Actually in my offhand as a lvl 60 thf i use bone knife +1... id rather have hornet needle but no one wnats to help... but i enjoy the +5 acur and attack the bone knife +1 gives as well as pretty low delay... so not a bad dagger for the off hand... i have a darksteel kukri in the other hand 23 dmg or sumthing like that.. many thfs need to learn that they dont need two high dmging daggers.. its pretty much totally pointless. You need main hand Dmg... off hand low delay and/or stat boosters

I totally agree. AT level 50, I equipped acc +27, and if I dont use sushi, I STILL miss nearly half the time... If I DO use Sushi, I miss about 1/5th of the time. Accuracy DOES matter around this level, very much.
No, he was right. a well-equipped thf with right food, etc. won't miss. If you do, that doesnt change the fact that a thf shouldnt and has the potential not to. It just means that you do.
i use 2 of these and squid sushi +1 only acc up i have is life belt and i rarly miss on anything i used to use bone +1 and my AF but on most stuff i was hitting for 0 with these i always hit for 1-4 damage and dont miss so works fine and great solo witch is wat i had gotten them for to begin with^^
from my experiences i am almost positive AGI has nothing to do with sata, although im pretty sure dex affects it. dex also effects you critical attack rate and critical attack damage, so it would make sense that it would effect sata, since sata is a critical hit. sata seems to be based on your STR + DEX but thats just my opinion.
This is true, right? I've done up my AGI and have noticed an increase in TA when I use them seperately. If I crit my TA, even without Viper Bite, I can do around 100 pts of dam.
I'm not an uber exp'd THF, but I have noticed that when I remove my AGI+ gear, and do SA I do less dmg. I have tested this out and I have seen about a 40-60 difference in dmg. This is on easy prey or too weak mobs, but still there is a difference.
um... yeah this was 430k on Alexander in Jeuno, so i figured i'll gather the troops and go get the NM, nowhere did i read that it was a 24hr spawn..so we went i continued my research and finally found it's a 21-24hr spawn, so i shelled out the gil and just bought this knife, i sure hope it's worth it. Since my main agenda is gaining TP just as fast as rng, or sam then i need to actually do some damage, the new JSE harness should help the atk rate so i'll be hitting the mob more. currently i'm @5000 49thf so after 50 i'll be doing some experiments w/ food, daggers and equip. i'll edit with any interesting findings i have.
Great dagger! Having +10 attacks makes a lot more difference in SATA then having +dex or agi. At lvl 60 mobs are going to have a huge increase in def. Mob def = lowers your average attack and peak dmg by a lot. Having more attack is the opposite. It'll boost both average and peak dmg. Here is a little scale so you'll have a better visual.
If you max Attack, your damage bar looks like this: =====X Not much potential, but you cap a lot.
If you max Dex/Agi, your damage bar looks like this ===X======== Lots of potential, but you tend to have trouble passing a certain point.
If you get some of both.. =======X= Nice balance of both potential and capping power.
For more information about Attack vs Dex/Agi visit the links in my sig. ('o')/
To Seipher: I assume that you are a thief. You can use both the swordbelt and the life belt. Just use equip macros.
Before sata, the macro I hit is: /equip hand "Mage's Cuffs" /equip waist "Sword Belt" /equip ear1 "Drone Earring" /equip ear2 "Drone Earring"
After sata, use other equip macro for tp/attack: /equip hand "Battle Gloves" /equip waist "Life Belt" /equip ear1 "Beetle Earring +1" /equip ear2 "Beetle Earring +1"
At 50 though, by the time you get the corsairs knife, if you can, (it's 600k on my server), you should equip the ryl. knights belt instead of the swordbelt. Later on, farm for those sniper's that you'll be needing for dancing edge ^_-

To Aoni:
I'm pretty darned sure that lust dagger as your 2nd is better than corsaire's. That 7 extra agi (even though -1dex) is just uber for sata.
My macro idea won't work for changing between corsaire's and lust dagger before/after sata. I've learned that If you equip change knives in mid-battle, you lose tp ; ;.
-------------
Ryx: Trick attack damage is affected by agi, not dex. Only sneak attack is affected by dex. I've heard though that with the new patch, assassin makes it so that sata does not stack, but trick attack is affected by both dex and agi. I cannot confirm the first part, but I do know that the second is true.
right now, i use swordbelt for the extra attack. Being a mithra i dont have much problem landing hits but i still do sometimes. If i got 2 of these corsairs knives then i could get rid of swordbelt and use life belt...guess i gotta go do some farming soon =)
I am a level 52 thief and I don't have it. I am duel weilding one of these as a main and a lust dagger as a second weapon. Anyway, do you guys think two corsair's knives are better then a corsair's knife/lust dagger? I don't know, I kind of prefer the +7 agi over the +10 attack.

Posted:Nov 19 2004 at 1:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The +ATK is better. AGI - LoL Do you know what the word means? Agility - Abilty to move with quickness, react, soforth... AGI has to do with Evasion + Thieving (Stealing Mugging). ATK - Deals with all Attacks - DEX with help land a good SATA too. DEX deals with Critical Hits. 2 of these knives plus acc would make a powerful team player. Soloing with these would leave you getting killed faster. IMO
AGI - LoL Do you know what the word means? Agility - Abilty to move with quickness, react, soforth... AGI has to do with Evasion + Thieving (Stealing Mugging)
no. Agi has to do with eva, but it also affects the damage done by Trick Attack. It has nothing to do with stealing, or at least i have never heard/read anything about it.
Want to test it?? Eat a windurst salad with all ur agi gear... play like poo for 30 minutes but have more luck stealing... Eat a Chefkabob - And some atk gear... And then hit something with SATA for +300 what you normally would - and then go "Oh Crap" "He is right" **peace**
Switching to Bone Knife +1s from Calvely's and Marauder's took off a consistant 50-100 from my SATA, and I did this several times on the SAME enemy, so AGI and DEX have a large bearing on your SATA, so if you want to do damage that matters... and thats your SATA, DEX and AGI are more important than attack and accuracy "Oh crap" "He is WRONG" **Peace**
I've tried many different AGI settings and I personally don't think it affects Trick Attack, after all that is a player circulated rumor. Dex however does affect it greatly. While fighting the same type monster over 2 hours I switched between 6 and 17 added agility and there wasn't a difference, w/ same dex. If you want something that increases your sata damage besides dex, use str, 5 extra str increases my sata damage 120 to 150 damage....
This is just what I've noticed from all the things I've tried, if you believe it or not is up to you, and I encourage you to try every angle you can and come up w/ your personal favorite set up....quit doing things because you hear its true(like adding extra agility because you heard it increases Trick Attack damage.)
Your sata hits for 120-150 in the 40's? Mine hits for a consistent 300 without food (even on beetles). The most mine ever hit for was 473 with mithkabobs and berserk up (i switch between war sub and nin), and thats without viper.
It's not just a player circulated rumor, or else the recent news of trick attack "now being affected by dex" (post 60 with assassin) would never have come about. Trick attack is affected by agi.
As for other dude, probably best not to use 2 dex/agi daggers. Use bone plus one as your main. sata only hits with one dagger though it factors in the added stats (though not the dmg points) of the second. The extra dmg and attack from the bone knife +1 plus the stat daggers stats should probably outweigh a 2 stat dagger setup, if you already have decent gear.
