i hunt this quite a bit and get around 8 tathlums for every 17 iron ores as WHM/THF for me yes TH dose help and the whole myth of being above the level of the NM making TH not have an effect is a myth and has been proven so on many accounts.
I was running my GF to get the Altep crystal and on the way I saw the ??? so i traded the ore killed it and got the drop. we came back the next day and killed it 6 more times w00t 6 more drops. So we started camping him to make gil and have killed him 10 times no drop just darkore. I let 1 of the tathlum drop because I didn't have enough space, it sucked.

I Just killed this thing while leveling in korroloka tunnel. I did it solo as a 31/15 Bst/Whm. I didn't think to record moon phase or day or anything, i was too excited that i was 1/1 on it. Not to mention hitting 31 was my only goal that night.
I figured i should post my strategy just in case anyone else might want to try it. It is definetely possible to solo at 30, provided you are a Bst or /Bst.
First i must say i was located at the first ramp down to the lower central pathway closest to the zeruhn mines zone. This stroke of luck was probably what alowed me to win considering i had plenty of spiders and leeches to throw at it. (I also could've taken the jelly but knowing how horrid the charm rate is i didn't want to ensure my death)
The most danger/dmg i took was spawning the NM itself. I cast barstone before i traded the iron ore just in case. As soon as he poped out of the ground he started casting Stone II, and hit me for 160dmg (with barstone up). I sicked my half dead (EM) pet spider on him and i started spamming silence. 4 silences were resisted before i gave up and had to scope out a new pet. He killed the spider after losing about 1/8th his HP and i sent another (DC) spider in.
While my seconed pet fought i rested, and recovered enough mp to heal to full hp before spider died. I grabbed an (EM) leech and once again ordered the assault, retreated to safety and rested. The leech did AMAZINGLY well, it knocked out the equivelent of 50% of its HP bar and i didn't even Dia the worm. When the leech was dead the worm was down to a tiny sliver of hp, less than 15%. I grabbed another (EM) leech and invited a Thf LS friend who was farming nearby for TH2. Sent the leech in and joined in the melee. Morion Worm died and i got 2 zinc ore and a morion tathlum. I lotted and my friend past it. ^.^
-I should also say the only action the worm took during pet swaps was casting stoneskin. So beyond the initial Stone II i didnt take any dmg.
-I will also say i didn't take any dmg because i stayed well away from the worm during fights. He SPAMS Stonega and tremors like crazy but they were very ineffective against pets and since i was out of range i could heal safely.
If i had to give some suggestions it would be to stay away from the fight and use leeches with spiders as a back-up. Don't bother trying to silence/paralyze him because you will just waste valuable mp. But please don't forget dia it will land and will help your pets immensly.
-Final note when you spawn him with the ore he comes out of the ground claimed(his name is red) so you don't have to worry about someone stealing him like that. But beware swapping pets because he will turn unclaimed if you take too long getting a new pet.

been finding this NM lately. so far im 0/4 on the tathlum drop, no darksteel either.

I'm 0/8 on the Tanthum. And have only got a Darksteel Ore once, other than that I've got around 20 Copper Ores, with a few Tin Ores and Zinc Ores mixed in. >.>
@ 65 (Drg) this thing will only take 1 WS from me before he's toast(he has around 1500-1800 HP). So it's a extremely easy NM to kill, but the 3 Copper Ore drops isn't worth the Iron Ore I get 1/2 the time from it. I have tried Thf for TH, but like I have posted in other threads, TH is worthless when you are way to high for the mob or NM. The only thing I enjoyed from subbing THF while trying it was the increased amount of gil I got from popping the Gigas' while going from spawn point to spawn point. I got better drops when subbing Sam, honestly(not kidding either).
But for anyone who says the 15 minute respawn of the ??? is "bullsh*t"?, is an idiot. That is the respawn time for the ???. If you don't see the ??? at the 3 spots it spawns at, then either someone else got the claim or you are looking in the wrong places.
The ??? spawns wherever there is a group of worms around in Korroloka Tunnel, I have never seen it spawn anywhere else than the 3 spawn points, where you while find alot of JP players pt'n at low-levels. And if you don't see it right off the bat you need to look closer, because there has been several times when I'm soloing that I'm checking out these worms, and 1 sec it isn't there and the next it is. And it takes a few more secs to get the ??? highlighted again, as it is fairly difficult to highlight the ??? in a crowd of worms.

ok. i can validate that the 10-15 minute respawn time is absolutely valid. my bf and i [35blm/17rdm & 35whm/17blm] killed this thing THREE times in about an hour last night. the ??? appears within the same area every time. i just traded it an iron ore, and there it was.
for the two of us, we had to create a strategy for this *****. first off, please be warned that this guy will cast Rasp, Stonaga, & Stone II like they are goin out of style. additionally, he has some sort of auto-regen effect. he constantly is regening his hp, and seems to have bottomless mp. we had to take shifts nukeing him...one nuked while the other rested to recover mp. however, since he will cast rasp religiously & you can't rest while its effecting you, resting is difficult. also [and this is important], all worms in the area will link with him when you aggro him...and it seems like several spawn when his ??? spawns. this ho DOES hit hard, so stand back and simply nuke it if you are around our level. we were killt on the first try because we walked right on up to it and starting beating on it between casts. the next 3 times we spawned it tho...we PWNED it.
what did it drop, you ask? NO TATHLUM...which was our whole reason to waste the damn worm. nonetheless, we did get a couple darksteel ores [15k, basty AH, ramuh server] and several iron ores with which we will spawn him more tonight!! i'll update this post to list drops and any more info. good luck!

Was exping off of worms at (I-8) instead of Valkrum Dunes, and I saw this guy spawn in a corner. Some high lvl rng took it, but I saw it nonetheless.

I'm hunting this thing for the Darksteel ore....but I can't find ANY spawn points!!!
I found the one right near the Zehrn mines entrance and figured I'd wait the 15 minutes, but nothing!!
Walked all over Korrolka and can't find any more. No RMTs there at the time, but this alleged 15 minute pop time is crap!

ok i understand those who wanna make earings out of it, and those that intend to use it, but damn i wish people would stop camping it for selling, i like many others need this for use, not gill, and once i get mine ill be omw never to return, but having to compete w/greedy bastards is driving me nutz, any way spent 2hrs got 1 shot and am 0/1 guess ill try again later
PS: those who are selling em should lower the price, sure its cool and all but i for one dont have the gil nore do i ever intend on buying things i can get off drops/quests

First of all, quit whining because you cant get the claim fast enough. Almost everyone who has camped has dealt with competition. Second, They all pay for the subscription to play JUST LIKE YOU. They have the right to do whatever they want with the items that drop (like selling them for money).

Me and a friend decided to try and hint this worm after reading up on it some and we're 1/1 on a Tathlum so far. Funny part is we were trying for Darksteel.
I'll report back later, hopefully with more luck. A stack sells for 1.3mil in Quetzal's Jeuno AH.

ISH CONFUZLED
The other day I killed this thing 3 times. I even posted it earlier. How come now I only get ores? I'm not complaining about the ores, they sell ok too but can't craft if you cant get the tathlum...

Its funny, after reading all of this today I decided to set out with a friend to kill the worm. So far we're 1/1 on a Tathlum. Funny thing is I was looking for Darksteel. I'm on the Quetzal server, so...I'm gonna keep trying. I'll report back with more success later.
15+ kills, and only 2 Darksteel ore to show for it. No tathlum at all.
Ok this is flat out HORRIBLE. I dunno what SE did, but Morion doesn't drop Tathlums anymore.. I'm sure he does, but they tweaked the drop rate somehow.
I am currently 0/25+. I hunt morion often and at times and have gotten a good amount of tathlums so far, enough for 2 stacks, but I've sold em as singles cause of my bad drop rate with TH1. Anywayz, I dunno what happened but Morion refuses to drop tathlums for me.. 25 kills.. in a row.. without a single drop. I've tried everything, melee, melee with WS, magic, magic with WS, I'm running outta combo's. Maybe it's time to pull out the 4 leaf mandragora bud..
Something odd about it.. he's dropping dark steels a lot better now. I used to get maybe 6 morion for every 1 dark... now I've gotten 7 out of the 25 or so. I even got 2 darksteels in a single drop! I found it very puzzling. Anywayz, I think SE did something to Morion in Chocobo Update.. but it's merely speculation. Drop rate for this has gone downhill...

57 Thief here, 5 kills in the last hour and fifteen minutes, no drop. No skills/magic/ws used period, i just melee it to death, wait 15 minutes, and make my way around the zone again. Bad drop rate on Tathlum, need one for my rdm... did get 1 darksteel ore thusfar though.
Beat this guy as a 32Bst/Nin, the only hard part was I hoped no one came by as I was grabbing abother pet and stole claim. Other then that it was a pretty easy fight, just threw spiders and leeches at him, and once in awhile a bat, maybe 15 pets in all, it was a long fight which makes it worse cause I didn't get the drop either:/

Nevermind...this guy was easy solo after I got refresh. I solo'd him as RDM/WHM, later as RDM/BLM and then finally RDM/NIN and I was successful all 3 times. I only got the drop once but who cares? That's an extra 100k on Garuda.

Gilsellers are camping this every second that they're -not- in jeuno putting it on AH, and it's getting rediculous. Any time I see gilsellers now I just mpk em with jammer leeches, but there's always at least 4-5 on him at a time. =/

you can too mpk... its easy, i get rmt alot haha, just find an afk rmt use a pebble on a decently tough mob and trick attack the rmt. so far my rmt drops are 16/16 ;p
NMs dont despawn after you die .-., its the "old school" way to MPK someone now :P

just beat him three times with blm51/whm25 solo..... stay far enough to avoid physical damage and ur HP will stay at top with whm auto-regen.... only problem here is ur mp... i had mp pool around 660 and it s pretty short if u can t aspir him from time to time

Hey everyone, just vanquished this guy today as a 45RDM/19THF and I had a wild rabbits tail on me. Drops included:
Morion Tathlum
Darkseel ore
Copper ore x2
Tin ore
Im 1/1 on this little bugger so far. I have to agree with Yenrab, gilsellars are notorious on Leviathan. They stalk this thing constantly so competition is fierce. At lvl 45 Morion was a bit tough since I wasn't realy able to fully buff up due to the need to get the jump on the competion, but I wouldnt try this guy below lvl 40. Competing with the RMT **** heads is hard enough on this mob. Last time i was camping it there was 8 people camping it 6 were in 2 pts. As it is i barley got the claim but every once in awhile i got him.
Both times no problem hes easy as hell.
1st drop 3 copper ores
2nd drop 2 iron ores and a copper ore

3/15 on the tathlum.
meh 1st killed it as 42MNK/war took me down to about 689/902 HP (GALKA HP). i've seen a RDM39 kill it o.O dont know if he used 2H or not
pops every 15 minutes (earth time) from the last time it has been killed
bit of addvice. kill it fast so that the other campers dont get the TOD aswell. so kill worms in the area to build up tp.
also: have a THF 50+ for TH2, it helps still DS ores drop like every other pop lol.
